We were very excited about purchasing our new dream home last year. Unfortunately, dealing with this cabinet contractor has taken a lot of the "shine off the purchase" for us. The Wood Shed built decent cabinets I suppose, but did a less than satisfactory job installing them, and finishing them. The most disappointing thing about The Wood Shed has been their complete and total lack of professionalism, communication, follow-up, or their committment to customer satisfaction. The kitchen cabinets were installed with none of the nail holes filled and much of the rope trim is mismatched at the miter joints at the corners. They did eventually come back and fill the holes in a sloppy manner with putty or wax. I will attach photos to this report if I am able to do so. The Master Bath Room cabinets have been the biggest problem and one that is still unresolved after 10 months. The toe kick was installed in a sloppy and poorly crafted manner with ragged corners and split wood. After 3 or 4 months The Wood Shed did finally send some out to re-do this. The repair job, while better than the original install is still not that great and nothing one would expect from a professional, custom cabinet company. The other bigger issue with the Master Bath cabinets is that they were installed with the doors, drawer faces, and cabinet frame all being slightly different colors and finishes. They were all close, but noticeably different in shade, color and finish. It took months before our builder was able to get The Wood Shed to even come out and look at them and another month or two before they sent a guy out to repair them but he arrived without any of the proper tools or equipment. He did come back out twice more to work on them and each time he worked on them he made the problem worse. Now we have different color cabinets AND runs, drip marks, sags, and stain on the marble counter top and other areas that it is not supposed to be. The technician did not fully clean up after himself when he was done and left a thin haze of paint or lacquer on every surface in the bathroom (mirrors, hardware, everywhere). He also arrived without enough Acetone and asked to borrow my wife's nail polish remover so that he could do his job. Not impressive and not qualified. I am in the custom furniture business and refinishing business and know what I am talking about. I did not spend the money I did to repair new cabinets in my new home that were not done right by the manufacturer. The single biggest dissappointment to us, and why we would never recommend this cabinet shop to anyone, has been the completely unprofessional way they treat their customers. Phone calls and e-mails by us were ignored and unanswered. Our builder had a very difficult time getting The Wood Shed to move forward with making things right. There were appointments that were set that The Wood Shed simply never showed up for and never called to cancel. The owner had committed to our builder to come meet with us and the builder to go over the problems so he could see firsthand the problems but he never once came to see how shoddy his own product was. This after he had committed to doing so. So, we have adequate cabinetry but who wants "adequate" in their new home? If I ran either of my two businesses in this manner, I would have no customers at all in short order. The most amazing thing is that The Wood Shed says on its own home page "Superior service, quality installation and a one year warranty on all jobs puts us above all other competitors (http://woodshedcabinets.com)". Considering that 10 months after we moved in and all of the poor workmanship, lack of communication, and poor repair attempts the owner of The Wood Shed told our builder that he was done and not coming back any more. He said the cabinets are as good as they are going to ever be. So, in my opinion, you should use this cabinet company at your own risk. You can gamble and maybe you will have a good experience or maybe you will have the same experience that we have had. We will not be using them again and we will not allow their technician, Tim, in our home again.
Description of Work: We purchased a new custom home in the Preserve at Smith Creek in April 2009. The Wood Shed Custom Cabinets was subcontracted by our builder to design, build, finish, and install our cabinets in our kitchen, laudry room, Master bath, and gues baths.
