The job was done to our satisfaction. The plumbing company called before they were on their way and worked very efficiently and neatly.
Description of Work: Contractor replaced our garbage disposal with a new unit. He also unclogged a bathroom sink that was slow. The price includes the labor and the disposal unit.

I called about 11 AM Friday to see when the company had any time available to do the repair (another Angie's List company I called couldn't get to me until the following Wed.) They said they could come Friday between 12 and 3. The plumber called about 11:30 to confirm I was expecting them, and said he was about 30 minutes away. He arrived about 12:15 and was finished by a little after 1. He explained the problem in clear terms to me, and showed me what could be done. He explained the new equipment he installed. He was concerned that my toilet was still taking 38 seconds ti fill, and usually it should take only 20 seconds. He explained there might be a kink in the line, and he could check that if I wanted him to. He said it would not affect my toilet's function, just take longer to fill if we didn't check - I decided to wait on that repair for another time. He asked if there were any other plumbing issues in the house I wanted him to look at, when I said "no", he wrote my invoice.
Description of Work: Replaced the fill valve and flapper in my master bedroom toilet. The toilet had been running constantly, and even when it wasn't making a running sound, water was still trickling down the inside of the bowl. The parts were worn out, and he replaced them with a newer, more efficient fill valve.

Contractor was very helpful in troubleshooting the problem. Since most of the problem had to do with our roof, a discount of the hourly rate was given. I am very happy that the contractor went above and beyond to find the source of the leaks.
Description of Work: Contractor checked where the leaks were visible and proceeded to check the plumbing in our attic. Contractor found two leaks in the roof that were causing the problem.

A serviceman working on the venting of our drier noticed a leak in our crawlspace and reported it to us. We contacted Jim Dickerson Plumbing, who sent a repairman over that very day. He repaired the fitting immediately and brought us the broken fitting for us to see. This is the third time we have used this company, and have each time been extremely pleased with all aspects of their work and our dealing with them.

Would have used Jim Dickerson to repair irrigation, but they do not work on irrigation systems. The $100 I spent was the best dollars I've spent in some time on the house. Would certainly use Jim Dickerson Plumbing again. I recommend!
Description of Work: Plumber arrived promptly for the June 1 appointment to help determine source for leak around foundation. Through process of elimination, he determined that irrigation system was source of leak, not than the water line, as most others had predicted, that runs from meter to the house.

THEY CHARGE A PERCENTAGE EXTRA FOR USING A CREDIT CARD WHICH THEY DID NOT LET ME KNOW BEFORE THE WORK WAS STARTED. THEY ALSO CHARGED YOU FOR A FULL DAYS WORK, WHAT THEY QUOTED ME, BUT THE WORK THEY DID DID NOT TAKE AS LONG AS THEY THOUGHT. THE SECRETARY DID RETURN MY PHONE CALLS, BUT THE SERVICE GUY DID NOT RETURN ANY OF MY CALLS. THEY ALSO, DID NOT CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES AND LEFT A LOT OF MATERIAL IN MY LAUNDRY ROOM.

THIS WORK WAS DONE ON 8/23/06. WE DID GIVE HER A PRICE ON REPLACING SOME WATER LINES IN HER HOME. THIS WAS A QUOTED JOB, NOT A TIME AND MATERIALS JOB. SHE DID CALL AND SPEAK WITH OUR OFFICE ABOUT THIS AND WE EXPLAINED THAT SHE KNEW THE PRICE BEFORE WE STARTED AND AGREED TO PAY THE QUOTED PRICE. SHE NEVER MENTIONED THAT WE LEFT MATERIALS IN HER BASEMENT. I WOULD HAVE SENT THEM BACK TO REMOVE ANY MESS THAT WE MADE. ALSO, WE DO CHARGE A CREDIT CARD FEE FOR ANY AMOUNTS OVER $500.00.

The first technician came out and said there was nothing wrong with the pressure reducing valve. I called Jim Dickerson and explained the symptoms and he agreed the valve needed to be replaced. He still charged me $56.75 for sending someone out and doing nothing. Another technician came out and fixed the valve. It lasted a couple of days and then broke again. Another technician came out and fixed it again. That repair lasted 7 months and then it broke again. Each time the technicians came out they wanted to charge me their flat $100+ fee even when they were fixing their own mistakes. I finally hired another plumber and haven't had any more problems.

WE WENT OUT ON 10/6/06 TO CHECK HIS PRV. WHEN OUR PLUMBER ARRIVED HIS PRV WAS WORKING PROPERLY. WE DID CHARGE HIM A SERVICE CALL OF $113.50. ON 11/8/06, HE CALLED BACK AND SAID HIS PRV WAS NOT WORKING. WE RETURNED AND INSTALLED A NEW PRV. WE DID NOT CHARGE HIM FOR LABOR. THIS WAS PAID ON 10/6/06 CALL. WE DID CHARGE HIM $95.00 FOR THE PARTS. HE CALLED BACK ON 11/13/06 AND SAID THE PRV THAT WE INSTALLED WAS LEAKING. WHEN OUR TECH ARRIVE HE FOUND A DRESSER COUPLING (THIS WAS NOT PART OF THE PRV THAT WE INSTALLED) AT METER LEAKING. HE REPLACED THIS PART AND CHARGED HIM $113.50 SERVICE CALL.

No Service was provided! However, thanks to Angie's List, my service call was $100 instead of $125! My first 2 experiences with this company were pretty good. However, after being left feeling like I was taken advantage of, I won't use them again! I think the person taking the call should ask better questions about the problem and give recommendations if a customer is requesting a service that they don't usually provide. Instead of sending out a plumber whose experience is limited to unclogging drains and pipes to address an equipment issue.
Description of Work: Service Call (No Service Received). GFI Breaker for sump pump would not stay on. Called electrician who stated that breaker was good, so the problem was with the pump. Plumber opened Sump Pump cover pulled tubing out of the 7' or 8' hole that was filled to the top with water. I was told that the I needed to get someone out pump the water out of the hole so that he could see what's going on with the pump. (HE couldn't do it because he didn't have a way to contain the water). He stated that he'd have to charge me $125 hour to wait on person to pump water. He also stated that they carry pumps so he'd have to go and pick one up. Also, because it was Friday, he'd charge me overtime for any work done after 4:00 pm or he could come on Monday to install. Basically everything he would do has an hourly rate associated with it. In the meantime I'd be out of service over the weekend. Ended up getting a another company to pump out the water and install a new sump pump in less than an hour!

Mr. Dickerson came out himself to do the original walk around, investigation, and estimate. He took his time explaining the problem and the solution. He was the first person to tell me they may be able to get the new pipe under the driveway without having to damage it. I could tell from his experience and manner that he knew his stuff! After receiving the estimate, I scheduled the work. A very professional team of 2 men came out. They were right on time in the very early morning. They dug the narrow ditch from the sidewalk to the driveway and burrowed a hole under the driveway. They added the new pipe, asked me where I wanted the new shut-off valve, and tested the new pipe all within about 3 hours. I've had great water pressure since. Two people can actually use the water at the same time now! Also, the grass has re-grown in nicely and you can't tell I used to have a narrow ditch across my front yard. Also, they saved the driveway from some very expensive repair. Thanks!
Description of Work: The water pressure at my house was 50% lower then it should be (and was at the street level). The water pipe across the front yard was damaged in some way and was prohibiting the full force flow of water to my house. Thus, it needed to be replaced. Instead of digging up the entire front lawn and driveway, a narrow ditch was made and a new pipe was installed in the front lawn and it was burrowed under the wide driveway that separates the front lawn from the house. The old pipe was disconnected from the house and the new pipe was connected. A new water turn-off valve was also added. As soon as they turned on the water it worked perfectly! The narrow ditch was filled back up with dirt and new grass seeds were added for renewed growth.

The job got done, but couldn't have gone any worse. Due to mistakes and mis-coordination with my handyman service, a job that should have taken 2-3 hours took several days. I was then billed for work his men did not perform (almost $600 worth) and overcharged for parts. His price is far too high, not competitive at all. When they screw up, they make excuses and offer no accountability.

Jim had fixed my toilet 11 days earlier, so I scheduled this job while he was there. When the dispatcher called to schedule the appointment, I was told that I would have to go to Home Depot or Lowes to buy the parts. I contacted Jim the installer and long story short, Jim picked up what I needed along with some extra filters and installed it without a problem. He showed me where the filter was placed under the house and explained how to change it.

I called on a Friday and was scheduled that day, but Debbie called around 3:00 to say that if it was OK she'd send someone on Monday since it was still going to be a few hours before someone could make it. I appreciated the call, and it was no problem. She called on Monday morning to let me know a plumber was on the way. When he arrived, he checked out the kitchen sink area, which of course had no smell now! He told me what the problem might be and how I could fix it cheaply myself by getting a valve at a home improvement store and screwing it on. He then checked out the gas log, messed with it 'til it worked, and showed me how to light it again in the fall. (I'd never been comfortable with lighting it before and had left the pilot on year-round.) The plumber was clean and polite and it was a very pleasant experience. I was only charged for the service call, as he didn't really end up having to do a whole lot.
Description of Work: I called them out to check the sewer gas smell under my kitchen sink and to check out one of my gas logs on which the pilot had gone out on its own.

Beware: I was very unhappy with the lack of skill in the plumber that was sent to my home. While repairing a leaky pipe he actual flooded my kitchen. Then when I spoke with the owner about the problem, he denied that it was his responsibility or his plumbers responsibility. So my new wood floors are now damaged. I would never recommend them, not because they made a mistake, but because they would never consider taking any responsibility for the mistake, let alone try to make the situation right with the customer. Mr. Dickerson offered no restitution or even an apology for what happened. I had them do two kitchen remodels for me. Never again will I hire them.

WE WERE CALLED OUT TO THIS CUSTOMER'S HOME 2/10/06 (OVER A YEAR AGO). WE WERE TOLD SHE HAD A LEAK UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK. WHEN OUR PLUMBER ARRIVED HE SAW WATER COMING THROUGH CEILING IN CARPORT. HE REMOVED THE PLYWOOD AND FOUND 1/2" COPPER LINE LEAKING AND 2" KITCHEN DRAIN LINE LEAKING. HE REPLACED COPPER LINE FROM TEE IN CEILING WITH PEX PIPE THROUGH FLOOR TO SINK. HE REMOVED THE DISHWASHER AND CUT OUT WALL BEHIND THE DISHWASHER (WATER WAS SPRAYING OUT OF THIS AREA. WHEN HE GOT THE WALL CUT OUT, WATER STARTING POURING OUT OF THIS AREA. PARTLY WATER STANDING IN THE WALL AND PARTLY THE PIPE BURSTING WHEN WE CUT OUT THE WALL. HE TURNED OFF THE WATER AND SAW THAT THIS PIECE OF PIPE HAD BEEN REPAIRED IN THE PAST. IT HAD 3 DIFFERENT PIECES OF PIPE AND FITTINGS ON A 5' SECTION. ONE OF THE REPAIRS HAD CPVC PIPE GLUED INTO POLY PIPE. THERE WAS ALSO A CLAMP WITH A PIECE OF RUBBER ON THE COPPER SECTION OF WATERLINE. THERE WAS A NAIL THAT HAD BEEN DRIVEN THROUGH THE OTHER PART OF THE PIPE. THESE ARE ALL INCORRECT REPAIRS AND DO NOT MEET CODE. WE ARE SORRY THAT SHE HAD DAMAGE TO HER FLOORS. HOWEVER, WE ARE IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DAMAGE. THE PLUMBER WHO MADE THE ORIGINAL REPAIRS IS THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY. SHE WAS AWARE OF THIS WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AND DID SPEAK WITH JIM. HE DID TELL HER WE WOULD NOT COVER DAMAGES. WE HAD TO CUT OUT WALL TO LOCATE AND REPAIR LEAK. THE LEAK WAS ALREADY CAUSING DAMAGE.

I had a clogged drain - at least I thought I did. The Jim Dickerson fellow showed up and went straight to work - he told me that the air valve between the garbage disposal and secondary sink was clogged - so he cleaned that out. Then he told me that the valve would continue to back up and get clogged (it had been clogged several times before, but not a single other plumber ever told me about the problem until now) again and again because the valve was sitting too low below the drain level. So, he added a new pipe that would raise the level of the air valve above the drain level. He was a very courteous and friendly plumber and even made the effort to make friends with my dog!

I contacted Jim Dickerson Plumbing the morning of 4/11 to discuss some problems I was having with my garbage disposal. The disposal was leaking and I was not sure if it needed replacement or simple repairs. The woman I spoke to let me know that they could provide a disposal or I could pick one up myself if need be. Their price $105 - another company $78 - I chose the latter. Tim arrived at the designated time and initially thought it was a clogged pipe and worn out washer, however ultimately did have to replace unit. Tim was very pleasant to work with and once the problem was identified worked quickly to complete the project. I would certainly use these folks again. *While the price may not be the cheapest in town, you get what you pay for and I believe the work performed justified the cost.
