On 6/25/2013 (member name removed) called Quality Heating & Air Services and reported that the air conditioning at her residents was not cooling. The following day 6/26/2014 a Quality Heating technician arrived at her home and used his gauges and found that the system was empty of refrigerant, he then proceeded to use an electronic refrigerant detector and found leaks in the evaporator coil (A-Coil). The home owner was informed of the problem given a proposal which she accepted on the repair of the system. On 6/27/2013: A Quality Heating technician returned to (member name removed) home and performed the agreed to repair. He completed the evaporator replacement, then pressurized the system to check for leaks and when none were found, he charged and tested the system which was working correctly. This replacement evaporator Coil has a 10 year warranty against manufactures defects and Quality Heating has a one year labor warranty. 7/7/2013: A Quality Heating technician returned when (member name removed) reported that the system was not cooling. He pressurized the system and using his electronic refrigerant detector found NO leaks at the evaporator coil, but did find that the valve cores were loose, so he replaced both valves and charged and checked the system and found no leaks. There was no charge for this service. 7/11/2013: A Quality Heating technician returned when (member name removed)reported that the system was not cooling. He pressurized the system and using his electronic refrigerant detector found NO leaks at the evaporator coil, but did find a leak at the outdoor condensing coil, he brazed the leak, pressurized, and charged the system with refrigerant he then checked the system for leaks, none were found. Once again there was no charge for this service. 6/2/14: A Quality Heating technician returned when (member name removed) reported that the system was not cooling. He pressurized the system and using his electronic refrigerant detector found NO leaks at the evaporator coil, or condenser coil. Technician did notice that the line set that carries the refrigerant inside of the house runs into a pipe and below the grade (picture attached) , he check the pipe with his meter and detected refrigerant present at the line set, which is not accessible. He also noticed that other line sets in the development (picture attached) had been changed and had been rerouted up the side of the townhome and into the house, therefore eliminating the below grade issue. He then informed (member name removed) that a quote to replace this line would be sent to her and gave a ball park estimate of the cost. The information was returned to the office were the time and material for an estimate were put together and sent to (member name removed), she never responded to our quote. The next time we heard from (member name removed) was a complaint form from Angie’s List. She stated that a different company came in and said the coil was bad and there was water at the coil. If the evaporator coil was defective (we found no leak present when we were there) there was a 10 year warranty on it and the company that removed and replaced it could had the coil replaced under warranty. If (member name removed) ran the system when it was low on refrigerant it could have frozen the coil and it could have caused a leak. One of the natural byproducts of the air conditioning system is it creates water from condensation at the evaporator coil that is why all systems have drain hoses, if the drain became plugged it could cause the water to over flow and there would be water at the furnace. Also if the coil did become frozen from either running it while it was low on refrigerant or if the filter was dirty and caused low air flow it could also cause a great deal of water to form which would over flow the small catch pan under the coil. We fully stand behind that our work was properly diagnosed and correctly performed, the additional issues (which we did not charge her for) were not connected to the original replacement of the evaporator coil and we believe not such that it would cause the refrigerant to leak out as fast as it did and there for is why we firmly believe that the leaks in the line set that goes under grade are the problem. We also have issue with the fact that we were not informed from July 11, 2013 until June 2, 2014 that there was any problem with the system not cooling, and therefore believe the systems was operating properly and only after an amount of time did the refrigerant finally leak out from the line set and caused the no cooling situation.Service Provider Response
Hi (member name removed), We are sorry that you were not satisfied with your experience, we strive to make improvements here at Quality Heating and appreciate your feedback. During the first heat wave of the summer it is always difficult to know our technicians exact schedules, we get very busy and some appointments run over their time. We want to give our customers our full attention at appointments and it is sometimes inconvenient to the next customer in line. Our technicians always make a call to alert the next customer when they are on their way. We understand that not everyone works where they can leave and needs to take time off, but unfortunately this is how the process has to be for our line of business. We were in the process of learning a new software dealing with our quotes and are very sorry that you experienced our services while we were working out the kinks. We hope you can relate that learning a whole new process can be tricky and we have learned from our mistakes and continue to try and improve our relationships with our customers to make it easier and more convenient to get a quote on services and products. Again, thank you for your feedback and we hope that you will give us the chance to improve your opinion on our business with your next heating/cooling need. Sincerely, Quality Heating & Air Services, Inc.Service Provider Response
Dear [member name removed], Thank you for your review. We are fairly new to Angie's list and are learning the processes as we go. The appointment was made on Angie's list during the extreme heat wave and high humidity levels, which in turn created extremely heavywork loads for techs and office personnel. The appointment on Angie's list was mistakenly not synchronized with our office's appointment schedule. We apologize for the oversight on the appointment. We hope you understand that we are learning this technology but it in no way represents our HVAC knowledge and procedures. Thanks, Quality Heating & Air Services, Inc.We sell different.
