Conrad Hansen Painting & Decorating

This was an Angie's List Big Deal for 8 hours of wallpaper removal and wall prep for painting. Mr. Hansen said he usually had an assistant, and they would finish in 4 hours, but this day he didn't have the assistant available so he planned on working the full 8 hours. The job (removing wallpaper from the Kitchen) went quicker than expected, and even with a lunch break he was finished quite early. We had a crack in the plaster ceiling of the kitchen, so he included that in the deal. He did good work and didn't try to charge us for any extras. We decided to paint the kitchen ourselves, so we didn't hire him for that.

The employee who came worked really hard and did get the job done in a little over the time allowed. Our problem was that he did not use any drop cloths in the removal. I did finally offer to get one of ours out to put down as I was getting concerned. If you have ever removed wallpaper you can only imagine the amount of water/chemical that had dripped into the carpet edging. There was also a few gluey spots that have never been able to be removed in our hall and steps. When we called to discuss he did offer to pay for any of the carpet cleaning. We were in the middle of other projects and did not follow up with him. The $200 was fair for the amount of work he did and did not want to short him for all the labor. Having workers in your house and having them take care of your carpets/floors etc when working etc is important to us.

He did a good job. We were happy with him. We had him come back and give us a quote on the painting and he came and painted after he took the wallpaper off.

Called to make an appointment and two showed up on time. I was interested only in wallpaper removal so they did just that. Fast and great results.

He arrived on time, worked efficiently all day, and completed more than expected.

Arrived as scheduled. Removal of old wallpaper was not easy but they worked steadily until the job was completed. Cleaned up area upon completion. Decided it would be best to paint over old wallpaper on drywall in basement bathroom (primed then painted).

The project went very well. Conrad and his partner worked on a Friday and Saturday (we were not home) to finish the project. They fixed the molding I had installed and did a great job painting. We only had one small problem and the professionalism with which it was resolved really impressed me. My wife and I were out of town the day the painting was finished. We noticed that the painters had accidentally scratched the wall when moving a bookshelf back into the room. I called Conrad and he came back out to fix it without any hassle. Not only did he fix the scratch but he repainted the entire wall section so it would look uniform. The room looks great and we are very satisfied customers!

It was a great experience. Everything went as discussed and was completed on schedule.

Overall, I would never use them again based on the service they provided indicated previously.

The contractor had an assistant who did the work. He was polite but took frequent smoke breaks and spilled a pail of water during the job. The contractor spoke very unkindly to the assistant. Overall, I don't think they did a very good job removing the glue off the walls.

It went really well. I had expected it to take all week, but they were done in three days. The wallpaper removal went very fast and they got started painting by the second day. The walls look wonderful and the crew was very friendly and easy to work with. They all were careful with their work and with the clean up.

We had a new home built a year ago. After they completed the one year walk through, we wanted to repaint as the builders paint that was used marked easily and we were looking at changing the colors. Conrad came to do an estimate and explained what the price included. Although the price was a bit higher than the other bid, we went with Conrad because he was very knowledgeable and we felt comfortable having him in our home. We hired Conrad to paint two bathrooms, an office, and the entryway/kitchen/living room of our home. We had originally set up the date for Conrad and his brother to come. Just previous to the day they were to come, Conrad called and said something came up and that he wouldn't be able to come as planned. He offered us our down payment back or an additional discount if we waited. We weren't in a hurry to get the work done, so we said we'd wait -- this added approximately a month to our overall start date. Approximately two weeks later, Conrad called and said he had time to come out and start. We stated that it didn't all need to be done at once, but if he could come as time allowed that would be fine with us. Conrad came out the next day and completed our bathrooms. Conrad and his brother than came out the following day to do the rest of our home. Since they did come out sooner than the original date, he asked if we'd be okay paying the original amount verses the additional discount. This would have been nice for him to talk with us about before the job was completed as we probably would have just waited the extra two weeks, but we did appreciate having the work completed and agreed to pay the original amount. Upon them finishing up, we had a few areas that needed touch up. Conrad was out of town and his brother came to finish this up with no questions asked. It was great to know that the work was going to be completed. After the first follow up, we had one more area that needed to be fixed. Conrad came out and completed this and apologized. He explained that they will fix it until its right and that's what they've done. I'm giving an overall rating of a "B" right now only for the reason that we aren't fully satisfied with the paint. We expressed our disappointment with the paint we had before because it marked up very easily. Conrad assured us that the paint he used wouldn't do that and that all his customers have been satisfied with it. The wall marked easily, in which Conrad came to touch up these areas. The bathrooms were completed in a low sheen and you can see the water drips on the wall after just a short period of time. I talked with Conrad about this and he stated they would call to come and fix this when they had more time in their schedule. I do believe they will do this, however until they do I'm going with a rating of B. Still great work was completed and the follow up has been great.

Generally, we were very pleased with the experience. We'd scheduled the initial wallpaper removal well in advance. Conrad called to confirm the weekend before our scheduled day. Ricky, Conrad's brother, showed up on time, worked very hard, and explained exactly what he was doing and what he was seeing as he did the work. Getting the estimate for the additional work didn't go quite as smoothly, as Conrad missed our appointment. He made up for that because when he did come out for the estimate he also gave us some advice about refinishing our porch. When Conrad came to provide the estimate, he indicated that he could have someone out as early as the next day to start, if we'd like. When we called the next day to say we wanted to move forward with the work and give him our paint color choice, he had to postpone the start of our work for three or more weeks, as he'd become so busy. In the end, he did work us into his schedule, which we really appreciated. Conrad sent Chad to do the job. Chad was late the first day, but very prompt the second and third. He was extremely thorough in his work. He was willing to explain what he was doing at each step and he cleaned up after the job was complete. The room looks great. We'd hire Conrad Hanson Painting and Chad for future work.

Conrad and his brother came and went right to work.They had a lot of patching and fixing of a bad taping job. They also had to re-float part of a wall that had texture on it previously. That all took a lot of time. they put a prime coat on all the patches and then painted two coats, re patching in between. They found ALL the imperfections. Everything turned out beautifully. Thank you Conrad. Since the original review we have had Conrad out to paint 3 bathrooms. This work included patching lots of holes from previous owners and hardware installations and fixing a poor paint job by another professional painter. As expected, everything went smoothly and we are very happy with the work. I have and will continue to recommend Conrad to my friends.

We purchased a Big Deal for wallpaper removal and then obtained a quote for painting our first and second floor corridors, stairwell, and two bathrooms. One of the bathrooms needed to have finishing of mudding done. Conrad and his crew was very punctual, job site was kept clean, and the job quality was high. After they were done we found a couple of spots that we didn't like and it took just one call to get Conrad back to fix them. Overall it was a very good experience for us.

Conrad gave a thorough estimate, describing what he thought caused the problem and how he would fix it. He arrived promptly on the scheduled day, protected my furniture and walls and did the job as he had outlined. My ceiling presented some challenges, which he tackled. The result is beautiful and there was no mess left for me to clean!

I highly recommend Conrad. He came to remove the wallpaper but did such a good job, I also had him remove the popcorn ceiling, do some drywall repair and paint. Conrad is very reliable and was very accommodating to my iratic work schedule. He is very professional and has a lot of knowledge of different products and methods. I always thought painting was a "do it yourself" job, but there is a significant difference between a DYI and painting by Conrad! I am also going to have him paint my soffits, stain my house and decks this summer.

I am in the midst of a major up-date on my house and when the time comes to do more painting I will be calling on Conrad again. He is the kind of person who believes that only a job well done is a job worth doing!!!

I had originally bought the big deal for wall paper removal for $200. I wasn't quite sure if my project fell within the "fine print" of the coupon as my primary need was preparing the stairway wall that was higher than specified on the coupon. I had a little trouble getting scheduled, but after some phone tag I scheduled the work. This was the reason I slightly downgraded responsiveness. I was origally told that Conrad was scheduling out into April, but I was able to get the work done in March. On the first day, I thought he was coming to actually begin work, but it was more an assessment of the project, sort of like an estimate, except he sized up the job, but I didn't get an estimate at the time. This may have been because it wasn't a standard job falling within the "big deal" parameters and there was extra work that I wanted done, primarily painting. He did start work the next day. The wall turned out to be more problematic than either of us knew. After getting the wall "prepped" for painting, it bubbled and he had to repair all the bubbles, redoing much of the wall. He and his crew (primarily his brother) did everything necessary to get the wall done right. He didn't cut corners and took care to minimize dust and do a good job on the clean up. He was flexible in working around the schedule of another contractor when the stairway work wound up taking several days. In the end, I was happy with the way the walls turned out. The price was fair, but not cheap.Conrad explained what all he was doing, or going to do, and why. He gave me tips on wallpaper removal and painting that would be helpful in working on some of the redecorating that I might be trying to do myself in the future. Also, I was comfortable going to work and leaving Conrad and his crew in the house.

Conrad and his son did great work. It had been a long time since the walls had been painted and they need quite a bit of patching. In addition, part of the ceiling had very bad Sheetrock joints. Conrad said they'd try to improve them prior to painting. They went above and beyond my expectations, patching and sanding until the joints disappeared. The panting was very well done, and the new carpet was perfectly protected. I'd definitely recommend Conrad.

The finished walls look awesome! Conrad was prompt, effecient, and exceeded our expectations. The job was completed exactly as contracted.I would highly recommend Conrad to family and friends.

Conrad and his partner showed up as scheduled and worked very quickly & efficiently. They did an excellent job of removing our old wallpaper & they also insured the work area was cleaned after the job was complete. My wife and I hired them to come back and paint the kitchen and main entrance. They did an excellent job painting these areas as well. I would recommend Conrad without hesitation.

They removed the wallpaper (alot of work!), sealed the areas where the wallpaper came off and took the drywall with it, and then did two coats of filler. sanding after both coats. It was a very hard job. The Conrads did a great job of taping off the areas with plastic and confining the inevitable dust from the sandings. What's most Important: The END RESULT is a very smooth wall surface that was painted expertly. Everything was cleaned up and furniture and rugs put back. I would reccomend Conrad and company to Angies list members!

Wallpaper removal was very difficult, probably because paper was applied without proper prep originally. Conrad is a perfectionist so that the cost ran a bit over expectations, but resulted in a beautiful job. His crew also does a good job and I appreciated the cleanup done every day.
