When the deliverymen showed up, there were two men to transport the 800+ lb hot tub. They initially brought out two small square 2x4 platforms with casters on the bottom. After moving it 5 ft, the casters collapsed under the weight. At that point, they got out a small hand dolly, similar to what I have in my house, and used straps that had to be tied together to reach around the hot tub to secure it to the dolly and attempted to tip it back on the dolly. They could not do it so I jumped in. We could not do it so I
recruited two other men on the street to help. We did manage to finally tip it back and move it. Without the plywood to roll on, it was tough going over grass. It slipped three times and slammed into the ground each time. Once it hit my neighbor smack in the face, almost breaking his nose. Another time was right as we were going through the gate and when it slammed down, it bent the gate latch. When we finally got it to the site and situated it, there were several scratches on the fiberglass rim that had been on the bottom side.
The two deliverymen worked very hard but simply were not enough manpower to complete the task, nor did they have the equipment to do so successfully. There were several times during the process where I felt unsafe and as if there was a good chance one of us could be seriously hurt as it fell, not to mention that the hot tub itself could have been badly damaged in any of the drops. I am happy to say that after I got it hooked up and filled, there were no leaks ? or that could have been a whole other
nightmare.
When I called to discuss the move the following week, I was extremely disappointed with the company?s response. I told them that I was very dissatisfied with the service I received and explained the situation. At first, Millie was very conciliatory. When I pushed and asked what could be done about it/what could be done to make me happy, her tone changed completely. She asked if I wanted money back. I replied that that was a possible option due to having to participate in the move, but I was open to other
ideas. I really just wanted them to understand how bad the experience was; most companies would stand behind their service. At the least, one would think they would offer to pay the three of us that had to help move it the same amount they pay their hired movers. At that point she tersely stated that she would have to talk with her supervisor and hung up. The next day I had another terse voicemail stating there would be no money reimbursed and that it was a ?successful delivery?. Since then, I have e-mailed the company to get her supervisor?s contact information so I could speak with him. I have gotten no response. I have called the company directly; one time I got through and got Millie and asked to be transferred. In the process I was disconnected. When I called back three other times my call was not picked up.
I am not a hard person to please. I simply ask for quality service and for a company to stand behind it when something goes wrong. I?m sorry to report that I do not feel this company did. Despite prior knowledge of what the job would require for success, this delivery was understaffed and ill-equipped, resulting in the product being dropped to the ground three times, the hot tub
fiberglass shell being scratched, the gate latch requiring repair, my neighbor getting smacked in the face, and my back being strained for three days afterwards from helping with the delivery. If this delivery had gone to the home of a middle-aged couple who did not have extra help that could be recruited, the delivery would never have been possible.
I always try to contact the company first and work it out, but when that fails, I go above. After failing to get satisfaction, I reported this problem to Overstock.com and filled them in on the details ? my goal was simply to convince them to use a different company for large deliveries in the St. Louis area to prevent other customers from having a similar experience. After hearing about the experience, they immediately offered financial compensation and to follow up with the company. I wish Show Me Home Delivery had simply done this up front and saved me a month of hassle. Based on my experience, I would strongly counsel against using this company.
"Thank You Member."
"It is unfortuate that this customer understood that we would provide an assembly service that we are not contracted to do with our retail partner. With that said, there is no excuse for rudeness and our employees are counseled through a corrective action plan in situations such as these. Our goal is to provide exemplary service each time. In the even a customer doesn't receive that, please contact our president directly. She wants to make sure your experience with SMHD is positive and will field the phone call herself. Thank you Member for your comments."
