Mr. Customer thank you for your patients. This review comes just over 6 working days from your request for a estimate. I have been out of the office for about a week and a half with the flu and a upper respiratory infection. I do understand you may need this work completed quickly. If that's the case all my information including a contact phone number is available on my company page. Had you taken the time to contact me one of my lead guys would have informed you of my situation. As you can clearly see from the numerous reviews we have excellent customer service. I do apologize for not responding in a more timely manner. Good luck and please let us know if we can help you in the future.

Description of Work: Carolina Construction Services demolished original bathroom to the studs. They replaced walls, ceiling, tile floor and built a new tile shower they also provided a new vanity and granite top. They were careful to protect my house during removal of old materials, and cleaned up nicely when the job was complete. I found the crew very professional and I felt very comfortable with them in my house. I highly recommend David Grady and his crew.

This was our first Angie's Deal purchase, and maybe our last. This is also my first review. The Special deal was for 2 Painters for 8 hours for $399 (reg. Value $800). The job was to paint one small bedroom and with time remaining, paint the hallway trim. The PROBLEMS: To start with, I learned this was NOT a 50% Off Deal. The owner advised that it was not really an $800 value deal; he does not charge $50/hr for his painters. Her said it was more like 30% off. He said needed to fix that with his Angie's List account rep. The painters started late and quit working early. They didn't attempt to start the hallway trim. I also learned that their time starts when they pull up to the house and ends when their packed in their cars and ready to leave. It takes 30 minutes to get ready, and 30 minutes to pack up. When they started late and quit early and it's ended up really more like 12 hours of painting, not 16. Again, the job was to paint one small bedroom and as much hallway trim as possible. No ceiling, no closet, no doors, and no furniture to move, all pictures, posters and electrical wall plates had already been removed. (Hoping to make the most of their time and this deal, we had worked hard to prepare. Doors through out the hallway had also been removed. We had even dusted and vacuumed the walls.) The RESULTS: At what would have cost $865, the two professional painters took the a whole day to paint one small bedroom. That was no deal. The special deal is erroneous and should be corrected. It is false and misleading. Even the current $199 deal is misleading. It is not 50% off. The poster push pin holes had been patched with drywall mud that was slow to dry. Four hours after applying it, they were still drying it with a hair dryer. (A simple vinyl spackle from Lowes would have dried in minutes and been more appropriate for push pin holes.) The owner was very defensive and argumentative. He offered to ask the painters to come back in and work another half an hour. But, by that time I had had enough. We DO NOT recommend Carolina Construction Services. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I'm glad David responded to my review, it helps me to better understand the way he conducts business. The number of push pin holes is greatly exaggerated. And, I was concerned why the hair dryer had been running so long, over 30 minutes before lunch (and 15 minutes more after lunch). So, I checked on their work during their lunch and took several pictures. Several wet patches were still evident at 12:15pm, and it is clear in the pictures that there are no where never 600?700 push pin holes patched. There were also multiple wet patch spots that needed drying, not just one. Pictures don't lie. The biggest wet patch that David described was actually for a hole created by the painters themselves. David said it was where an expanded ΒΌ inch molly bolt (for curtain rods) had mistakenly been pulled through the drywall. Seriously, why would you do that? David did come out for a previsit and we discussed painting the room, not the ceiling or closet, just the walls and trim, and then as much as the the hallway trim a possible. It was agreed, they would paint what they could in the allotted 8 hours. In turn, I could see their work, and decide whether to award additional work. We never discussed an additional rate per man for any over allotted time. That's just fictitious. David's recollection of their setup and start time is also erroneous, they didn't actually start working until 8:45am. Clean up started at 4:15pm. Remember, I was here ? David was not. As for saying all furniture was put back, literally nothing was moved back. David's false 50% off ads are still posted. He knew and admitted it was wrong last week, and he's still doing it. Who makes up the value of these ads - David or his Angie's List account rep? Before David arrived at day end, I did talk with the lead painter when he said they were finished. I asked them why they didn't even start the hallway trim, and he stated that they didn't start anything they couldn't finish. So, they just quit early and had packed up. He never offer to paint the doors as David says. If I knew they were not going to start the hallway trim, I would have gladly had them paint as many doors as they had time to complete before they packed up. I didn't pay to have a room painted, I paid for 2 painters for 8 hours. As for lack of professionalism, David was adamant that they had not used an oil based primer, and argued the fact. The picture I took earlier clearly showed they used a Zinsser oil-based stain blocker. In a huff, David stomped out to the truck, brought back two paint cans and shoved them in my face. ?Don't tell be how to do my job, and I won't tell you how to do yours!? One paint can was oil-based, one was a latex primer. I believe that David never intended to paint anything other than the bedroom walls and trim. And, when that was finished, it was time to pack and leave. I believe he just wanted to do the least amount of work possible because it was a special sale price. David continues to falsely advertised the value of his work. They started late, finished early and failed to work the 8 hour time contracted, and his professionalism was found lacking.
Description of Work: Painted one small bedroom - walls and trim only. Did not include ceilings, closets, doors or any furniture moving. All pictures, posters and electrical wall outlet plates had been removed. Walls had no grease or oil spots and had been vacuumed and dusted before the painters arrived. Nine pictures and posters had been removed. This left several push pin holes in the walls to spackle.

Response from Carolina Construction Services
I am terrible sorry that [member name removed] was not satisfied with our performance. To clarify some very misleading facts stated by [member name removed]. This was a small 10 x 12 bedroom. The walls were cover from floor to ceiling the day I came out to discuss this project with him. I would guess there were close to 600-700 push pin holes in the walls they needed to be almost skim coated. There was 1 hole over a window that needed to be dried down with a dryer 15 min. max. The trim was stained. This requires sanding, oil base primer, and 2 coats of trim paint. The walls were dark blue maybe a Duke blue They were primed and painted with a finish coat. I set a time to go out and discuss the job with each customer prior to scheduling a date to complete the painting. I have them to create a wish list. I then explain what I realistically see us completing in the allotted time. I discuss a rate per man hr if they would like us to make sure a particular part of the job is completed and goes over our allotted time. I explained to [member name removed] that we would need 6-7 hours to complete the bedroom( actual time to complete 7hr and 15 min.). Remember it has stained trim and the walls needed extensive mud work. We discussed painting the trim in hallway also stained if we had time to complete it. I advise every costumer that we will arrive between 8:00 and 8:15. This gives us a little extra time incase we encounter unexpected traffic. I arrived at 8:12 and both of my painters were there and getting drop cloths out of the car. I told [member name removed] we would call the start time 8:15. That would mean the allotted 8 hours would end at 5:15. Just to clarify yes when you buy a time slot your time starts when we walk in your house and start setting up (spreading drop cloths, moving furniture, etc.). It ends when we finish cleaning up and have all of our drops and tools cleaned up and any plates, furniture, etc put back where it goes (this was explained to [member name removed] as it is to all my customers). This typically takes about 15 mins to set up and about 20-25 to clean up. There is 1 huge mistake on my part. The ad reads that the big deal is a 50% discount. I have ran 50%discounts in the past. I didn't correct this ad but when I price jobs I use a man hr rate of $35-$45 per hour depending on the job. I will have this corrected for any future ads. My lead painter talked to [member name removed] at the completion of the bedroom (about 4:45 after the the room was cleaned up). [Member name removed] commented that he didn't have anything else since we couldn't start the hallway. At that time I was called by my lead painter and I advised him to go talk to [member name removed] and make sure we cant paint some doors, etc. Again [member name removed]'s response is no if we cant start the hallway I don't have anything else. I returned to the job at 5:00. [Member name removed] made comment after comment about us not working in the hall way. But agreed there would be know reason to start if we couldn't finish. After discussing that we finished 30 min. early I offered to have both my painters and myself come in and paint doors or anything else for 45 min. But he didn't want us to do that. I tried to rectify the fact that we stopped working early but that didn't help. I never once was over bearing, argumentative, rude, or loud with [member name removed]. I believe anything short of completing the bedroom and trim in the hallway would not be expectable to [member name removed]. Even though we discussed this prior to starting and I explained that the odds were the bedroom would take to long to complete the hallway trim. On the other hand I literally had to pull 2 cans of primer back out of truck to prove to [member name removed] what products we used as he continued to talk over me and try to argue with every comment I made. I am very professional, reasonable, and do anything to make sure my customers are happy. But in some cases although very rare no matter how hard I try the customer has their mind made up. I would ask anyone that reads this review. Please consider this is 1 review. I might add the only review that would describe me or my workers in a bad light. I pride myself on great customer service, quality, and reasonable rates.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They were great. They did a wonderful job. He was on time. If there was a problem or he was going to be late, he called. He was very professional and I was very, very pleased. I spent additional money. I really liked the way they called. They let me know when they would be here and how long it would take, which I really appreciated.
Description of Work: I used Carolina Construction Services to paint and fix ceilings. They did 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a ceiling.

Todd did most of the work, about 10 hours of time: 4 hours on Tuesday, 2 hours on Wednesday, 4 hours on Thursday. David assisted for the first two hours on the first day, and was there on the last day (about 2 hours). My husband met with David for the initial consultation. David had some trouble emailing the estimate to him; we didn't get it until we called him looking for it. When David and Todd came to the house to do the work, they were very nice and got right to work, but didn't introduce themselves to me (it was my first time meeting them). There was no demolition needed; it was already done. We had 4 areas that needed sheetrock and base molding in two closets and a bathroom. The sheet rock and molding look nice and David and Todd made sure I was happy with the results, going back over an area I was concerned about. Stabilizing the tub footing was an additional request, not part of the original order, and they did a quick fix for me without hesitation or additional cost since it only required slipping a 2x4 under the feet. Overall, I was happy with the work and loved how important it was to them that I was happy. I will call them again when we need other work done.
Description of Work: Replace sheet rock, mud and finish. Replace base molding. Stabilize tub footing on slab foundation.

I first bought an Angies Deal for 2 painters for a day and used them to paint my basement - paint job was great, and then did a great job of cleaning up. Then I asked them to repair drywall and paint the garage which was a larger job. Again very professional, paint and drywall job was excellent.
Description of Work: Painted the basement, and then on separate job repaired drywall and painted the garage.

The job went great. Two painters came to do six hours of painting each, and they worked accurately and steadily the entire time. As mentioned above, because the ceiling work went more quickly than anticipated, the painters moved on to paint walls and woodwork. Again, their work was excellent and we were grateful they were able to come back the second day to finish the job. This job went so well and the price was so reasonable we would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Painted ceilings in entryway, long hallway, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a media room that has five beams running the length of the ceiling. Because this was an Angie's List special for 12 hours of painting and the ceilings went faster than planned, we agreed upon an additional price to put two coats of paint on the walls of the entryway and hallway, two coats of enamel on the chair railing, and one coat on the baseboard (after sanding.)

He was referred by a friend and is very polite and prompt. He did good work and also recommended that I let the wood breath over the winter before I painted it. He could of had the work right then but was honest enough to tell me the truth in hopes that I will call him in the spring to paint the deck. He is honest and trustworthy and I will use him again in the future.
