When we told them we were going to go with them, they sent over a contract which was riddled with errors, most obvious was the fact that the contract listed the total sum of $3650.00, which is the agreed price, but later stated that all materials would be billed separately. When we brought this to their attention, they mentioned that this was a blanket agreement and they needed to change that statement, but wouldn't send a new contract. This never became an issue, but was the first red flag.
When we finally agreed upon a date to start and a date to finish, they did not meet these times. We had just purchased this home and were anxious to move in, but we wanted to refinish the floors first. The workers showed up at the house, usually after 5:00pm and worked late in to the night. I can't thank the workers enough. They were put in a bad situation as the Owner of Ripp N Finish had obviously overbooked, but we needed to get into our house and asked them to stick to the agreed upon schedule. They delivered the floors a few days late.
We agreed to pay extra to have the quarter-round removed, reinstalled, and caulked in the entire home to avoid stain on the painted wood. When they started sanding, they hadn't removed any of the quarter-round and when I went to the home, the workers said that wasn't in their budget. I had to call the Owner and remind him that I was paying for it. They removed 90% of the quarter-round and when I returned a second time, they told me they weren't going to remove the quarter-round in the kitchen because it had been glued in place. I could deal with that, but expected a refund for the decreased work scope. The Owner said "You know, it really isn't much so I can't give a refund." We never got a refund for this decrease in scope.
The work was finished a few days later than originally agreed upon, but we managed. When the floors were finally done, they looked beautiful. They really did do a fantastic job. My only complaint, was in an area in the kitchen in front of the refrigerator. They had filled a small quarter-sized hole in the floor with wood putty, then covered the light putty with a permanent marker to darken it since it wouldn't accept the stain. This spot still looks like permanent marker on the floor to this day. When I let the Owner know about it, he said they'd come out to look. Weeks went by so I reminded him again. Then one Friday at 5:00 I got a text from the finisher saying he was on his way. This was the only notice I received, and unfortunately I couldn't get home in time to meet him. They never contacted me again to remedy the problem. Every time I stand in my kitchen I see this spot, and think about how I paid $3650 for a permanent marker spot on my floor.
Finally, they had promised up to a $100 refund if we gave a positive review online. We were never even given this option, perhaps because they knew we wouldn't give a great review, but they should have at least offered what they promised originally. Not only that, but we had to call and remind them they owed us the cleaning kit and felt pads that were also promised.
Ultimately, I wish we had gone with a different company. The floors look great, aside from the permanent marker, but the professionalism and care for the client was just not up to par. I wish I could give them an A+ rating...but they don't deserve it. I'd look elsewhere for your refinishing project.
"Thank you [removed member name] for your feedback. We are a fresh start up company only in our first year of operation. Your project was completed during a busy time for us. Therefore, the quality of customer service was lacking. This makes us sad to hear that this happened. However - the quality of the work was outstanding. Our lead refinishing team was assigned to your project and their skills are breathtaking! We have learned a ton this year and we are so sorry for the experience that you received. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to a much better performance during our second year in business. Respectfully,"
