Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

They left the drain plug out of the main stack and could not replace it. I was told to go to the hardware store to buy a replacement drain plug before I could use my water again.

Technician, John Zensen, was diligent and courteous to find the clog. Almost required an expensive dig but John was able to successfully clear the clog with snaking and verified with camera scoping.

Justin recognized the problem quickly. He snaked the outside lateral sewer line and then tested the system to make sure the problem was solved. He was in and out within an hour. He showed up within 45 minutes of my original call to Roto-Rooter. He gave me information regarding maintenance and clean-up.

Justin, the tech, #3455, was so professional and courteous. He snaked the front lateral sewer line, which was clogged. He was in and out with the problem solved in under an hour. This is not the first time I have used Roto-Rooter and it certainly will not be the last!

I call Rotor Rooter to schedule a time to get a plumber to fix my basement floor drain problem, The technician arrived right on time, explained what he was going to do and how much was going to cost. He was very clear and professional, he went right on to work. He completed his job and the offered a suggestion so the drain will not clog again.

We called for service at 2pm today and explained that we had a busted pipe that was leaking water into our basement and were told someone would arrive within 2 hours. They called us back at 3pm and stated they were running behind and to allow an additional hour and a half from 3pm. They called back at 4:30pm and again stated they were running behind again and to allow another 30 minutes. No one arrived. They called us back the last time at 6:35pm and stated that the only plumber they had that could fix a broken pipe ran into equipment problems and could not come out until tomorrow. It is really hard to believe they only have one plumber that would be able to fix a broken pipe. Now I have to try to find another company to come out (after hours) and fix our busted, leaking pipe. I wasted four and a half hours being told someone was on the way, all for nothing.

The young man who performed the service was very courteous and professional. He left the house in good shape and did not make too much of a mess. I would definitely use them again.

He also cleaned out our other main and lateral sewer lines to prevent future problems. We were completely satisfied by the competence and friendly service, from our initial call to receiving the bill.

Horrible…first they postponed the work by a day requiring me to reschedule for another day off from work…my yard, landscaping and sidewalk was destroyed by the excavation as well as damaging the siding on my house with the backhoe… the Roto-Rooter person responsible for marking the sewer line actually marked the water line which was damaged and I was charged an additional $800 for them to put in 2 fittings and approximately 25ft of 3/4 copper tubing…they then back-filled the trench and left a 3 foot high straw covered mound that blocks access to my front door. I don't know how to describe my level of dissatisfaction and complete frustration I experienced with this service. I am going to contact my attorney to see if I can recover any of the funds… Also, they left and did not advise me on who or even if they will repair the damage to the siding on my house…DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!

I've used Roto Rooter in the past with great success. However, this time, not so much. I called with a frozen pipe and a broken water dispenser which would not shut off. The first person told me someone would call me back within 45 mins. An hour and a half later, I called to check. The second person, after I explained my problem again, told me he was not a plumber, was at a call center, but could this wait until tomorrow? Oh, sure, I can leave water running into my sink overnight, no problem!!! Actually, what I said was, water was continuously running, so no. And he said he'd try to get someone out there between 2 and 4. THis is after I called at 8:45 in the morning to being with. So by now it's 10:15. I found another plumber to come out right away (fingers crossed, anyway), and I called Roto Rooter back and canceled. I won't use Roto Rooter again, because if I call for a plumber, it is helpful to talk to a plumber about the problem first.

The work was done just fine, unfortunately they really tore up my front yard bringing in the heavy equipment. I was told repeatedly they were plumbers, not landscapers. I will now have to hire a landscaper to repair the damage that was done not only where the break was (which I expected to have to do) but also from the side yard to the front where the wheels dug huge tracks through the yard.

On the day of the service I received 2 phone calls telling me the technician was on the way and should be there shortly, but arrival was later than expected. The work was explained and performed adequately. Clean up could have been a bit better. Cost was $300 which I thought was higher than same company a few years ago. Thats with the Angies list coupon. I would recommend, but will shop around for an alternative if needed again.

Went well and quickly. No pressure for unnessary services.

But, since we have an older home there were things that had to be updated. The job was done in one day and the plumber was a pro.

They would not give a approx. price before they came, they wait until they come, give you a high fee without even looking at the problem.

Unfortunately the problem returned a few days later and again, they were at our house within hours of us contacting them. They used a camera to determine the true cause of the problem as it was more than clogged pipes. They offered great advice and solved the true cause on the next visit. Very impressed with their staff.

I told him we had gotten two other estimates that were one-fourth of this estimate and that I didn't need his services.

The burst happened on a Thursday evening the week of the "polar vortex" freeze. Wednesday I called around for plumbers and almost all of them were booked at least until Saturday because of the cold snap. Roto-rooter said they could have someone there by Friday afternoon between 2-5pm. I heard nothing from them until just after 5pm when their dispatch called and said they had no plumbers available to send and needed to reschedule. They rescheduled me for 12-2 on Saturday. I heard nothing on Saturday and finally called them at 2 and was assured dispatch would call me back with an update. Two hours later I finally heard from dispatch that a plumber was on the way and should arrive within 30-40 minutes. Once the plumber arrived 30 minutes later he completed the job quickly and professionally and our water was back on and working within 15 minutes. He was pleasant and gave me advice to prevent the problem from happening again as well as how to correctly repair the drywall damage. Needless to say I wasn't happy with the responsiveness and punctuality for this service call. I gave them the benefit of the doubt due to the nature of the cold snap and contacted them via Angie's List with my complaint. The dispatch manager contacted me a little over a week later to address my concerns. He apologized for my experience and said that this was the first time they'd received the volume of calls in the midwest area (hundreds per hour) and where they had failed was in updating their dispatchers fast enough with correcting times to give customers. He advised that they are working on changing their policies to err on the side of telling people longer than expected wait times once call volume reaches a certain level, so that instead of having to cancel they would call instead with updates advising they had plumbers available earlier than expected. He also offered me a $75 (roughly 30%) refund on my service. Overall I was very pleased with the service I received once I finally got it. The plumber especially was excellent. The extraordinary circumstances certainly earned them some leeway from me, and the followup to my complaint earned them some more. I think under ordinary circumstances I would have received prompt service, so I would give them the benefit of the doubt and call again for service in the future. My review reflects this so the ratings are better than this one experience might reflect.

The Roto-Rooter plumber never showed up. I made a call at 12:20pm to find out what was going on. I was switched to the dispatcher who said that all of the plumbers they had were all backed up and they would fit me in when they were finished. (I had an appointment, so, I shouldn't have been and quot;fitand quot; in.) Since it's Saturday and I have things to do, I told him I would not wait around all day for a plumber to call. Extremely unprofessional - noone picked up the phone to call me and say there would be a delay. If the plumbers were so busy today, I find it hard to understand why the customer service rep who made the appointment didn't suggest another day since this was a non-emergency situation. Thirdly, as a real estate agent, I would never recommend my clients to this business if they can't even keep a simple appointment OR exhibit the professionalism to call the customer to let them know that there is a problem. In addition, if a business is heavily booked for a particular day, another appointment should not be added to the schedule. I will not be calling this business for my plumbing needs or recommending them to my customers.

Mike arrived on-time, well within the "30 to 40 minutes" estimate the dispatcher gave me when she called. He was also well within the 1-3pm estimate I had been given. He came in, looked, gave me a quote, did some paperwork and was back at out at his truck for the equipment. Within 5 minutes of arrival he was working on the blockage. I must say here that my husband (who is very handy) had worked on the blockage previously, but to the limit of the snake, which was 20 feet--so we knew it was farther than that. About 15 minutes later Mike ran out to the truck to get a replacement flange for the leaking one, and was done. All told he was there for under 30 minutes and was completely professional. He was careful getting the equipment in and out of our home, polite and respectful all the while. I was very pleased and the $30 coupon from Angie's List was no issue with him...and gave me a good price. Our pesky and annoying slow drain sink was now working better than ever! The after-hours call center was pleasant and made us an appointment for the following day (Sunday), arrival time to be between 10am-1pm and that we would receive a call 30 minutes before the plummer was to arrive. I was told that an earlier appointment was not available. On Sunday, we had not heard anything by noon, so I gave a call to the company. Jack answered the phone and said he had no idea when, or if, we would receive service that day. No call, no respect, nothing. VERY disappointed. Though, shame on me for calling this company ---- the last plumbing emergency was also handled in a very poor manner, being several hours late for an appointment. Honest goes far with me. If you can't make it, let me know so I can regroup. I would NEVER use this company again. (Royal Flush Plumbing was GREAT in coming through for us after Roto Rooter disappointed us.) UPDATE (1/24/14): Jim from Roto Rooter called me and apologized for my poor experience. I was glad that he understood how frustrating it is to have an appointment and then not be updated when the appointment is not going to be honored. Jim was extremely nice and offered to mail me some discount coupons for future use. There are too many reliable companies to take a third chance with Roto Rooter, but I truly appreciate Jim's call.

Maurice Love showed up very professional and provided all the information to me before performing job. This I appreciate knowing so that I wont be surprised with bill or future work orders. Definitely will call or refer service to my friends. This was the second call for service and I will definitely keep them on speed dial. I believe the first call for service was handled by Rob.

Drain clogged on Sunday morning. Despite very heavy demand volume that was related to severe weather, they committed to send a plumber between 9PM and midnight the same day. Service arrived just before 10 PM and worked two hours clearing drains. The technician was great: he was professional in every respect, brought all the right equipment, and left the site as clean as possible. We use this company routinely for large and small plumbing problems. My wife is very comfortable working with them when I am away from home. My sense is that their prices are a little higher than average but the value is right.
