This was a very bad experience with a very bad product with a company (Kenny King at The Top Shop & Cabinet Company) that I would highly recommend everyone avoid. In April 2008, a sample cabinet door was taken from our kitchen to The Top Shop & Cabinet Company. It was eventually returned to us and we expected the cabinets shortly thereafter. It was taken back in May and July. We finally received the cabinets in August and they were installed the same day. After installation, it became apparent to me that the doors were incorrect; they didn't have the raised panel on them. I then noticed that the drawers didn't slide out as requested nor were the cd/dvd racks installed. As I continued to inspect the finish of the cabinets, I realized that they simply weren't finished well. I asked a neighbor who owns a cabinet company to come down and view them and he told me they were missing a top coat. I then paid to have the doors refinished. The gentleman that refinished the doors took over 2 weeks to refinish them as he stripped them to bare wood, sanded them, stained them, sanded them again, and then finished with 7 top coats (or of furniture quality, which is what we expected initially). Upon seeing the results of the doors, we then decided to pay to refinish the remainder of the cabinets. The final quality and finish of the cabinets and doors is significantly improved since we paid to have them refinished. The product that came out of Kenny King's shop should have never been allowed to leave the doors of his company.
Description of Work: In April 2008, I purchased custom cabinetry through a contractor from Kenny King at The Top Shop & Cabinet Company to install in the great room of my home. The cabinets were to be installed on either side of an existing fireplace with custom granite countertops. Additionally, there were supposed to be 3 doors with raised panels on each side with sliding shelves and cd/dvd racks. After installation, and upon further inspection, I found that the cabinets were very poorly constructed and finished. In fact, I've ended up spending an additional $800 to have a professional refinish the cabinets and doors. I decided to call Kenny directly to speak with him about the cabinets. After leaving 3 messages, I was fortunate to finally reach him directly. In short, he told me that I shouldn't have called him, called me several names, and threatened to have his lawyer contact me. Upon realizing that Kenny wasn't going to fix the quality of his product, I contracted with a professional to refinish the doors and the cabinets. He basically started over on the doors and stripped them down to bare wood and then refinished them. The body of the cabinets were already in the house, so he could only refinish them with a top coat after shaving off several blemishes and runs. Additionally, he had to repair the front kick plate on the cabinets, which was delivered and installed broken. The problems that we found with the cabinets were: -> Broken front kick plate on the left side cabinets (required removal, glueing, insertion of new pocket screws, and refinishing) -> Several blemishes on the cabinet sides -> Runs and overspraying in the finish -> Several spots that simply were not stained -> Scratches and uneven finish. ->
