Capital Appliance was extremely helpful in arranging to have Sid come and check my refrigerator the same day I called. The refrigerator side was frozen and when it thawed out, the ice maker lines had cracked from being frozen. Sid was very professional and immediately diagnosed the problems and ordered the parts. He returned as promised to install parts. Very satisified.

No problems whatsoever. Lynn (the service tech) identified the problem in about 5 seconds (evaporation fan). He didn't have the part with him, but he promised to acquire the part and return the following day to fix the refrigerator. In fact, he returned later the same day with the part and in a matter of minutes the refrigerator was back in business.

Our dryer stopped working over the weekend. I called Capital at 8:00 a.m. this morning (Monday), they asked a few questions and set an appointment for between 11:00-12:00. The technician arrived promptly at 11:00, diagnosed and fixed the problem (heating element) in 20 minutes.

Our freezer was working fine but the fridge was not getting cold enough or staying cold even on the coldest setting. I called capital appliance on a Thursday and over the phone they told me what they thought the problem might be best case and worse case scenario. They offered to come out that day however due to my schedule they came out the next day between 10 and 11 and offered to call 30-45 minutes before arriving. The repair man called about 9:40 and said he was near by and offered to come early which I accepted. He was very knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. He explained everything he saw and what he was doing. After unclogging the vent he told me that 90% of the time when he fixes this problem he never has to return however sometimes the actual vent piece does need to be replaced. He asked that I give the fridge 2-3 days to cool back down but if by Monday it was not down to it's regular temperature to give them a call and they would order the part and be back out by Tuesday. He also told me the cost of the part if it needed to be replaced and told me they would not re-charge another fee for coming back to replace it; I would only need to pay the cost of the part. He was able to charge my credit card right there after completing the repair. The freezer and fridge are working great so I did not need to call them back to replace the part. Overall I felt they were honest and up-front with all the prices. I paid $75 for a home visit and labor on a 24 hour notice. Other companies had quoted me up to $200 just to come and take a look three days later with a 4 hour window and no call ahead. I was very pleased with the service, prices, and quality of work. I will definitely use this company for any and all appliance repairs in the future.

Even though we called Capital Appliance Repair late in the day, they were able to schedule an appointment for a convenient time the next day. Lynn called us about 30 minutes before the appointment to tell us he was running early and asked if he could come before the appointment, which was nice. He took his time, examined the freezer, and determined that it was probably a buildup of ice in the fan beneath the icemaker. He loosened the cover over the fan, which should allow any further condensation to run into the drip-pan rather than remain in the fan housing. Lynn explained some of the basics of how our freezer works (so we can determine in the future what really merits a service call), and also gave us some great advice regarding our dishwasher, which only needs a minor part. He was extremely nice, had a great sense of humor, and provided an all around great experience. If we need further work on any appliances in the future, we're asking specifically for him.

Even though we didn't meet them in person, the staff were extremely knowledgeable, nice, and professional.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator started to leak a small amount of water on a Friday night and we called to see if we could get a repairman to come out and fix it. Capital Appliance had good reviews and was open later than others so we called them. I was a little worried because we were calling a few minutes after closing time, but they still answered the phone and were extremely helpful! The manager said he did not have an appointment available until Monday, but he didn't want us to not have help so he asked Sid to help us over the phone. Sid talked my husband through diagnosing the problem on a Friday night after 7pm. He was very knowledgeable and extremely kind to help us out after hours! He even offered to stop by the house on his way home if we needed assistance or if the leak became an emergency. We were able to stop the leak for now. We are waiting the weekend to see if it leaks again and if so, we will call these guys to come out to fix it. We were extremely pleased with the level of care and consideration they provided to us after hours. We will definitely use them in the future for appliance repairs needs.

This was a great service appointment. They answered the phone after 6pm to allow me to reschedule service time to an earlier time to work better in my schedule. They showed up when they said they would, and the service professional called beforehand to let me know he was on the way. Service professional took time to check everything out, found the source of the problem, repaired it and tested dishwasher out. I would definitely use this company again.

When I called Capital Appliance Repair I asked if they repair Jen Air refrigerator and if they are Jen Air authorized repair company, the answers were yes. When the service man came (on time) I noticed that he didn't check the refrigerator in a similar way as I have seen from previous repairmen from other companies. He did not read the manual I brought out, hardly touched any of the electronic controls. He started to get an inner panel off in the freezer because he saw ice forming there. He spent most of the time talking to us. After awhile he said that he couldn't get the ice out and stopped. There is a heater behind the panel he said and it may be the problem. I asked that if the ice meant that the heater is broken, he said no. I asked him several times during his visit that he should call the manufacturer, as previous repairmen did, I said repeatedly that part of the refrigerator is still under warranty. I asked him specifically if they are jen air's authorized repair company and he said yes. I also said that previous repairmen from other companies called and talked to the manufacturer directly for the repair. He said that it was too late in the day to call but he wrote down the needed info and the people in the office would call tomorrow and get back to me. Two days later without receiving calls from them I called and talked to the owner Greg. He said they are NOT Jen Air authorized repair shop, if I want factory warranty repair call Jen Air (whirlpool) myself. They don't work with factory warranty - it takes too much time (which is 200% true) for them. He offered to repair my refrigerator for 700-800 dollars. The repairman came to our house also offer the same thing, without the diagnose of what's wrong with our refrigerator. Actually, the repairman said it is likely that the coolant (SF6 gas) is low although I told him the previous repairmen didn't think so and top it off in the previous repair. If your refrigerator has factory warranty, avoid Capital Appliance Repair. In addition, my experience told me that they are not trustworthy. This company got very good score in Angie's list and that's the reason we picked it. But our experience with it is really disappointing. Angie said in a recent commercial that the list helps members to make sure the money is worth to spend when you about to spend it. It didn't help this time.

Response from Capital Appliance Repair
It's hard to know where to begin with this review. (member name removed) called and said she had a JennAir fridge that was eight years old that was "under warranty". I told her unless she had an after market warranty or some sort of extended warranty that I was not familiar with, then the original Whirlpool warranty (which now owns JennAir) was well out of date. She insisted she had a warranty with WP and that several companies had come out for her appliance and none had repaired it. I suggested she call Whirlpool and informed her that we did NOT do warranty work for any factory and that we wouldn't bill third party. However, we would be glad to inform WP of our finding but would in no way act as her agent to force WP to honor their "warranty". After all, we are repair technicians NOT attorneys. So, if she wanted her fridge repaired after having been informed of our policies we would be glad for her business. I was as clear as the English language allows. She said please come and fix my fridge! So, we went by, determined she had sealed system problems (which I already told her was likely), gave her a price (admittedly expensive but compressors are) and she declined service. We charged our usual service call fee as I told her we would. Then, over the next several days she called and called asking us to call Whirlpool for her etc. I reminded her of our pre-appointment conversation and informed her I would be happy to talk to WP but that I was not about to call anyone on her behalf and that I can find much better use for three hours than sitting on the phone with Whirlpool. She was not satisfied and wanted a full refund. I refused…still refuse! We are a Cary company, and we drove all the way to Pittsboro at her insistence after being made aware of our opinion ad infinitum. Sorry no refund, and (member name removed) please call someone else in future. We are an honest company and will accept only honest customers.

Came back from Thanksgiving with family to find our fridge had died. I called in the afternoon and the repairman came by on his way home that evening. The dryer wasn't spinning or heating when we pressed the start button. After checking the house breaker, etc., we called Capital Appliance Repair. The folks we talked to (on two occasions) were polite and professional. The service technician, Sid, came promptly, with good communication about when he would be here. He first suspected an internal fuse, but he checked the fuses and the power levels at various points and concluded that the timer was getting power but not sending it on, so he strongly suspected the timer was bad. He elicited from us further information that my wife had had to push on the timer knob or wiggle it lately, which further confirmed his suspicion of the timer. He said he could replace it, but he recommended buying another dryer, e.g., from an area Lowes Home Improvement store if one had a similar unit in "scratch and dent". I tried to find one at a Lowes or on CraigsList, but couldn't find any deals that were particularly attractive, so I concluded it was better just to repair what we had, since we are trying to save money at the moment. I called Capital Appliance Repair back and asked them to have Sid replace the timer. He obtained the part and came back the next day. He installed it and the dryer works fine now. I particularly like a tradesman or service technician who tells me candidly that a repair may not be worthwhile, rather than just taking my money in a short-term job that doesn't serve my interests long-term. Sid gave me good advice that might well have decreased his income but served me as his customer well. I didn't feel bad at all about giving him the repair work after I'd investigated available deals on dryers at the moment. I'll also call them if I need work done again. The only detraction from a perfect score on the recommendation is that the price of the visit and the part were probably not as low as they could have been, but the service was very good, so I didn't mind paying for quality, even though I have to note that the price was appropriate for high quality and thus not a discount price.

We were pleased with their response time and their repair.
Description of Work: Our 1978 Maytag washing machine dripped a little water into the tub when I opened the lid - unusual. (I had already turned the faucets on.) I went ahead and put a small load of clothes in and ran the machine. Near the end of the damp/dry cycle (spin), the tub started filling up with water so I turned it off. This happened on a Thursday, and I called one company to fix it. When they didn't show up Friday morning as scheduled, I called Capital Appliance Repair mid morning, and they said they'd send someone out between 1-6 pm that day. The repair man called and actually came over early - around 1:30 - and replaced a fill valve within the hour.

Our double oven failed completely. After we saw the code on the oven control panel screen we looked up the suggestions in the manual and tried everything they said only to end up with the "if this does not work call for repairs". Called Capital aka Cary Discount Appliance first thing in the morning. He cound not have been more pleasant and helpful. After a brief history he told me while the manufactor does not tell you this when they suggest unplugging the oven to see if that corrects the problem you actually need to leave it unplugged for at least an hour and a half to give the mother board a chance to reset. He sugggested I try that first to avoid having to have a service call and if that did not work call him back and he would get someone right out. I unplugged for 2 hours and when I turned it back on the ovens were up and running. I appreciated his tip that did not gain him anything. He could just have easily have come out and charged this desperate women who needed her oven for Christmas entertaining. Next time we need repairs we are giving them a call.

Our two-year-old Maytag washer filled with water but did nothing else. Saw other reviews that said to unplug for an hour, but did not help. You left a message on Saturday and we got back to you on Monday. We are a repair company, and although we do often times run emergency calls on the weekend we are not the emergency room at Wake Med. And furthermore we didn't perform a service for you, and you feel the need to leave a bad review based on us not calling you back ON THE WEEKEND? Plus, it's impossible to troubleshoot an appliance over the phone, so how could we quote you an exact price, which seems to be what you require. And lastly, how did Sears work out for you? They charge at least three times as much as we do with response windows of DAYS!

I called Friday just at the close of business (I wasn't expecting the problem to be resolved over the weekend, just wanted to get my name on the list for first thing Monday). As promised, Jason, the tech called when on his way and arrived as scheduled. He problem solved and decided the most likely culprit was a particular part, ordered it and brought it out later that first day. Again, calling before arriving. Part was not the problem. It was getting late. He explained that he would problem solve and confer with others and get back to us the next day. He returned as expected with a plan and we all agreed on a logical course of action to pull things apart and test various parts. After doing so, he reconnected everything and Voila! the 14 year old may see her 15th birthday. Jason was very courteous, knowledgeable, and communicated all options to us, listened to our concerns, and took into consideration our wishes not to spend a lot of money fixing this thing if it just wasn't in our best interest. We feel that he really did treat our situation like he would a member of his own family or friend. He didn't waste our time or money, he was honest. We appreciate all the communication and problem solving Jason did. We will definately call Capital Appliance Repair when we have a need in the future. We'd love to see Jason again.
Description of Work: 14 year old GE Profile side-by-side refridgerator began powering off/on late on a Friday afternoon. Problem could have been anything and we feared it was a short in the wiring. Due to the age of the fridge, we weren't sure how much money we wanted to spend on it. Perhaps just best to buy a new one. We had overnight guests coming the following week. Took two days, two house calls to problem solve, strategize with others and try parts to resolve. But it got fixed for essentially trip charges/labor, saving us thousands of dollars and headach and we really like these folks.
