We had been out of town and returned to discover the A/C was not working. I called the company and they scheduled a repairman for later in the week. When he got the housing off and the motor/fan pulled he noted that two of the motor mounting screws had broken off. The fan blades were damaged. During the initial visit he did work on the blades so that they could turn without major vibration. He thought we might squeeze a day out of the unit and would hopefully have the parts within a day or two. Unfortunately when he went to reassemble the unit he noticed that the welds on the top had broken and the top would need to be replaced or repaired. I asked him to be sure and let me know if he could obtain a new top or if I would need to get the welding done. I hadn't heard about the follow-up, and I called them 7 days later. The parts had not been ordered yet because the work order had not been flagged in the usual way. It had been set aside and they were planning on calling to be sure we really wanted the parts. I hadn't found out if they were able to get a replacement top or not. The parts had to come from Texas and took several days to arrive. As it turned out, the manufacturer had changed the way it mounts the motor and a new motor mount and fan would have been adequate instead of a whole new motor and fan. It even resolved the problems with the welds on the top of the unit. However, at the time I was glad to feel any cool air blowing through the vents and didn't connect that there was no significant air flow through the system. The next day (Friday) the house was hot again and I placed another service call. Saturday morning the serviceman (the owner) came out and said that the problems were many and under the house. It would be Monday before it could be fixed. Monday morning two repairman came out. They were in a different colored van, but knew what needed to be done. Within an hour they had thoroughly cleaned the system under the house, and even replaced a substituted piece of insulation board (not sure when or who had made that patch) on the back of the unit with metal. They came in the house to be sure that the unit was really moving air and to be sure the thermostat was working. We will use the company again, and probably order a new system from them.. We have not received a bill for the Saturday or Monday call. I am not sure that we should have been charged for the motor when a little research on the company's part might have identified that the new style motor mount would have suffice (also eliminated the need to welding). The fan definitely needed to be replaced.
Description of Work: The fan wasn't running on the A/C so the who unit was not running. They found the the screws holding the motor in place had broken off and the fan blades damaged. A new motor and fan was ordered and eventually installed. The unit was still barely performing and required an additional call. Ultimately the A/C was repaired.
