I am very happy with my experience with Technical Reinforcements. I called them based on their Angie's List rating and coupon. I left a message explaining my problem and I received a call back within a couple of hours on a week day. They were able to schedule a time to come within a few days of my call. On the day of the appointment, Adrian called to say he was running early and asked if it would be ok to arrive before the scheduled time. He explained everything to me before, while, and after he was working to solve the problem. He also answered a couple of additional questions I had that were unrelated to the initial problem. He fixed my computer in less than an hour.
Description of Work: My desktop computer was booting up with a blue screen of death. Adrian from Technical Reinforcements explained possible reasons for the error messages over the phone when we set up the appointment, and then again when he arrived to my home. Although he initially thought the error may be caused by some corrupt files, he was quickly able to determine it was actually a hardware problem. He efficiently and systematically figured out a piece of RAM was the culprit. He happened to have the appropriate kind of RAM for my computer out in his car left over from a previous call that day, so he was able to diagnose, repair, and actually slightly upgrade the system since the replacement RAM was faster than the broken RAM.

I was very pleased with the service provided by this company. When Adrian couldn't get the old computer working, I called him to help set up the new computer and printer and give me advice and instructions on using the new system. He was professional and extremely helpful. I felt comfortable working with him.

I was a bit disappointed with this service. The response time to our initial call was slow. They charged for a full hour of service, when they were only here for ten minutes. Then they were unable to get the problem corrected.

HIS WORDS BELOW THIS POINT. “I WAS THERE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR, FROM 2:00 PM TO 2:50 PM. I POKED AROUND A BIT AND FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM WASN'T WITH HER USB WIRELESS CARD ITSELF! THE USB CONTROLLER ON THE MOTHERBOARD APPEARED TO BE FAILING, BECAUSE NO USB DEVICES COULD BE RECOGNIZED, NOT EVEN ONES I HAD BROUGHT WITH ME LIKE MY THUMB DRIVE. EVERYTHING SHOWED UP AS AN "UNKNOWN DEVICE" WITH "THIS DEVICE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY" MESSAGES FROM WINDOWS. SOME OF THE TIME TRYING TO PLUG IN A DEVICE CAUSED THE MACHINE TO POWER DOWN OR REBOOT. I WARNED HER THAT WHEN YOU SEE BEHAVIOR LIKE THIS FROM THE ONBOARD USB CONTROLLER, THAT MEANS THAT THE MOTHERBOARD WAS PROBABLY IN THE PROCESS OF FAILING, AND I COULDN'T GUARANTEE HOW LONG IT WOULD LAST. I NOTICED THAT THE COMPUTER ALSO HAD A PCI WIRELESS CARD INSTALLED, BUT HAD NO DRIVERS INSTALLED FOR WHATEVER REASON. I GOT DRIVERS INSTALLED AND USED THE PCI WIRELESS CARD TO CONNECT THE COMPUTER TO THE INTERNET. I PAINSTAKINGLY EXPLAINED EVERYTHING THAT I HAD DONE, AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE COMPUTER GIVEN THE MOTHERBOARD ISSUES AND THE AGE OF THE COMPUTER. My desktop PC was not working properly. I called James Allard and described the problems I was having with the computer, he suspected that it had been hit with spyware. James was about to catch a plane, so he told me to call the Technical Reinforcements office number to reach another technician. He was apologetic about not being able to help me right away. A technician, Chris, called me and scheduled a time to come to my house. He arrived promptly for the appointment. Chris explained what was wrong with the computer and tried to fix it on-site. He was unable to fix it here, so he took the computer offsite and had to reinstall Windows, etc. on it. I needed the computer back by a certain time and he was able to meet that timing. I also had Chris install a new antivirus system that he recommended. The computer has worked well since.

We called and explained our problem. They came to our place of employment to pick up our computer on a Friday. They installed new hard drive, retrieving data from our back up. They stayed in touch over the weekend as to what they were doing and when done, delivered it back to place of employment on Monday. Very professional and friendly and prompt. James was great. My computer "crashed" 2 days prior to the appointment. I called James and he walked me thru a diagnostic check. I was able to reinstall MS Windows and fix our immediate problem. I was impressed that he could help me over the phone as well as spend his time on my problems without being paid. I set an appointment with him to streamline the performance of our computer which he did in 1.5 hours. He never charged me for the 30+ minutes of phone time prior to our appointment.
Description of Work: Hired TRI to improve the performance of my computer, install backup software, routinely backup my photos, music and videos, optimize our wireless system, and install virus protection. James was in my house for 1 hour, 40 minutes. He billed me for 1.5 hours and sold the virus protection software at his cost.

I emailed James on Wednesday describing the problem. He emailed me back that day with a diagnosis of the problem & some steps/options to pursue to fix it. The instructions worked & my PC is fine (including all my hard drive files). Any PC problems in the future - he will be my first call. I called a few other places & most wanted $70-100 just to take a look!

Work went incredibly well. I have worked from a solo, satellite office for about 10 years and am able to handle many of my own technical issues -- installing and configuring software and hardware, setting up wireless networks, establishing a networked environment for multiple on-site computers, setting up email accounts linked to off-site servers. This is the first time in years I've been stumped by a computer problem, and I had thought my laptop was a goner. James Allard was able to revive it at a price that was very, very reasonable. He explained the steps he was doing and why, and was happy to have me learn from what he was doing. I was impressed by his friendliness and professionalism. I highly recommend him and his company.

Adrian called back promptly and scheduled a service call for 2 days out. He arrived on time and checked everything out; explained the two things that were likely the problem and figured out which it was. He also did diagnostic things on our several laptops and checked out best set-ups for our wireless router. We needed a new router; he had one with him but it was defective so he had to get a new one and come back for a second call but did not charge us for the second call. He was helpful and informative and just an all around nice guy. He told us he worked for James Allard (the company owner) on a contract basis. James Allard called us several days after Adrian had fixed our network to make sure we were happy with Adrian's work. I would (and have) recommended these guys to anyone with home computer problems!
Description of Work: Our wireless network was very slow and hit or miss. Technical Reinforcements fixed it -- it's now fast and dependable. Technically, not much was wrong with our set-up and I think I could have done everything myself that they did, but it would have taken me a very long time, and I would have had several temper tantrums and a lot of cursing. Adrian called me back promptly and helped me with fixing the virtual memory problem over the phone without charging me. He also talked me through figuring out what kind of RAM I had and advising against sinking too much repair money into our current PC. We set up an appointment and he installed the memory, gave a general look-through on the computer and helped to optimize our wireless network. Overall, I was extremely pleased.

My computer would not start up all the way. He ran some applications in safe mode to determine the problem. He was fairly certain the hard drive was shot, which was repairable but not worth the cost. It could also have been the controller for the hard drive, which is not repairable. I chose to stop at that point and get a new computer.

I called Technical Reinforcements and Adrian set up an appointment with me for the next morning. He arrived promptly and immediately got to work on my computer. Shortly thereafter, my USB ports were functioning as USB 2.0. Adrian had to work awhile to gain access to my files (apparently many things are a lot harder to do with the Home Edition of XP than the Professional Edition). In order to ensure that the files were, indeed, accessible, he started transferring them for me. Because the files were lengthy (lots of photos and music), he did not stay for the whole transfer (to save me money), but asked that I call him to let him know how everything went. He said he'd be back if everything didn't work. He also gave me some information about protecting my computer from viruses, etc. Two weeks after Adrian fixed my computer, James Allard called me to check if everything was still fine with the computer.
Description of Work: I updated my Microsoft XP Home Edition Gateway computer to Service Pack 2 and was completely unable to get the computer to start up afterward. To fix my computer, I installed another hard drive but was unable to access my files on the original hard drive, due to them being password protected. I have been able to get out of similar situations in the past, but not this time! Alas, it had been a month since I had backed up all my files. I also needed to get my USB 2.0 card working. Adrian was able to install proper drivers for the USB 2.0 card, and fixed it so that XP didn't automatically over-write them like it had done in the past. He also fixed the permissions for my hard drive files, and started transferring them to my new hard drive for me. My computer is now working better than it has ever worked, even when new!

Neither one of us had a DVD so I assumed that it would work. When I picked a DVD up and tried to play it, it wouldn't work unless I downloaded $80.00 worth of software. I called Adrian at Technical Reinforcements and he walked me through a process to download something else to get it to work. It was a success and Adrian was very polite and helpful.

When I called and explained the issue, James was very helpful and walked me through some possible solutions that were available to me at no charge. I had tried them already and was still having issues. By the way, he didn't charge for any of this initial consulting. We set a time up that and he was very courteous. He arrived in the area early and called to ask if he could come a little early. I really appreciated this. I don't when I last had someone show up early AND he checked to see if this was okay! James was very good at explaining what he was doing throughout and encouraged me to ask any questions I had. He was able to solve my issue. It turns out the issue with my browser was a setting in my virus protection that somehow became activated to protect anyone from changing my homepage. James is awesome to work with and he is VERY customer focused. My experience from end to end with him was excellent and I know I will contact him for any future needs I may have.
