After paying $259 for a 20 minute job, I wrote a poor review on Angie's List (which I am now updating) and got a call from Steve who was very helpful and provided me with a $75 coupon so that the job ended up costing $184. I am expecting a refund soon. I appreciate the follow up by Steve. I would recommend researching the cost of unclogging a disposal and ask for a coupon if you end up going with Roto Rooter. The plumber that came out to our house did not offer a coupon when I asked about the cost. I found other plumbers claiming to charge a flat rate of $135 for the hour, of course I didn't call them so I don't know if that was the real deal. But I do appreciate a business owner that cares.

Mike tried cleaning out the drain from the yard - no luck. He had to open the stack inside and clean it out from there. He worked for 3+ hours on a Sunday night. He was very professional and was so kind about explaining the situation. And he was so nice considering he was called out on a rainy Sunday night.

I called the service line on Thursday at about 11.00 p.m. after I discovered that the basement was flooded because the sump pump broke. They couldn't come out immediately but booked me for the next morning - they said changing the sump pump was not among the services they offered after hours. I called in the morning to check when someone will be coming (naturally I was panicked by the amount of water coming into the house...). The support staff were moderately helpful stating that all their technicians are on the job but reassured me that someone will be coming soon. Just after 9.00 a.m. a technician called to say he is on his way. From the moment Robert, the technician walked in, everything went perfectly. He was reassuring, checked everything to make sure it was just the sump pump problem and not a bigger, electrical one, checked all my water faucets to make sure none are leaking/damaged. He explained all their prices (services, permits, parts) so I knew what I will be paying. He did an excellent job, changing the sump pump and getting all the paperwork done (as is required by the city). Since they offered a discount (20%) I chose to cable the main line as a preventative measure. Robert did an outstanding job, was very thorough, changed the blades twice to make sure all the roots are cut out and the line is perfectly clear. Robert was courteous, was very professional and did an outstanding job. I couldn't be more pleased. He is a wonderful technician and I would recommend him and Roto-Rooter without any hesitation!

I called on a Monday morning and they were able to send a repairman out the same day. The wait for other plumbers I contacted would have been 2 or 3 days. They also called me twice prior to the repairman arriving to give me an approximate time when he would be there. The repairman was very nice and professional. I would definitely use them again and ask for Steve.

Drain started to run slow again within a week. I bought a gallon of Roto-Rooter brand drain cleaning solution to use as on-going maintenance of keeping drain cleared. Do to frustration and potential hassle. I never did call Roto-Rooter back to report this recurring problem. Just let it go. I'm still having the same problem.

I called Roto-Rooter to help with my water heater problem this morning. I have an electric water heater and originally thought one of the heating elements went out. We had luke-warm water, but at a consistent flow. First the good: The service repairman came out as requested (albeit a few minutes late). That's where the good ends. The bad: The repairman that showed up did absolutely NOTHING to fix or even properly diagnose the water heater. He didn't even touch it. He "guessed" what was wrong, solely based on what I was telling him. He then told me he recommended I buy a new one... His cost for that?? Upwards of $1500. He then tried to back peddle and suggest "maybe" something else to be the issue, quoting me another inflated charge (about half of his cost for a new heater) for that "fix". But again, he never so much as touched *anything*. So, thank you Roto-Rooter for sending out the laziest repairman around and for doing such a half-axed job. Your lackadaisical employee forced me to handle the repair on my own. The repair took less than 5 minutes once I purchased the part (a bad pressure relief valve) on my own and the proper wrench to replace it. All told, I spent less than $30... That's a small part compared to buying an entire water heater and a HUGE price difference from $1500. So again, thanks a bunch, Roto-Rooter. I will be sure to NEVER call for your lazy workers or your overpriced services; nor will I recommend you to ANYONE ever again.

I discovered basement sewer backed up about 7pm on Fri 10/17. After briefly panicing, I viewed the 5-6 ft circle of water and decided to call Roto Rooter. I was able to speak with their service dept. quickly with no waiting. She told me she could have someone out within an hour. No extra charge for after hrs service call, which is super! Within 10 minutes I received a call and was told the service technician would arrive Iin about 20 min. The technician called within 10 minutes to tell me he was on his way and was 5 minutes away. And he was. When Tim arrived he listened and asked questions to understand the problem. He explained the options along with pros and cons and costs for each. i decided on the more expensive and tborough option that would have longer lasting results. He showed me the pipe blockages using the camera followed by a second view after work was finshed. Very thorough. Tim was extremely friendly and answered my questions. He showed me the special water pressure tool he used so I could understand how it worked. We did the paperwork , he explained guarantee and made sure I knew I could make contact at anytime if I had questions or other concerns. Paid and he left. I have had no problems since.
Description of Work: Used camera to explore pipe from front yard to house. Showed me tree roots in pipe and roots creating blockage. Used pressurized water cable to drill through and clean roots from pipe. After using special tool he used camera cable to show results. All clear and was able to access pipe in to house to lower level toilet. Then ran cable from drain in basement to outside. All clear.

The technician, Jim, arrived within the 2 hour window set for the appointment time. He was friendly and professional in looking for the cause of the problem and quickly set up the cable machine to cable the line. He used shoe covers when he entered the house to prevent tracking in dirt, and had a mat to put his machine on to avoid getting the basement floor dirty. The entire process took about an hour. I had questions about having Roto-Rooter come back out to use a camera in the line to prevent future problems. Jim suggested that I first check with the city of St. Peters to see if they did that, and to call Roto-Rooter after trying that first. I appreciated that his main focus was on helping me solve a problem, not just pressuring me into another service call. I will definitely call Roto-Rooter again!

Service man was prompt. He stated he wanted to see the backup of water, since it had drained. So we turned on faucets and flushed toilets, causing water to come up in a basement floor drain visibly. However, he was not satisfied with that, and demanded that the basement toilet be flushed again. Because the drains were already full of water, the flush caused that toilet to overflow, to the extent that toilet water was flooding across half the basement. When I expressed my annoyance with having a flood, he blamed the toilet as having a "defective flapper valve". That is false, it works fine, so long as the bowl isn't full and flooding over. It worked before, and it is working now. And in any case, that had nothing to do with the flush he demanded, making the toilet flood over in the first place. He basically blamed me for what he demanded to be done. There was no good reason to do that last flush, he could clearly see the water was backing up in the floor drain under the sink by the laundry. There was no question about there being a problem, it was obvious. It looks in my opinion like he wanted it to flood. Either that or he was just plain careless, ignorant or the like. He then handed me the service agreement, on which he had written up their most expensive service (water jetting). When I suggested regular cabling, he tried to discourage that, suggesting the other was more likely to work. I feel like he gave me a standard sales tactic, to attempt to force an upgrade to more expensive service when the homeowner is faced with a flood and presumably will be ready to do anything to stop it. He also suggested that if I didn't want the work done, he could leave. It felt a lot like another hard sell tactic..."Do what I say or I go away and leave you with the problem"........ Frankly, I was about ready to have him depart in favor of a different company, but he was already there, it was less trouble to just have him do the work. We finally agreed that cabling would be done, and he went off to do it, but appeared very dissatisfied, to the point I wondered if he would do the work right. I called the office, and told them what had happened. I was eventually told they would have a manager call me. I have yet to get a call from any manager, we have phone messaging and would not have missed any call. Maybe they called the service guy, that I can't speculate on, but they never called me. The cabling worked, but I did not appreciate the flood the SERVICE GUY caused, which WE had to clean up. Nor did I appreciate being given what appears to be a hard sell in the face of a flood which the service guy caused (and did nothing whatsoever to clean up). I've called them before, but now I'm not very likely to call them again. They are very expensive, and for a high price, I get them causing a flood? They should have given me a discount for flooding the place. I didn't have a flood before I called them, just a backup in the floor drain under the laundry sink and very slow draining. Update: Quite soon after posting this review, I received a call from a person who gave me his first name, which may have been Steve, I didn't note it down, who stated he was a manager for Roto-rooter. He stated that he would have a part of the charge refunded in consideration of our having to clean up the flood. No need for numbers, but the amount he suggested was substantial. I assume it has been refunded, I used a charge card, but I have not gotten the bill as of yet, and so I do not know.

Extremely pleased with the service we received from Justin and would highly recommend the service. Have used Roto-Rooter previously and have always been pleased with the service.
Description of Work: We had a raw sewage backup into our basement from our septic system. Justin cleared out the stoppage and suggested we might want to have a camera technician come in to locate the problem with the line. Since this was a second call within six months there was no charge for the service. We are going to go with Justin's recommendation and request a camera technician.

We called and scheduled an appointment and they made themselves available the same day. They also followed up with an email to confirm the time of the appointment. Justin (technician #3455) arrived on time and put on booties to cover his shoes to protect our floors. He listened to the issue we had and the solutions we had tried to date. He agreed it might be a blockage further down the line but he also pointed out there may be a simpler problem. If the toilet doesn't move enough water from the tank to the bowl when you go to flush it, there is not enough pressure to create the flushing action. He recommended we try a simple test before we go through snaking the entire line. He went and got a bucket, filled it with water, poured it into the problem toilet, and it flushed perfectly. He explained that as toilets get old sometimes the water flow from tank to bowl slows down and if you can't get enough water flowing, the toilet just doesn't flush. Not only did Justin save us from a messy protracted ordeal of snaking a perfectly good drain line, he offered to discount the visit from $159 to $59 since he was only there for a short time and didn't need to do extensive work. While we still have to spend money on a new toilet, we were very happy with Justin and appreciated his approach to diagnosing our problem. He was timely, efficient, professional, and friendly. He listened carefully and explained the situation clearly. You really couldn't ask for a better experience.
Description of Work: We had a toilet that kept backing up. We had snaked it ourselves, tried reseating the toilet, and even pumping out our septic tank. Still the toilet would backup. We finally called Roto-Rooter assuming it was a backup farther down the line than our snake could reach.

Carl Hart was prompt and efficient. He was respectful of my house. It was a rainy day and he used the shoe covers and went through the back yard so as to not walk through my house with dirty or muddy shoes. He was friendly and knowledgeable.
