Boehm Heating & Air Conditioning

I was persistent with them because I really thought they were just about the only game in town for high-velocity A/C (that's the style of A/C with small tubes that you see on walls and ceilings, instead of the grate-like rectangles). I finally contacted the manufacturer, SpacePak, who put me in touch with the local distributor to get the names of other contractors in the area, but I was dismayed by how Tom, Jr. spoke of his competition in such negative ways. While I understand his intent was to promote the quality of his own work, none of the other contractors I spoke with offered such bad-mouthing techniques to do so, and it really is completely unnecessary. I hope they have ceased that practice by now.

Everyone at Boehm is great! Tom Sr. was really honest about our future needs for duct work when he cam to do the bid, honesty which we appreciated. The two fellows who came to do the work were so friendly, on-time and did the work with excellent craftsmanship! And even better the final price for the job came in under the original bid price!

Overall, the work went well. During the two-day installation process (there was a lot to install), there was some minor miscommunication that could have been avoided if Boehm had given us a clearer description of where the vent pipes were going to go, etc. However, they were responsive when we asked them to alter there plans a little during the installation. Another frustration is that Boehm did not coordinate the scheduling of the city inspectors like, according to the city of Saint Paul, contractors typically do. This has led to us having to take time off of work on more than one occasion to let in the inspectors. That being said, I would hire Boehm again given the service for the price. They definitely do not try to up-sell you on things you may not need like some other contractors do.

We first called during a busy season, and they let us know that it would be a couple months before they could do any of the work. We proceeded to get other bids and estimates. When the work was done, it was done within the time frame of our basement remodeling. The son of the owner, Tom Boehm Jr. was our main contact throughout the project. He visited on a number of occasions to talk to us about the project. He clearly explained the work to be done and our options, and answered all of our questions. We decided to wait until the basement remodeling was almost complete (all but the flooring) to install the new furnace to prevent Sheetrock dust from damaging it. They not only did the work on the original bid, but even were able to rework some old ducts to allow more clearance in the mechanical room.

They worked very well with our contractor. They had to come back many times during the construction process. The work was done as needed, and very nicely done.

Tom was great! He was especially patient, as I just missed him for our first appointment when an emergency prevented me from leaving the hospital where I work on time. He returned a second time, was thorough in his explanations, answered all my questions, gave me helpful advice. In the end, my overall remodeling project got so expensive that I opted not to replace the A/C at this time, but I would not hesitate to go with Boehm when ready.

Tom promptly responded to my call asking for a quote and made an appointment for the next day. He arrived on time, spent enough time to understand the problem and made reasonable suggestions before quoting. The quote arrived in the mail quickly. The price was very good but I was not comfortable with the available equipment brands. I chose another company.

Everything went very well, from quotation to project completion. I had several companies out to give a quote. Boehm was one of 2 that I felt very comfortable with that they spent a bit of time to understand what needed to be done and gas lines and air ducts were confusing and hard to determine and therefore give an accurate quote. Boehm was also the best price, we had a couple quotes in the $8000-$11,000 range! The work was done in a professional, responsible manner according to our agreement. When the installation was complete, they brought to my attention that one of the water heaters had a small leak. In their tests, they determined it was the heater itself, and they would have to contact the manufacturer itself to get a replacement. Although I ended up having to call them about 5 days later to see when they would replace the defective unit, it was taken care of shortly after. The city inspector confirmed my feelings about the job saying ''Boehm always does good work.''

Tom Jr. was very prompt for the estimate. However, it took about a week to actually receive the estimate. Once we decided to use them for the duct work we had problems on several occasions getting Tom Jr. to call us back and actually schedule a time to come and do the estimate for materials as well as to schedule someone to perform the work. The person who actually did the installation was on time and did a great job. However, we would not use this company again because of the constant run-around we received.

We talked about several units and how those works. He was very informative. He was the nicest person and so helpful. We decided to hold off on that project though. I will be calling him in the future.

Subcontractor (asbestos abatement) removed old boiler and all debris. Boehm installed the new boiler with all necessary fittings and supplied owner's documentation for the unit.

Is there a triple A+? Amazing people to work with. Our AC was not working well July 4th. By that weekend not working much at all . Remember the heat wave? Contacted Boehm. Tom, Jr. came out. They had a new complete system up and running day before the heat wave. He is so knowledgeable! Office staff, techs (Mark, Jack), everyone just A+. I can't say enough good things. Everything went so smoothly, clean, fast, professional installation. Our house is so quiet now, cool air in all rooms equally (system and two new return air ducts). Built 20 years ago and never have had this even air, quiet operation. Can keep the thermostat at 78, feels cooler in all areas of home and so quiet. Boehm is the best. If in the future we build or childrens homes need a new system it will be with Boehm. We are so confident with their expertise. A very good experience for something most people dread having happen/done. They made it a piece of cake!

It was an excellent experience. The company installed the next day on time. Work was done well. The price was very competitive.

Excellent service. When I called they were very friendly and helpful. They came out the next day. They called me to let me know what time he'd be at my house so I could come home from work. I felt they they were very thorough. They fixed the problem and gave me advice on keeping my system running well.

The service overall was great. They were fast, helpful, and very knowledgeable. The only problem was that one worker (a newer guy) cut our cable for satellite TV and we did not know until they were gone... we had no TV for the evening. That was disappointing. But, they came out 1st thing the next morning and fixed it.

They refused to come out and look at my air-conditioner, because I am not a "current customer." Then the receptionist called back and tried to explain that, because my AC is added to a radiator heated house, it was too hot for them to work on the attic portion of the unit. Because, they are unwilling to come out and look at the job they can't see that the attic is not "too hot" to work in. What I couldn't make her understand is that the attic is finished space and is currently cooled by a portable unit. It's the central unit that has failed. Apparently they are doing quite well, as it is clear they don't want or need my business. This feels like red-lining to me.

ONCE THEY'D INSTALLED THEIR SYSTEM THEY WERE RUDE AND SNIDE WHEN I CALLED FOR HELP WITH IT. THIS WEEK I ASKED THEM TO LOOK AT MY CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING. I UNDERSTAND THAT FOLLOWING A HEAT WAVE THEY ARE SWAMPED WITH CALLS. I WOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD IF THEY'D POLITELY SAID THAT THEY WERE VERY BUSY AND IT WOULD BE AWHILE. INSTEAD THEY WERE SURLY: 'I'LL JUST HAVE TO PUT YOU ON THE LIST.'' ME: 'OKAY WHAT'S THE LIST?'' HIM: (ANNOYED) ''IT'S THE LIST!'' ME: ''WHEN WILL YOU GET TO ME?'' HIM: (SURLY) ''I HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE'' AT THIS POINT I BLEW UP. I FELT THE TONE OF SURLINESS WAS UNCALLED FOR. AGAIN LET ME SAY THAT I UNDERSTAND IF YOU'ER SWAMPED, BUT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE CALLED. I CALLED LAST FALL ABOUT MY BOILER, AND IN EACH CASE THEY HAVE BEEN SNIDE OR SURLY, AND READY TO ARGUE AT THE DROP OF A HAT. ANYTHING THEY HAD TO SAY TO ME THEY COULD HAVE JUST AS EASILY SAID POLITELY, ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE SPENT $4500. WITH THEM. I WILL NEVER USE BOEHM AGAIN.

I called to request an estimate for a SpacePak air conditioning unit. A time was set up for someone to come to our house. Then I received a phone call back from Amanda, saying they couldn't do the estimate this time of year as it gets too hot in the attic to do work up there, which I completely understand. She was haughty and unprofessional (rude in my opinion) and didn't seem to care whether we ever called the company back. I am not someone who ever complains about things; this is the first negative report I've written. I even called the owner to discuss my encounter so that he's aware what a negative impact one employee can make, but, honestly, he didn't seem to really care. He listened to what I had to say and said ''thanks for calling.'' Based on this encounter, I would not call this company again, which is unfortunate since they've gotten high marks for their workmanship

The serviceman was professional and efficient. He answered all my questions, gave me a realistic prognosis on the boiler's future, and told me what to look for in terms of its behavior. Also, instead of automatically draining the expansion tank (which would have taken more time and cost more money), he judged that it was not necessary. I will definitely use Boehm in the future.

Tom made special arrangements to see me after normal hours to do the estimate due to my work schedule. He recommended the lower priced model and really took the time to answer my questions. The installation went very smoothly, and they left my basement cleaner than when they arrived.

Jeff was very personable and made me feel like I was his only customer. He and his father performed the worked in a couple of days. They didn't make ANY holes in the ceilings that needed repairing, plus, they cleaned up after themselves every day (used my vacuum). They also provided expert advice on other projects going on in my home. Great experience!

Very service oriented and very pleasant to deal with. These folks clearly want to keep you as their customer. I would highly recommend them to others. I can't speak to price competitiveness because I did not get other on-site estimates, but the cost was in line with rough estimates I had gathered from others.

Tom Boehm, Sr., came out to do the estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable and tended to steer us towards the less expensive, lower technology heating and cooling options with the reasoning that our house was older and its duct work was never designed for a fine-tuned dual stage type unit. We ended up with a Maytag replacement A/C and high efficiency gas furnace combination with 10 year warranty. It has been in service for four months with no problems. The furnace heating is more even throughout the house than it was before. Mr. Boehm also recommended that since we have a high efficiency furnace, with little air loss, that a humidifier would not be necessary and sure enough, we have condensation on our windows at times, so that saved us several hundred dollars. Their installers did the demolition of our old unit and installation of new in one day using drop cloths everywhere they walked, and they were very courteous and efficient. We would recommend Boehm to anyone.

Terrible. This is not the way to get business. We are a young couple, and our furnace is not going anywhere anytime soon. Yet, by refusing to come help us on a cold winter night, they showed a severe lack of customer service and forward thinking. We were a prime opportunity for them to pick up long term business, and instead they suggested we sleep with no heat and call back another time.
