I mentioned that we were considering replacing the garage door opener and asked for a quote. They quoted a price but told us that we didn't need to replace the opener. + -1 moreWas told that we were the first appt of the day and that tech would be here about 8. I was not given a service window when I made the appt. so when we hadn't seen anyone by 8:30, I was really frustrated and called. Only then was I told that our window was between 8-9 and that someone should be there shortly. Service window would have been just fine, but since that expectation wasn't set, we weren't very happy at the beginning. Tech finally showed up about 8:45. He did the work that we had requested. Replacing the springs took longer than usual because of how the door was installed. Other door was maintained and adjusted to perform better as part of it had been rubbing on a portion of the mechanism as it raised/lowered. We were pleased that he took the initiative to do that for us. Aside from the over site in neglecting to say we had a service window, we were happy with the experience.
Description of Work: A spring broke on our garage door. We had that fixed and decided to have the routine maintenance done on our other door since they were making the trip out.

+ -1 moreThey were friendly and prompt the problem was with the bill and payment. The first frustration was that over the phone on 2/25 when I made the appointment Tim told me a cost of $60.00 for the rollers if they needed to be replaced. The next day when Mark is there he tells me the price went up that day to $70.00 I understand prices go up, but communicate that before the job starts. Tim should of told Mark what he quoted me over the phone. The repairman originally put $169.00 for the amount due when it should of been $269.00 less the 10% angieslist discount. I brought this to his attention and wrote a check for $252.00, after he left I realized he gave us the 10% of the $169 not the $269 so I called him and he didn't want to come back. He asked me to call the office and pay with a credit card and when he got back in he would shred the check. I followed his instructions and of course they charged my credit card immediately but didn't email me any kind of receipt like they said they would. It was not communicated to me that the repairman would not be in the office until Wednesday, March 5th. I'm very disappointed in their communication and follow through. I talked to Tim twice and the owner Dean once and yet I haven't received an email with the credit card receipt. We are happy that our garaage door is fixed but feel that the repairman should of come back so I could have just given him a new check.

+ -1 moreI called The Garage Door Guy around 8:30 Friday morning when my garage door would not open after closing wonky. (the garage door was at an angle, with one side almost touching the ground, and the other a foot or two off the ground, with a cable hanging in front of the door). I left a voicemail, and received a call back very quickly. I got an estimate over the phone, and made an appointment for between 10am and noon the next day (Saturday). The repair person arrived within that time window, was very courteous, and minimized the number of trips he had to make through the house to get to the inside of the garage (thus not tracking snow everywhere -- this attention to detail was greatly appreciated). He was able to diagnose the problem and fixed it quickly. He then recommended replacing the rollers (saying they would be the next thing to break) and did that quickly as well. I used an Angie's List coupon (10% off) (they said "We love Angie's List" when I told them about how I found them over the phone), and they accepted it with no fuss. I am very pleased with the service I received, and would call them again or recommend them to anyone needing garage door work done.

+ -1 moreThey researched the make and model that had originally been installed >5years ago to determine an exact match. Replaced the damaged panels with perfectly matched ones. We had some rusted hardware (rollers) that I asked them about and they contacted the manufacturer to see if it was covered under warranty. Not under warranty unfortunately, but they gave me a very reasonable price on replacing them at the same time as the panel work. On time and professional. The installtion of the panels and replacement hardware quality was great. This is the third time I have used them for both repair and replacement jobs. It has been a great experience each time.
Description of Work: Had damage to several panels and asked them to replace the individual panels vice the whole doors. Quotes provided for both options.

+ -1 moreAll in all, a great experience with this company, and they'll be the first ones I call for future garage door repairs.
Description of Work: I had scheduled an appointment with a different company, and they completely stood me up, which led me to try Garage Door Guy. Ironically, they had to reschedule my first appointment because the technician had some sort of emergency that prevented him from coming. But they called me immediately, about 30 minutes before my appointment window, and we rescheduled, and I was able to go into work without any lost time. That's how you handle that type of situation professionally. The technician that came for the rescheduled appointment was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was bitterly cold out, but he didn't complain at all. I really appreciated that he talked through all of the possible causes of my problem (the garage door wouldn't close via the car remote, only by holding the main switch down from inside the garage). We discussed the likelihood, cost, and effort to repair each cause. He clearly wasn't trying to sell me on the most expensive repair first. And as it happened, the problem was the sensors, which was what he suspected, and what he fixed first. It's been about a month now and everything is working just fine. The other thing I'll mention is that I was accidentally charged twice for the repair. The technician had some trouble with the card swiper, and had to reswipe it a couple times. Apparently one of the swipes took, but the app on his phone didn't tell him. I called them when I saw the double charge on my credit card statement, and it was no hassle to reverse the second charge.

Once he looked at my door, he knew exactly what was wrong, confirmed he had the parts in his truck and gave me a fair price. He repaired it in no time. Showed me the damaged parts and told me how it got that way. Found out when garage door was installed, the springs correctly and it was putting too much force on the opener. He went and adjusted everything for me so I should get several years of trouble free use.

The 2 beams on the garage door came out of alignment, his solution to that was replacing both springs for $200 more, along with $60 for the rollers. My main complaint now is that, I wish they would have told me the springs were more important than the rollers. I told them the visit was a little pricier than expected.
Description of Work: What I asked to have done was replace the seal on the garage door and he suggested a general check up.
