Conrad Hansen Painting & Decorating

Overall went very well. Took about 4 days. They removed socket covers, railings, light bulbs, etc. Put everything back correctly. Only problem is they got paint on some of the woodwork and cabinets. Otherwise good and I would recommend them.

Mr. Hansen arrived at the scheduled time, brought in his equipment, went right to work, and finished the wallpaper removal within 3 hours. He left the walls ready to paint.

After using the coupon to remove the wallpaper, I was so impressed with Conrad's work, that I hired him to paint the condominium. The wallpaper (which had been on for about 30 years) was removed with minimal wall damage, but was repaired beautifully. Conrad also found some mold in the bathroom, removed the floor board repaired and replaced everything. They also cleaned up very nicely. I was extremely impressed with all his work, and would happily hire him again.

I took advantage of a big deal for wallpaper removal with Conrad. He did a great job and I decided to hire him for the rest of the wallpaper removal and painting. A week later he showed up with a crew of 5 and they stripped all of the wallpaper on my first floor ...2400 square feet... (every room wallpapered!) They then patched the walls, skimcoated, and painted the whole first floor including a 2 story stairwell. It was dusty, messy work, but they did a good job in cleaning up, too. They were punctual every day, and worked hard for 8 hours for approximately 2 weeks. I was around during all the work, and they were busy all day long. Conrad is a perfectionist, and if he wasn't pleased with the work his crew did, he made them do it over. We have had other painters give us bids on other projects, and his price was very reasonable for the amount of work that needed to be done. And when I saw how long it took, how hard they worked, and what a fantastic job they did, it was worth it! I will definitely hire him again when I need any painting done!

Conrad was very responsive -- made an appointment (to honor my "Big Deal") within a week of my initial phone call. He arrived on time, and went right to work. The wallpaper came right off -- except we discovered there were three ADDITIONAL layers of wallpaper underneath it. That took a bit longer (to soak through so many layers), but he not only completed the removal -- he also removed all the glue and wiped down the walls, vacuumed up the mess and gave me tips on how to remove wallpaper myself, if I choose to do so on my next room. He also instructed me on the best way to repair the plaster walls to prepare them for painting (there were lots of nail holes), and how to handle painting my woodwork, ceiling and walls. He did a great job and was pleasant company. And he completed the job in the four hours of my "Big Deal".

I have been looking for someone to remove the wallpaper from our foyer and the hallway and the prices that I was quoted seemed a bit high, so when I saw the ad on Angie's list for wallpaper removal; 1 guy for 4 hours, or 2 guys for 2 hours I jumped on it. They came out and gave us an appromimate estimate because the job was going to exceed 2 hours with spraying the wallpaper and getting it loose and then the actual removal. The final cost of $139 was well within my budget and I plan to use Conrad's company in the future when we do additional renovations to our home.

Conrad and his brother were very clean, pleasant and professional. I was so happy with the wallpaper removal that I asked for a quote for painting. I will definitely work with Conrad again.

Mr. Hansen was responsive from the very start. When I called to set an appointment he answered his phone (versus me having to leave a voicemail and wait for a call back). He showed up at the time he was supposed to and removed all the wallpaper in the four-hour time allotment that we had paid for.

Very professional and thoughtful about what they were doing. What I purchased was not enough to do the whole room and they left areas that I could do and gave me information and tips on how to do it- very, very helpful.

The overall experience was very good.

Conrad was very responsive when I contacted him. We scheduled the work. He showed up as promised...called on his way. He worked quickly, efficiently and thoroughly. He did a great job removing all the wallpaper and the glue underneath. He cleaned up and left the area very clean. He did not damage the walls and left them in nice shape. Also, since I do my own painting, Conrad was very nice and spent time explaining everything I should do to achieve a successful paint job. He gave me many tips. He also offered I could call with follow up questions as I begain painting- and I did. He was very nice and answered my question with a nice explanation. I would definitely recommend him.

Responsive to my call. Set up an appointment to fit into my schedule. Arrived on time with an assistant. Both were organized, professional and cleaned up afterwards.

Well overall. removing wall paper is not fun and these guys got in and got out and got it done.

THIS EXPERIENCE WAS SURPRISINGLY AWFUL The reason I say surprising is that I called on a Monday morning and asked for his first availability and he said "how about tomorrow at 8:00 AM?" I thought how cool is that and said I would see him tomorrow. (RESPONSIVENESS = "A") At 7:45 the next morning I got a call from Conrad saying he was running late because of traffic. He arrived a 8:15. Not bad, not great. (PUNCTUALITY = "C") From 8:15 to 8:30 we chatted about the job (talked about his pole sander, talked about using a sealer after he was done, sanding, etc.) At 8:30 he said he needed to go to Menard's because his can of sealer was frozen and it needed to be replaced. So he left. He came back at about 9:00 with his new sealer. At 9:05 he filled his sanding vacuum with water assuring me that it was better than a HEPA. He got to work. 60 minutes later he came up to me to show me his work. To my surprise and disappointment, he sanded almost nothing!!! Instead he rolled one coat of sealer over the aforementioned glue residue and wallpaper chunks. Even the sealer was applied in a slipshod manner (he missed spots, etc.). He said he could come back in April to continue the work. Unreal. At 10:10 he was out the door. He took me off guard with his parting words "we good?" Bottom line is that I paid about $100/hour for one hour of work I didn't want. (Nice "big deal" for him - big bag of crap for me!). He could have spent the remaining time doing other work in the room (ceiling prep, baseboard prep, patching holes, etc). I really felt used by his "take the money and run" approach.

Conrad doesn't deserve an A he deserves an A+.

Conrad and his team were professional from the start: early at an 8 am Monday appt, asked questions to ensure job was performed up to standards, gave professional suggestions for future projects based on his 25 years of experience and completed the wallpaper removal that was requested. One thing I really appreciated with Conrad was that he was realistic and honest with the time and money that it would take to remove wallpaper. For those of you who haven't removed wallpaper it can be an awful and long process. Honestly, it has taken me over 2 hours to remove a 2x3 foot spot. So be aware of the time that wallpaper removal can take, but honestly it is worth every penny to have someone else do it! I would highly recommend Conrad and will plan to use him again if the need arises. Thank you!

Conrad came when he said he would and did a great job. He cleaned up after himself and he not only tore off the wallpaper but also did some prep work (which I didn't expect) so I could start painting. All this on a coupon! I have plans to have him back to help with some more prep work before I start painting and will let you know how that goes.

He finished the work. Did a good job. Would not listen to reason about his initial responsibilities. Got defiant and angry. Would never have dealings with him again.

After we purchased the deal, we realized the fine print said the walls had to be less than nine feet tall. They also said they were booked until April. We decided to a get a refund on the deal.

Conrad arrived on time, was very professional and personable, and the quality of his work was excellent. He completed the job within the four hour time slot, so there were no additional charges and, in fact, he did a few extra tasks to help us out that were over and above the wall-paper removal. Conrad cleaned the area nicely after the job was completed also. The was a very good experience and I would definitely hire him again and would also recommend him to others. Great job!

The experience was horrible. I told Mr. Hansen not to bring his apprentice on site, as there was only enough room for one person to work in the small bathroom foyer. He brought his apprentice anyway. So, while the apprentice stripped wallpaper, Mr. Hansen wandered throughout my house - without taking off his dirty work shoes - talking on his cell phone. They didn't use drop cloths while stripping - even when I offered to lend them ours - and made a huge, wet mess all over the hardwood bathroom foyer floor. It took me several weeks and repeated attempts to scrape plaster out from between the floor boards afterward. They poured their stripping solution down my bathroom sink - instead of down the toilet - leaving wallpaper paste and plaster residue in the sink, and clogging the drain. At one point, I found Mr. Hansen in my bedroom, cutting wall paper with a single-edged razor blade on my oriental rug. No, he didn't protect the rug at all. After they finally left the premises, I found plaster hand-prints on four door jambs in a trail through the house, and they left a huge garbage bag full of heavy, wet debris in my front hall. They had "difficulties" installing the wall paper, because they hadn't brought the correct tools. So, the border they installed doesn't corner properly (there's a gap between the wall paper and the wall), and started to rip within a few days of installation. A few months later, the plaster that they'd applied over the stripped area started to bubble. I had a different contractor in to assess the conditions. He stated that this condition occurs the underlying wall paper hasn't been completely removed prior to plastering. In order to correct the bubbling, the entire wall section will have to be removed down to the studs, and sheet-rocked.

It didn't go well. The man was 45 minutes late, was condescending to my wife, and didn't take off his shoes when entering the house. Furthermore, we felt that his price was off the cuff.
