Description of Work: Mike and his team did an outstanding job on remodeling my mother's townhouse. He always kept me in the loop and was so respectful. My mother was a little Leary of having strangers in her home. Mike is so friendly and down to earth he made my mom feel so comfortable. In the end she looked forward to the crew coming each day. Mike snd his team does impeccable work. He completely remodeled a bathroom, new kitchen countertops, new ceilings throughout, removed grass cloth wallpaper, painted every room, new carpet throughout upstairs. We were so pleased with everything. They cleaned up every day and took responsibility for things that went wrong (not very many). I would recommend him to anyone and already have!

Description of Work: Gutted and remodeled our kitchen, except for custom cabinets. He subcontracted and coordinated electrical, dry wall and plumbing. Very organized and kept things going. He worked with us, was honest and bent over backwards to make sure we were pleased with his work. I would highly recommend him.

He returned my call within a day, inspected the shower and discussed with me the approach he would take and the possible issues. He provided an estimate and started the job when he stated. He recommended we replace the shower door as it appeared to have been leaking. He was able to find us a very good deal on the door. Mike communicated effectively and completely throughout every stage of the project.
Description of Work: Replaced leaking shower pan (insert) and bottom few rows of ceramic tile. Replaced damaged wallboard and retiled portion of shower. Replaced underfloor and retiled floor in front of shower.

 + 4 moreOverall, we were very happy we went with MGE Construction. Mike communicated very well in terms of giving a timeline for when things would happen as this remodel occured over several weeks. He came in late August to remove the old appliances so Sears could haul them away when they dropped off the new appliancs. He installed the dishwasher, oven and hood first and made the custom cubbies. The custom cubbies look great and blend in very well with our older cabinets. He came back later when the granite was installed to install the faucet, cooktop, and garbage disposal. We really appreciated being kept informed over what was going on, his communication with the granite company and any issues that came up. We had minimal unexpected events and Mike offered various options. In summary, our kitchen looks great and we love how it looks. We would definitely use MGE Construction again.
Description of Work: We obtained three quotes from three company's all listed with A ratings from Angie's list. We ultimately decided to go with MGE Construction (Mike). The reason we chose MGE Construction was because Mike made some great suggestions as to ways to keep our mini-kitchen remodel under a tighter budget and was very reasonable price wise. The mini-kitchen remodel included removing the old appliances (built in double oven, dishwasher, cooktop, and hood), tearing out the old countertop and removing it, installing a custom cubbie for a microwave that would go above the built in single oven and hooked it with new electricity from the basement, a custom cubbie for extra space next to the hood. He also installed all the new appliances (single built in oven, dishwasher, cooktop, and hood) as well as a new garbage disposal and new faucet. The cost also includes new granite countertops for approximately 33 square feet and Mike worked directly with the Company in terms of sending the information over, having them come for the template, etc.) In addition, Mike was able to get us a stainless steel undermount sink (double) bowl for a discounted price.

 + 11 moreMike was the third bid we received on our project. Mike responded promptly to our inquiry, met with us several times in the evening to clarify details before submitting his bid. He gave us several suggestions that improved the overall design and lowered the cost. Throughtout the entire project that spanned 6 weeks, Mike and his team were always prompt, with minimum disruption and very tidy. Mike communicated very well with us during the entire project. He and his team did excellent work. We are very happy with the end result. We would definitely hire Mike again.

 + 8 moreThe project took several months from start to finish (estimate over 7 months) but that was our fault not Mikes. Once we got started everything went right on schedule and I think even finished a little earlier than expected. Overall the subcontractors that were brought in were great - Mike did the tile work himself and it's perfect. He was very particular about the install and his instincts were right on regarding some of the decorative tile. I will hire Mike again for another project hopefully later this year.
Description of Work: Complete tear out, redesign and remodel of our first floor bathroom. We had a general idea of what we wanted to do but needed help in maximizing the best use of space. Mike worked with us over several months with sketches and ideas and finally we settled on the plan that suited us best. Mike was very patient with us, coming over without complaint and suggesting new ideas until we finally had an agreed plan. Mike coordinated the complete job from start to finish and even dealt with an unexpected problem, thanks to the city building inspectors, in a professional manner - The project involved tearing out a 1940's tiled bathroom, moving a wall to offer more space then installing all new fixtures, plumbing, electrical, tile and granite counter tops. We went over budget because of the problem with the city inspectors and upgrades on the tub and tile but Mike wasn't responsible for that. We love our new bathroom which looks like a bathroom you would find in a spa - it's beautiful.

He was very creative in choosing a new sink/vanity/countertop setup and changing the style of lighting that resulted in significant improvements to the layout and look of the bathroom.
Description of Work: Remodelled the main bathroom in the house. Removed and replaced: tile in the shower surround, tile on the floor, sink, countertop vanity and lighting.

 + 8 moreGreat experience. Mike is very skilled and professional. He showed up on time, cleaned up at the end of every day and did great work. We are very happy with our bathroom. We did have a minor delays along the way but that was due to the tile supplier. Would definitely work with MGE again.
Description of Work: We had a small master bath remodeled. Project involved demo of entire bath, including removal of all floor, wall and shower tile, replacement of vanity, toilet, rotted flooring, wallboards. Mike installed heated floor mat, slate flooring, slate shower wall and stone shower floor, built and installed (sub-contractor) new cherry vanity with stone top, and installed frameless glass shower door. We purchased toilet, sink and light fixtures, which Mike then installed. We opted to paint walls and new trim ourselves.

We had some concerns about the drywall in one spot (it seemed a little wavy), but Mike responded to our concerns and had his contractor improve it to our satisfaction. We were very pleased with the quality of the custom cabinets; they were exactly what we wanted. The cost ended up being higher than Mike's initial estimate because we never discussed the specific finishes and Mike based his estimate on lower cost finishes.
Description of Work: Mike helped us remodel our bathroom. The project consisted of replacing the sink with a custom cherry cabinet with dual sinks and a granite counter top, installing a matching linen closet, replacing the tile, and reframing some doorways.

 + 5 moreOverall, the jobs MGE have done are always done extremely well. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality materials that were used to complete my job. They were purchased from a specialty supplier and were of far better quality than what most contractors would use despite the fact that it didn't cost a significant amount more. They do great work.
Description of Work: MGE Construction is a great company to work with. Mike is very professional and extremely focused on doing high quality work. MGE is easy to work with and also offer good ideas. I am very pleased with the work that has been done including a new closet, trim work, a new wall, gutters and down spouts, and a cedar wood gate. Pricing is very competitive and I am always pleased with the results.

In order to help me bring down the budget, he had new cabinets manufactured and some old ones refaced. The new cabinets are quite strong and very attractive. Mike made very helpful suggestions and did a lot of extras involved in the project. His crew also installed new counters, sink, microwave, garbage disposal and a ceiling fan.

 + -1 moreThis contractor came out to the job site for a bid. He seemed nice and pretty professional. There was an aspect with the job that he was very reluctant to tackle. He was the only contractor to make such a big deal about the challenge. I don't know who's wrong and who's right, but he pretty much said he didn't want the job most likely due to the situation. Yet at the end of the walk through he seemed willing to work on it. Weeks went by and I never heard back from him. Nothing. No "thanks for the opportunity to look at your project, but I'm too busy/not interested," no "sorry for taking so long," nothing. So..it leaves people hanging when you come out for a bid and never get back to people.

 + 5 moreIt went excellent. All the subs MGE used were excellent (plumbing, electric, drywall and HVAC). Mike handled the project expertly, including all permits, project management, and kept us completely happy (no small feat). MGE clearly laid out all costs and made a change order when small changes came up. His final bill was was almost exactly the same as the estimate, within $100. MGE's craftsmanship was exceptional and he was very easy to work with. Mike did several additional tasks for no charge, to help us out.
Description of Work: General Contractor for complete kitchen remodel and small bathroom remodel. Work included demolition of wall, ceiling, floor and old appliances and install of lighting, plumbing, flooring walls, fixtures and appliances. Had another contractor install new cabinets and granite countertop.

 + 9 moreOriginally, I was only going to have them do 1 bathroom remodel, but MGE Construction did such a great job at such a reasonable price I decided to have them tackle the next bathroom project. After another fantastic job it wasn't long before I was using them for basically refurbishing much of my home. Some important things about MGE construction is that they keep the work site clean, they explain the detail of the work, they didn't use pressure sales tactics, and most importantly the overall work is top notch! Oh, they also did some custom tile design work around an old fireplace that turned out beyond amazing, everyone comments on how great it looks when they see it.
Description of Work: MGE did the following work for us in a remodel job: 2 Bathrooms--removed and replaced flooring with tile, installed new vanities, mirrors, lighting, installed glass shower doors. Basement: Gutted out old outdated finished basement and sheet rocked, painted, trimmed out and updated all the lighting. Lighting: Replaced all the outdated fixtures in the house with new fixtures. Fireplace: Refurbished an old brick fireplace, cleaned it up, repaired it, and added some beautiful custom tile design work.
