We started having issues with no hot water, or I should say we had only warm water. Our gas water heater was 12 years old so I was not too surprised. We called Jim Dickerson Plumbing and set up an appointment for the next day. They were friendly and helpful. The plumber called before he arrived and was within his scheduled time frame. As it turned out somehow our water heater was turned down to low. Not sure how that happened however we were happy that we didn't really have a problem. I was unhappy that I didn't figure that out on my own, it would have been a lot cheaper. But never the less I liked Jim Dickerson Plumbing and would use them again. I have had bad experiences with other plumbers and was looking for someone new to use. Very happy with them.
Description of Work: Checked our gas water heater that was not working properly.

Electrician, Scott, arrived early and performed the work mentioned above at my rental property. All work was done quickly, efficiently and neatly. There was no mess to clean up. Scott was professional, courteous and pleasant. I've used Dickerson Plumbing & Electrical several times over the past 10 years or so and am always satisfied with their reliability and knowledgeable staff.

Pricey!! They charge $147 an hour and charged me 1 3/4 hours. They added 15 minutes for driving time. To get my faucet fixed - no parts, etc., I think this was too much. Next time I will use a local plumber, and I should have used Angies online and checked prices and compaired companies rather than using the Angies monthly magazine and an ad I saw in there.
Description of Work: removed and disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated Danze kitchen faucet. Fauet was "fozen up" and when we would swing faucet the whole faucet would swing. Faucet was also not originally installed properly and came loose. Reinstalled faucet. Faucet still needs new cartridge, but they did not have one on the truck, so said they would have to come back if faucet leaks.

My sink clogged on a Monday. I spent Tuesday trying to find a plumber who could come asap and then, when I was unsuccessful, my husband and I tried to unclog the sink ourselves by taking off the trap and using a hand snake. On Wednesday I called Jim Dickerson plumbing and they sent someone that afternoon, at a time that was convenient for me. They couldn't have been nicer and their pricing, while not inexpensive, is fair and not inflated. The clog is gone, the service was prompt and friendly, and we are satisfied customers.
Description of Work: Bryan came out the very same day I called. He was friendly, professional and got the job done with a minimum of mess and fuss. I really appreciated both his straightforward manner and his warmth. My sink is no longer clogged and I am a happy customer.

First, the repairman called me to let me know he was on his way. He was very professional from the beginning. He was also punctual. I explained to him the problem and showed him the shower with the broken faucet. He realized that the problem was nothing more than a broken plastic handle - nothing to do with the actual plumbing. He recommended that I simply go to a home improvement store and purchase a replacement plastic handle and that would take care of the issue since there was nothing wrong with the plumbing. Another company may have told me that, yes, there was something wrong with the plumbing and that a bunch of parts would need to be replaced and upcharge me like crazy. However, this serviceman was honest and this honesty is greatly appreciated. I would recommend Jim Dickerson Plumbing and will use them again in the future myself.

All in all everything went great. I replacedl the pipes under my sink in my 2 bathroom also. Unfortunately, Brian also discovered that I needed to replace one faucet because of the plug handle trap filling up with hot water and dripping under the sink. I told him I will buy a new faucet kit and call Jim Dickerson Plumbing to come out again and install.
Description of Work: I had a busted pipe under my kitchen sink leading from my garbage disposal to the other pipe to the main drain. I used Angie's List and wanted to use a plumbing company in my neighborhood and JIM Dickerson Plumbing was it. The Technician was Brian. He came within 30 mins and even put on the booties before entering my home. That was great. He was here for an hour and I had him replace the mental pipes in my 2 bathrooms since there was signs of corrossion also. .

Dickerson's plumbers arrived on time, were professional in manner and appearance, and seemed skilled and knowledgeable. It would have been better if Mr. Dickerson had provided me a written estimate before the work was started. (We spoke by phone a couple of times.) All in all, the work went fine but the total cost was painful and unexpected. We will certainly call Dickerson Plumbing again but I will ask for a written estimate next time.
Description of Work: Dickerson Plumbing installed a new meter box and pressure control valve on the water line coming into our house. Because they also found tree roots in our sewer line, they cut out the roots and replaced the section of pipe. Prior to beginning work, they inspected the water line with a camera (with my permission).

I've been using them for years. This time, they came to fix a leak in the downstairs toilet and a clog in an upstairs sink. The workman had to make several trips out his van. I appreciated that he took care to cover his shoes coming in - and UNCOVER his shoes going out (yes, you'd be surprised how many just tramp outside with the shoe covers on and come right back into your house without changing them out). The total included parts and labor. They aren't the cheapest in Charlotte, but neither are they the most expensive. They always show up on time.

Ichose Dickerson because they had an emergency plumber available over the Christmas holiday. It turned out the parts dealers were closed anyway so the repair was delayed. The plumber showed up on time and agreed with my diagnosis of the problem as a faulty pump. He was helpful in suggesting a possibly less costly brand of replacement pump although that turned out not to be available. He said he could run over to the parts dealer, get the pump and install it right away. I told him to go ahead and he did so. I was gone when he returned so my wife paid. The new pump works well. The problem was the cost. I had been roughly keeping track of what the costs might be. I figured the pump might be $250 plus $100 to install plus $100 for the drains plus $100 for travel for a total of $550. The actual bill was $996.80. The pump turned out to be $388 (no fault of Dickersons but did they get a wholesale price?). However their labor charge was $147.00 per hour. Shame on me for not asking for their hourly rate and an estimate of the total beforehand. But, I wonder if $147 per hour is a competitive plumber's rate in Charlotte? Had I known the rate, I would have driven the 45 minutes each way to the parts dealer and saved the $220 "delivery" cost. No deduction on the bill for the Angies List coupon either. Since Dickerson appears to be good at responding, I was going to email this issue to him first, but couldn't find an email address on his website.

We have checked our GPS tracking on our truck and found our technician was at your home for a total of 3 3/4 hours. We charge a maximum of 15 minutes travel to your home. The total labor you were charged was 4 hours. We did not charge you to pick up the circulating pump. After checking our website we do see our email address is missing. We have notified the correct person so this can be fixed. We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please feel free to call us or email us at [email protected]. We appreciate your business!!!

So far so good until I got a look at this. I even recommended Jim to several people.I am embarrassed and Jim you should be too.
Description of Work: What I thought was a fairly good job turned out to be a disaster. I recently had to have some repair work done to the valve in my master bath where Dickerson did the work. When the plumber took the escutcheon plate off the valve it was a MESS. I wish I could show you a picture of the workmanship here. The valve was installed too shallow to compensate they wrapped wire around the neck of the valve stem and then tightened it down. The valve body is loose in the wall and is held in place by pieces of Romex wire.

This job was completed in 2008 and required permits from the City of Charlotte. Our plumbing was inspected and passed by a plumbing inspector. We had to place a lien on this customers property for non payment of services. We also turned him over to a collection agency. As of today we have still not been completely paid. Jim Dickerson is going to call customer and talk with him about this issue.

Don't expect them to be flexible on time if you want a quote.
Description of Work: I called to get an estimate for a bathroom remodel. They will not make appointments for estimates during times convenient for those of us who work full time. I was offered 10 am - 2 pm when I asked for an early appointment, and the "late" appointments don't go past 4 or 4:30. It doesn't seem like they are interested in working with customers on remodel projects.

First appointment was for job inspection. Everything goes well on that. No active leak was found. I requested to move sink grinder from small to larger divided area of sink since we were using mainly larg divided sink area gor crushable disposale. Next day i spokeat office for qoute. Lady told me it will cost me $ 475 dollar since labour of 3 hours at least required for this job. I agreed on that amount since they were telling 3 hours of labour. New guy came on time and finish the job witihn 50 minutes. I ask him that $ 475 is too much for lessthan one hour job ( remember they only used thier PVC pipes with my old grinder). He told me that he is middle man and haveno controll on it. He brought the ticket of $ 475 which i end up paying. Work was nice and clean but i was fooled by high qoute. It was one hour job. Be careful with this company. They might be good on their work but estimate of job was wrong. I end up paying too much for simple job. I should have get any handyman and have it done much cheaper.

My husband and I had trenched down the sidewalk until we finally gave up looking for the pipe. After Dickerson came out, we decided just to pay to have a new line run because they would charge us for someone to bring the location equipment out and a charge to run the equipment which was just getting ridiculously expensive. It was a straight shot from the meter to the houses main pipe. A STRAIGHT shot. I offered to fill in our trench and the Dickerson employee told us to leave it open for the guys the next day that it may be able to help them so we did. The following day, Thomas the Trencher comes out to trench and one would assume that he would do a STRAIGHT line from the meter to the house but because he was lazy (and on the phone) he ran the trencher 10 feet down the sidewalk where we had stopped digging and did this wide elbow turn. It happened so fast that by the time I walked to the back of the house to the front, he was already in the middle of the yard directly in the front door before I could stop him. By then it was too late, we already had a big 90 degree turn then a hard right making a curve. Thomas said, "If you wanted a straight line, you should have asked for one." Hummm, silly me! He also told me he could leave the job, it didn't matter to him. I was furious, we had words and called Mr Dickerson to come out. I waited as long as I could to speak to him and had to run to an appt. Mr Dickerson came out then called me and said, he didn't see a problem with it and honestly, if I wanted a straight line run from the meter to the house, I should have told Thomas I wanted a straight line. Apparently I'm missing something, I thought a straight line was not only the obvious but the right way of doing it. Mr Dickerson also said that I was "being picky". Humm. We agreed to disagree on the subject and that was it. They came out the next day and covered the line after inspection. Down the road my husband and I know that the pipe is 10 feet out of the way with a 90 degree turn with a curve but the next home owner won't be able to locate the pipe should it leak on down the road and will need to run another line. Bottom line, it wasn't a quality job.

When our technician's arrived to replace water service they found a ditch that was 2' wide x 2' deep x 8' long that the homeowners had already dug trying to locate the existing water service. All this dirt was placed in front of the home along the sidewalk. After our technician's where 3/4 of the way trenching the new line the customer asks "why did you not trench a straight shot from the meter to the home?". The technician's explained to her that they utilized her already dug ditch and made a small curve to go around all the piled up dirt. Our trencher only makes a 6" wide ditch. Jim Dickerson did go to the job site and inspect the installation that was passed by the City inspector and could not find any problem with the installation. We even back filled customers huge ditch at no charge.

We moved into a new house and discovered that the hot water heater was locked down. Called on a Saturday and a technician arrived. Problem was unusual; however, the technician was able to call on resources within the Company to help get the answer quickly. Problem was diagnosed and the system was quickly reset. Information needed to do this was not in the manual and was only possible because the Company had experienced personnel available to the technician to help diagnose the problem. This saved the technician time and saved us money.
Description of Work: New hot water heater with a flame protection system was shut down. Technician was able to call and get several resources to fix the problem. Problem was that the system detected paint fumes from interior painting. Technician reset system and everything is running fine. It was impressive to see that they had resources and the process in place to investigate a problem and come up with a solution.

The electrian and plumber were both extremely prompt and got their jobs done without any hassles or delays. Electrician had to tie into an existing electrical line and drill into the crawl space from the garage wall. He ensured there was no mess or damage to the walls. The quote was very competitive and he completed the work on time. The plumber tied into the crawl space gas line and ran the new line through the crawl space and under the deck to the location we chose. Upon completion of the initial install, the plumber contacted the county for the inspection. Upon approval, the plumber was back and completed the remaining install without any delays. Again, the work was done quickly and the work area was left clean afterwards.

Brian explained first that he could have problems getting the old flange out and may have to replace the 4" line if it broke and it would involve more work and would cost more because the toilet was on a concrete slab. He wanted me to know that and wanted my go ahead before he started. I said go for it. He worked very carefully removing the old flange and got it out. He replaced it with a removable flange so that would not be a problem in the future. It was a pleasure having a true professional this time.
Description of Work: A couple of years ago I had a different plumbing company fix a broken floor flange for a toilet. It eventually appeared to broken again. When I removed the toilet I saw where they hadn't actually replaced the flange but tried to fix it with a repair kit that failed. Whan Brian from Jim Dickerson came in he saw immediatlly what was wrong and replaced the flange with a new one, installed a new toilet and now everything is perfect.
