 + -1 moreA Roto Rooter plumber repaired our shower control without using new parts, but the repair failed within a month. This kind of thing happens. My main complaint is that I couldn't get the company to send out a plumber to do the job right, even though I was willing to pay a second time (the original job was not guaranteed). Apparently, the company did not keep an accurate record of the job, and could not identify the plumber on the original job. But even after this was understood, I could not get a dispatcher or manager to return my calls and take responsibility for getting someone out to simply do the job right. I finally ended up calling a different company that had it fixed in 20 minutes. I was shocked at how little interest the people at Roto Rooter had in standing behind their work and retaining a potential long-term customer. After a couple of rounds of negotiation, I finally received a full refund for the failed work. The manager I spoke with at first offered me a half refund because I could not remember the name of the dispatcher I had originally spoken with. After seeing my negative report on Angie's List, the company raised its offer to a full refund. Unfortunately, the way the company processed my complaint tells me that its managers still don't get what good customer service is about.

Description of Work: Work was performed on a Sunday (additional $30 charge). Water was backing up into the basement, technician responded to the house approximately one and half hours after the phone call. Total time on site was approximately 30 minutes.

 + -1 moreWe called yesterday; my husband had removed the toilet and put in new tiles. But we needed the toilet put back. We called Angie s List and they gave us Roto-Rooter and we called (they wouldn t give us a price over the phone, they gave it to us when they got here) and they said that they would be there today and they would charge us $451 which seemed like a ridiculous price to re-mount a toilet. We called another company (that Angie s List recommended first but they couldn t do it until Tuesday) to get another price and they said that it would be less than $300.
Description of Work: Were to re-mount my toilet that we already have.

 + 0 moreThe rep arrived exactly on time and got straight to work. He fixed the kitchen issues then took care of our basement sewer backup. He not only snaked the basement and back sewer lines but insisted on taking care of the front as well and was EXTREMELY thorough. We are very, very pleased.
Description of Work: We had had an ongoing leak underneath our kitchen sink, due to poor quality work contracted by the previous owner of our 100 year-old home. We'd put off the repair until last week, when we had a sudden emergency caused by tree roots in our front and back pipes. The rep came out and fixed the kitchen issues, then tackled our basement flooding/drain back up issues. He snaked out the lines in the front, the rear and the basement of our house, and he really worked very, very hard. It could not have been a pleasant task.

 + 0 moreI had called another plumbing company I found listed on Angie's list, but when I told them what I needed done, they said they didn't have the equipment to do that job and suggested I call Roto-Rooter. They were very responsive when I called and offered to send someone out that day. I asked them if they could come the next morning and we made an appointment for between 8 and 10. I work close to home so asked them if they could give me a call 15-20 minutes before they came. They said they would call me half an hour before they arrived. They did call and told what time they would arrive. I got home about ten minutes before they said they would be there and they were already there. We talked about the problem for a few minutes, the technician told me what he was going to do and how much it would cost. He got right to work and was done in about 45 minutes. He was very pleasant and professional. He took my Angie's List coupon and deducted it from the amount quoted. Everything went very smoothly. They give a 6 month warranty on the work.
Description of Work: My bathtub drain was draining very slowly. Then the bathroom sink drain starting draining slowly too. They cleaned out both drains.

 + 1 moreThe entire operation was fairly quick and simple. Paul, the technician they sent out, first looked at the drain and determined that he could do the work immediately. While setting up his tools -- mainly some sort of auger -- he explained what he was going to do and what the charge would be (basically, a flat fee and additional hourly charges depending on how long it took). Fortunately he was able to slip the auger into the drain without removing the downspout. He spent about 30 to 45 minutes clearing the drain and checking that water was flowing freely after he'd finished (he showed me this for verification). He also explained some things about clay-pipe drains like ours and pointed out some things to attend to to avoid future blockages.
Description of Work: Cleared out a downspout drain that we'd found to be clogged while investigating water-drainage issues that were creating leaks in our basement.

 + 0 moreI would have been much more critical of this vendor had Levoid not shown up to save the day. While their price is high, the 6-month warranty is a desirable feature. Although it took Roto Rooter two trips to fix the problem, they were punctual, professional, and their online scheduling is a real plus.
Description of Work: Water was leaking onto basement floor from overhead A/C vent and basement was periodically(2x/week) flooding from floor drain. Also wanted to better regulate household water temperature and install a hot/cold sink in basement. Contacted Roto Rooter online and scheduled service for 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. time slot 2 days out. Chris, a plumber, arrived within the scheduled time slot and began to diagnose my home's water leakage issues. With my assistance, we isolated the problem to the kitchen sink and laundry room drains. He then spent the next 1 hour snaking just the upstairs drains until he said that they were both cleared. He told me that I should wait until I remodeled the bathroom to improve water temperature and quoted me a rather shocking $1,000 to install a high-quality laundry room sink in my basement. While the overhead leak seemed to be repaired, the basement floor drain again backed up 2-days later after using our washing machine. I went online and set up an 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. appointment for the next day. Levoid arrived on time, carefully listened to my assessment of the problem and immediately came up with a diagnosis. He spent 30 minutes snaking my floor drain and apparently fixed the problem as it has not leaked in the subsequent 2 weeks. Levoid did not charge me for the follow-up service as the work was covered under Roto Rooter's 6-month warranty.

 + -1 moreOutstanding - I was called when there was a delay (service man would not arrive in the 2 hour window they gave). The work was done efficiently, with everything done explained to me. I think the service man went out of his way driving downtown for the necessary part. I was very happy with the service received.
Description of Work: Replaced the stem and washers on the hot water knob in the shower. He came out on a Saturday about 11:00 and after realizing he would need the stem part, called a plumbing shop open on Saturday (my house is older and home improvement store would not have the part). The shop closed at noon - he drove down and picked it up so I would have use of my shower. When he returned he installed the part, showed me the pipe area was dry (I was concerned about mold) and told me the work was guaranteed. I've had no drips or leaks since he made the repair.

 + -1 moreThis plumber had to be really creative to get a drain pipe set up in my basement. I have noticed a small amount of water after I've done a load of clothes. I've not taken the time to determine where it is coming from, so it's hard to comment on it at this time. I paid for the brand name and the website and the structure of this company. They did miss the first appointment, but they made it to the second appointment and were on time.
