We contracted with Alpha to install 2 sets of fences on 2 new homes we had built in the city and did not have a favorable experience with the company. We ordered non-dog eared planks for the fence and on the day of the install they only had dog eared and said it could be a while before they could get the right materials.... They were already late and behind schedule because they had put up fence without the inspector viewing the holes that were dug for the posts -- they had to tear down a newly constructed portion of the fence, re-dig holes, and wait for the inspector to see it. This added weeks to our project and we had to settle for materials we did not want. Our general contractor asked them to make it right some way and nothing was offered or done -- we paid the original price of the project. The finished fence is nice, but it is not what we ordered and they cost us money on our project because of all the delays.

Despite mixed AngiesList reviews, I wasn't thrilled with my other 2 estimates, and when a friend recommended Alpha, I decided to give it a shot. My contact person, Steve, returned my calls promptly and was helpful. The estimate was free. With three quotes from different companies, I decided to go with Alpha because it was the only company to give me an invoice that broke down the cost of the project (how much per post, etc). Their price was also the best. My only gripe would be a lack of communication- there was no scheduling of days to complete the project. I was only told that they were about 2 weeks out. When I called to inquire, the receptionist (who was incredibly helpful) told me that I could request a day-before notification of when they would begin work. I actually got a call at 7:30 the morning of. Aside from this, the fence looks great, it was fast, and the workers were professional. Overall, I am happy with Alpha...my dog is pretty pleased, too.
Description of Work: Fenced-in back yard with chainlink fencing. Yard was already partially fenced, so completion of job included about 100 feet (one long side and two little sections to attach it to the house and add a gate).

Alpha Fence has not completed the work as of this report. This report will be updated if and when they show up to complete. Alpha Fence was contacted, via Angie's List, to provide an estimate for services. They installed our privacy fence previously but left a mess and had to come back to fix the gate, screw in bolts that were left hanging out, etc. However, their rating seemed to have improved so we gave them a second chance. The estimator, Sam Rush, did reply within 48 hours and set an appointment. He was on time and provided an estimate 48 hours after the site visit. While Chesterfield Fence was quicker in responding, coming on site, and providing an on-site estimate, their initial price was $6,000 (later adjusted to $4200), The next part gets a little complicated and we should have known things would get bad. After receiving the estimate, I followed up with a series of calls and added another remote and keypad as well as removing parts of the old fence that Sam had forgotten to include. Alpha didn't want to redo the estimate and told me to just hand write it on the contract. I reestimated the final cost myself and provided them with 1/3 down ($1200) on March 24. This was the last I ever heard from them. A month later I called and left messages for Sam but Julie returned my call. She informed me that the installers would be out near the end of the week (this was on Monday). Two weeks later, and with no advanced notification, the installers showed up in put in the posts. Strangely, I had just called Alpha Fence wondering if they were coming out. The poles were installed on Monday with the expectation they would return in one or two days. On Thursday I called again to find out if anyone was coming and was told by Julie that she would call me back by the the afternoon with a return date. A few hours later a neighbor called me at work to inform me they were back and working again - still no notification. The site installer, Gary Moore, calls me at 12:40 to infom me that he after welding the hinges, he realized they were the wrong type and had to remove them. Since he was going to take Friday off as he hadn't had a day off all year (it was a really long voice mail) he wouldn't be back until Monday so we would have to wait. I don't know why with more than 1/2 a day left he couldn't keep working. I called the main office and was told, "sorry, these things happen but we will be there on Monday". It will be interesting to see if they show up since I will be out of town on Monday and thereby have no way to get the remotes or knowing the pass code. Of course, Alpha Fence never once asked if it would be convenient for me. I have been left to wait, initiate my own calls, see work half finished, clean my own driveway, and see my garden plants crushed when they took the dirt from the post holes and dumped it on my new plants. The gate cost was $3600, the other $600 was for other contractors such as the electrical.
Description of Work: Alpha fence was engaged to build a security gate at the entrance to our driveway. This was to be a remote operated, electric powered gate.

The estimates were accurate and the work was performed within three days of the scheduled date due to rain. However, the installers never asked us to review the work before leaving and the company had to send someone out twice to repair shoddy work. This included gate hinges and latches there were not bolted in, piles of concrete that was left on site, and two boards that were poorly cut but installed anyway.
Description of Work: Estimated and installed new fence in backyard of home. Design included two 6' tall gates.

Wonderful! Sales Representative Sam, was very helpful and helped pick the right fence for the backyard and not something that would require more maintenance. Received many compliments from neighbors.

It took around 4 weeks between estimate time and time the work began. Materials being ordered, etc. One day they poured the concrete for the posts and the next day the job was completed as promised. I was not home during any of the operation, but the work appeared to be high quality.
Description of Work: Company removed existing broken, non-power gate to carport. Installed one electric cantilever gate. Six ft. tall gate. Gate was approximately 14 feet wide. Installed gate operator with photo eye, 2 remotes, 1 keyless entry pad. They ran electric from the garage to the operator. Company also replaced two posts from surrounding wood fence that had been damaged in a previous storm.

FIRST OF ALL, THEY INSTALLED THE FENCE INCORRECTLY AND HAD TO COME BACK OUT AND REINSTALL IT. THEN, THEY HAD NO RESPECT FOR ANY PART OF MY HOUSE. IT WAS REALLY NOT OUT OF DETAIL.
