We love Andrew Forsmark and we love his work! Why? The results are excellent - beautiful and durable. Andrew is personable, trustworthy and shows up when he says he will show up. He crafted our beautiful walk in shower and that was a huge amount of fiddly work (challenges are a given in redoing an older home) that turned out to be a work of art. Along the way, we also upgraded the floor with heat and added a custom marble backsplash over a pedestal sink. We also faced the challenge of dealing with a granite vendor that suddenly closed shop mid-stream. The best part of working with Andrew is his knowledgable consultation - we not only learned a lot, but we able to make informed decisions regarding drainage, maintenance, the pros-and-cons of heated floors and tile choice thanks to his wisdom and experience. Finally, Andrew was an absolute pro when it came to working with the other trades on the job, keeping our carpenter (Mike Strafelda - a brilliant introduction of Andrew's), electrician, plumbers, and HVAC people informed and on task. We need to remodel another bathroom in the near future and Andrew Forsmark will be on the job.

This was a challenging project because of the age of the house. We created a true master bathroom adjoining the clients bedroom on the 2nd floor of a turn of the century bungalow. The floor joists needed reinforcement before tiling could occur. Clients listened to my remodeling professionals and the result was a nice high end spacious bathroom with all the amenities. The clients were "all things considerate" making for a very pleasant working environment and final outcome. Happy to help cool people... Thanks! Andrew Forsmark

We were very pleased with the results! Andrew was very easy to work with from start to finish. He was flexible with the timing to fit our schedule and did a great job communicating with us along the way so we knew the progress of his work. To help us save some money, Andrew told us that we could do some of the demolition of the old tile ourselves and even lent us his tools in order for us to do so (and came over on a Saturday morning to show me how to use them). Our 1950s house presented some challenges but with Andrew's attention to detail, the new tile looks great! We have received many compliments already and we will definitely contact Andrew if we have another tile job.

We installed a really nice glass mosaic blend for this clients backslash. We worked in close coordination with a sister in-law who is a professional interior designor who picked out a great tile that pulled in all the clients aesthetics within their kitchen. Clients supplied and ordered tile, and setup a precise construction schedule having us do the back splash and then electricians immediately behind us to swap out switches and plates. Job was a huge success due to great communication and coordination of scheduling with the client. Thanks for the nice review and we look forward to working with you all again!

I love my new bathroom! The craftsmanship of Andrew and his excellent subcontractors provided me with such excellent results. My almost 100 year old house's bathroom did not have level floors or walls (and had wrong plumbing & venting once uncovered), and everyone handled the challenges like pros. Every change was explained to me carefully. I chose some unique plumbing fixtures, and Andrew's plumbers (Janecky) were so good. The carpentry team was excellent as well (Collective Carpentry, along with dry wall and painting craftsmen), suggesting finishing touches that I had not even thought of and in the end, the results were perfect. The electricians (American Electric) made the necessary updates on lighting, venting, and outlets with ease and now my new (still pocket-size) bathroom functions like a spa. I am late to work often now because I never want to leave the bathroom. Andrwe and his team all know what they are doing. They are experienced and equally important, they were professional AND NICE. I really resisted doing a bathroom update for years because I didn't want to go through the issues I hear so many people go through with contractors that are hard to work with. I had nothing like that on my bathroom project, and it's all thanks to Andrew and his group of talented craftsmen.
Description of Work: Andrew from Nordic Tile took my bathroom remodel design and my wish list and he advised, consulted, and connected me with high-end vendors to source my wish-list of materials. Everyone Andrew recommended were great resources, and his advice on products to use were so helpful. He responded to each and every email (and there were so many) at the design & estimating stage. He also connected me with several of his previous clients and I talked to all of them and they were all so complimentary of Andrew's work. I was so confident by this point to go with Andrew and his subs. The work that was done: - demo down to the studs on almost all the wall space - demo the floor (and even digging into the dining room wall below) & run new plumbing for sink, toilet, tub/shower & venting - level very uneven floor - lay in-floor heat + install controls - install overhead light in shower - install new sconces at the medicine cabinet - lay beautiful basketweave marble floor - lay classic subway tile in the shower/tub surround (applying a fun design that we collaborated on throughout the project) and around the room up to a chair rail - build and install 4 shower niches with beautiful marble shelves and the backs of the lovely basketweave marble like the flooring - install new toilet - install unique, special-order exposed shower & tub hardware - reinstall existing sink on new leveled floor - install special, exposed water shutoff valves - install antique hvac grate - install new crown moulding on door and window to match medicine cabinet / existing crown moulding in house (original moulding was mysteriously missing) - rebuild cabinet door to work with new tile wall - cut down the door to work with the new leveled floor - paint all the new walls & woodwork

We enjoyed our working relationship with this client. A long and through-rally vetted process took place before the construction phase of this project. Client checked out our insurance, licenses, and of course personal referrals and we engaged in a full on bath remodel done up right in a turn or the century house that had original wiring and plumbing that needed to all be replaced. Client professionally is a very successful producer and she had a say in every aspect of the job. The costs of this project ran more then a typical bath remodel because we preserved all the aesthetic elements of an old house and worked around them and into our new design. Client also used imported plumbing fixtures that ran about 3 times more then standard American manufacturers. I appreciate the detailed review and clients advice to tone down my gruff personality. My wife totally agrees! :) My "Minnesota Blunt" personality is a hybrid of my stoic scandihuvian pedigree and all the iron in my blood having patriarchal descendants from "Da Range." Everyone involved with this project was treated very well by the client and we are all very happy for the work and nice working environment. Thanks so much for the detailed, thoughtful, and complementary review.

Nordic Tile owner Andrew Forsmark was not at all intimidated by the job as he has done many similar old-house jobs in and around the cities. He explained exactly what and how the job would be done and made valuable suggestions about the size and type of tile we should use. He was very OK with us providing the tile and grout and even carried it all in for us. Our job took several days as it involved replacing the concrete floor broken up by the plumber; raising/regrading the floor throughout the room 1.5"; sealing/waterproofing the entire floor area; installing the 2"x2" tile; then grouting, sealing and cleaning the floor. With each process, Andrew demonstrated his commitment and skills, as well as his love for the job - he even whistles while he works! All this resulted in a BEAUTIFUL NEW CERAMIC TILE FLOOR and TWO VERY HAPPY CUSTOMERS! On time, exactly as bid, no headaches - we wish every project went as well as this one! Thank you, Andrew!
Description of Work: When it became necessary to bust open the concrete floor in our laundry room to replace/repair the main waste stack, we saw it as an opportunity to seriously upgrade and improve the entire laundry room floor. Our home is nearly a hundred years old. Previous attempts to paint or install vinyl were really unsatisfactory and did nothing to address the rather steep slop to the floor drain. Having used Angie's List many times in the past, we contacted several tiling contractors. We soon learned some of the contractors had no desire to attempt the pre-tile work of patching the hole in the floor and raising the floor's pitch - and their bids reflected that.

We knew we'd have a great working relationship with these clients from the get go. My company has been in continual operation for almost 2 decades now and I've developed a strong sense of what type of clients I want to work for. Job consisted of changing the pitch of their existing laundry room floor, waterproofing it, tiling a porcelain mosaic tile, and grouting with an enhanced stain resistant grout. Everything went according to plan, took about a week to do, because it was basically one large shower pan. Everyday the client went out of their way to make me feel welcome which goes a long way as I did everything and more to make sure the job was done up right. Glad to have delivered such a nice floor to a such nice people. Thanks a bunch!

We were asked to remove old layers of flooring and retile a bathroom floor and small wall wainscoting area with travertine stone tile. Pricing included tile labor and setting materials, clients provided the tile and did some demolition work themselves. Clients were easy to work with and easy to communicate with, when we came across water damage in the carpentry that had to be replaced they were very understanding in the need to have it professionally restructured by my carpenters. Job kept right on track and they got back a really nice bathroom floor. We used some industrial based sealant on the stone tile to keep it looking brand new for years to come. Thanks for the review and all the work!

We had a very pleasant working experience with this couple. We were asked to tile a couple of bathrooms and a small entryway . Pricing included tile and labor, we also installed and provided infloor heat in the Master. Their Mid century rambler was very well preserved and we gave the bathrooms a flesh contemporary feel while using some timeless elements in the tile layout to blend with the age of the house. Everyone was very happy with all the results. Look for pictures of this project off our website at www.nordictile.com . Thanks for the nice review and all the work!

We are saddened to learn of a average experience with our company. We were brought in to finish another contractors work last winter of an upstairs bathroom. Unfortunately this client failed to disclose to us when signing our contract that they had conducted the remodeling work in their bathroom through use of another contractor illegally by not pulling the proper permits through the city. Since we were already engaged in a contract, we completed the work to the best of our abilities despite the numerous deficiencies in the previous contractors work conducted illegally. Upon completion of the job we had them sign documents affirming everything described above and will forward it to our Angie's List representative and make available on our website for viewing at: http://www.nordictile.com/disputes Andrew Forsmark

This was one of those jobs that I had been trying to get done for years and now that it is complete I couldn't be happier. I went with Nordic Tile because Andrew explained to be me in detail what he would be doing and clearly cared about how the job turned out. During the week he was re-tiling the floor he called me regularly with updates. There were a few complications along the way -- the previous owner of our house had done a horrible job tiling the floor himself -- and Andrew handled each problem with professional skill and humor. And despite the extra tasks Andrew had to be perform to make the tile look good the final bill came in very close to the estimate. I would gladly hire Nordic Tile to do another job at my house.

This project was located in the Summit Hill neighborhood of St. Paul which contains a lot of turn of the century homes. This client bought the house from people who renovated it in a hurry. We brought the bathroom back to what it would of looked like in its original condition with a classic hexagon porcelain mosaic tile. Along the way we discovered numerous deficiencies in the layers underneath the tile (called substrate) that lead to the original floor failing. We improved each layer, and documented everything for the client to see along the way. Happy to of helped such nice people. Thanks for the Great Review!

Andrew was extremely responsive every step of the way. When we had issues choosing the tile, he responded immediately and gave us advice on the best place to go. He started the job when he said he would be able to start it and any of the problems that cropped up during the tile installation were swiftly dealt with. He remained in contact throughout the process and asked questions before making decisions. He was genuinely concerned when we had any issues and worked to correct them as soon as possible. He was easy to work with and made sure we were satisfied. All in all it was a good experience.

The shower Andrew installed developed a leak after only three years. I chose to go with another contractor rather than let Andrew try again. The contractor I hired to re-do the shower identified an improperly installed shower liner as the source of the leak. I suggested that Andrew could stand behind the quality of his work by giving us even a partial refund, but he declined without even asking what I would consider to be a fair settlement.

We noticed that when Andrew completed the floor in the guest bathroom that some of the tiles were sticking up and that the treshhold was uneven. We requested those be corrected and Andrew's helper took care of the problem. When Andrew was doing the demolition of the fiberglass shower in the Master Bathroom he hit a waterline which resulted in water running for approximately 4 minutes. The water damage resulted to $5,600.00 damage to our Kitchen ceiling and walls. We were thankful that Andrew had insurance that covered the damage, but it resulted in more than an six week delay in our bathroom remodel and the added hassle and mess of hiring someone to repair the damage to our kitchen. Update 4/18/2014: The response from Andrew to my review is disappointing. He indicated that he thought I had shut off the water, but he had not asked me if I had turned it off, so I am not sure how he could have thought it was turned off. Andrew also indicated that the plumbing was unusual and not up to code, which is not the case. The plumbing was original to the home and it was inspected when it was done during the construction of the home. The most frustrating part of this ordeal to me was that when Andrew cut the water line, he had already removed half of the shower stall and the water line was visible that he cut. After this ordeal, we did not have Andrew do the tiling of our master bathroom. I hired another tile contractor to do the actual tile work.
Description of Work: We hired Andrew to tile the floor in our Guest bathroom and to remove a fiberglass shower and tile around our whirlpool bath, then install a tile shower, plus wainscoting of tile behind the toilet and around the whirlpool in our Mater bathroom

Yes, we were completely at fault for accidentally rupturing the waterline. I thought the home owner left the water off after he finished plumbing in some connections moments before I started my work. The water line in question was not visible behind the fiberglass wall and as it turned out was placed outside the stud cavity which would never would have passed a plumbing inspection. After the incident occurred we took immediate steps making a claim with our insurance company, staying in close contact our insurance rep to make sure things were processed quickly to ensure the home owner was paid for the damages within 8 days of occurrence. We apologized profusely at the time of the incident and don’t feel very fairly treated by the client after 5 months of the event occurring. Should people take further interest in this accident we will have documented pictures on our website at http://www.nordictile.com/disputes

We are very pleased to hear this clients response to our work. This client made things very easy for us to work in their house by allowing us to setup our tools close to the work, and by keeping the family dog at bay for most of the work days. My helper and I installed a porcelain tile at an offset 45 degree angle that completely transformed the look of the first floor from the previous "new home" tile. Thanks for the nice review, look forward to the next one!

We were very happy with Andrew's work. The pattern chosen for the tile work looks great. Andrew suggested using a metallic finish on the edges of the tile to save money on the special bullnose tile pieces, and that also looks great, complementing the modern style of our home. Both he and his partner Lou (a semi-retired gentleman who supervised the tile work on the new Twins stadium) were very knowledgeable and paid attention to detail, carefully tilting the shelves on the shower caddies, on the capstones immediately under the frameless shower doors, and in the showers themselves so that water would run toward the new Kohler drains like its supposed to.
Description of Work: We had Andrew remodel two baths for us. He ripped out a shower/tub combination in one bathroom to make a new big shower stall with porcelain, glass, and travertine tile and large, frameless glass doors. He also redid the upstairs shower using similar materials and installed travertine tile throughout both bathrooms. His plumber installed new Toto toilets and Hansgrohe raindance shower pipes.

Andrew is 100% professional, and the work he did looks wonderful! The tile is arranged so that it flows beautifully, like a piece of art. Andrew explained that is why it is so critical to NOT buy tile at a mass-market, big box store. When all the tiling was done, I completely understood what he was talking about; each and every tile is unique and therefore, the placement of the tile is critical. That's why a professional is important. I very much appreciated the outstanding communication. He kept me informed every step of the way with phone calls and emails. I felt like my job was important to him even though I knew he was also busy with other jobs. I also appreciated his patience while it took me so long to choose the tile! It was also great that I was able to tell him what I wanted, for example I didn't want any decorative accents, and he didn't add in his two cents like other contractors that I interviewed. He respected what I wanted, and didn't try to change my mind. This was my first remodel job, and I was anxious that the final amount would be higher than the bid, however, it wasn't! What a relief. And last but not least, I was comfortable with Andrew in my home. As a single female living alone, this was a concern for me that maybe most other customers don't have. I interviewed others who weren't as professional, and it was a pleasure to work with Andrew.

Andrew is very skilled, and is a joy to work with. Here are his strengths; communicates well, often and on time. He is heads-and-shoulders better on client communication than other contractors with whom we have worked; helped a lot with preliminary shower design as we made decisions about what we wanted; He offered sound advice, and honored our decisions once made; and managed other contractors well, including the plumbers for the shower piping, drain and fixtures. He also is a genuine character, comfortable in his own skin. And was very friendly to the occasional neighbor who wandered in to see his work. We have hired and managed many contractors. We recommend Andrew whole-heartedly.

Andrew was great to deal with from first contact. During the process, he was excellent at giving us daily calls to let us know how the process was going. We were attempting to do this project ourselves, and found that our basement floor was very uneven and after THREE attempts of self-leveling cement to get the floor ready to tile, we decided to call in the professionals. And thankfully we did! Andrew came over the same day I called to look at our space, and then within a day or 2 provided us with a reasonable estimate for both the floor tiling/leveling and tub surround. He truly saved our bathroom -- we were afraid that our floor was beyond repair from what we did to it! when Andrew came out to provide an estimate, our main focus was the floor -- but we asked him to estimate the tub surround at the same time, in hopes we could afford to have him do that too. His estimate was very reasonable, and he worked with us on sourcing the tile and grout. So we had him do that too ? and then last minute we also asked him to tile a small closet. Both my husband and I try to be a good judge of character when using contractors, they need to be personable and friendly ? in addition to fair and reasonable with their estimate. Andrew were all those things. We would recommend him, and plan to use him again for our next tiling project.

I would not use him again. I'm sure he is a good field tile installer, just not a craftsman.
Description of Work: Andrew installed a submarine tile backsplash and mosaic glass tile in the wall behind our stove. For the glass mosaic tile he used quick-setting thinset which set immediately so that he was unable to adjust the tile on the wall. This resulted in an amateurish-looking job where you can see where the sheets start and stop. The submarine tile could have used a little finesse with regard to getting everything to at least look level. When asked about it he got belligerent and made excuse after excuse finally offering to pack up and move on because we the type of people who would never be happy with it. In the end we got the tile in, but it is a job where you hope no one looks to closely at it.

We are sorry to hear of this client mediocre experience with us. This review does serve as a good example as to why it's important to consult with us before purchasing tile. This client and her husband are penny wise, pound foolish. They decided they wanted to save a few bucks by buying clearance tile and hobbled together a bunch of different stuff to come up with a backsplash. I didn't know that this was 2nd hand stuff until starting the job. We always finish what we start and tried to make things look as decent as they could get. If pointing out that a glass mosiac sheet is missing half the tile it was supposed to have adhered to it is an excuse, then I was making excuse after excuse. I took pictures of this job and will post them within my dispute section http://www.nordictile.com/disputes On my website you will also find backsplash after backsplash of some stunning work.

The 2nd floor shower was leaking and it was sprinkling in the bedroom below. We love the vintage tile in our bathroom and it was in great shape and our main priority was finding someone who could remove and replace the shower without damaging the wall and step through tile. We had one person tell us they couldn't do the job and are two other bids were very close in price. Andrew seemed the most confident in his ability to to save the tile. The tile work was all done by Andrew and his assistant. Our plumber came in to do the plumbing and Andrew had a subcontractor do the door. The jackhammer they had to use to remove caused some grout to crack and a leaky radiator. Both of which were likely unavoidable and Andrew took full responsibility of repair. The new shower looks great and blends in seamlessly with the old tile in the rest of the bathroom, which was completely saved. I think they were there about 3 weeks. While doing the work they made it a priority to minimize the mess and inconvenience. They were good with the kids and we liked having them around. Honestly really nice guys and a fantastic job! Thank you!
Description of Work: Removed old ceramic tile shower and lead pan and replaced with all new materials.

Andrew and his helper did an outstanding job replacing our shower. They were both very professional, efficient, and gave great detail to their work. Andrew spent time with us discussing various tiling options. His experience really helped us decide what type of tile and how to tie in the color of the new shower with an existing tile floor (which we didn?t replace). He was always on time, and completed the work on schedule. The finished work is a beautiful new shower that will last for many years. I highly recommend Nordic Tile for anyone who needs tile work A+++++.
Description of Work: Demolition of old tile shower, and installation of new tile shower. Note that the $4000 cost includes all plumbing and installation of a new glass shower door.

Andrew from Nordic Tile was fantastic to work with. He was incredibly flexible with scheduling - both my husband & I work full time so he was willing to pop over in the evenings or weekend to show us the progress he was making and make sure we were satisfied with the work. He was also great at keeping us informed on what he got done, what his plan was & when he thought he would be done with the job- which has not been my experience with all contractors... We recently bought a 100+ year old house, so needless to say, the floors/walls are nowhere near level. Andrew was up for the challenge. He leveled the floors by hand (amazing difference from what they were previously) and laid the tile in the mudroom/bathroom. He was a great consultant to us along the way in tile/grout & pattern selection. We liked him so much, we had him come back to install our backsplash in our kitchen. While he was a little higher priced than other contractors we bid out, you definitely pay for what you get - he was a true professional. We would call Andrew back in a heartbeat for our next job.
Description of Work: Leveled floors & added tile to mudroom, bathroom & laundry room. Installed Glass Subway tiles in kitchen backsplash

We had a great experience with Andrew from Nordic Tile. He is very professional and great to work with. This was our first time using Andrew and he did a wonderful job. He has a lot of experience and this shows in his craftsmanship. Not only is he great at what he does but he was punctual, courteous and respectful of our home. We'll definitely use Andrew for any future tiling needs we have.
Description of Work: Andrew installed a tile back splash in our kitchen. He also did some repair tile work in our house in a few areas (upstairs bathroom floor tile, entryway tile and caulking around the tile of a bathtub). Note: he was not the original tile layer in these areas.

We came in to tile a nice traditional 3 by 6 "subway" tile back splash using a grout color that blended nicely with the countertop. Did some repair work from previous installers while we were out. We really enjoyed getting to know the client and her family. The clients 7 year old daughter is way ahead of her time. We had some pretty good laughs when she asked me "is your Iphone a 5th generation?" Hey thanks for the great review!

Andrew first came over to the house to provide an estimate for tiling the kitchen backsplash. I still hadn't decide which tile I would use but Andrew was okay with that and provided some good suggestions about the options. He was able to fit me in his schedule quickly and spent 1 1/2 days to tile and then half day to finish with the grout. Backsplash looks great and Andrew was great to work with, providing attention to detail that makes all the difference.
Description of Work: Andrew tlled a backsplash for the kitchen, approximately 26-27 sq ft.

This client had a great sense of design. We went back and forth a little bit with tile selection, but the wait was worth it. A contemporary sized tile with a stacked layout blends with all the colors of the cabinets, coutertop, and appliances. Metal edging was used to hide exposed areas of the tile. Client was very pleased with results. Looks for pictures off our website in the "kitchen" section. Thanks for the great review!
