Requested an estimate for a full kitchen remodel. Doing my own research, I came up with a number before Tom gave me the bid and it was spot on. The bid included everything we asked for and was totally in order. Unfortunately, the wife threw her trump card and we went with another contractor that were "friends of a friend of family etc". Tom is a good communicator and always showed up on time. My overall experience with Good Neighbors was excellent and the next remodel or project we have, I plan on giving Tom a call.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel estimate - full gut with new cabinets, counter tops and structural changes. I contacted Good Neighbors for a bid. The price was right and the expertise was there, but ultimately we ended up not going with Good Neighbors due to "family" influences.

Tom did a great job, he was very professional, a couple of items were completed at new extra charges even though we both were not sure if we talked about it at the estimate level, thats why he was so easy to work with. I would never hesitate using Tom again. We were very satisfied with our remodeling project

Tom came to do the estimate a few days after we asked for it. Work began less than a week later. It took Jeff 4 days to do the work. He was very good at all the different things he did. He explained what he was doing and why, and was professional about his job. When he found the new vanity would not go in because of where the plumbing was, he explained the situation to us and gave us the information we needed to decide what to do.
Description of Work: Removed old toilet, vanity, tile flooring and damaged sub floor. Repaired floor and installed new tile sub floor. Installed new ceramic tile and grout. Installed new toilet and vanity. Changed plumbing under sink and moved electric switch box to fit new vanity.

They went above and beyond on everything. They had the baseboards custom made for us and they had to move the cabinets up for us and did a lot of problem solving throughout the project. They did a great job maintaining the integrity, original foot print of our home.

They ripped 3 layers of tiles and walls and put in new tiles and walls. They also put in fixtures, did plumbing work and did painting too. After the work there were a lot of little things that wasn't quite right, which I wasn't happy about. The nice thing about them is that they kept informing you about what they were doing, and if I had any questions they would answer it. It took 3 months to get the job done. Their conduct was good and they were reasonably priced.

We had a fantastic experience. The project started in the middle of September and finished in the beginning of December with a few details that were wrapped up in January. Tom is consistently easy to work with, wants to please, and he suggested some great design ideas. We appreciated the flexibility with materials-they will install whatever you want. This was not the case with other companies we received bids from. Jeff performed beautiful tile work and also offered his most honest opinions and suggestions. We found all of the people associated with the company to be friendly and respectful of us and our home.
Description of Work: Good Neighbors constructed a new bathroom for our master suite and prepared the old bathroom to be a walk-in closet. They added a new wall, plumbing and electric and installed all materials provided by us. The actual cost paid to Good Neighbors was about $30,000 and we spent the remaining $13,000 on fixtures and tile.

Everything was done decently, but the finishing was a little sloppy. There was spattered paint on the bathroom floor from touch up painting. I called the owner of the company, Tom, to fix the job. There is still some paint on the bathroom floor after he was done. He attempted the job was done sloppy and advised me he had fired the guy that did the work in our house. Overall the job was done OK and would probably use him again.

THE MEMBER INFORMED ME THAT MY WORKERS BROKE A WALL SCONCE IN THE HALLWAY. IN THE BATHROOM, THERE WAS PAINT ON THE BASEBOARD AND THE FLOOR ALONG WITH A HOLE IN THE FLOOR FROM THE PLUMBER MOVING PIPES TO THE WALL IN ORDER FOR THE VANITY DRAIN TO BE UP TO CODE. I PERSONALLY WENT OVER AND PAINTED THE BASEBOARD AND REPAIRED THE HOLE IN THE FLOOR. I CLEANED ANY PAINT OFF OF THE FLOOR THAT I COULD SEE. SHE NEVER MENTIONED ANY MORE PROBLEMS TO ME. I WILL GIVE HER A CALL IMMEDIATELY TO SEE IF SHE WOULD LIKE ME TO RETURN TO DO MORE CLEANING. OH, AND THE LIGHT ONLY NEEDED NEW LIGHT BULBS

DURING A PHONE CONVERSATION WITH THE MEMBER HE INFORMED ME THAT OTHER COMPANY’S BIDS CAME IN ABOUT $1000.00 LESS THAN OURS, OR INCLUDED MATERIALS WE DID NOT. I TOLD THE MEMBER THAT I COULD NOT LOWER MY PRICE. I SAID TO THE MEMBER THAT HIS BEST BET WOULD BE TO GO WITH ONE OF THE OTHER COMPANIES. I WISHED HIM LUCK WITH HIS PROJECT.

From start to finish the crew was careful, trying to make sure the dust and dirt didn't travel throughout the house (that is impossible with a large project). During the soffit tear out we learned there were pipes and venting that had to be moved and Tom handled that without any issues. His crew went as far as mopping the floor several times and left the house in great condition. We love the way everything turned out and would highly recommend Tom and Good Neighbors! Should we have a future project we will call Tom.
Description of Work: Tom came out to quote our kitchen remodel close to a year ago. His price was good but we put off the job for 6 months. We called Tom to quote again in mid July and he was happy to do so. This was not an easy job as we had soffits around the kitchen we wanted removed. His estimates were timely and we agreed to go ahead with the project in early August 2008. He was to start by August 15th and he did so on time. Tom's job was to tear out old cabinets, appliances, counters and floor. He replaced them with new cabinets, flooring, and granite countertops. Tom had a list of companies he worked with that would give us a discount. For the most part the firms he recommended were very reasonable and or met prices of their competition. The floor ran throughout our kitchen, breakfast room, hallway, bathroom and laundry room. During the tear out we decided to have the toilet and vanity replaced in our bathroom along with the wallpaper stripped. We originally had decided not to replace the floor in our laundry room but we added that to the job along with painting that room. Even with that added, Tom's crew finished the job about a week after the original targeted completion date and we think that was great.

This was our first big "redo" in our older home. Tom and Jesse were very easy to work with. Things we really appreciated: Tom was able to meet with us during the evenings multiple times before the start of the project to go over what we wanted, questions we had and updating the design. Jesse would always update us on the status of things and challenges he'd run into. Tom even gave us a referral for help in getting a new hot water heater installed. We liked being able to pick out preferences from the recommended vendors. The list made it easy to contact them. Hours and driving directions were also listed which were helpful. We were able to be involved at just the right amount. Tom would always return phone calls or emails also. The whole project took about 4 weeks including Jesse finishing on a weekend with the final touches. Any corrections (touch up paint, scratch repaired) that were needed were taken care of promptly and efficiently. We were comfortable letting Jesse work while we were away and he was able to manage with our dogs also. I was able to be home periodically on my days off and it was helpful to get updates etc. It was helpful to be home one day when the vanities were being set. The final design was a little different from the original estimate as we'd decided to remove a toilet divider wall to increase vanity space. Tom's price was lower than other estimates we'd received and we liked his style of communication. He never pushed a hard sell and was able to tell us what could be done with the remodel and what couldn't. We were able to maximize the most from the space we have and are enjoying it very much. We feel like we're in a new hotel bathroom! Jesse would go the extra mile with all the little details regarding hardware placement and the height of the shower head and the big things like double checking that drains were working properly etc. before it was too late. We highly recommend them for a good quality job, good communication and an end product you'll love.
Description of Work: Our main bath was completely redone. New toilet, marble shower, glass doors, vinyl floor (our preference over tile), sink and vanity with marble tops as well as a new second sink added to the area with a vanity base and marble tops. New baseboards, painted walls/ceiling, new vent cover, switches, mirror etc. Vanity cabinets included slow close drawers and all the bells and whistles. We supplied the light fixture, hardware and vent cover to be installed.

Tom Earle was very professional at our first meeting. He measured the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room. I enjoyed working with Tom from start to finish of this project. The guys who worked on this project, Jesse and Jeff, were prompt, polite and moved quickly through the project. Each day there was progress and if one of them was sick, they would personally call me to tell me why they wouldn't be there that day. They were also very polite to my children and I appreciated that. They helped me with several extra little things that were broken in my house as well. Each day Jesse would call me to get an update on my opinion and if there was something that I did not like, they were quick to change it. Jeff is quite talented with tile and made my backsplash into something that was impressive. They had a nice list of suppliers with contact names which was very helpful. My husband was worried about how intrusive it would be when in fact it was not intrusive at all. They were delightful to work with and I will definitely hire them again to do more things.
Description of Work: Completely gutted kitchen, half bath and laundry room. Replaced cabinets, counter tops, painted, installed appliances, plumbing, new tile floor, and back splash. Price includes cabinets, granite, etc.

Tom Earle came on a Saturday to discuss the potential remodeling of our master bath. He measured & expressed concern over the amount of space that would be left for a vanity chair once the corner tub was put in. He left indicating he would research available corner tubs and get back to me with an estimate for the job. Ten days later he phoned and asked me if I had decided anything on my bathroom yet. He asked if there were any dealers in the area. I was taken aback with this conversation, to say the least. He did not follow-through with researching tubs and appeared to have no interest in the job, even though he didn't say that or indicate why he hadn't come through with tub models or an estimate. He basically wished me luck with the project. The conversation was very odd.
Description of Work: The only service performed was he kept his Saturday appointment with us, measured the master bath and said he would get back to us after researching corner bathtubs. He said he would call in a few days with the information and an estimate.

The entire process was outstanding. I just have three stories that capture what it was like to work with this company. First, the spring of 2008 was wet, very wet. One night when we were experiencing a particularly strong storm, Tom came over to the house in the middle of the night to check on critical areas that might be exposed to the rain. This kind of care was typical throughout the project. Second, the level of communication at every point along the way was outstanding. Tom alerted us to the workflow patterns and the plan coordination at every step. When there was an issue with our electrical service, as an example, he was able to walk us through what the process would look like and where we might anticipate a work slowdown. Third, I had three bids from other companies for the same work and Good Neighbor was the most expensive bid, but I told them that Good Neighbor was our first choice to do the work. To compete with these bids they began to suggest some value added features including details like a coffered ceiling and French doors. They also worked with us to perform some cost savings by having us paint. The name Good Neighbor says it all.
Description of Work: We added a bedroom, large closet, and a mudroom to our existing property. Beyond the immediate project, we utilized Tom s subcontractors for some additional work. That additional work included replacing our Furnace/AC and all ductwork for the house, concrete work around our patio, and some minor electrical work.

I'm so glad we never got further than we did in the process. I would never recommend working with such an unprofessional.
Description of Work: We scheduled an estimate with the owner after he was recommended. He performed a quote for some friends who ultimately went with someone else, but the quote process had been positive. The owner called me this morning to cancel a quote for this evening. He said he wanted to turn down the business because he couldn't compete with the cost that our friends had found. I told him we were not comparing his pricing to their other contractors (we were selecting others). I also shared that they actually went with someone who had quoted more than his price, but he bickered about what he had heard. He made several incorrect assumptions, #1) that we were planning to spend the same as our friends #2) that we were basing our decision solely on cost #3) he must have been assuming we had not budget to work within. This was all very interesting because he had not yet asked what our budget was or what level of work we had planned to do. We are planning to only replace cabinets and have a budget of $20K. I would think this prospect would be enticing to this business owner. His loss. Beware of this company's professionalism.

I MADE THREE TRIPS AND DID THREE INDIVIDUAL ESTIMATES AND KITCHEN LAYOUTS FOR THE PERSON THE MEMBER'S GOT OUR NAME FROM. THEY WERE NICE PEOPLE TO WORK WITH, BUT THEY DECIDED TO GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY. I WAS TOLD THEY CHOSE THE OTHER COMPANY BECAUSE THEY WERE SLOW AND NEEDED WORK, SO THEY GAVE THEM A GREAT DEAL. BEFORE CANCELING WITH HER I CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL HOMEOWNERS. THEY TOLD ME THE OTHER COMPANY DID THERE KITCHEN AND THAT THEY WERE HAPPY WITH IT. SHE ALSO SAID SHE WAS ONE OF HER BEST FRIENDS. I FOUND IT STRANGE THAT WHEN I HAD FIRST TALKED TO THE MEMBER, SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD NO IDEA IF THEY EVER GOT THERE KITCHEN DONE. I DISCUSSED ALL THIS WITH MY CABINET PERSON AND WE DECIDED TO PASS ON THE JOB. KITCHEN ESTIMATES ARE VERY TIME CONSUMING. THERE WAS NO BICKERING ON MY END. SHE GOT UPSET BECAUSE AS A PROFESSIONAL, I DID MY HOMEWORK, QUALIFIED HER JOB, AND CHOSE NOT GIVE HER A FREE ESTIMATE. I AM SORRY SHE GOT UPSET, IT WAS NOT MY INTENTION.

They did a great job. It took a while to get them started - I put down a deposit in July, work started in early Dec. These guys are understandably popular. It didn't bother me as I didn't have any particular timetable. Once they started, there were no delays - somebody was there working Christmas Eve & New Year's Day even! The guys doing the work were all very good - I would particularly recommend Quentin, who did great work. I felt as though he had just as much of a stake in making my kitchen perfect as I did. He even brought some of his own Mexican tile in to put in the backsplash - I thought that was really above & beyond the call of duty! Tom kept the costs down - compared to other companies his bid came in $7-8k less. The only overrun we had was that the stack needed to be replaced, but even then it came in at a reasonable cost. Things went smoothly with Good Neighbors - I am very happy with the work and will definitely call them for the next project.

This company is wonderful to work with. They are prompt and professional. We had a bid from them within two days of Tom Earle first looking at the job. Jesse and Jeff, who did the work on our bathroom, were meticulous and did not make assumptions about anything. Plus, they are both just really nice people. They called me if they had the slightest question about how I wanted something done instead of making the decision without consulting me. Tom Earle made suggestions that were a great improvement on my original plans, and Howard from Artistic Glass, who did the glass shower wall, did a beautiful job, and he also had suggestions that were a vast improvement on our original ideas.
Description of Work: The master bathroom was completely gutted: Old tile, shower, garden tub and water-damaged drywall were removed and new drywall put in, a new walk in shower was built, new linen closet installed, including solid wood 6 panel door, all new tile, light fixtures and exhaust fan and bathroom painted.

Good Neighbors was a pleasure to work with from start to finish - the opposite of every horror story everybody warned me about with remodeling contractors. From the day Tom Earle came by to do the estimate to the day they started work to the day they finished, everything was done on schedule as promised and sometimes early. As requested, they scheduled the floor finishing work for while we were on vacation. Rudy and Jeff were professional, prompt and courteous, and did beautiful work; you can tell they take pride in getting it right. The electrician did a great job and helped us with lighting plans. Plumbing was mostly good, with a few problems that were quickly resolved. Tom worked well with the city on permits and with a home improvement store, where we bought our cabinets and appliances. Mostly I didn't have to get involved in coordinating deliveries, he took care of it. The inevitable changes that were needed in the original plans were handled quickly at minimum cost.
Description of Work: Completely gutted old kitchen down to the studs. Moved a load bearing wall, relocated plumbing, ventilation and electrical service. Installed wood floor, installed cabinets and appliances that we bought (which accounted for 2/3 of the total price), installed recessed lighting and fan, installed tile back splash, miscellaneous repairs to existing problems.

Excellent!!! I cannot praise Tom and Jesse enough. Tom is the main contact and he walked us through the process so that he fully understood what we wanted, provided options for us to consider, provided us sources for materials, etc. This was our second bathroom to gut/remodel and this was easily the best experience. Jesse performed the work and was exceptional. His communication, professionalism exceeded our expectations. By far, Jesse maintains the cleanest job site I have ever seen!!! The quality of Jesse's work is exceptional and he readily showed us what was going on, solicited our feedback and reviews, and made all tweaks that we requested. Follow up was also very good. Overall, this was a great experience and I do not hesitate recommending Good Neighbors.
