Their work was amazing. It was just one contractor. He showed up on time and returned calls promptly. I felt comfortable having him in my house. He cleaned up the site every night. The price was on the higher end, but still within reason.
Description of Work: They remodeled our small kitchen. We gutted it ourselves and they put in new cabinets and floors. They also installed the appliances. The work took about two and a half weeks.

This company did very good work. They came right out on time to get the job going every day. They hired good subcontractors, plumbers and electricians, who did a great job on our kitchen.
Description of Work: They gutted and re-did the entire kitchen. They installed new appliances, lighting, electrical wiring, and plumbing.

We have waited a year to submit this review to give perspective to this extensive remodel. Bottom line: We could not be happier with the price, the quality of work, and professionalism of Tom and Rudy. Almost every work day, there was someone working on our kitchen or deck (or both!) The quality of the work really stands out. The deck is also something special. Rudy did most of this himself, and as a woodworker myself, I really appreciate the quality of the workmanship. We were very impressed how they were able to schedule around our contractors in addition to their own subcontractors. Any minor 'glitch' was covered and the work kept progressing. I give them credit for very good lines of communication. They cleaned up as best they could each day. They kept us informed at each step of the way and were constantly checking and double checking so that everything was done right the first time. I could go on and on. This is a good company!
Description of Work: This was a complex kitchen remodel. The kitchen and dining area were gutted and 'flipped'. The kitchen is now in the dining area and the dining moved to the kitchen area. Major changes in heating, plumbing and electricity occurred, each using subcontractors. In addition, a small deck was removed and replaced by a larger cedar deck and a window was replaced by a sliding door to the deck. The linoleum floor was ripped up and replaced by a wood floor by a separate contractor hired by us. The new cabinets are custom and installed by the cabinetmaker contracted by us. The counter tops are granite and installed by a fabricator. The project began on May 1, '06 and was completed by June 31, '06. During that time, Tom Earle and site boss Rudy, flawlessly coordinated all subcontractors and contractors we hired.

We only asked for an estimate. The representative arrived promptly, provided the estimate quickly, and also offered an estimate on additional work we were considering. The rep was professional and courteous. We chose to go with a smaller company for a smaller job.

Tom was very professional. He came out and gave a bid on remodeling a bathroom. Unfortunately, his bid was higher than I was able to pay for the job. However, the bid was not unreasonable and was in the neighborhood of other bids that I received.

Overall, the project went quite well. I was happy with the project from beginning to end...especially the end. Our kitchen looks amazing!c
Description of Work: We had new electric, cabinets, tile floor/wall installed. We also needed to have casing around windows and doors and plaster and drywall redone. We also had in and under cabinet lighting installed as well as new appliances installed. Travis was our contractor and he did an amazing job. I felt comfortable having him in my house, even when I wasn't home. Every night before leaving, he did an amazing job of making sure everything was clean and organized...even when it was a total messy job (like sanding drywall)! I was also impressed with how he thought of the "little things." For example, (and not many people would even notice this unless you are a Type A personality) making sure all of the screws in the electrical covers face the same direction.

Although Tom Earle the owner of GOOD NEIGHBORS did not actually do the work himself, he sent two of his employees, Jessie and Travis to do it he was available to help facilitate the logistics. I found him to be efficient in these matters and follow up was usually done in a quick manner. The job did take quite a bit of time to get rolling. The work they did was as described in the contract and I found him and his employees to be professional, punctual and trustworthy. I chose this company because in all contracts/work. I try to employ small business owners as much as possible rather than the larger corporations because I too am a small business owner. The other reason I chose them is the time to get to and complete the job was faster than the other two bids I had received. They were not the least expensive bid I received. They deal with MIDWEST KITCHENS AND BATHS. They too were great! They even honored a $500 coupon!
Description of Work: Two new kitchens in two small duplex units (except upper cabinets). Included install of all new appliances (ie. garbage disposal), 18 inch dishwasher, range, sink, counter-tops, over range hoods, tile floors with thresholds, baseboards, base-cabinets, toe-kicks, faucets. Price did not include the appliances, flooring material or faucets. They are honest and to the point !! No frills, no surprises !!!

Overall, I am happy with the work that Good Neighbors did for us, but there were a few glitches during the remodel process. Unfortunately, the first person assigned this job did not perform up to any reasonable standard and after a week and a half was taken off the job and replaced by Jesse. I liked Jesse a lot. He was very polite, friendly, and a hard worker. He seemed to be stretched pretty thin as he now had to work 2 rehab jobs (his original assignment plus ours). We were told the job would take a week to a week and a half, but ended up taking 3 and a half. Since the bathroom being worked on held our only bathtub/shower and we have two kids (2 and 4) the extended time was sort of a pain. I think because Jesse felt so rushed there are few detail items that we may end up touching up ourselves. Also at the present time we are having a few caulk issues. All in all, I am happy with the bathroom and the work done and would call Good Neighbors again if I decided to do another project.

Well they were very good the first week and then we got hit with the bad thunderstorm that knocked out most of the electrical power in Missouri. Upon the electrical power returning there was some problem with the work progress that was taking too long. We called Tom (the owner) who rectified the problem. We are still thinking of hiring them again in the future for our other bathrooms and kitchen work. The price quoted does not include the bathtub, sink, toilet, towel racks, floor tiles, bathroom cabinet, wall mirror,etc... that we felt more comfortable in purchasing ourselves. The price we paid for the work included an extra $900 because of more digging into the subflooring to make the bathroom legal to code; this wasn't discovered until after the subflooring was removed. Tom is very personable, knowledgeable and a prompt contractor and we are very impressed with the quality.

There were several problems with leaking plumbing immediately after it was installed and the subcontractor broke the cultured marble back panel for the surround. Tom of Good Neighbors made sure the replacement piece was a rush job and he tried to make sure we had a working shower while we waited. We had the new shower and tub installed and working, but some of the finish details were lacking and we were not happy with the trim work around our window in the shower. Tom made it right by seeing that the details were finished to our liking and ordered extra pieces to finish the window trim again. I can't say we had a good experience, but Tom stuck to the project and didn't try to talk us out of quality or charge us to fix mistakes his company made. He was truly concerned with getting the job done to our satisfaction. Given the horror stories I have heard about other contractors, I feel Good Neighbors is a good one and I am willing to give them another try the next time we have a project.

Phase 1: Satisfied with work. For the most part, good quality work. Had to be called back to correct minor oversights which was done willingly. Rudy and Ron worked very hard and were very professional and courteous. Arrived early,,dependable and cleaned up every evening. Since I wasn't home all the time, Rudy took my dog out for a few necessary ''walks,'' which was above and beyond his job, but which I appreciated. Phase 2: Problem with matching ceiling texture and wall finishing. Three to four attempts to correct. (Ron even came over on a Saturday). Finished project is better but below expectation. Shade brackets removed for painting, but subsequently broke because reinstalled incorrectly resulting in shade falling. New brackets obtained and reinstalled. Last day of project, areas was cleaned up and tools put away before walk through and approval. Thought this was a little premature, however, Tom did stop by a few days later to review job.
Description of Work: Phase 1:($12,962) Kitchen remodel, new cabinets, new tile, load-bearing wall removal between kitchen and dining room (involved moving electrical wires). Paint kitchen, hall. Install three 6-panel doors. Phase 2:($3,800 contingent on performing phase 1) Half wall and fireplace removal in living room. Paint living/dining room. Install new baseboard. Extra work:($50.00) Replacement of outlet plugs.

Job 1: Tom was professional and courteous. The price was very reasonable. The work was done promptly and efficiently. Jesse, who did most of the work was very pleasant and accommodating. Some extra work was required to bring the plumbing up to code, which was done. We are having them do our master bath next. Job 2: All of the workers were very professional, pleasant, and talented. The job took much longer than expected, but did get completed. Good Neighbors was imaginative and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Job 1: Our lower level bathroom needed a new shower, new floor, new vanity, new toilet, and plumbing brought up to code. Good neighbors did the job for us. ($5,200) Job 2: The masterbath was completely reworked. Took out the old shower, tub, and toilet. Moved the linen closet. Built a new medicine cabinet, shelves, enlarged shower stall, put in corner whirlpool tub, tiled bathroom floor, tub deck, and part of walls. ($16,000)

There was a problem with communications. He understood one thing and I understood another. He was ill and wasn't able to get back to me when I expected him to.
Description of Work: When I called, I reached Tom who said he'd have his lead, Larry, call me. Larry called & we set an appointment for Saturday at 9 AM because he had to be somewhere else at 10 AM. About 9:30 I called his cell # & no one answered. About 9:45 he called me & said he was just getting into the shower, wasn't feeling well, & would call Monday. By the time he called back we had signed a contract with another company.

LARRY ROBINSON WAS THE LEAD ON THIS JOB. LARRY WAS DILIGENT AND KEPT THE WORK MOVING AT A RAPID PACE. HE ASKED QUESTIONS WHEN APPROPRIATE AND ASKED FOR APPROVAL OF SIGNIFICANT ITEMS. FROM START OF JOB TO COMPLETION IN JUST OVER 4 WEEKS. THERE WERE ONLY 1-2 DAYS IN THAT TIME THAT GOOD NEIGHBORS (GN) WAS NOT ON SITE WORKING. IN OUR CONTRACT I HAD ADDED A $250 BONUS FOR ON TIME OR EARLY DELIVERY (SIMILAR PENALTY FOR LATE DELIVERY). THEY DID EARN THE BONUS. I BELIEVE THAT GN WOULD HAVE MAINTAINED A SIMILAR SCHEDULE WITHOUT REGARD TO THE CONTRACT. SUBCONTRACTORS WERE USED FOR PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL WORK. THERE WERE SOME ISSUES WITH THE PLUMBING INSTALLED AND SOME REWORK DURING THE 4 WEEK JOB ON THE PLUMBING, BUT GN DID NOT HESITATE TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. GN TOOK ON THIS JOB THAT SEVERAL KITCHEN REMODELERS DID NOT WANT BECAUSE OF THE PLUMBING, GAS, AND ELECTRICAL WORK INVOLVED. THE PRICE WAS GOOD AND THE QUALITY OF THE WORK EXCELLENT.
Description of Work: WE DID A TOTAL GUT AND INSTALL OF OUR KITCHEN. THE KITCHEN WAS STRIPPED DOWN TO BARE STUDS AND SUBFLOOR, CEILING REMAINING. SINKS WERE MOVED, GAS AND ELECTRIC WAS MOVED/INSTALLED. NEW DRYWALL, FLOORING, CABINETS, FRAMED IN PANTRY, AND CABINETS WERE INSTALLED. GOOD NEIGHBORS COMPLETED ALL OF THE WORK WITH THE EXCEPTION OF INSTALLING THE SOLID SURFACE COUNTERTOP. NEW FIBERFLOOR WAS INSTALLED. NEW LIGHTING ON CEILING AND UNDERCABINETS WERE INSTALLED. CEILING FAN WAS MOVED. WALLS WERE DRYWALLED, TAPED AND PRIMED TO PAINT READY. CABINETS WERE INSTALLED AND SHELVES WERE INSTALLED AND MODIFIED AS NEEDED FOR PLUMBING AND DUCTWORK.

GOOD NEIGHBORS HAD THEIR WINDOW SUBCONTRACTOR CALL ME FOR A QUOTE ON 10 REPLACEMENT WINDOWS. EVIDENTLY, THIS IS A SMALL ORDER. THE SUBCONTRACTOR WAS VERY ATTENTIVE WHEN IT CAME TO PROVIDING ME WITH AN ESTIMATE. HE GAVE ME A PRICE THAT NO COMPETITOR COULD MATCH. ONCE I SIGNED THE CONTRACT, IT TOOK ME SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TO GET THE INSTALLER TO VISIT AND TAKE THE WINDOW MEASUREMENTS. BOTTOM LINE, NO ONE COULD TOUCH THIS GUY'S PRICE. THE WINDOWS SHOULD BE HERE IN ONE WEEK.
