I believe you have somewhat confused us with another company because we only spoke once and I am the only office person here. When you contacted me (Donna) on Friday, you stated that you were surprised I answered the phone because you called several other companies before us and no one was answering. We only spoke one time. When I arrived to the office on Tue., after the holiday weekend, I was informed that we do not service your area. I called you immediately and apologized for my mistake. I truly am sorry for this, but it was an honest mistake. I don't think an F rating is deserved here.

John came out for an estimate the day after my initial email. The estimate he gave was good. He was scheduled to come out a couple days later, but due to the week long rain, he had to move the date to the weekend. I was surprised that him and his crew would come out on the weekend, but they did both days, and right on time. The project was mostly completed the first day in a couple of hours. The next couple of days, John came out to finish up the spackling after it had dried overnight. He was always on time. The guys did a great job and were fast, but thorough. I will definitely call on them again next time I have a project.
Description of Work: Put in a passthrough in the wall between my kitchen and living room by removing studs, framing, adding new drywall, and spackling. The wall was a supporting wall, which is why I needed help with this project. The passthrough is about 8' x 4'.

Their price was really good and they did what exactly I wanted. They were fast and their quality was very good. They were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and really good at communicating. They knew their job and I don't have any complaints. I will grade them high across all categories.

Fast and responsive. Workers were on time and scheduling was flexible in order to meet a tight schedule. Was very helpful in providing guidance on how best to do certain aspects of the project. Worked with me to stay within budget. Was friendly to deal with.
Description of Work: Install insulation, drywall, mud and tape, sand finish and paint ceiling in kitchen and dining room.
J. was very persistent about his starting time with little to no regard for our schedules unless I told him we wouldn't be there to let him in the house. J. argued that I was asking for too many lights in the room both before and after the contract was signed, and I finally had to have my husband talk to him and actually show him the contract that states "9 can lights. They argued, but J. finally agreed to 9 lights. He told me I would regret so many lights and would soon be asking him to return to install dimmer switches, which he installed the last day or so of the job and which I did not ask for or want. He also argued for so long about putting "eyeball" fronts on all the can lights that I finally gave up and agreed to have them on only a few of the lights and regular fronts on the rest. When the day came to put on the fronts, J. had brought the wrong size regular fronts and had to install all eyeball fronts anyway. We had decided to put a new single switch on each of 2 walls. After the dry wall was put up and the switches installed I walked into the room to find both swtiches in a double switch box on one wall. J. told me HE'D decided to put them both on the one wall. I was home the whole time; he could have informed me if there was a problem, but chose not to tell me of HIS decision until it was too late to put the switches in the orginal spots. He also did not accept my wish to make the mantle the length I wanted it, but instead just informed me he would make it longer. He did not ask me the height I wanted it, and it is too high. I am stuck with both of these problems. He was argumentative to me whenever I tried to explain that I wanted something different than what he had in mind, so much so that my husband had to take off 2 days of work to deal with him because I refused to talk to him about business anymore. He left one day without even telling me he was going, and left one crew member there to work alone. When I asked if he was going to finish by himself, he replied no, that J. would return the next day. When I said I wouldn't be home that day, he didn't know when the work would be finished. It was at that time that my husband saw that the ceiling fan had the light fixture attached even though we'd ask that it be left off and the cap be put on instead. We also saw that 2 pieces of ceiling trims, one light and one dark as sometime just happens with wood stain, were butted together in the center of the ceiling most visable as one walks into the room instead of being put on an end or side of the room. There was also chunks of stain missing from the closet door trim that had been there the night before they were installed. When my husband brought it to his atttention, J. said he didn't know what happened and it didn't matter anyway because it was in the inside of the closet. It matters to us and will be restained. Clean up was not done properly. Only the largest things were removed like the old dry wall etc. My husband and I swept and picked up debris several times after the crew left, and now that it's all over, we're left with cleaning the dry wall and tape putty dust off of the 2 brick walls. When the trim was ordered, J. didn't order the right amount and some of the wood was delivered chipped and mishappened and poorly matched, so that my husband finally had to make a couple of trips to the the lumber yard to pick up and pick out the wood himself. J. was always on time when he came, and he always came when he said he would, but sometimes we didn't know that he and his crew had left and so sometimes, but not always, we had to contact him again to find out when he would be out to work again. In fairness I should also add that my husbandand I stained the wood which took much longer than we thought it would, especially since we had to major family events that happened while we were trying to complete the staining job. So the job took 6 months from start to finish and J. waited without complaint for us to finish the staining. Sometimes not having the wood or the right wood slowed down the staining, too. And, we are not complaining about the length of time to complete the project.
Description of Work: Removed 2closet doors, wall paneling, ceiling tile, 2 built-in shelving units, old lights, A/C unit. Installed and built 3 shelving units, fireplace mantle. Installed floor and ceiling trim, ceiling fan, drywall on walls and ceiling including skylight, 2 closet doors, 9 can lights, 8 switches.

Wow ,what a way to top off one of the worst experiences I've had since I've been a contractor. Where some people appreciate my input and past experiences others apparently do not. I knew I was in trouble when I was asked to make a special trip out there to the job and explain why I was trying to cheat them by not installing the correct drywall, when I got there the homeowner had removed a piece of drywall and was showing me that when he measured the edge it was only 3/8 thick instead of the 1/2 thickness that was on the bid. I explained to him that he was measuring the beveled edge and showed him that when measuring the proper way it was clearly correct.I then reinstalled the piece without charging him for the wasted trip or the work.(he did not then or ever apologize for his mistake) I am sorry that this project became such a nightmare for all involved, especially my workers that had to be coaxed back to finish the work after six months of waiting for the homeowners to paint and stain(which any other contractor would have charged them extra for.) I'm going to stop here and say I'm just glad this job is over. I'm not going to work on any more projects for this couple, and I'm going to try and learn something from this, please read the other 99% of reports before making your decision on my company.

We found JNM carpentry on Angie?s list by reading through the recent reports on home remodeling. We also got bids from two others recommended by friends. JNM?s bid was better than the others were. He included much more detail and was at a much lower price, almost half of the high bid. Jon was helpful in explaining to us what would work and things we should avoid. He has 25 years experience doing this and it shows. Once we agreed on a start date, the action began, Jon brought in five guys and jack hammered the floor and had the framing up in few days. We then realized we forgot to specify how to deal with an existing plumbing stack, we forgot about duct work, and we forgot about smoke detectors. No problem, Jon had already factored that in his bid. In order to meet code, they even installed smoke detectors in the rest of our house. Construction creates a lot of dirt and debris, and even though we would not allow them to bring in a dumpster, they hauled away everything with no impact to the rest of our house. Sub contractors, which were also very professional, did the final painting and carpet. Jon also added nice extras that we did not expect, such as dimmer switches and the correct type of light bulbs, he moved all of the wiring connections in the ceiling from the finished section to the unfinished section, and installed the light fixtures we bought from Home Depot. Overall, except for all of the construction noise, it was a great experience to work with JNM Carpentry.
Description of Work: Finished approximately 1000 sq. ft. of basement including half bath and wet bar. Framing, drywall, plumbing, electrical, finish work, painting, and carpet -see the photos.

It went very well, no complaints.
Description of Work: JNM Carpentry came in and measured up a wall for some custom cabinets. Very concise and to the point, very good pricing and very understanding when it came to our wants and needs. Told us it would be about 5-7 weeks for the cabinets to arrive. The cabinets were here in about 6 weeks, and JNM came in on a Saturday and had these cabinets installed in less than 8 hours. I have used JNM Carpentry in the past and have never been "let down".

We originally planned to gut the bathroom and Jon gave us a very fair estimate of about $10,000. Unfortunately, our plans changed but we were able to give the bathroom a fresh look with a gorgeous new countertop and sink. Jon also fixed the cabinet doors without being asked. He was always very professional and did a great job. I wouldn't hesitate to call on him again.

Jon, a consummate professional, stopped by to discuss a project idea we had involving kitchen remodeling and possibly an addition to the house. Though we don't really know what we want yet, Jon spent over an hour discussing several ideas, how they would fit with the existing structure, and some great ideas on how to spend less $$. Jon is a laid back, no pressure guy and provided some excellent info to get us started.
Description of Work: Came by to provide a rough estimate of a kitchen remodel and possible addition.
We've hired Mr. John before. He gives the total estimate and we work within the cost choices. Examples: Mr. John bid the tile at a cost per square foot. We chose tile in that price range. We upgraded the cabinets but chose to do the painting/ staining ourselves. Mr. John's choices of (contract included) faucets, shower fixtures and glass shower doors were gorgeous. The job took 3 months. It was excruciating because everything came and went through the kitchen. It may have been completed faster but we had winter holidays and material supplier mistakes to contend with. Mr. John has a grand talent for employing the best craftsmen/sub contractors. We felt very comfortable in asking for their suggestions. The tile work around our shower mural is artistry. The floor tile was laid in a pattern we hadn't considered. The new plumbing underneath, in the basement, is elegant spider webs of copper. The trim is precise. The drywall finishing is perfection. The edges on the glass shower doors are ground to prisms. The framing included more than Mr. John had bargained for. Extra framing on the outer walls, extra cribbing underneath to avoid future sagging. At any point, Mr. John and his men were willing to accommodate my ideas. Mr. John employs all American citizen craftsmen and local sub contractors. They are all unfailingly cheerful, helpful, responsive, efficient and talented. Even the helper who carried and swept was a delight to work with.
Description of Work: We had a walk in closet, wide hall and bathroom completely gutted. The space was reconfigured into a new bathroom and laundry room. The laundry room was moved from the basement to the main floor and the old bathroom was shifted to a new position. This job entailed the removal of walls, ceilings and floors. The outer walls and ceilings required new framing and insulation as well as new dividing walls. All new plumbing from the water heater to the fixtures, from the drains to an extended soil pipe. All new electric wiring. New ceramic tile floor with new sub-floor in both rooms. Ceramic tile walk in shower with a bench and sliding glass doors. Sink, shower pan, bench, and a window sill are matching cultured marble. A linen tower and large vanity for the bathroom. One new double hung replacement window. Wall and floor cabinets in the laundry, laminate counter top. All cabinets are solid wood. A small closet with French doors. All new doors are solid wood, 4 panel. The house is 115 yrs old, the work was done in a 65 yr. old addition. All the window, door and floor trim was made to match the original in the old part of the house, including bull's eyes. Above the contract, we supplied 4 light fixtures and a ceiling fan. The medicine cabinet. A flush mounted ironing board cabinet. A 28"x40" tile mural for the shower stall. All installed by Mr. John under the contract. We did all the painting/staining.

John gave me the lowest of 3 bids (in ascending order: 12,500; 16,000; and 24,000) and I was nervous to go with such a low offer, thinking the quality would be lacking. I have not been disappointed -- the attention to detail was exceptional, he was very responsive and went above what I expected of him. He worked quickly and kept me well apprised of the status of the job, who was coming, and when they would be there. Exceptional value and quality.

It exceeded our expectations. The bid for the work was lower than three other bids we received for the job. Even with that, the quality of the cabinets we ordered was better than the other bids. John did a great job. His crew was very prompt, courteous, and great to work with. I would highly recommend him to do work on anyone home.
We wanted to hire a single contractor who would be able to provide all types of service - carpentry, electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc. We interviewed six contractors, all from Angie's List, and received five proposals. Not only was Jon Mittler, owner of JNM Carpentry, the most knowledgeable about the work we were requesting, we also believed that Jon would be the most reliable and trustworthy. We were impressed by how quickly Jon submitted his well-prepared, professional, and reasonably priced proposal. We also appreciated Jon's accessibility, since most days he was working with his crew, or when we needed to contact him by phone. In addition, both the starting and completion dates were within the time frame that Jon had promised. Overall, the project exceeded our expectations and we are thrilled with the final result!
Description of Work: Remodeled a finished basement and full bathroom, which included removal of existing drywall, ceiling tiles, and gutting of entire bathroom, and installation of framing, insulation, drywall on walls and ceiling, base trim, six-panel doors, all painting, canned lighting and bringing electric up to code, marble shower, shower valve, shower doors, toilet, pedestal sink, faucet, light fixture, ceramic tile in bath, and carpeting on stairs and floor.

I got five quotes on this job and theirs was the cheapest by $10,000. Jon is the man. They were efficient and helpful from beginning to end. Jon was patient with us and accepted to make a number of changes to the original project. Along the way, Jon suggested a number of improvements to the project (most of which were cost-free), none of which I would have thought about, and all of which were helpful and appreciated. There were a few glitches along the way (not always their fault), as there typically are in this kind of job, but they fixed everything (including things that were not their fault) to our full satisfaction. The finished product is of high quality. And to think that with any of the other contractors who bid on this job, I would have spent at least 10 grand more! I already hired them again to build shelves in my garage.
Description of Work: Finished the unfinished part of basement. Built two rooms, one of which includes a kitchenette, and one bathroom.
