Description of Work: Jeff painted the great room, stairwell, den and upstairs hall. This is a new home for us and Jeff had previously done both interior and exterior work at our old house. Jeff is meticulous. This fall he will be coming back to paint the bedroom. I highly recommend him!

Description of Work: Jeff painted the main floor of the house including cabinets in the main bathroom which had been stained a very dark oak color. I can't recommend Jeff high enough. he is very meticulous with his work, and pointed out to me areas which needed additional repair as he went. And then repaired them, including caulking the tub in the bathroom. the result overall were wonderful .Jeff also painted the outside of my home last year and the result there was also excellent, so when I needed work done on the interior of the home I didn't even contact anyone else for a bid.

 + 1 moreI would recommend Jeff and J J Hanson Painting without hesitation. Jeff came extremely quickly in response to a call for an estimate about deck maintenance. He gave me a very reasonable estimate and indicated he thought he could significantly improve the look of our deck. I had pretty significant time constraints and he worked his schedule around our plans. Other providers had told me they couldn't really repair our deck and that we should have it rebuilt. While on my property, Jeff noticed other painting issues and offered to fix them as well. In the end, he improved the appearance of our deck way beyond my wildest expectations. He worked very hard and told me it was the most difficult repair he had ever encountered but it turned out GREAT. Even better was the work that was done on the frame around our front door and around the garage doors. I am very thankful that I found him through Angie's List and will ask him to return for other projects. I highly recommend him and his work. He was timely, professional and completed cleaned up his work space on a daily basis.
Description of Work: Our deck was very weather worn and in need of repair. Jeff Hanson gave me a very reasonable estimate to power wash, sand and stain the deck. Other companies estimated higher amounts for less work.

 + 0 moreAfter looking at house, he provided a detailed, itemized written quote. The provider suggested additional work that could be done such as washing deck and railing. The work was then scheduled and the pressure washing of the house was done in a day. The vinyl siding had not been washed since new (16 yrs). We agreed to a schedule for the painting work but due to the hot, humid weather, this part of the job was delayed. When scheduling the balance of the work around the hot, humid, wet weather, provider was EXCELLENT in communicating changes to the work schedule. The provider has excellent work and business skills. I was very happy with the outcome of the project.
Description of Work: Pressure washed whole house (removed mold), removed excess sealant from front door sidelights, primed and painted sidelight and touched-up front door, scraped peeling paint from part of porch railing, primed and painted railing and caulked two large holes around porch lights.

Description of Work: Jeff is JJ Painting: he estimates, he schedules, he does the work, and he follows-up. The quality of the work showed his commitment to detail and ensured the job was done right. Thorough and appropriate power wash. In discussion with Jeff, I replaced 3 weathered boards and 6x6 post-mounted caps. He was willing to do extra the work but I saved money doing it myself. The job was done well as the boards were allowed to dry prior to staining/absorbtion of stain. Jeff's communication was very high: a valuable asset to the job and managing my/my spouse's expectations.

 + 0 moreAfter a few decades of searching, we've finally found a cedar finish contractor that we can count on. We subsequently retained JJ on some follow-on needs in staining and finishing our extensively remodeled master bedroom. We'll update Angie's List when that work is complete.
Description of Work: Our 3-level cedar deck and cedar fencing is over 20 years old. We prefer a clear stain to retain the beauty of the wood. Over those 20 years we've had 3 different contractors; some prior to the availability of rankings, and some with top-rankings. Each of the contractors used a "one coat every so many years" approach. Some quoted the work from photographs and dimensions only, without even seeing the decks and fencing first hand. Some added slight tints to the stain in an attempt to unify the increasingly varying tones of the wood. The net effect was decking and fencing that was too dark in some areas, and too light in others, but we hadn't gotten our arms around why. We called in JJ, based on his high rankings, and told him the cedar needed to be "cleaned and stained" again. Then he asked for a little time to look at the decking and fencing. After about 20 minutes, he came back, quoted us what we asked for, but he also told us that wasn't what we needed, along with his recommendation; JJ's recommendation was about half the cost of what we'd asked for. JJ basically does what the different areas of wood need: from nothing; to staining; to cleaning and staining; to cleaning, sanding, and staining. The net result is a deck that looks better than it ever has. With a few more seasons, we have no doubt JJ will unify the finish on our decking and fencing, it will look better than it ever has, and it will be accomplished with less work and at less cost.

Description of Work: Received an estimate only for power washing and painting deck. Decided to go with another company that does color staining rather than painting. It was less expensive and I think the stain will last longer. So I don't know about the quality of this company's work. The estimating process was professional.

 + 1 moreJeff Hanson is the owner and sole employee of JJ Hanson Painting. He gave us an estimate that was lower than the one I got from a national company, and completely described the process and high-quality materials he uses. I hired him on the spot. We made an appointment to begin work on a day that was convienient for me. Jeff called to say he couldn't make that day because of personal reasons and the need to finish staining a previous job. Because I was in no hurry to get the job done, and I know the job is extremely weather-dependent, this presented no problem for me. Jeff did an excellent job of cleaning and treating our 20-yr-old wood, and came back to do the staining a couple of days after a rain which nessesitated more drying time. He completed the job to my satisfaction, asking me if I wanted some extra support sections stained, and even took the time to dig out and reposition a paver brick which was posing a tripping problem. Even though the dryness of the wood required more stain than Jeff had estimated, he did not attempt to charge me any more that his original quote. Jeff is a hard worker and very particular about doing a proper job. I would gladly hire him again for any work around my home.
Description of Work: Jeff powerwashed, bleached, brightened and stained our front and back decks. He also did our 5 pieces of wooden patio furniture at no additional cost.

 + 0 moreThings went fine. Jeff was careful not to damage the steel siding finish. After the deck dries out, we will do the staining. This is the last of a long list of repairs due to last years hail damage. What a relief!
Description of Work: We needed to have our deck (12X24) power washed due to a hail damage claim. (We also asked that Jeff power wash the lower side of the elevated deck to remove old, loose paint.) My husband happened to be home when Jeff came to do the estimate. It was a bad painting day, and Jeff had time to do the deck immediately.

 + 0 moreJeff actually started the process in the fall of 2008. Unfortunately, with the wet weather, it was difficult to schedule consistent days to work on the deck. Also, after power washing the first time, Jeff was not pleased with the results and suggested that we wait until the spring to continue. The original estimate only called for 1 Power Wash and only having to stain the floor boards and top rails. Unfortunately, after the first power wash, Jeff realized that in order for the work to be done correctly, he would need to do another power wash and stain the deck spindles; otherwise the color difference between the floor, top rails against the spindles would be too different. Because he already gave an estimate and said that this was his mistake, he would only charge us $300.00 over the original estimate to cover a second power wash and the additional stain required. We agreed. Come April 2009, Jeff called and placed us first on his list of projects to complete. Another power washing followed, but with the conflicting reports regarding the possibility of rain, it was difficult for him to schedule completing the project. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, May 17, Jeff was to complete some last minute sanding and finally staining the entire deck.

 + -1 moreThe job Jeff did this summer, at our agreed upon price, was because the product he had used last summer on the deck had not held up, and by the fall, after he'd done the work, the deck looked untreated. He called in early July, as he had agreed, to arrange for a time for him to power wash the area. He power washed one day, then came back a couple days later for the stain. Jeff is hard working and meticulous. He also is a person who stands behind his word.

He was easy to work with, very meticulous and neat. He worked around weather issues and finished the job in time for a family celebration.
Description of Work: Power-washed deck, hand rail, steps & platform. Sanded all surfaces and stripped areas where necessary. Inspected condition of wood and replaced one board. Tightened up platform by installing extra high quality screws. Applied stain to boards of various ages to obtain a more uniform color.

The dark color showed some very faint streaking which sometimes occurs with a very dark color and Jeff reworked the coats until the coverage was as good as possible. He returned the next day to make sure edges didn't show and that everything had dried correctly. Did a little more touch up to get the blending to his liking; was nearly unnoticeable to me. Jeff made sure I was happy with his work before he completely wrapped up. No spills, spatters, clean lines and great coverage. Very professional, he really cares about the quality of his work. Jeff gave me a reminder call, called me if he thought he might be delayed and let me know when he was taking a lunch breaking or getting supplies. Jeff works the ''old fashioned way'': high attention to detail, quality and professional courtesy. Jeff's the only painter I'll be using in the future.
Description of Work: Painting foyer, living room, dining room and hallway. One paint color was dark maroon which can be tricky. Jeff did all the prep work, removed a wallpaper border, patched nail holes, painting (2 coats), cleanup and furnished all supplies. He also moved some large furniture pieces for me.

He even labeled all the aluminum ballisters so I could put them back in easily when the stain was dry. He cleaned up everything when he was done and put my deck furniture back in place. His work was top notch!!
Description of Work: Pressure washed and stained my cedar deck. I had a brand new deck built last year and this season I had another person stain it for me. Botched the job terribly! I called Jeff and he washed it, sanded it where it was needed and restained it. He recommended a new product I hadn't heard of and it turned out beautifully.
