I contacted Sungevity for a quote on a solar system in mid September 2015. The sales guy was very professional and made lots of promises which did not sound outrageous. I was most concerned on how long it would take to get my system activated. He told me the very latest would be early January (by the way, it's mid March and it's still not on, details to follow). First was the roof inspection which was done promptly and they told me it would take a couple of weeks for their engineers to complete the design. It took almost a month. Then they said it would take about 6 weeks for my county to issue a permit. It took almost 2 months (at least that's what they told me, who knows how long they sat on it). Now we are in mid December so they tell me first week of January they would be calling me to schedule the installation. I do get a call, but the call is about making half of the payment before they schedule me. I promptly pay half the money and two hours later I get a call that the vendor they are using, Progressive Power Group, is so busy they cannot give me an installation date. At that point I threatened to cancel my credit card payment because the promise was, you make a payment we will schedule you. The next day I get a call that they have scheduled me but it's for near end of January. What choice do I have but to accept this. A day before Progressive is to show up I get a call from Sungenvity to inform me that Progressive will be showing up the next day and we are all set. Two hours later I get a call from a different person at Sungevity telling me that Progressive will not be showing up because they don't know where the solar panels have been shipped to. At this point I am dealing with a bunch of rank armatures where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Progressive shows up 3 days later after they finally "find" the panels. The first day they install the inverter and the A/C shutoff and poke so many holes into my house that it looks like amateur hour. The second and third day they install the mounting brackets and the conduits, but leave the solar panels all over my lawn. Oh, and by the way, they take off all the A/C shutoffs and inverter and reinstall them creating more holes on my house. Their excuse was that Sungevity never told them that they needed to install an A/C shutoff outside of the gate going to my backyard. At the end of the third day I get a call from Progressive telling me that the next time they can show up to my house is 5 days later. I ask them what am I suppose to do with all these panels spread all over my lawn and they couldn't care less. I am not their customer, I am Sungevity's customer so they couldn't care less. 5 days later they show up and install the panel. The installation is the ugliest one in my neighborhood. The solar panels stand almost a foot off the roof and all the electrical boxes, and conduit runs are clearly visible from the street. I take those guys around and show them the panels that all my neighbors have installed and they look sleek and clean. They tell me "well, Sungevity sent us these brackets so that's what we used, it you want a shorter bracket tell them". I called Sungevity and they said "well, yes shorter brackets do indeed exist and we can send those out to you, it will take three weeks to get those brackets." So I wait three weeks and progressive comes out and installs the panels. Finally, this may come to an end. Not so fast. Before the inspection happens I need to pay for the other half. I promptly do that and a couple of days later my county inspector comes to inspect. Guess what. There is something wrong and they have to change a part. That will take another 4 days. They change the part and the inspector passes the installation. Now I have to wait for the power company to give me the green light to turn it on. But I notice that the meter on the solar side is missing. Of course nobody from Sungevity has said anything to me. I call the project manager asking why the meter wasn't installed. Well, it's on back order and it will take another week to get that there. I got approval from the power company to turn my system on. Progressive comes out a week later to install the "Lgate" and turn my system on. That was two days ago. Today, I log into the system to see my power production, it says zero. WHAT IS GOING ON NOW!!! I call customer service and they tell me that two days ago Progressive opened a ticket with them that there is an error code on the inverter. Of course nobody has notified me. And now I get an email from Sungevity that they have to change the inverter and they will let me know as soon as one becomes available. This has been an absolutely frustrating experience with Sungevity. All I hear from them is "I'm Sorry". Two of my neighbors when with Costco (who uses Sunrun) a month after I signed with Sungevity and both were up and running in less than two months. I think the business model of Sungevity is seriously flawed. Their execution has been amazingly poor in my situation. I have been strongly turning my friends away from Sungevity as I just don't believe they know how to operate on their business model. It's still up in the air on when I will get my system turned on but I did want to share my experience as writing reviews is not something I do regularly, but this experience is something I don't wish on any well minded individual who is trying to do the right thing.
