Tony LaMartina Plumbing Company is a residential plumbing company with an established reputation of providing superior plumbing services to St. Louis homes for over 40 years. We are committed to delivering the highest quality plumbing services to our customers. Our commitment requires us to be the best in our industry at using our superior mechanical skills to solve our customer’s problems, resulting in a highly responsive and satisfying service experience.
The work was scheduled for first thing on a Monday morning, and the repairman was there right on time. I live on a busy street, where parking is difficult, so he had to make a couple of trips to his truck to get everything, which he did cheerfully. The work was done quickly and efficiently, with absolutely no cleanup required on my part. I would definitely use this company again. A word of caution on costs: I was not provided an estimate in advance, but I didn't ask for one either. You should ask, because this wonderful service does not come inexpensively. The bill was emailed to me, which I found very convenient, and I was able to pay online. Great service.
Description of Work: The kitchen garbage disposal needed to be replaced, because it had worn out. Also, a toilet was running water intermittently and the flush handle had to be held down with each flush.

He was efficient and practical and worked very well with my other contractor. They were not cheap, but did such a good, clean job, I am using them again. Everything was done correctly the first time, he showed up on time and left the jobsite very clean. A big plus with this company is that the plumber shows up with a very large truck stocked with the large tools and typical parts needed so that the job was not interrupted to get tools or parts often needed for repairs. Every aspect of dealing with the company was pleasant and professional.
Description of Work: This company sent a very professional and proficient plumber to respond to a broken pipe and to do the rough in for a kitchen remodel. Later on he came back for the finish plumbing in the kitchen, two baths and a half bath, where new vanities had to be connected (faucets and sink drains) and new toilets installed.

When I called Tony, the owner of Tony LaMartina Plumbing, and asked him my myriad of questions (I am very thorough), he answered all of my questions politely, professionally, knowledgeably, and patiently. Initially, I was interested in a certain brand of hot water heater, which was higher-priced than some of the others, but, Tony explained to me that a "hot water heater is, pretty much, a hot water heater," and that there isn't a whole lot of difference between them. I was very grateful for his honesty , as he could have capitalized on this by selling me something more expensive that wasn't, necessarily, any better (i.e.: sell me something I didn't need). Additionally, when I questioned him about the necessity of getting a permit (from the county) in order to do the work, he explained that, yes, one was needed. When I had called the other plumbing companies and had asked them the same question, however, some of them told me that a permit wasn't necessary. Now, I will tell you a secret.... I knew, beforehand, that a permit was required (which, of course, then, requires a county inspector to come out and inspect the plumber's work) because I had gone to St. Louis County's website to verify this. I, often, do this when having work done in my home because the answer to this question tells me a lot about the owner/company. Specifically, when the owner gives you an honest answer, you know you are dealing with an individual/company with integrity who/that: a.) isn't trying to evade the proper authorities (by not getting a permit), b.) has confidence in the quality of his work because he's not afraid to have an inspector inspect his work, and c.) is keeping the customer's best interests in mind. During my phone call with Tony, he, also, offered to come out the very next day (which he did) to take a look at our then-current hot water heater to assess the situation. Talk about responsive! After leaving our home that day, I requested additional information on the hot water heaters about which we spoke, and he sent the information, promptly, through e-mail. Then, he continued to answer my additional questions about this information as I began to narrow down my choices. I ended up choosing a 75-gallon hot water tank (instead of the standard 40-or 50- gallon tank), and I have been very pleased. We have had no problems since its installation, and it provides us with ample hot water (and I have three children, one of whom takes 45-minute showers...no joke!) As a final note, I will say that, after having used Tony's company for this job, I hired his company for another, smaller, job in my home, with which I am pleased, and with which he gave me the same time and attention in answering my questions.
Description of Work: We needed a new hot water heater, as our then-current tank was leaking (and it was about at the end of its life span...16 years old). I called a number of companies, one of which was Tony LaMartina's Plumbing, to discuss the types/brands of hot water heaters available and to get an approximate cost to replace ours with a new one. I ended up using Tony's company for the job due to his professionalism in dealing with me, as a potential customer, his courtesy and patience in answering my many questions, his knowledge of the product and the brands available, his responsiveness, and his follow-up to my requests (see, "Comments," for more details).

The company was very responsive in getting to the house to perform the services, and because I was not home, but my housekeeper was, was accomodatiing to working through her. They completed the work, other than having to order parts, and did a nice job. When the parts came in, the finished the job.

Very expertly and efficiently. I've used Tony Lamartina before, and will always call them if I have plumbing problems. They are the best.
Description of Work: The drains in the laundry room and shower were backing up. I didn't expect anyone to come out right away, but he did! Charlie and his assistant tested the drains inside the house, and established that the problem was in the sewer pipe on the lawn. They cleaned it out and tested everything inside. Everything was fixed very quickly. Charlie also gave me advice on using enzyme drain cleaners, which I appreciated.

Tony's partner, Jim, arrived at the tail-end of the two-hour window but went promptly to work. After cutting copper to make room for his wrench to remove the di-electric fitting for the cold-water feed at the top of the tank, he persisted putting all his weight into it until it finally came free. There is no way I had industrial plumbing-sized wrenches to do this job. Remnants of the old dip tube were extracted, less than 3" left, and the new tube was cut to length and inserted in its place. A new di-electric fitting was installed. The copper was cut back in and all couplings sweated. The unit was then flushed several times--and the faucet cartridge for hot water to the bathroom sink that was clogged, was blown clear of bits of plastic--with aerator cleared and reattached. The job took about an hour, with minimum materials since I had ordered the dip tube myself. And though I offered to pay with a check, I signed for the work and was e-mailed an invoice the next day. Total cost with an Angie's List coupon (saving 15% parts, $10 off the service call) and one hour labor was $135. Overall, I was very satisfied with Jim's thorough attention to professional-grade repair, every step of the way. To members, I would recommend the process of shopping plumbers, since there are those that will work with you, and those--even though they may be highly rated--that will be looking to up-charge for a full-ticket installation.
Description of Work: After researching my water heater's problems, I learned that, for perhaps the last 10 years, it's had a defective polypropylene dip tube which has steadily deteriorated with bits of plastic clogging hot-water flow to new kitchen and bath faucets. Also, since it had broken off at the top, it was spilling cold water directly into the top of the unit, causing loss of hot water in the shower after 5 minutes. Ordered a replacement PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) dip tube, then contacted a half-dozen top-rated plumbers from Angie's List. As the serial number on the water heater showed that it was manufactured in 1994, (defective models made between 1993-1997) most plumbers advised replacing the entire unit since it was well beyond the usual 10-year life, even though there were no other problems. A new unit would cost about $1,700 versus only $100-$200 to simply replace the tube. Only a few plumbers estimated the job for repair agreeing to extend the use of the unit. One of these was Tony. After contacting him late in the week, and telling him that I'd ordered the part, he agreed to send someone within a two-hour window the following Monday.

The plumber did something lovely, that not all workmen bother to do. He gave me the exact time he would be there, and when he was delayed, he telephoned, told me of the delay, apologized, and said when he would be there. When he arrived, he unclogged the sink,.explaining what happened, and telling me that potato peels are really difficult for disposals. Good to know. I recommended Tony to my neighbor, who had a problem and needed someone who would come at the last moment. She and her husband liked him so much they had him remodel the three bathrooms in their hous.
Description of Work: I have used Tony LaMartina for many years and have always found his service competent, pleasant, and reliable. This last time, my garbage disposal clogged and the kitchen sinks backed up. The plumber cleared the clog and while he was there, fixed a slightly clogged faucet that he noticed.

They were courteous, timely and they got the job done in a hurry. They did a good job. They were clean, the workmen identified themselves and they were respectable type of people. There weren't any problems. I would recommend them to others, they did a great job and I would certainly call them again if I had a problem. I don't think it was an outrageous price, but we haven't had a plumber in years.

The toilet seemed to be leaking over the Christmas break. On closer inspection, the tank had fallen away from the wall, kinking some of the joints. Turning off the water prevented damage, but it definitely needed immediate attention. Also, the toilet in our other bathroom seemed blocked. My husband called LaMartina on Tuesday afternoon, 12/28, and a plumber came on Wednesday and recommended a new toilet, plus the rotorooter guy (who I think came the same day and resolved that issue). The plumber removed the toilet on Wednesday, leaving the bathroom tidy and the open stack neatly blocked off. We bought a new toilet on Thursday morning and it was installed that afternoon. The plumber was on time, courteous, tidy, and gave good advice. The work was well done and for a reasonable price--approximately $270 for the plumber, and almost $400 for the toilet. The Angie's List discounts (on the service call, the plumber's labor, and the toilet) more than paid for the annual Angie's List subscription. We are extremely happy with the way LaMartina responded to our call, and how they handled the work during a holiday period. And now we have a new toilet that is quick and quiet and seems to use less water, and is also an upgrade to the slightly higher seat with an elongated bowl. Removal of our old toilet also resolved a handled that needed a jiggle and eliminated an innocuous but unsightly crack in the toilet.
Description of Work: Removal of 80-year old toilet and installation of new toilet. Also, inspection of other toilet that seemed to have a blockage problem. A separate contractor came and cleaned out the second toilet (separate cost of $120).

It went very well. I called Tony and left a message regarding what I was hoping to accomplish. He got back to me later that evening and setup a date to come look at things. Mike came out and took a look at what needed to be done and got right to work on the gas line shutoff value. He even helped me remove my old wall oven from the wall. Afterwards, he wasted no time when it came to fixing the other leaky valves, and was quick and efficient at installing shutoff values under the sink. All and all, it probably took a couple hours. My only problem was that the charges on the bill were in a different font due to computer/printer issues I believe and was unreadable, but I called Tony and he emailed me a full copy that same day.
Description of Work: I had recently bought a foreclosure and the city required a lot of things to be done before I could get an occupancy permit. One was that I needed to raise a gas shutoff valve up about a foot from its current location. The other things were miscellaneous water issues (ie, leaky faucets, broken water valves, bathroom installation of shutoff valves). These were things that I could do a few myself, but since I needed a specialist for the gas, it was nice to get someone who could take care of all of these issues

Happy with entire process. Mr La Martina came out to my house to see the old preventer device and answered all my questions.
