+ -1 moreJeff is great - he clearly understands at a deep level how the entire heating system operates (he's not just hooking up pipes). He took the time to explain the options for our new boiler, and to share his advice based on his family's 3 generations of work in this business. Several other companies that I got estimates from sent out a salesman in a tie, someone who obviously had never actually worked on boilers before and only knew the talking points from the brochures. It was obvious at every step in the process that Jeff is not afraid to get his hands dirty, that he actually does this work and knows it like the back of his hand. Also, his price was lower than several other estimates I got.
Description of Work: Removed old boiler and installed new one, including plumbing, etc. When a part failed a few months after installation, Jeff came out immediately and replaced it without charging anything.

+ -1 moreWe were new to boiler systems having come from forced air heating systems, so we had them check out the condition of our boiler and teach us about it at the same time. They were good about explaining the system and they checked out the boiler. The boiler was in great working condition, however the overflow tank was too full of water (which they didn't check nor did we) and the first time we turned the heat up in the house water overflow blew and wouldn't reseal. They had to come back to switch out the overflow protector. They were good about coming right away, however we were a little frustrated that that had happened being that they were just here and checked over the boiler.
Description of Work: Had them do a service check on a boiler and replace a overflow protector.

Description of Work: I have a triplex that needs to be brought up to code. I wanted to keep it local, so I e-mailed Boehm. Didn't hear back. I called and left a message. Didn't hear back. Finally, received an e-mail response 9 days after my first contact.

They have many years of experience which shows through in the high quality of work they do. They are great to work with and charge a reasonable price.

+ -1 moreTom Boehm Sr. came for the initial consultation and wrote-up the proposal. I respect his years of experience, but he tended to be patronizing and non-responsive to our questions, telling us what to do rather than asking us what we wanted done. He stretched the project out over many months, when it could have been done more quickly, resulting in delays to other parts of the remodeling project. Our general contractor was even more frustrated dealing with him than I was. On the other hand, Dave, the guy who actually did the installation, was great. His work was excellent. But Tom, in my view, mismanaged his time, resulting in multiple trips and delays, when it should have been done more efficiently. If you hired Boehm, be sure Tom Sr. isn't in charge of your project.
Description of Work: Removed old boiler, including asbestos abatement, installed new one; installed 6 used radiators, two of them baseboards; ran heat up to third floor; replaced galvanized pipes with PEX.

+ -1 moreBoehm responded quickly (same day), diagnosed and fixed the problem quickly, and gave me a full explanation of what caused the problem. I always appreciate that. In addition, he did a quick inspection of the furnace and gave me a summary of its condition including a couple of items to address the next time I do an inspection and tune-up. Quick, thorough, effective service, at a reasonable price, plus concise information with a courteous and professional attitude. Don't really know what more you could ask for.
Description of Work: The furnace was cycling but the burners would not stay on. Problem was quickly diagnosed, quickly fixed, and for a very reasonable price. The nitrous oxide screens had warped and were causing the flame sensor to short out. The screens were bent back, the burners cleaned, and the flame sensor replaced.

+ -1 moreIt was 11 degrees below, and I noticed the house was getting chilly. The thermostat read 63 degrees. I went to check on the furnace, and smelled something burning. The furnace did not kick on, or turn out any heat. I called Boehm at 3:30 in the afternoon. Within an hour, a service man arrived. He immediately knew that my fan motor had konked out. He told me the ball park price to replace it, and said if he didn't have one in the truck, he would go back to the shop, get one and return. He returned within 15 minutes, replaced the motor, and got the heat back on. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, professional and prompt. That night it got down to 23 below, but we were fine. From the moment I called about the problem, and from the time it was fixed, was about 2 hours!

He understands older homes and is willing to educate you on how to adjust your vent baffle to create the heating and cooling you want.

+ -1 moreWe returned home at 6:30 PM to a cold house in 3 degree weather. I called Boehm and got a return phone call within 10 minutes. After talking to Tom Jr. about the problem he said he would send a service person to fix the boiler. Jerry arrived within an hour. He quickly found the problem and showed me the part that failed (the igniter). Since their initial charge is for one hour, he offered to do some standard maintenance to the boiler in the remaining time. Once he was done he summarized what he did, and charged me for one hour labor and the replacement igniter. Overall, I'm very happy with the result and highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: Jerry repaired our 20 year old boiler that had suddenly stopped working. The repair required replacing the igniter. He also cleaned the flame sensor and burners, oiled the inducer motor and pump, added water to the system, and ran the system to make sure everything worked ok.

+ -1 moreIt's been almost a year and we've had no issues with the new furnace. I enjoy having a heated bathroom, which we didn't have before! I also really appreciate that they were so patient with our cats. Tom Boehm spent a lot of time with us to make sure we understood what would happen and answered all our questions. He provided a contract that detailed all the work to be done, which helped quite a bit when we went over things upon completion.
Description of Work: Last February our 117-yr old gravity furnace started acting up. The colder it got, the more likely it was that it wouldn't fire up. So we called one heating company off Angie's List and the person they sent said it was too old to work on and we'd need a new furnace. So, we called Boehm and Tom Boehm came out and explained how our furnace worked and what was wrong with it. He showed us how we could get it started if it wouldn't start on its own. He also recommended that it be replaced. Since he didn't "leave us in the cold" like the other company had, we decided to go with Boehm to replace the furnace. The cost included removal of all asbestos, old ductwork and the old cast iron furnace. Boehm then brought in a new Amana furnace and put in all new ductwork. His employees were professional and quick. In one day they were able to remove the old furnace and get the new furnace in and enough ductwork to heat the house to keep anything from freezing! They came back the next day and finished

He sent us a Thank You card after we paid our bill which I thought was a nice touch. He was trustworthy, and I didn't feel worried at all leaving him in the house. He came back and forth while we are out of town and my dad was here letting our dogs out and he thought he was really nice too. Our heat is working wonderfully now.

+ -1 moreThey installed the wrong type of chimney liner and installed it in a faulty manor. This caused water to get into our home. When they finally admitted to the fault, they attempted to remove the liner but left a piece in the chimney. We had to hire another company remove the piece of liner and a 3rd company to install a new one. His attitude was "it's your fault, you deal with it" It was a terrible experience. They did finally reimburse us for the chimney liner. I would never hire them again!

He was happy to answer my questions, and provide me with information about the furnace (this was the first serving we had done since we bought the house).

+ -1 moreGreat! We were up all night calling companies that supposedly offered 24 hour emergency service and were called back promptly by this company and none others. We have 2 small kids and our house was about 50 degrees by the time he came out (about an hour and a half from when we called, again, on a Sunday morning) so we were thrilled to see anyone. He was friendly, worked with my husband and showed him a few things about the boiler and gave us some information on what we will eventually have to do to replace the unit. He fixed it fast and ultimately charged us less for the entire call, labor and parts included, than a different company was going to charge us just to come to our house! (I was able to compare when the other company finally called me back!) We will definitely call them again.

+ -1 moreTheir quality is outstanding. Jim Boehm has been doing this for a number of years. It's a family business. His son also works in this business. They do excellent quality work. They are one of the best vendors of any service I've ever worked with. They know their business and hot water heat repair is kind of a dying art. They stand behind their work.
Description of Work: They've done several things for us. They specialize in hot water heating systems. We have used them to install a new hot water heat boiler and to repair existing hot water heat radiators and connections of radiators to hot water pipes.
