As I said never showed up.
Description of Work: Contacted them about reworking my French drain in my driveway and probably some asphalt work also. Initially heard right back from them within minutes and said it would be a few days before they would be in my area. Never heard another word until the end of June. Again said they'd like to come look at my issues. Gave them my schedule and number and haven't heard back since. This is a common issue I find in this area where contractors say they'll be there and never show up. So I wouldn't recommend them solely based on reliability. If you aren't available for a smaller job just say so, but don't string people along in the hopes that they will get the work done they need.

Response from Gibson's Grading And Construction
I did respond to this customer, I tried calling plus sending text messages, the text bounced back and phone said disconnected. After multiple attempts to contact with no avail I no longer tried to contact, when customers call me I respond which is reflected on the A reviews! I am reaching out and i would like to meet with this customer and look over her project in the next week or 2. (Update) Not to long after this was posted contact was made which came thru email, I did offer to her for us to come out as stated above, she declined and which she stated to me she never had any desire for us to look at the project to start with and already had someone else which I do not understand why she contacted us in the first place? As this went on she did have an attitude towards us and other service providers! We did not only tried to reach out but even tried to work with her with the poor attitude she had but it was very apparent after today she is not serious about this project and it was a game to her!

Excellent job
Description of Work: Scraping and placing gravel on a very challenging driveway. A few years ago David graded and repaired our driveway. He did an excellent job then. When we contacted David again to scrape the driveway, he returned our calls, (unlike other companies) and arrived exactly when he said he would. He went above and beyond what we asked him to do, but stayed within the budget we discussed. David is professional, punctual and takes a great deal of pride (as he should) in his work. We plan on using David annually to maintain the driveway.

Great! See above.
Description of Work: We had a wooden two-tier retaining wall that was starting to fail and wanted it to be replaced by a boulder/rock retraining wall. Being new to the area, I read Angie's List reviews for different businesses in this area that could complete a rock/boulder two- or three-tier retaining wall. I rec'd several estimates, but decided to go with Gibson Grading and Construction after reading their reviews and meeting with Mr. David Gibson (hereafter referred to as David). Even though David's estimate was slightly more than others, he was more knowledgeable and said he would do the work himself instead of handing it off to others as some of the other companies said they would (and just come by to check on their employees). The fact that David has a civil engineer degree helped in my decision. I did have to wait a few months to get on the schedule as Mr. Gibson does prioritize his jobs since he has some urgent requests (road washouts, etc.), so I completely understood. I am sort of a worrywort, and David is very laid back so that helped and he walked me through the process and let me and my husband go with him to choose the boulders/rocks we wanted for the wall so we were not surprised and worked with him throughout the process. Once David got into the job, he realized that the previous retaining wall had been built on sandy soil and that is why it was giving way (that, and other trash and concrete blocks in the sandy soil didn't help matters). They (yes, just David and his dad, Mr. Joseph Gibson) removed the old retaining wall/trash, and brought in some dirt. Utilizing two dump trucks and a tractor that had a fork lift, backhoe, and bucket (oh, and a gas-powered wheelbarrow!!), they were able to bring in huge boulders for the lower wall and medium size/smaller rock for the upper tiers and finished it off with mulch and river rock near the road. We live on a busy residential state road so they had to deal with all the traffic every time they set a boulder, etc. In addition, our road had just been re-asphalted this year so I was concerned they would hurt it with their equipment. However, I was just amazed at how clean they kept things as they worked and you can't even tell there was equipment on the asphalt as David brought in a rubber mat so that the tractor didn't crumble the edges of the asphalt. David used his amazing creativity in envisioning and building the curves for our retaining wall, picking just the right rocks to give it a very well-balanced uniqueness with textures and colors, and also in coming up with ideas so that I could maintain the plants on the bank safely. He worked some steps and another very small walking area at the top of the slope so that I wouldn't have to climb a steep bank to weed and maintain plants, also making sure that an electrical box on the hill was accessible and stable. In all of Gibson Grading and Construction Angie's List reviews, the theme that came through was that they were very dedicated and went above and beyond. This job was the same! If he had an extra boulder, or rocks, or mulch, or whatever from the job, he asked where I wanted it and put it there. His Dad Joe is his right hand and can also handle everything David does and they pretty much know what the other needs by just looking at each other! They are an amazing team and and it was my immense pleasure to have been able to work with them for that short amount of time. I will definitely call them back for my next project!! Oh, and the neighbors have ALL given their thumbs up to the beautiful work they did!

When I went out and looked over the project the old wood wall was in bad shape and falling over, we went over several options which one option was a rock/boulder type wall which is a more expensive option but it requires less maintenance, we started off by removing old wall and hauling off, re grading slope of the bank and prepping for rock. I had them go with me to pick out rock they liked then we started building, I made sure they was involved everyday with the construction process and like the placement of the rocks and its lines. Me and Dad really enjoyed working with them and we enjoyed building the wall for them, I really appreciate letting us building the wall and I look forward to the next project

When we started to trench for new septic lines we found that whoever installed previous lines ran them up hill thus causing leaking and non function to septic field, we installed new dual channel lines and beside his house installed French drain, then we had a company come in and repave his driveway. he was great to work with and I look forward to working with him in the future, thank you for letting us work on your project

Description of Work: Gibson's expertise was invaluable, but I was unable to use his services due to the fact of insurance company's questionable assessment of the damage to my home when a car ran into the exposed brick foundation. She called me after a drunk driver had slammed into her house and done severe damage to structure and collapsed part of foundation and done other damage thru out house. I met with her and I showed her damage thru the house in each area, there was more damage than what the adjuster found, one thing the did miss was the shockwave from impact moved part of the house, send shockwave into chimney cracked and shifted it as well as other joist and main structure, I did show her what I found so she could see first hand what adjuster missed and how damage was worse than thought. I wrote up a report as she also submitted her findings as well. when the approval came it was only going to cover 50% of cost to repair. I looked at other methods to reduce cost but the only way to do that was to cut so many corners that it would be a band aid fix and in I year time it would fail due to severe damage! I told her that with information and facts found on damage in good nature trying to do band aid fix would not solve issue and make it worse and it would fail and I will not do that to customers knowing this! I submitted more info to insurance company to try to help this customer but to no avail. I am afraid what repair will be done with another contractor who will cut corners to do this project on low amount will put her house at high risk of failure and not to mention part of house collapsing because of not having proper repairs, I really hate it for her and she expressed to me she hates the insurance company after 40 years of no claims is treating her like this but she has no choice. Members who read this I would have them to look at their insurance and go over every detail just in case something happens, this where is a rare case but it happens, I work with a lot of insurance companies on damage and it is rare they would do this due to liability but it does happen. I appreciate allowing me to come out and look over this project

This house that we worked on was really neat, it was built in the early 1800's. first thing we done was to level large living room, it had sunk over the years but we was able to re level it and shore it up to almost perfect level, it was a challenge due to age but we took our time and done lift and level in small amounts, once we finished this portion we moved to the outside where we installed French drains and regarded on the outside. After this was completed we installed a culvert in lower part of driveway and opened up the ditch line. everything turned out good and we enjoyed working on this cabin, thank you again and we look forward to working with you in the future

Description of Work: David Gibson graded our side yard and developed a patio area with stacked stone walls and a gravel/stone base. His plan included an additional garden area bordered by stacked stone. He placed stone steps from the patio to the gravel garden path. He further extended the gravel path to the bocce court and to the front of the house including a basement entry. His design complemented some older stone work on our 1924 farmhouse. David listened to our desires which caused some reworking of his initial plan, but the end result looks like it has always been a part of the house. The start of our work was delayed due to fall rains, and the project was completed in November and December 2015. David worked well with our stone mason who installed a wood burning oven. David extended the stacked stone work along the base of our oven and we have a uniquely beautiful oven presentation. David further worked on our basement water issue, installing water channels and installing a second sump pump to deal with our underground spring issues. This is the second time we have used Gibson's Grading and Construction. David's work demonstrates his attention to detail. This project allowed his artistic talents to be shown in the stacked stone walls, the stone steps, and the garden path.

We enjoyed working on this project and I enjoy doing rock work, they are they needed for a patio and cooking area was hilly and not very usable, we regarded area and built a tier with upper area for patio and cooking and lower area for a planter, we hand chinked every rock to give the look to fit the house and pizza over theme, it was a slow go but once we finished it was worth the wait. in the basement they had a spring pop up and when it rained even small amount it would flood one part of the basement so we added channels and installed a sump pump to get rid of the water. Me and dad really enjoyed working with them on their project, I am very happy to see them enjoying new patio area, thank you again and I look forward to our next project

She contacted us about a water issue in her basement with leaking and other issues, I was recommended to her thru her neighbor and other customers in the neighborhood where we do a lot of work and repair of foundations, I was not surprised when she told me what is going on because of the same homes in the area are having the same issues so I went out to meet her, after looking over the issues she was having same issues her neighbor had but worse and another customer above her had same issues we fixed 1 year ago. I went over every detail and area with her explaining the cause and issues of water intrusion. She did ask why so many house in the area was having same issues and I said when we fixed the issues I found that when houses was constructed that they used cheap and inferior methods which lead to major cost in the future! I gave her the cost to fix the issues and she told us she would like for us to do the work because of our high rating and her neighbor an other people in area are happy with high quality of work and service so. time went on I tried contacting her several times with no aval both thru phone and via email which I received no response. a few months went and she text me saying she was sorry it took so long to respond and she had the job done for $1800 less. I looked over the $1800 difference and concluded that for the scope of the project that cheap and and inferior methods was done in order to achieve lower price which would put her back in the same boat! At Gibson Construction we do our best to make sure price is fair but we do not cut corners or do inferior methods and put customers at risk, sometimes price is higher because we put more into a project with high quality of work ,materials and ensure the customer gets the best for their investment and will be long lasting which cost less in long run. I appreciate allowing us to bid on your project and if you have any other projects in the future we will be happy to help yo out

Description of Work: From the start, David was very communicative, courteous, and punctual. He came to our house and evaluated our driveway, which is on a slope and much of the gravel had been washed away. He clearly explained how he would remedy the situation and how much it would cost. Two weeks later, right on schedule, he regraded and laid down road bond and gravel. Additionally, he offered suggestions for long-term maintenance. We're extremely pleased with the results and are looking forward to years of a well-graded driveway as opposed to the mud hole that we're used to dealing with! We would not hesitate to use David for other drainage-related issues as they arise. We highly recommend him and are pleased that he is a locally owned and operated business.

The driveway had broken down over the years and across the street there is a lot of construction which was putting more water on the driveway thus causing issue to be worse, we went in and regarded and pitched driveway with small ditch so water will go into storm water drain, after we prepped driveway we hauled in and spread road bond really thick so it will be lasting. I am happy they are happy with the results, later this year we will be going back to install new culverts and I look forward to working with them again, thank you for allowing us to work on your project

He was having several issues regarding water intrusion and mold.In the basement the concrete block had mold due to water intrusion from the outside. in the upstairs mold had got into the carpet as well. First thing we done was to do mold remedial in basement as well as upstairs which included removing carpet. once remedial was complete we coated wall in basement with foundation coating. on the outside we installed French drains and new gutter downspout drains to divert all water away from house. When this phase was complete we repaired part of the sidewalk and entrance. The project went well even thou we had to deal with snow, and [member name removed] made it easy for us to work around his house. During this time of work he was away so each day I showed him pictures and gave reports. I am pleased to be able to highly recommend Gibson's Grading. I contacted the company for a free estimate to repair a basement leak. David Gibson returned my call promptly and came out to my home to check out the leak. He quickly diagnosed the problem and recommended a french drain. It so happened that the french drain would run underneath our front porch, which we have wanted to replace since we bought our house. David said he could also do the porch and quoted us $2,000 for both projects. I can tell you that it was money well spent. David spent three days on the two projects and his work is top notch. I felt comfortable asking him questions about how to install a flagstone sidewalk as a do-it-yourself project, and he gave me a lot of helpful tips. Our house needs other work done and I plan on calling on David.

I can already tell that the drainage system is working. The whole project went very well and all of the work was very high quality.
Description of Work: The bottom of our driveway was almost always damp/wet. He figured out that there was a spring nearby and designed an extensive drainage system to catch all gutter, runoff and ground water on the high side of the driveway. He also graded and extended our driveway at the other end, giving us more room to turn around.

the water that was coming out of the ground and going on his drive was a lot. This was creating a dangerous icy condition when the temp was at freezing.I found the location and it was a spring that had a lot of water coming out and causing the issue.we regraded the side of the drive and installed a french drain to divert water flow. David arrived promptly on the day scheduled for work. He had schuled a 3 day completion of project. He arrived early and completed each phase everyday . He competed the project in 3 days(He worked long hours and didnot ever stop for breaks. David went beyond the job description. He cleaned up completely, replanted the shrubbery, bought mulch and spread around the entire area. He repaired all the gutters around the house (they had pulled apart and we didn't know it.) He brought his chainsaw and removed a tree that had fallen on our shrubbery .
Description of Work: David Gibson owner of Gibson's Grading and Construction returned my call immediately when I notified him concerning our foundation problem. David came to our house , examined the problem, explained the situation and gave us a written estimate of cost and time completion of work. His expertize and knowledge of engineering provided us the necessary information for understanding the problem. Work order the following: Repair crack in the basement foundation. Excavate 5-6 feet in front of wall. Create three concrete buttresses in front of wall, attach to wall and ground. Put gravel over buttress for drainage. Waterproof foundation, installvapor barrier and foundation drain. Fill cracks in basement with hydro cement. Haul off debris.

The foundation needed attention pretty quickly. inside the basement wall there was 2 cracks and this was going to be a issue. One thing alarmed me was the fact that there was cracks when the cores was filled and everything was solid. I told the customer that i worked in the development 9-10 years ago when the houses was being built and all the foundations was above code even to todays standard. once we got started the rea was so wet and muddy it was putting huge pressure on the foundation. we sealed the cracks in the basement and built 3 piers and bolted them to foundation for extra support. we seal coated the foundation, installed new drain and compacted. The job went well, the first 2 days was cold, but it did not effect the job. I enjoyed working with her on her project and i will be going back the first part of February and paint the outside of her house and paint her kitchen.

David Gibson returned my call and came out the next day to look at what needed to be done. He was willing to look at and discuss different possibilities. The job was done over two days. He was always punctual and professional and kept me informed about the process. He cleaned up as he went along and took pride in his work, his tools and equipment. Even though the weather was cold, he had to kill two poisonous snakes that tried to strike him as he dug the drain. After David's work, the difference in the experience of being in that part of the basement was like night and day. For the first time it felt dry and the dehumidifiers were mostly quiet. He was a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Part of our basement is below a flagstone patio. It was damp inside and water often seeped in during torrential downpours. Dehumidifiers ran constantly and were emptied at least twice a day during the summer. David Gibson installed a six to eight foot French Drain around that side of the basement, sealed seams inside the basement, caulked under the patio sliding glass door and sealed the patio with tile sealants. A few days later, it rained heavily for 3 1/2 days resulting in a very small amount of leakage in that part of the basement. When I called David, he came over during a very heavy part of the downpour so that he could see what was happening. He said he would return to add more sealant and caulking, which he did when the weather dried out. While examining the water leakage, he could see that water was pouring down over a recently installed new window. He suggested that we get a gutter placed in that area so that the new window would not be destroyed and said he could refer us to someone who could take care of it.

I enjoyed working with this customer, i was very surprised when i was was digging out for the french drain i ran into 2 cooperhead snakes. they was mad and striking at me but i took care of them because it posed a danger to her. She was getting minor water leak in her basement, i found the location and installed a new drain system and went inside the basement and sealed the cracks. I look forward to working with her in the future.

David came out and assessed what needed to be done in order to fix the immediate problem of the fallen wall; in addition, he suggested regrading as a solution to carry the water away from the house. Building the new foundation was done by 2 members of David's crew, who were both extremely capable and experienced. The grading was done by David and his father -- again, both very capable and experienced in their work. David has a wonderful attitude and he takes his work very seriously. The work was done in a very timely and professional manner, and the jobsite was actually cleaner at the end of the job than at the beginning!
Description of Work: Two failing basement foundation walls were rebuilt with 8-in concrete blocks and rebar; the front area of the house behind the longer wall was graded and a ditch/gravel drain system was put in; gutters were cleaned and diversion hoses were attached.

I enjoyed working with Member on her project. When I meet with her to go over the scope of the project the foundation of her house inside the basement was not in good shape. The retaining wall was 4 inch block and was holding back the earth. But there was a major issue the main foundation and footer of the house was setting close to the retaining wall and was on the verge of collapsing. Thus would have caused the main frame of the house to shift and cause major frame damage to the house. We both talked about what needed to be done. Member was really concerned because of the time frame so I coordinated part of my crew to her job to address this. My crew installed 5/8 rebar then laid 8 inch block. Then once done they filled cores with high strength concrete with fiber mesh for increased strength. Once that part was completed me and my dad worked in the front. We found at one corner of the house where water had went under the footer of the house . We fixed that issue then installed a French drain around the front and one side of the house. The there was 2 exposed gutters so we attached pipe to the gutter down spouts and rerouted them away from house. Then the last part we regarded a small section of the front to divert any water shed away from house. This was a expensive job to do, but the foundation of the house was at a critical stage and we had to act quick and I had to use the best and strongest material. Member was understanding to this even thou I was not the lowest bid she got. But even thou I was not the lowest bidder we made sure to deliver the highest quality of work and highest quality of material and to quickly resolve her foundation problem before it reached critical mass. I wanted to make sure Member would never have to worry about her foundation giving her a issue again. I look forward to working with her in the future on her future projects

It went very well and I'm extremely pleased with the results. I got about 5 bids for the job and David's was the lowest. I'm sometimes nervous about taking the lowest bid but after David and I talked over the scope of the project, and what I needed to have done, I felt like he was the right guy to hire. David's crew was headed by Derek, who was very considerate and took the time to explain what the crew was doing and make sure it met my expectations for the job. Scott and Dave were the other two who worked on the house and they were all very nice guys. It took the guys a little over a week to complete the job and the results are excellent. My floors are level and feel very solid. I'm really glad I hired David and I feel like I got a great deal for the money.
Description of Work: My house was built on cinder blocks which were basically thrown under the house here and there to support it. Some of them had settled and others had cracked, leaving my house with uneven floors and cracked sheetrock. David's crew removed the old blocks, leveled the house and poured a series of concrete footings which supported two headers running the length of my house. In addition, they poured some new piers in the corners of the house to support settling and completed a masonry block wall along one side of my basement.

The job took longer than David estimated, in part because he originally thought the entire rear deck could just be re-planked, but when he started removing the floor planks, it became apparent that there half the rear deck needed total rebuilding. This and the extra foundation work did make our final price about $1000 higher than the original estimate, but it was well worth having quality work and resolution to the basement moisture issue. The only small complaint is that I'd asked for the decent quality 4x4 treated lumber "waste" to be left behind so that I could rebuild a flowerbed box and only four 3ft pieces were left when a lot more could have been salvaged, which i could have really used for the 5x12x3ft project. Though, I suspect it was just a misunderstanding since David's been really great about working with us for two fair-sized projects so far. I look forward to having him do more work in the future!!
Description of Work: David rebuilt the deck on the front of our house, closely matching the original, which had a built-in bench the length of the front sides. He also rebuilt half our back deck that had rotted beyond repair and re-planked the other half that was still structurally sound. He will return in October to stain the decks to give the wood a chance to dry/cure so that it will accept the stain better. While working on the front deck, he noticed a problem with the foundation under the deck where the cement was cracking and there was also a drainage issue. We had him do some foundation and drainage work earlier in the summer that resolved most of our problems, but this area had not been accessible earlier, so we took the opportunity of having the deck stripped away to address it. This plus some caulking around our furnace chimney seems to have done the trick and stopped the last of our basement leakage.

The reason it took longer is the fact i found major issues that needed to be resolved, plus i spent 2 hours in the morning running down material.then approx 6 hours on the jobsite. Some of the 4x4s wa really bad rotten and i di not think she wanted them. it was probley a misunderstanding. Even thou it took me longer to complete i wanted to make sure everything was correct and up to code. I do my best to make sure i fit all my client's budget, the extra cost to do this project covered the extra materials. i enjoy working with vanessa and ronnie, it is a real pleasure to work with them on projects

We are very, very pleased not only with the affordability of Gibson Grading and Construction's services but also with the quality of the work and David Gibson's attentiveness, promptness, and flexibility at handling the unavoidable unknowns that tend to come up when working on an older home such as ours. You could not go wrong hiring him!!!
Description of Work: David Gibson gave us a free estimate in early May for foundation repair and grading/drainage work to resolve issues of water getting into our basement. He came to assess our needs the day after my first contact and provided a written estimate within two days of his visit. He kept in contact via email and phone to answer any questions and then to arrange the work schedule. From the beginning and throughout the work process, he was very professional, punctual, and responsive. We obtained three estimates before choosing Gibson, and Gibson was by far the most affordable, in large measure because he took the time to understand our needs and expectations and did not try to sell us on work that went beyond this. And, when we did ask for additional work to be done, he seamlessly added those tasks into the existing schedule. In all, our project took 6.5 days with Gibson and an employee doing the work. First the bathroom floor and sub-floor was replaced due to a plumbing leak which had rotted the sub-floor and destroyed the floor treatment. Then, they rebuilt two footers that had been undercut, removed a partition between the finished basement and the crawl space that was close to falling down on its own and replaced it with a half-wall of concrete block. David re-set a support beam that had shifted, added supports in several other areas that were unstable, and even secured a lot of the plumbing that was not sufficiently braced along the basement ceiling. He brought his excavator to dig trenches on both sides and behind the house, where he installed a french drain that connects to our gutters. He noticed another area under the porch from which he suspected some of our basement water issues might be coming from and added that to the drainage work with no additional charge. The debris from all of these projects was cleaned up thoroughly and promptly. The only piece of our project left is the floor molding in the bathroom. The former floor treatment was ceramic tile and the new covering is a vinyl laminate, so there is a bit more of a gap between the floor and wall than the original molding would cover. David is custom-making new molding that he will install tomorrow.

Great! You can read the details above.
Description of Work: We bought a 97-year-old house with an unstable garage foundation. David Gibson recommended a solution to the problem that was not only affordable but better suited to our needs. He removed concrete blocks that were not supporting the garage, replaced them with 6x6 supports, patched holes in the rest of the foundation, and installed drains on both sides of the garage to prevent any further water erosion. Just before he began this project, I noticed that the basement of the house was leaking after rainstorms. He quickly came out to assess the situation, and he, again, provided an effective and affordable solution (regrading and installing drains along the sides of the house). David worked quickly and even saved some plants along the sides of the house that I was worried would have to be removed during the project. Halfway through his work, my husband and I decided we wanted to add a parking area behind the house, directly on top of the area where the two drain systems were to meet. David didn't hesitate to add this job to his project, and he offered us a great price. Additionally, at no extra charge, David offered to use his equipment to dig post holes for us, since we were building a fence. What a lifesaver! I highly recommend David to anyone! He is honest, professional, and committed to quality.
