We moved to St. Louis in January from oversees and were eager to find a contractor to help renovate our new home. We interviewed six top-rated contractors from Angie's list, and after three weeks of interviews and return visits, we chose Stein Design. We couldn't be happier with the experience or the results. All of the work was performed to a high standard, with our satisfaction the clear objective. There are charming details in every room, the result of Stein Design's suggestions and expert execution. These include unique tile work in the bathrooms, cedar lining in the bench/window seats and special woodworking throughout the library. The renovation was well-organized; work progressed on several fronts simultaneously. The workmen are familiar with one another and respectful of one another's skills; they cooperated and collaborated on completing the work successfully. Trey (Stein) kept us informed on a daily basis about the immediate objectives, and progress toward the goal. He was always available to field questions and concerns, visiting our home daily to monitor progress, answer questions and provide input to the crew. The work was performed within the bid. Any additions to the original bid were clearly discussed in advance. Because we lived in our home with our two cats while this large-scale renovation was completed, we saw first hand how the work progressed and the professional demeanor of all of the workmen. Trey and the subcontractors were tireless in their effort to make us comfortable in the midst of the renovation. They were thoughtful about our privacy and left the worksite clean at the end of each day. In addition to their professional expertise, their good humor, collegiality and loyalty to the reputation of Stein Design made these last four months truly enjoyable. Our experience with Trey Stein was extraordinary. He was direct, truthful and responsive. He was caring and thoughtful, beyond any reasonable expectation, and full of determination and goodwill. We love our new/old home. We are grateful to Stein Design for effecting the transformation with skill and professionalism at every level. We recommend Stein Design with enthusiasm.

This is our second time working with this company. They replaced our bathrooms four years ago and we loved their work so much that we decided to use them for the above work without getting competitive bids. We knew from past experience that they were a little higher than some other companies but they were so good that we felt it worth the extra expense. Sam Stein, III(Trey) works by making a firm bid for labor costs including plumbing and electric and then adds allowances in for appliances, flooring, fixtures, etc. The first time we worked with him we chose higher price fixtures than he had allowed for and had increased costs at the end. We asked Trey to bid this time knowing our quality demands and to put in reasonalble allowences for appliances, flooring, and fixtures. He did this and his estimate for these things were right on target and we had no bad price surprises as we went along. The kitchen was designed by Stan Waymire at Kitchen and Bath Design with input from Trey and us. He showed us renderings for several designs, making it easy to reach a final decisions. We chose Shiloh Cabinetry and are very happy with it. The other wholesale vendors that Trey sent us to were also a delight to work with and afforded us many choices. Subcontractors that Trey brought in for plumbing and electric were also personable and competent. The work team of Trey's brother and brother-in law, Andy and Rich, were a delight and we were actually sorry to see them finish and leave. In addition to the contracted work they were helpful in repairing some minor things around the house and did not charge us for these repairs. They were very friendly, highly skilled and cleaned up well. Work was not started until cabinets, fixtures, etc. were delivered and there was not lost work time. Andy and Rich worked straight through until the project was finished and were never pulled off to attend to other projects. Trey's organization and timing could not have been better. He also checked in at least once every day and was always available by phone. We would not hesitate in recommending Stein Design and using them again.

I called Stein Design and was able to leave a message with someone who was covering the calls that day. I received a quick reply from Representative by the name of Trey. He came to my house on time and as promised. He gave a rough estimate on the total cost for a complete remodel on my 10X12 kitchen. I could not utilize the company's services due to the fact that his estimate totally surpassed the high end scale of my budget. However, I thought that Trey conducted himself in a very professional manner. He also gave me some very important tips on chosing the right contractor.

Everything went well! The owner came to my house every morning to check and answered to the questions we had. He sent 2 people for the job and both were very professional. They assembled IKEA kitchen cabinets and installed them. They were very detail-oriented and the quality of their work exceeds our expectations. They made beautiful kitchen space. Also, they cleaned working area everyday. The owner and his people were very nice and easy to work with.

Trey was very easy to work with and did a great job. He was at the job site almost daily. When he wasn't there he was always available by phone. He provided me with names of places to purchase cabinets, fixtures, and flooring. I knew what I wanted, just needed to go pick it out. John was the one who did the work for us. He made the whole remodeling process easy! The bathrooms turned out just as I had hoped...they are beautiful! I would definitely recommend Stein Design to anyone.

We are extremely happy with the results, as well as the professionalism and courtesy of Stein Design. Trey Stein was very responsive and pleasant to deal with. Most of the work was done by his brother Andy and their brother-in-law Rich. Both of these guys were a pleasure to deal with. They kept the place as clean as possible, and cleaned up at the end of each day--even vacuuming the carpeted stairs going up to the bathroom. We had not planned on replacing the old tile floor, but I had noticed there were a few tiles which were loose and asked them to reset them. They discovered that it was more than a few, and said it was likely due to a crack in the underlayment. We decided to replace the floor and, despite the fact that this additional work was not contemplated in the original bid, Trey managed to schedule the work promptly despite a full schedule of other jobs. Overall, they did a great job. The work was completed as promptly as possible, and Trey, Andy and Rich were great to deal with. I would have no hesitation in recommending them. One amusing note: when Trey first came by to look at the job, he said that he had given estimates on hundreds of similar remodels, and that while he could go home and work up a detailed estimate if I wanted, he could tell me right then that it would be $9,000. I had 2 other contractors come in and bid the job. Both provided very detailed estimates, and both were within a couple of hundred dollars of Trey's $9,000 estimate (the floor, some fixture choices and other work increased the total to about $18k).

Wonderfully! Stein Design is fantastic to work with. They deliver what they say they will even under cost. The suppliers they work with have good products and are also very easy to deal with but they also allow you to work with other suppliers if you find a product you like better somewhere else. They just want their customer to be happy with the finished product. Stein Design started the project when they said they would and were finished on schedule. They clean up every day when they are finished and are very cognoscente of your home make every effort not to affect any other portion of the home. The team at Stein Deign are very nice to have around. They are polite and easy to talk to. We miss them now that the project is over but we LOVE out new kitchen!!

Trey and his team did an amazing job on our Master Bath remodel! They do high quality work. They professional and cleaned up before they left each day. We will use them again to remodel secondary baths and kitchen eventually.

Appointment went fine. Mr. Stein is very polite and knowledgable. However, as I said, we received a verbal estimate. We were looking for a written estimate with costs of products and labor clearly stated. This is one of the major reasons we have decided on a different contractor.

Trey from Stein Design was contacted to quote on a major kitchen remodel. Trey was prompt, courteous and professional in his analysis of the project and submitted his bid in a timely fashion. We just got involved in a "friend of a friend" situation and opted to go a different route. I would not hesitate to have Trey quote on your project.

This company did an outstanding job from the first meeting until the job was completed. What I needed was someone to help me with ideas on what to do with my 60's bathroom. Trey Stein gave me many ideas to work from varying on costs. Cannot tell you how much he helped me decide. He gave a very fair estimate that day. I did see other contractors but no one made me feel they were as professional as Stein Design. Most did not give me any idea of the cost after they left. I originally got the first reference for Stein Design from The Tile Shop on Mancester Road. So, I could pick out my tiles, then they picked them up (getting a 10% discount) and brought them to my house. (I also checked them out on Angie's List and all were favorable reviews.) They started my job two weeks later. They estimated 5 days to complete the job and were right on target. Always showed up on time and worked really hard the whole day. They always cleaned up every day. They actually added a few extra things with no charge to me! Their crew was so nice, professional and very pleasant to work with. I really felt like I could trust them. I highly recommend their services to all.

I cannot say enough positive things about Trey Stein and this company. I used Stein design in 2003 to replace siding on our home after a hail storm. I used Stein Design again in March of 2012 to replace to roof on a second house we bought. I used them again in June of 2012 to replace the roof on our primary home after another hail storm. I began using Stein Design in 2003 by recommendation of a neighbor who works in constructtion and knew from experience that the company is reliable and trustworthy. Trey is one of the most patient and helpful professionals I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He helped my wife and I pick out the best color shingles to match our cedar siding. He even drove us around the neighborhood looking at other homes to see if we found a roof that we thought would look good on our home. I've used his brother in the past to do home repair jobs. The entire family is first-rate and a joy to work with. Trey never tried to sell me a product or service I did not need and even went out of his way to suggest alternative options to keep our cost low. I certainly intend to use them again in the future.

He was very great to work with and came up with a lot of good ideas while listening to what we wanted. He was very efficient and provided excellent quality. Everything was great and the bathroom turned out gorgeous. We love it.

We are very happy with them. They did a quality job. They gave great customer service. We had a few things go wrong and they came out and made them right. They went above and beyond.

See previous Report. Excellent work. We were sorry to see the team of Andy and Leah leave. Trey Stein was very easy to work with and very responsive. We had, however, significant cost overruns from the estimate because we chose higher quality cabinets, etc. than had originally been bid. We will use this company in the future.

I would highly recommend them. They are very professional and friendly. They don’t just try to fill you up. Initially their price was a little high but then they matched the price. They have been fantastic.

Went exceptionally well from start to finish, and was our lowest bidder. Trey Stein was prompt in contacting us and was pleasant and professional.

It was a great experience. Tray was very nice and very professional. I would recommend them. I really liked Tray, the way he explained everything and he brought samples too. He was very professional and very prompt. He explained my options.

The quality of the work they did was very good, the installation of the ceiling appeared very complete, and they were always double checking their work. Mr. Stein was here if not every day, every other day. Trey Stein had a lay out and design of the floor plan and the recommendations for our basement for our approval; it was about 80% to our liking. It was nice to see the plan laid out on paper. He had an architect fine tune everything after we figured out what kind of lay out we wanted so we could have an idea what it would look like, which we really appreciated and was a great selling point. The first time we called them and thought they were coming on a specific date; they didn’t show up until two weeks later. I was a little disappointed with their initial responsiveness. Outside of this issue, they usually always showed up on time. They also took care of all the necessary county paper work for the approval for the remodel. They also provided a dumpster to disregard all the older materials. We also had some energy efficiency work done that would save us money on our taxes. But when we made the final payment, nothing was stated on the receipt for this energy efficiency. I called and requested a receipt for the work, which they sent, but the receipt had no invoice number and the receipt itself was not very professional nor was it signed or with a letterhead

Only received a bid; however, they were very professional from the time I called until they answered all my questions around the bid.

I thought that they were very professional. Their price was just a little high. The materials that they wanted to use were not exactly what I was looking for.

I chose them because I they had good ideas. They did a good job and I would recommend them.

We worked with general contractor Sam Stein III (Trey). Actual work was done by the team of Andy Stein (Trey's brother) and Leah. All were wonderful to work with and we were sorry to see them finish. Trey always was available for questions and any issues were quickly addressed and corrected. Work didn't start until all materials were available and then Andy and Leah worked daily until the projects were finished. Other specialists came in as needed. Coordination was perfect. Trey sent us to a plumbing showroom, cabinet show room and brought tile samples. Price quoted included amounts for various fixtures and trims. If we selected upgrades the original price quoted increased or decreased. We always knew the exact amount. Following completion of the project and complete payment, we had several minor issues develop. These were handled promptly and cheerfully. Andy also did a few other small things for us while he was in the house. We had a couple of lower bids but Stein Design wasn't out of line and there is no way of knowing what other companies would have ended up charging. We will certainly use this company again.

The principal came out to give me an estimate on my bathroom gut and remodel (was definitely reponsive to my initial inquiry). From the moment he arrived, I didn't have a good feeling. Frankly, throughout the appointment, he seemed rather pompous. Gave my bathroom a quick scan and said it would cost around $27,000 (for a 6'x8' bath remodel). Wouldn't give me a written bid until I committed to the work (so no way to compare bids and their elements). Needless to say, he and his firm weren't considered when I made a final choice of contractors. Project was completed by another firm for about $22,000 including all materials they and I provided (which I also think was too much money for the size of the job and was not the cheapest bidder...but they did an OUTSTANDING job).
