Well... as stated above it went pretty well! We need flooring FAST b/c the tile guy was at our house.. and when he pulled the quarter round off, we realized that when they redid the plumbing before we bought the house many yrs ago, that the drywall didn't line up w/ the floor leaving a 3/4" gap! So I was running all over trying to find a tile that could go on the floor (evidently not all tile is 'equal' and can't be put anywhere so I learned hahha ;-).. Also needed one that we wouldn't slip on, would match up w/ our 1920s original hex tile that we were planning on keeping but now had to cover, and last was also affordable as we weren't expecting that additional expense. I went to MANY places... I happened to be passing by AFC and stopped on whim. And I'm so glad I did!
"The tile this couple selected was not readily available and had to be ordered from out-of-state locations. American Floorcraft is not a manufacturer, so we are at the mercy of the manufacturer to supply the material. Delays in the supply chain are not our fault and we have no control over them. If they were not impressed with the salesperson, why did they do business with him? If you read the other review, it seems they did like the salesperson. Actually, the salesperson made several trips to the couples' new home, to do measurements as well as design consultation. Then the couple decided that they would only purchase the materials and do the installation themselves. He also delivered all the tile at no charge on the company van."
Once the tiles were ordered it took an excessive amount of time to recieve the tiles, with many un-returned calls chasing confirmation on delivery.
As I was awaiting for a couple of sheets of glass tiles to arrive, the owner kept trying to pass me the sample that was originally provided to design the bathroom and repeatedly told me that the company had sent this the day before (I can tell it was a sample because of the coffee ring stain that was present from sitting on his desk).
After the initial sales was completed, follow-up support melted away, full of empty promises. At one point I was visiting the store every evening chasing down the tiles.
A misunderstanding on what a pencil tile was, even after an e-mail was sent with links and pictures to a competitors example, added further delays and some rather uncomfortable conversations discussing the return policy (even though I had not accepted what was offered) and the excessive price difference between what was requrested by e-mail and what was offered. I eventually went to a compititor who had the tile in stock, offered no questions asked return policy and was an excellent price.
When I needed some additional tiles to finish the job, I found that the tile manufacturer had a warehouse site in St Louis and went through another distributor to order the tile collected myself, saving myself time (delivery was in days), money and stress
"This was a very involved job, requiring multiple trades, including carpenters, plumbers and electricians, as well as our installation crew. The amount of work that these trades had to perform was so small that it was difficult to schedule; as a result, scheduling became an issue, and slowed down the overall project. Normally, we would not emploly these different trades, but this homeowner asked us to take on these additional tasks. In addition, changes were made during the project that effected the timeline. We understand her frustration with the time it took, but the job was very complex and involved. The customer indicated that she was very happy with the quality, aesthetics, and workmanship when she paid her bill."
