Gutter Brothers

Here is what is wrong with the rate(s) and the method used by Gutter Brothers: Going labor rates. In the last two months I paid (for hours spent on the job) : Painting in addition to a previously quoted job - $45.00/hour, Cleaning, clearing and restoring yard with a team incl. an arborist $40.00/man-hour. Removing a 62-ft. tree decayed at bottom, less than 10 ft. from side of house; cleaning all debris and carrying off tree using 5 guys (2 climbers and 3 handlers), heavy equipment, 7 hours, average $49.75/man-hour (higher skill level than the other two jobs) "Compared to" amount. The $250.00 is as misleading and deceptive as the infamous MSRP in the car trade. Using the above rates, it implies that a regular gutter job takes as much a 6 hours (?) "Special Deal" amount. The $100.00 is what one would pay for a 2 1/2 man-hour job at going rate; which Gutter Brothers was not about to do for me. A "special deal" would give a client at least 3 man-hours of labor, divided over gutter work and clean up. Instead, they sent one man with only one hour of daylight left to do the job. Their cleaning method. In October 2012 another firm cleaned my gutters, using 3 guys for about 1 1/2 hours. One man sat on the roof, throwing debris straight down. It formed a narrow pattern along the house, making it a simple task for the other two to sweep/rake and bag. I paid less than $100.00. ----- A full gutter could have as much as three layers: Top - loose leaves and twigs; Middle - heavy, wet leaves. These wet leaves could cover the top of the downspouts, causing some dirty water to remain as the bottom layer. ---- Gutter Brothers' power blower method would blow away the loose top layer and spread it all over the yard. I could not accept that, considering the recent restoration work done in the yard. The slimy middle layer might partially loosen up and also fly into the yard below. What will for sure happen is that the blower will squeegee out the layer of dirty water and squirt it around, possibly soiling walls and windows. (The picture with the ad for the "deal", possibly unintentionally, shows the preferred manual method. Nonetheless, I assumed that to be the method intended to be used). Notice that it is very likely that much of the wet leaves will never be blown out of the gutter. A partially emptied gutter is not obvious from below. Belligerent attitude. About ten minutes after I sent away the diminutive young man, the owner called. He implied that I did not know what I was talking about, I should not tell him how to do his job, "The manual job is just no good". "If you do not like what I do, I'll give you your money back". Fact: We have lived in this house for 34 years, I cleaned the gutters with regularity, manually ( I had the stuff in my hands, bagged it as I grabbed it), until it became too much of an effort. That's when I switched to professional service in 2012. I intend to shop around among other similar services. The special deal got my attention, but the price is not as important as long as a quality professional job is done.

Gutter cleaning was ok, not great, but fine. Had trouble scheduling during a time when we could be home. We asked for estimate/follow-up regarding replacing some gutters and never heard back.

It went well. I got a quick response to my request for services and, as far as I can tell, the work was done well, and he provided the additional information I requested. There was really no evidence of him having been here. He either didn't come at all or he cleaned up debris very well when he finished cleaning the gutters. I choose to believe the latter. All of our correspondence was done by email. I would have appreciated a note on the door or something to verify that he had actually been here and done the work. If I were inclined to climb a ladder and check the condition of the gutters, I could just as well have figured out a way to clean them myself.

I used the $100 Angie's List offer for gutter cleaning, relying on the fact that the offer came through AL and many people made positive reviews. My experience was not as positive. They were not able to make an appointment with me, but did call shortly before they expected to arrive, which was a time when I was not home. They apparently did the work in a very short time period and left no notice or indication they had been here. My husband was skeptical that they were even here, so he insisted they return - which to their credit they did. This service amounts to someone getting on your roof and using a blower to blow stuff off the gutter troughs. They also blow air down the spouts. If you have heavy wet debris or clogged gutters, your gutters may not actually get cleared. Unfortunately, this probably falls in the category of 'if you want it done right, do it yourself.' Expect to get a sales pitch for replacing your inadequate gutters, as that seems to be the real service offered.

Everything turned out well. The crew showed on time, did a good job with the cleaning, and didn't leave any debris in the yard.

did a great quick job completely cleaning out gutters, left some of the debris/sludge on my deck and limestone gravel though... if he'd cleaned up after himself i'd have given him an A+. even so, I was happy with the quick service and felt $100 was a great price so I didn't mind the cleanup so much.

I have had Gutter Brothers service several times - once for cleaning and another for putting in new gutters for a portion of my home.They work efficiently, clean up and arrive when they say they will. I have their estimate for gutter guards and will be considering this service as time permits. I understand they also do roofing so I will be getting an estimate for that job as well (when budget permits).

The person who came out was very personable and likeable, and we were satisfied with their price and product. It took no time at all for them to do their work and they cleaned up their mess.

When I called, they said they were busy for the next month, but would try to work me in. Three days later they arrived, after calling to make sure it was a good time. There were four people in the crew. They started work as soon as they arrived. They cleaned all the gutters (5 gutters from 5 feet to 100 feet). One was clogged and they had to get a ladder to clear at the elbow (three stories up). One edge of the long gutter had come detached from the house which they fixed. They also fixed a problem where a gutter was not draining into a runoff drain. They were very friendly. Let me know what was going on, and did a complete job. They were also very professional. The job took about an hour, and with 4 people I felt $100 was not enough but they said that was what they had said and would not take more. I feel this is a very good company to work with.

These are good people. They came when they said, appear to have done a high quality job, were very careful not to damage the landscaping or the house, cleaned up nicely, got it all done in one day, and stuck to the original price. I am very pleased.

They were on time and friendly, they performed the work very well and even took the extra steps to clean up after themselves by blowing leaves off of my driveway and porch.

Everything turned out pretty good. Scheduling went well and they were good at keeping the timeline. The work took about an hour to complete.

I bought a groupon for cleaning and they did a great job. I did have a bit of difficulty getting it scheduled, but between them, me and the weather, it took a while to get the job done. I also contracted for a new gutter to be put up on another house and they did that in a timely manner. So if you need gutter work, these guys are fine!

It was wonderful and I didn't spend any more money at all. They were very professional and had easy service. I just sold my house and now I'm living in an apartment here in Overland Park, Kansas so I'm a little bit out of the way but I would definitely use them again if I am in the area.

It went very well. They're very efficient, quick, professional, neat. They left no mess in their work. Work site was completely cleaned up. They were completely prepared. They brought everything with them that they needed to do the job and didn't have to go get anything. Very carefully, they made sure that all of the details were followed exactly for the gutter installation and the instructions for the bid and order placed were carefully followed. The gutter guarantee and warranty were very carefully laid out and what was guaranteed and how much they stood behind their product.
