We are very pleased with Citywide movers. They showed up on time, worked hard the whole time, and completed the job in fewer hours than estimated, thus the actual price was lower than the estimate - which is always a good thing. Three guys showed up ready to work. They laid down runners over the carpet and floor. The company charges by the hour * the number of people they send to move, plus a 1 hour minimum travel time (from the old location to the new location). They sent 3 guys to do our move. They were on the go the whole time. It?s remarkable how many boxes they can get on a two wheel hand truck! Clearly, they wanted to be efficient. They were very courteous and polite. I don't think we had anything damaged during the move. Nothing got lost in the move. There were no "hidden charges" or additional costs. A good experience overall. If possible I will use Citywide for my next move without hesitation.
Description of Work: Moved us from one house to another. Moved furniture, moved boxes that we had packed, and a flat screen TV; that was not boxed.

Went well, very nice guys. Not one thing was broken. They went to different locations to collect our things. They were a bit unprepared to pack us, even though that was a big part of our requested service.

The story of my move by citywide Movers is too long to repeat, but he complaint letter I sent to the Better Business Bureau was three pages long. Suffice it to say that the day day of my move was a NIGHTMARE! Without a doubt, Citywide Movers is the most incompetent company with which I have ever dealt and the owner is most unpleasant and rude. The day of the move was not only on Labor Day, but also it was extremely hot and humid. They movers arrived on time (9am), and the Foreman was very pleasant and mentioned to me that they would appreciate tips at the end of the move. However, after a few hours, it was apparent that they did not want to be working on Labor Day, and as the day wore on, they became quite careless. After a two hour lunch break, they returned to my house and begin to literally throw my boxes out of the moving truck, letting them bounce on the cement floor of my garage. When I complained, the movers became indignant and announced they were through for the day and then left. It was 4pm. Among the furniture that remained at my old house were the bed, sofas and bed linens.. I had nothing to sleep on in the new house and the electricity had been cut off at the old house, so I couldn't go over there for the night. I was furious, and dealing with the owner of Citywide was extremely unpleasant. After communicating the events of the day with the owner, he told me that he needed to speak to the movers themselves and then he would get back to me. I never heard from him again, even after I contacted VISA and requested that my pmt. to Citywide movers be cut by 40%.. VISA honored my request, and still I was not contacted by the owner of Citywide. After unpacking all my boxes, I discovered some broken items, including a broken sewing machine (which I had seen them drop) plus a broken bedpost, a long scratch on my dining room table to and a large crack in the leg of my piano bench. Because the contract I signed stipulated that I had two weeks to in which to make a damage claim, and because it took me more than two weeks to unpack and discover the damaged furniture, I did not submit a claim. However, this does not change the fact that the movers were careless with my items, resulting in damage. The main problem that I have with these movers is that on a whim, they walked out without finishing their job (for which they had already been paid ) and leaving me without anything to sleep on. Then, the rudeness and total lack of concern by the owner of this company was absolutely unwarranted..
Description of Work: Contracted Citywide to move contents from one house to another. The two houses were only 4 blocks apart. and the move was to take 1 day. The primary reason I chose Citywide Movers was because they advertised that they moved pianos and I had a baby-grand piano. I packed the contents of the house myself, following the "how-to" instructions from Citywide. I booked a moving date 3 weeks in advance. I gave Citywide their choice of three possible moving dates. The date they chose happened to be Labor Day.

Although we do not agree with the issues you expressed, we do regret you feel you had an unpleasant experience with our company. Please rest assured that in the eight years since your move, we have worked diligently to refine our policies and procedures. Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction which is clearly reflected by an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and an A rating on Angie’s List. While not every move can be perfect, it is an extreme rarity that these kinds of situations arise.

Beware of extra fees! I had a move scheduled with Citywide Moving Systems, but after I was told that I'd have to pay an additional $125 travel fee, I cancelled it. The fine print clearly does not state any such fee (as it states on their other deal) and they refused to honor that. I was actually told to contact Angie's List to discuss my concern. It is appalling to me that a company would send their own client to a third party instead of discussing and clearing the issue up themselves. Moving is stressful enough without having to jump through hoops. I will never use Citywide Moving and would not recommend them to anyone else. Their only redeeming quality was Kathy who was always kind and responsive on the phone. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the management.

We apologize that the coupon offers that you purchased were unclear. The $150.00 for $250.00 of services was meant to be used for packing services, not necessarily moving services. Some of the verbiage was omitted and we are in the process of revising the coupon to be clearer. We strive to make sure that each customer is happy and we regret that was not your experience. Thank you for your feedback.

We found Citywide on Angie's List after my husband had made a few less-than-successful calls to local yellow pages' advertised "piano movers." The woman he spoke with on the phone at Citywide was very friendly, informed and helpful. They were able to set up the move for less than 3 days from the time of our call--awesome! The crew of 3 men from Citywide actually showed up early! The home the piano was moved from is up for sale so we gave them the entrance code and they had it entirely loaded and ready to go on the truck when my husband got there! When they arrived in Rock Hill they were very courteous, polite and professional. They surveyed the driveway, where the piano was to be placed, etc. before beginning the unloading and moving in process. They quickly and efficiently brought everything in and set the piano up. They actually lifted and moved it around several times for me until I felt like it was in the "right" spot. I will definitely call them first for any further moving needs I have--not just for pianos. A great company to work with all around.

I don't think it went great at all overall. Everyone seemed pleasant but like I said before, I honestly feel like I was taken advantage of. I should have done more homework and I should have asked a LOT more questions that I didn't know to ask until it was done. Get estimates people. Make sure to do your homework. There are far cheaper services who may be just as good.
Description of Work: I called City Wide due to the reviews here. I was told over the phone i'd be charged per box and not per hour to pack. It turns out this was what was done but the prices are WHOLLY more than I ever expected. They charge 45 dollars per box to pack dishes in. For packing roughly 60 boxes I had to pay nearly 1100 dollars. That's roughly 18 dollars per box. They used so much paper half the box was paper and they rapped silly things like stuffed animals. The packers were good and professional but it seems like more boxes and paper were used the needed and the estimate that I was given over the phone was no where near 1000 dollars and that was just to pack. It was going to be about 1200 more dollars just to move the stuff about 30 minutes away. I'd never had to hire movers before and I trusted them enough to tell them I had no idea what I was doing. I feel this was taken advantage of and so was I. I'm going to say here, as i know they will respond, when they showed up today (Tuesday) to move me, I wasn't there. I paid some friends over the weekend to move me and with all the stuff going on, I forgot to call them Monday to cancel. For this I apologize and take 100% of the blame for. I feel that I was mislead in what the costs were going to be and i was never told anything other than the price for the dish box. Make sure you ask for an estimate when the packers are THERE instead of waiting. When they told me it was going to be twice what I was accounting for I nearly had a stroke. The guys who came to pack were very nice though and made it a pleasant experience. It's a shame because I wanted those guys to move me but given the price, I just couldn't justify it. Make sure you get estimates before you agree to anything. This is something I should have done and did not do. All told, i had a very small house and not a lot of furniture to move and it was going to be over 2 grand. This just seems very excessive. I doubt i'll get to respond to their response but I'm anxious to read it. I honestly feel they should have told me more. I understand the prices and etc are there for my asking but I thought I'd asked all the right questions. Don't expect them to offer up any information you don't ask for.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience with us. We appreciate all reviews; both positive and negative. The positive ones definitely show that we fulfill our commitment of honest estimates, professional movers and stress free moves, just to mention a few. The negative ones show us areas that we need to improve on. We take our commitment very seriously. Most of these customers have at least allowed us the opportunity to try and take care of any problems they may have had during their move. This is why we are incredibly surprised by this review as we have not heard from you regarding this matter until you posted this review. We would have appreciated discussing your grievance and possibly resolving any issues you had with us before posting this review, but without a phone call to let us know that you were not satisfied, how were we going to know? The proper thing to do would have been to call our office as soon as you realized the cost of your packing was going to be more than you expected so that we could see if their was anything you could do to minimize your charges. Per mover guidelines, we charge a pack job by the box. Each box price includes the labor to pack, packing paper and tape. The prices you were quoted are industry standard as we are regulated by the NC Utilities Commission. We have reduced our rates from the maximum amount we can actually charge. Your pack job had a total of 62 boxes packed. From your total cost this is an average of $16.83 per box. We feel this price is more than fair. On average, the price of packing is about twice as much as the move itself. We strive to ensure that each customer has a clear understanding of what to expect during the process. As for the procedures of packing, we treat all items as if they were our own. You have to understand that we have no idea what is precious, valuable, treasured or even irreplaceable to the customer not to mention we are responsible for any breakage or damage. Therefore, we take extreme care to ensure that there is plenty of padding to protect all items packed. While we regret that the price was more than you anticipated, we can assure you that neither you nor the situation were “taken advantage of”. That is not the practice of our company as you can see by our A rating on Angie’s List. Please note we would have also appreciated a call to cancel your move that you booked for Friday, February 15th. This would have prevented us from sending three movers 45 minutes away to your home to perform your move just to discover you had already moved yourself. Even though we incur the fuel expense and the travel for our movers, they were not able to be sent on any other job that day. Please feel free to call our office should you have any questions or additional comments regarding this response.

In a word, they were fantastic. From the office staff to the moving team, everyone was professional, courteous, and great to work with. We used a local competitor years ago for a smaller move and it ended up costing more for lower-quality service. Tim, Chris & Anthony took great care with our furniture and were very efficient with their time. I hope we never have to move again, but if we did we would not hesitate to hire Citywide.

We hired Citywide Moving to move us 2 miles into a rental home as we were embarking on a major addition/renovation project at our home. It is a temporary move so we boxed a lot ourselves into the "unpack/don't unpack" categories. We hired the company to pack our kitchen as we have a lot of glass stemware, etc. Our experience was excellent - from the first call/interaction with Kathy, the estimate that Joel gave us on-site and the team that Joe managed that actually packed and moved us. We will be using them again when we move back into our updated home.

Hired Citywide Moving Systems to move about three or four rooms of furniture. Most of the furniture had already been disassembled. The furniture was moved to a storage facility. Estimate process was pretty simple. Only issue was being told something was included in the price that was actually extra. We caught the problem prior to the move and Citywide honored what was quoted with no problem. The movers that came to do the actually move were on time, super nice, friendly, professional and a great group on guys to work with. I would recommend Citywide Movers to anyone.

I highly recommend Citywide Moving Systems, whether you are moving crosstown or cross country. They have performed multiple moves for me (in 2003 and 2012), local and long-distance. I have never had any of my possessions damaged. Their personnel are caring, careful, extremely professional, and a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: First floor household goods in my NJ home damaged by Hurricane Sandy were loaded into Citywide's truck and brought to Charlotte for restoration and reupholstering. Removal from the house was very difficult because the furniture was topsy-turvy. The movers took their time and were very particular about how they packed the truck because a number of items were still damp (i.e.rugs, upholstered pieces).

I found Citywide on Angie's List and visited their website for a quote. I received a phone call the next day, during which the representative walked me through an analysis of all pertinent aspects of my move and eventually quoted me an hourly rate that beat all others I'd received. I want to mention that she was so incredibly friendly and forthright, I felt like an already established and valued client. Even if priced slightly higher than other movers, I'd most likely have chosen Citywide based on that conversation alone. A couple of days before my move, I received another call from the same person, confirming my appt and checking on any new questions I may have had. I appreciated that. On moving day, the 2-man team arrived exactly on time. These guys were so great -- it was like having friends over to help. They both had such a great sense of humor -- which I totally appreciate, especially during something so stressful like a move. It didn't get in the way of their focus and skills, though. They knew what they were doing and treated every last item like it belonged to their own family. Although my move was relatively small in terms of "stuff," it was big in the sense that they moved me down from a 2nd floor location and then up to a 3rd floor location... with no elevator and lots of steps. In the end, they finished way sooner than expected and I felt as though I really got a LOT for the price I paid.

Citywide did an excellent job. Rod Matthews (company owner) came to our house and gave us a detailed estimate to move our belongings, as well as a detailed estimate to do all of the packing. We opted to do the packing ourselves. His crew showed up on time and were very courteous and professional. Rod estimated 8 hours of labor, and they finished the job in 7.5, so we ended up saving a bit over the initial estimate. The move included a grand piano which was handled with care. We received bids from other moving companies and Citywide was competitive with others.

When they came in to start, I was a nervous as a hungry tiger. The crew chief saw this, and came over to me and said this..Sir, we are here now, and all you need to do is relax. That really made me feel better. These 3 men worked like dogs for 9 hours straight, stoping only briefly to rehydrate. I was tired just watching. While moving is never fun, these gentlemen made it better. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: The crew of 3 moved 4 rooms of furniture and lots of boxes. Even though the move was only a five block move, it took 9 hours. Apartment buildings, unfortunately, aren't built with moving in/out in mind. The move went very well. My belongings were treated with respect and everything was done correctly, including left over packing we left for the crew. I would recommend these fine men to anyone.

Citywide was very helpful over the phone in explaining their services and scheduling a date. They had hourly rates for the move depending on how many movers they sent, which I liked. They explained their monthly storage rates by size. I was moving a 2,800 sq ft 4BR home with bonus room and piano and weight set to a 2,400 sq ft 4BR home. I sold the bonus room furniture and the furniture from 1BR ... and was bringing some furniture with me to an apt while I waited for a new home to be built. After describing the bigger pieces of furniture over the phone, it was anticipated that I would need a 10x15 storage room. When the team of 3 movers arrived to load the truck, they were absolutely wonderful. They were prompt and took great care to label and move all of my items. I was very impressed with the professional handling of a grandfather clock and baby grand piano. Great experience until I got the first bill for storage that included TWO rooms, a 10x10 and 10x15. I called the billing department and was told my things would not fit into a 10x15 and a 10x20 was not available ... so they put me into 2 storage rooms that amounted to a 10x25. I was not happy about this and was told I would be called back after a manager reviewed the situation. I was not called back. I called 3 more times and specifically asked for my call to be return .. it was not. I do not recall it being explained to me in the initial call that if a room the correct size was not available, I would have to pay for a larger storage room. When it came time to move me in, the new team was prompt and moved my items in quickly (which I appreciate due to the hourly charge). I had a few issues after the move. The grandfather clock is not working and a hutch was not attached to an office desk. When I went to move the desk to paint the room, the hutch fell over and heavily damaged the desk (and my arm). I'll be sure to check next time. Overall, a mixed experience. Parts wonderful, parts not wonderful.
Description of Work: I had a 4 bedroom house that I had packed myself moved, stored, and unloaded to a new location. Also included a baby grand piano, a weight bench and weight set and grandfather clock.

Thank you for the information regarding your move. This is the first we have heard of the problems you had but wanted to take a moment to address them. We were unaware that the grandfather clock was not working. 99% of the time this is a very easy fix and would like the opportunity to come out and take a look at it. As far as the hutch is concerned, our movers are accustomed to reassembling anything that we disassemble. Whether it was originally attached or not, we should have taken the extra time to ensure that it was properly attached. When we come to take a look at the grandfather clock, we will also inspect the desk to determine what damage can be fixed. We plan to address this at our next company wide meeting as well as a couple of other issues that have come to light. As for the storage, it is difficult to determine the size of a unit unless there is a visual estimate performed. In the future, we would advise that a visual estimate be performed so that an accurate quote can be provided and to ensure that there is no discrepancies. We will continue working hard to ensure customer satisfaction and appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we can be better. Please call our office to schedule a time that is convenient for you for someone to come out.

Rod came out personally to survey our house and what would be required to move us. He provided tips on how to handle odd/bulky items and offered to have his crew bring materials to pack our glass table tops and TVs. His quote was very accurate and he gave us 1 month free storage at their facility! I would definitely recommend Citywide for any local moves.
Description of Work: Citywide moved us from our house into their storage facility while we were waiting for our new house to be finished. They brought a crew of 6 men who were on time, extremely professional and efficient. They did a great job wrapping our furniture securely with pads and worked well as a team to move the large items. They completely loaded up our house onto 2 trucks in less than 5 hours. When they left, there was no damage to any of our walls, floors, etc. We are using Citywide to move into our new house in October and have requested the same crew of 6 men again!

I plan to call all the BBB, and perform a google review as well. Horrible exerperience
Description of Work: I strongly recommend that you do not use this company at all Here is my issue's 1. Driver stated twice that his helper was drinking on the job2. I mentioned about bringing boxes, they did not. Had to have someone deliver more pads and boxes 3. They scared my headboard because they used a strap across without a pad. driver stated he ran out of pads. it had to be repaired by owner.4. I rented a trailer on my own, and they placed a heavy piece in the trailer without letting me know, and I had them return to take it with them.5. I called the owner after leaving and stated my concern about the way the truck was packed. The owner called back and said he agreed that the back of the truck could have been packed better and they needed to repack.6. I told the owner I was concerned about My 3 flat screens and he assured me no worries, sure thing as a result one was damaged. They placed the TV in a way that I could not see the screen against my couch and claimed I said it was OK. That is a Lie!!! I paid 1500.00 for this TV 3 years ago and today to replace is 850.00. I sent pictures and a claim form stating the damage and thier policy is 60% of weight, not value. My reimburstment check is 60.00 dollars. After weeks of trying to get this resolved, this was an insult to me. Electronics dont have much weight, stupid policy.

Response from Citywide Moving Systems, Inc.
The member was loaded on July 3rd in Waxhaw NC and unloaded on July 6th in Cumming GA. From the beginning of his job, the member was concerned about how the last part of our truck was loaded. He had specific concerns about his televisions and expressed this in his phone conversation with me. I assured him I would check out the load when it returned to my warehouse and if there were any concerns I would address it personally. When I checked the load I decided to rework and secure the TV’s by adding additional straps and more padding to ensure the TV’s would be well protected during transport. I then called the member and assured him it was taken care of and there would be no problems. Upon unloading the member’s items at his destination in Cumming GA, he inspected each TV as it came off the truck and did not note any deficiencies or damage at that time. My movers put a TV on the sofa where the customer requested it be placed with the face of the TV against the back of the sofa. The member then asked the driver if they would help him put it on a stand before they left and the driver stated that they would. As the movers were finishing up, the driver noticed that the TV was now laying face down on the ottoman, so he asked the member if he still wanted them to help him put it on the stand. He stated that he had it under control. As adamant as the member was about his TV’s when he originally called me, I knew he would inspect each one when it came off the truck and this was confirmed by my driver. At the end of the job, the member signed all of the necessary paperwork and did not make any note or reference about a damaged television. I would think it would be impossible to overlook a shattered screen on a 50” television set. Most of our customers who are very concerned about items being moved ask us about additional valuation before the move starts. The member should have chosen a valuation for his household goods, which are listed on his bill of lading, before his move began but failed to do so. The member sent an email on Sunday, July 8th to my claims associate and reported that his TV was damaged. My claims associate was out of the office on Monday the 9th and returned on the 10th. In checking her email, she had the member’s first email as well as one he had sent earlier that morning at 8:39 am. He stated he had not received a return call from me and I should take his messages seriously because he did not want to take legal action. We are required to follow protocol and send customers a Statement of Claim form to fill out describing any damages, which we did. The member returned his form and had chosen the basic valuation which is $0.60 per pound per article. In reviewing his bill of lading #1001310 I confirmed that he failed to choose any option for valuation for his shipment and to ensure we are complying with interstate moving regulations, we contacted the American Moving and Storage Association. We were told that if a shipper fails to choose a valuation on the bill of lading at the time of the move, Citywide is responsible for $6.00 per pound per article which is Full Valuation. After investigating the specs on the 2009 TV it was determined it weighs 75 lbs. which would be $450.00. Having said this, the customer is responsible for paying for said coverage (Full Valuation) of his shipment which is calculated by our tariff and is determined by the weight and dollar amount of the shipment. The minimum valuation for the member’s shipment is $50,000.00 at the cost of $425.00. The member could have chosen and paid for a higher valuation amount at the time of his move but failed to do so. Therefore, I will be happy to send the member a check in the amount of $25.00. The last email we received from the member simply stated that he disagreed with our policy and had filed a complaint with the BBB and posted this statement on Angie’s List and had planned to post it on Google as well. To quote his last statement on his email “I will offer one more chance to make this right. If you will reimburse me 60% replacement value, then I will remove my comments and complaints.” In response, I feel thge member is slandering my company by stating my movers were drinking on the job which is not true. Furthermore, I do not appreciate his threats and will not be blackmailed by a customer in order to defend my company. I have been in business for over 20 years and my reputation speaks for itself. I take pride in satisfying the customers we serve but I will not be strong armed into paying for something that we did not do. Mr. Rod Matthews, CEO

We received an estimate in a timely manner after contacting them. The actual price was even less than their quote. They also responded to all questions before our move very quickly. Customer service was great. The entire move went smooth and that says a lot
Description of Work: We hired Citywide to do a local move for us from one house to another. We had four men for the move and it was raining half of the time. They did an excellent job with protecting our furniture and not damaging our walls (loading and un-loading). They also did a great job handling the rain and not dropping anything. Probably the best experience we've ever had with movers. Their crew was very professional and respectful and knew what they were doing. I would highly recommend anyone moving to contact Citywide and use their services.

I am a Professional Organizer in the South Charlotte area, and I arranged for a piano to be picked up from the store and delivered to my clients' home. I had previously contacted a company in Matthews and they were simply not prepared to even consider the job as we our only request was that this take place late afternoon on ANY day that suited their schedule. They were only prepared to do it before noon and as it was only a piano move were not prepared to accommodate our request. I then contacted Citywide Movers. What a professional company! They assured me that they could move the baby grand piano successfully and that is what they did. They were punctual and professional and to quote my client "I would certainly use them again and recommend their services".Stacy was wonderful and the job went off with no problems (despite the fact that it was raining and weather was not cooperating). I have used Citywide movers with another client and had the same wonderful experience.

This was a really great experience, from Rhonda in the office coordinating the move to the team of Shaun M., Joe W., Jim P. and Mike showing up the two days, getting everything moved and organized, being extremely aware of and responsive to our every need, and demonstrating great professionalism. This is a great organization, I would highly recommend them.

Overall they did not waste time and did an excellent job. They definately helped make the move easier.
Description of Work: They were competitive with the other moving companies in the area and show up ready to work with three guys. They were fast and efficient and moved the furniture without damage, all three men were doing something the entire time. They were respectful and worked until the job was done. They moved all the large furniture out of a 3 bedroom house and into an apartment close by in less than 3 hours. I definitely recommend.

Great Part: Not a thing was broken!! They didn't scratch my very expensive sectional. They didn't drop anything or lose anything. The three guys we had worked very hard and barely asked for anything. They were considerate and always asked where to put things and double-checked on instructions. They didn't complain and barely took a lunch. Just fantastic guys. We tipped them $50 a piece.Horrible Part: How does a $500 estimate get to be a $1200 move? Well the truck they decided to use (knowing full well we were moving TWO households into one) was too small and they had to make 2 trips to one of the households. We had to pay them by the hour and thought they would re-compensate us for part of the move since this was not our fault. They did not adjust the price for this and I was shocked. I still can't believe it but I am so happy in my new place I just decided we would just take this as a 'lesson learned'. But I wanted to post a review on Yelp so yall know about the bad estimating and bad customer service of Citywide Moving Systems.

I am truly surprised by this review. No one in my office has ever spoken to the person who wrote this complaint. The gentleman who booked this move spoke to our accounting department yesterday and had nothing but praise for Citywide. His only concern was the truck size and the travel it took for the second trip. The customer was immediately compensated for the additional hour. Customer service is the most important aspect of a business that provides services and we pride ourselves on it. I believe this is shown by being chosen to be included on Angie’s List honor roll. This was a local move from a two story home in Monroe NC with an extra stop at a third floor town home with an elevator and the final destination being a sixteenth floor apartment which also had an elevator located in Charlotte NC. This information was given when the gentleman booked his move. My sales representatives inform all customers that local moves are charged strictly by the hour and anything that is done prior to their move will of course lower the amount of hours it will take to complete their move. This customer found us on Angie’s List and I believe they chose us because of our outstanding reviews. I hope if our customer needs moving services in the future, he will consider the outstanding service he received and give us a call. Thank you, Donna Matthews, VP
