Serpaco Painting

I set out to select a contractor for house exterior painting. I was not looking for the cheapest quote I could find--my primary goal was quality. I contacted three of the highest rated companies on Angie's List for exterior painting. Of those three, Serpaco was THE ONLY ONE who brushes exclusively. The other two quoted for spraying, which I believe to be an inferior method used to increase production and make the job easier. Despite using easier methods, one competitor quoted a price that was DOUBLE Serpaco?s quote, the other was ~50% higher than Serpaco?s! Aside from the price, which ended up being a bonus to me, I felt the most comfortable with Serpaco after speaking to all three. For me it was a matter of getting expert advice and recommendations versus being told what I want to hear. They did a fantastic job?prep-work, wood rot repair, sealing, and painting. The finished product is superb. When we walked the project, Nick spotted some very minor damage and additional wood rot that was missed by the crew, and had that repaired. These are fine details that I would never have noticed or if I had it would have been months later. That?s the quality control you get when you hire a true professional.

Serpaco was quick to respond to our request for an estimate. The estimate came in very close to one other estimate we received, but we were sold on the hand painted method, a longer guarantee, and high praise from our next door neighbors. The rainy November delayed things, but I was in contact with manager Patrick, and as soon as the weather cooperated, the house and trim were prepped and the painting done. Everything was power washed, scrapped, caulked, and evaluated for replacement, and then the expert hand painting was begun. The crew is amazing with their skill and no masking was needed. Given that the time for the whole job was one week (with one day too damp in the early part of the week). We are very pleased!

I thought the project went well. Nick is a good communicator with the client on what is currently going on with the project and any issues that have arisen. The workers made sure the house was well sealed with Caulk after the power-washing. The Caulking began once the house was dry from the power-washing and they sealed all my concerns as addressed. Nick replaced the soffit vents free of charge due to paint clogging the soffit vents. We should have just replaced the soffit vents to begin with, but that was not the initial plan. Some additional wood was replaced on the house without charge and I was given a reduced cost ($400 less) for the second coat of white paint on the exterior trim (originally was going to do one coat). The workers kept the yard clean after each day of work and was courteous. Nick really wants you to be happy as the customer and he went to great lengths to make sure my wife and I were happy. All projects end up with some finishing touches and any small issues were addressed and quickly fixed. All-in-all I would say Nick stands by his word in making sure you are happy with the work performed and will go the extra mile. I will say job well done! At the conclusion of the project and our final meeting, Nick expressed concern with the new wood that was used to replace the rotting wood in that I should let him know if there is any issues as the new wood sometimes tends to do funny things. Quality of work is definitely important as well as Customer Satisfaction. Thank you Nick.

We contacted Serpaco on July 14th and requested an estimate for the work we needed to have done. They responded promptly and made an appointment to do the estimate on the 21st of July. Donnie, the area manager, did the estimate. He answered our questions and was very professional, We also got an estimate from another company for comparison. Although Serpaco's estimate was slightly higher we decided to go with them because of their great reviews and also the professional service we had been given by Donnie. Their team power washed our deck and fence on July 30th and Donnie inspected it on the 31st to see if it was dry enough to stain. He felt it would be better to wait an extra day to be sure it was dry, so they stained it on August 1st. He inspected it again on August 3rd to be sure everything was done properly, and we gladly paid him. We are pleased with the good work they did and the professional way things were handled. We hope to have them paint the exterior of our home in the future.

Rob did a great job keeping me up to date on the timing, we weren't in a huge rush but obviously wanted to get it done sooner rather than later. The team did a great job and went above and beyond in many areas. Even if we didn't talk about it and it wasn't on the list of things to do, they would do whatever to make the job look great. I had lights on my pergola and they removed the lights and were even going to re-install them after they were done staining! I told them this was way beyond what I expected a painting company to do, but shows the level of service they offer. Everything looks great and they were very professional - they are definitely now my go to guys for all painting needs.

Donnie and his crew were excellent. I received a number of estimates for this job, and his was by far the most comprehensive. I also really appreciated his attention to detail, and responsiveness to concerns I had about needed repairs, even minor ones we noticed needed addressing after job was complete. Very easy to work with and paint job looks great. They really went above and beyond; I would highly recommend and definitely plan on hiring for future painting work.

I called to get an estimate in early November. Donnie Stutts, Area Manager came out, arrived at the agreed upon time, and did a very, very thorough walk-around inspection for any rotted wood issues and to assess the job. He communicated well the process they use, told us about the company, and showed a binder with info about the business including photos of jobs done and reviews. He then filled in an itemized estimate form and left it with us. On the estimate I had asked that he quote the painting separate from any repairs. That way there was no discrepancies or hidden surprises at the end of the job. Donnie said he would call us mid to late the following week but we did not get a call back from him which was surprising after the first meeting went so well. Time was ticking on the winter weather season moving in plus a personal matter impending. Trying to be patient, It wasn't until early December that I called him to ask if he was still interested in the job. He said yes and didn't realize that much time had gone by plus they were held up with another job with bad weather and also the Thanksgiving holiday. OK so we were ready to roll and crew came out to power wash the house. (They arrived over an hour late). The first power wash solution did not clean the house sufficiently and it still had grime so they had to come back another day and do it over. Once the preparation, painting, and siding repair was begun, the painters worked consistently, quietly, and with attention on what they were doing (except for one young man who came only on the last day and who spent most of the time on his cell phone while he worked and was missing spots). Some workers understood little or no English but the crew leader, Marcelino did so it wasn't a problem and he was here most of the time when they were working. They didn't pick up their drink bottles, rags, etc. when they left each day. Noticeable but minor issue. On one of the days, a worker was carelessly "jumping" his ladder, actually repositioning it, while painting the second story, and the ladder slipped out with him on it and he fell. He hurt himself in the process and had to leave work for the day. In the process of all this mayhem paint splattered everywhere all over the deck and railings and also shredded the top of the window frame and knocked out a whole section of our deck railing. Another worker was able to remove the splattered paint while it was still wet fortunately but they had to repair the section of railing and later, the window frame. A little damage still remains to the deck but I didn't mention it. All this was needless if the man was being more careful and just got off the ladder to move it! Was very disconcerting to us and cost the company time and money. At the end of days a general time frame was given for when they would come the next day but on some days they came much earlier and we weren't ready for them to be here yet. Arriving too early is not much better than arriving late, hence the "B" on punctuality. Another issue was that they painted our front exterior door and shutters with a different finish type than what we had previously. I was not happy with that and Donnie said that he assumed to do it that way since most houses have it done that way. But he should have checked before making that assumption. He offered to do the door over at their expense but I have not taken him up on that to date. The only other complaint I have is one of communicating or lack thereof. Two phone calls and an email were not returned. But ultimately no issues went unaddressed. He came by the job site 3 times over the course of the days they were here to check on things. The job was started on December 5 and was completed on December 13, an acceptable and reasonable amount of time. The bottom line is that the job got done and the painters were courteous and hard working and did high quality work. In the end it was a fair price for a job well done. They went the extra mile with some additional siding repair that wasn't noticed on the first inspection at no extra cost. And on the last day they painted the lantern and mailbox posts which was an appreciated and a nice surprise. We are very pleased with the excellent quality overall and glad we chose Serpaco for the job. All in all, I would recommend them and hire them again if we needed exterior painting.

Upon initial contact, an area manager Donnie came out for a detailed inspection of the house/ job. He spent about an hour alone for measurements and locating dry-rots in need of repair. Then he spent another hour explaining and discussing his findings, work process, and estimate. He addressed all of our concerns and also gave very helpful opinion about types of paint to be used. Donnie seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. We had two more estimates from other well-reviewed companies. We selected Serpaco for excellent reputation, warranty, and schedule guarantee. The job was carried out flawlessly by Marcelino and his crew. Marcelino communicated well with us and his crew. They kept the worksite cleaned up daily. They were careful to protect plants and cars parked around the house. Marcelino found many more dry-rots, which he duly replaced. He asked us to compile a list of extra jobs so he doesn't forget them. The list included a dozen items like painting the porch rocking chairs and decorative bird house, fixing broken piece of roof shingle, and changing garage ceiling light bulbs that are 15 ft. high. On the last day, smiling Marcelino handed us back the list with every item checked off! Donnie checked in almost daily, and Marcelino carried out the job with a strong ownership and pride. Everyone was so very friendly and courteous even during the most unpleasant weather conditions. And when the color of the deck floor turned out to be clashing with siding, and we decided to repaint, Donnie arranged Marcelino to come back to repaint, charging only a small fee. We have painted our house multiple times previously, and we can confidently say that they were the best! We received many compliments from neighbors who also noted that the crew did excellent work.

They are awesome. They are personal, honest, do great work and gave me a good price for the work they did. They even did some drywall work, replaced some fillings and did the windows.

Nick and his crew were all extremely professional and did an amazing job! Nick was very knowledgeable and offered advice when I needed help in making a decision. He also researched and found the best option for how to handle the attic window. His workers were always polite and friendly. I could not be happier with the work that they did and will definitely recommend them to friends and continue to use Serpaco painting in the future!

I would highly recommend using Serpaco painters. They were extremely easy to work with and they did a beautiful job! You can't beat their quality of work and price. My husband and I couldn't be happier with the work these men did. We a have coiffered ceiling in our dining room that needed painting but we didn't want the molding done. They did such a beautiful job, that you would have thought they painted the molding white, bc their edging was that good! We also had one room upstairs that required sanding and some good tendar loving care. Again, you would not know what the walls looked like before hand bc they did a phenomenal job! I can't say anything bad, bc they not only impressed my husband, but my father as well, who is extremely handy and knows what to look for. We were so happy with their work that we will most likely use them again to paint our bonus room and upstairs living room.

They were prompt and professional from start to finish. They did an excellent job of repairing, preparing ,painting and cleaning up. We were pleased in all ways. We plan to use them again in 10 years when the outside needs painting again. They have our recommendation to do painting for any and all in the North Caronia area. They made sure that the windows were not stuck after the paint dried.

Overall I am very happy with Serpaco. I was especially impressed that all aspects of the job were performed in a quality and timely manner from the initial job scoping/estimate visit to the clean-up when the job was completed. This was one of those jobs that on the surface looked like a 1 day job; however, more rotten areas were found esp since we have aging Masonite siding. Instead of 1 day, it turned out to be nearly 3 full consecutive days. The guys were timely each day, pleasant, and worked diligently. I was bracing myself for a significantly larger bill since the scope of the job expanded but was pleasantly surprised. I feel like I got good quality service for a reasonable price. I will definitely consider using Serpaco again.

All the painters worked diligently and coordinated the job well. Well supervised by Rob S. and followed thru to completion all that we agreed upon. After the job was finished and we had questions, Rob was prompt in responding to our inquiries. Follow thru was very good. They did quality work. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic. On time, professional, and a quality job.

Daryl was very nice and professional starting with the initial estimate. He came back out another time to look at some additional items and gave me an adjusted estimate. He offered a discount if I booked within a couple of days, which I did. The proposed cost was very reasonable for the amount of carpentry that was needed and included the best Sherwin Williams paint and hand painting. The team was small so it took the better part of a week but they did an excellent job. It was kind of nice not having a huge group of painters all over the house as we've had in the past, and with only 2 people there was complete accountability for their work, and they were very thorough. There was more bad siding that had to be replaced than expected plus there was rotten fascia in the back where the gutters had been backing up. All of this was changed out at no extra charge. Daryl was on site every day to check progress and talk with me about how it was going and the time-line. I am very pleased with the results.

They were prompt, on-schedule, and on-budget (stayed with estimate). Very courteous and professional. We will use Serpaco again as well as recommend them.

We had brought Serpaco in to perform this work because they had done a fabulous job repainting the exterior of our home several months previous. They delivered with professionalism. They offer a very competitive price, complete the job in the timeframe committed to and the quality of the work is exceptional. They have become our go to painters.

The Area Manager showed up on time for the quote, did a room by room detailed quote, was here for 1.5 hours and had the quote ready before he left. I was impressed. I actually had decided to go with someone else but since the quote was so detailed and I got them to come off the price by $750 I changed my original choice to Serpaco, based on that and the fact they are one of the top rated painters on Angie's List. Also the crew were a nice group of guys and the area manager was very professional. Things went downhill once they started. I made the mistake of saying the carpet in the upstairs part of the house was going to be replaced after the painting. I guess that made it ok to get paint all over it and to paint the carpet to the baseboards when they did the trim. They did move some of the furniture and covered most of it with plastic, but they did not believe in using drop cloths. There were paint drops & spatters on carpet, my hardwood floors downstairs had paint spatters and dust from sanding and finishing and my front porch had paint drops and spatters from where they stored things at night. There was paint on electrical outlets and wall switches.In one bathroom they removed 1 of the 3 towel racks but not the others. Those that were left had paint on them. There was paint on the wall mounted light fixtures in the bathrooms. The paint they used is Sherwin Williams ProMar 200, which didn't cover everything well even with 2 coats. The trim was quoted with one coat of paint but ended up requiring a 2nd coat, which somehow managed to be equal to the 10% Angie's List discount that I got. They also only used 5 gallons of paint for 2 coats in 4 bedrooms (about 2500 sq. ft of walls) and needless to say the coverage there was bad. Even Sherwin Williams paint data sheets indicate that a gallon will only cover about 400 sq. ft. The project ended up taking 7 days instead of 5 because of all the cleanup and extra painting that had to be done. This is the 3rd time I've had the interior painted during the 27 years I've lived here and it has been by far my worst paint experience ever. Next time my house needs an interior painting I'm going to sell it.

Daryl was our contact. He was pleasant, seemed technically experienced, and knowledgeable. His estimate significantly beat four others after the AL discount. He was able to prepare and stain our deck within the time frame needed. Workers were punctual, worked diligently, and cleaned up well. There was a discrepancy in the color of the railing but Daryl had that problem corrected immediately on my pointing it out to him. The job looks fine and meets my expectation. I am unable to address quality at this point, as time will tell. Daryl gave me a Serpaco questionnaire to complete and return & I commend Serpaco for its interest in customer satisfaction.

You do not often find a company that does not add extras fees. There was a lot more work that needed to be done and the provider kept his word and original bid. They were here the majority of June. They completed a variety of extra tasks at no additional fee.

Serpaco Painting LLC fit me into their schedule. I was impressed they didn't charge me anymore than necessary for the floor damage so that was a nice surprise. They also provided me guidance - on things I didn't know but they thought would be helpful to me such as changing the locks on the door panel to a deadbolt one to increase security and getting a backdoor with 36" access for my wheelchair-bound son, etc. I will be using Serpaco Painting LLC in the future. I strongly recommend them!

Upon contacting the company, we had a visit from Nick (the owner) within just a few days of the initial call for an estimate. Nick went through the entire scope of work and provided a detailed list of the areas that would be painted and recommended a heavy duty primer on the rough cedar section of the home that receives a lot of sun and weather. Upon accepting the offer, Nick had his crew on site within about 4 weeks. At the beginning of the week Leo (foreman) arrived and pressure washed the entire home in preparation for any repairs and painting. Once the crew of painters arrived, they scraped and prepped the entire home for priming and painting. Along the way we did see the need for some siding and soffit repair that they immediately addressed. All in all it took them about three days of work starting around 8:30 AM and working hard through the day until near dusk. I would like to compliment Nick and his team fro working with us through a slight deviation from plan. (Immediately following the pressure wash we realized that a squirrel had gained access to our attic through a hole in one soffit. We had another company set a trap in this area so as a result the painters could not work directly in this area. About 3 days after completing the exterior painting, Leo had a guy here to finish patching up and painting this section.) Leo ensured us that he had added quite a bit of caulking around the exterior of the home that either had deteriorated or never been done before continuing with the final coat of paint. As I had mentioned, this is the second time we have used Serpaco Painting. The last paint job lasted about 10 years. I believe this in itself is a testimony to the kind of quality work Nick provides along with the excellent paint products he uses. Our only hope is that Nick and his company is still around in 8-10 years when it will be time to freshen up the place once more! Thanks Leo and Nick!
