They emailed me ahead of time to confirm the details. Scott arrived exactly on time, with the parts (concrete and posts). All the time he was friendly, enthusiastic, and professional. Oh yes, he also did a great job! It's very tempting to start building a "laundry list" of things to be done around the house and yard, and call in Metro Home Maintenance again!
Description of Work: Install four fence posts. Includes digging post holes, installing posts, concreting in posts, and leveling out the area around the posts. Cost includes labor and parts. Time ($70 per hour) and materials.

Was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment within a week of calling. However, nearly an hour into the scheduled appointment the serviceman didn't show. I called and soon got a reply apologizing for missing it. The serviceman arrived about 1.5-1.75 hours late, but went right to work. To help save time and money, I volunteered to get needed parts while he continued to work; that arrangement worked well. Both work areas were left spotless and the serviceman took the thoughtful extra step of cleaning the tiles before mounting the new sink. I discovered a leak at the sink's drain tube, but it was fixed under warranty two days later when another serviceman (also late) returned to replace tile. The company again proved very knowledgeable, honest and able to do all phases of repair jobs. Communication was great and old sink was removed free as comp for the very late arrival. I just hope they're not getting too popular that they can't schedule and complete jobs on time.
Description of Work: Replaced light switch on ceiling fan; removed old wall-mounted bathroom sink and replaced it with new sink and faucet. The latter project required extra adaptive/replacement parts and replacing mid-20th-century ceramic tile. Project took two visits to complete.

Contractor was five minutes early - first time this has ever happened for me. He finished the work in about 1.5-2.0 hours. He noticed the innards of the door needed some metal lining, and quickly picked up the materials at the neighborhood store (after asking if that was okay). Work looks great! He also removed the existing mailbox and filled the holes - without having to be asked. I will use this company moving forward and recommend to others. I've already recommended to my neighbor who also wants a mail slot. Can't ask for better service.
Description of Work: I was looking to have a mail slot installed in the front door. Door was metal.

Ben showed up at the time of the appointment. We reviewed the projects and he started immediately. He worked efficiently moving from one project to the next. When a light fixture didn't line up straight with the existing wiring, he reviewed options. He was scheduled until noon and had another appointment and explained that a trip to the hardware store may cause him to not finish all my projects. We decided on getting the right part because I could finish the installation, if needed. He was able to finish everything on time.
Description of Work: I had a number of small electrical projects that have been piling up because I didn't have time to complete. Replace a bathroom exhaust fan, install 2 wall/ceiling light fixtures,replace a dozen light switches and install a GFI plug in.

Mark was wonderful to work with. After I made the appointment, I even received automated appointment confirmation emails. I was not home when he did the work, but he called me to give me updates during the process. He went so far as to make sure all the computers in the house were properly shut down (saving my work!!) before he began his. When he discovered the faulty light fixture, he even offered to go out and purchase and install a new fixture for me. I have hired several repair and construction professionals over the years and Mark, by far, was the most pleasant, friendly and professional.
Description of Work: I was doing some work on low-voltage wiring and when I turned on a light switch on that circuit there was a loud POP and a huge power surge on the system. Not something expected with low voltage wiring. I needed someone who could solve the precarious situation. Mark not only finished my low voltage wiring project, but also determined that old wiring on a light fixture on the circuit by coincidence caused the power surge.

The first order was to get the room secured. It originally only had an aluminum door that could be locked. I called a friend of mine who was honest enough to say that I needed a professional to install a permanent frame and steel door. I called Metro Home Maintenance and Mark Cady came out to my home within days to look at the project. He provided me a written estimate and stuck to it. With the information in hand I was able to go to a home improvement store and pick out the door and lock-set that I wanted. Because the door opening was odd it had to be special ordered. Once in I called Mark to set up an installation date. They arrived on time and did the work in a very timely manner. Within a few hours I had my door installed. I was very pleased.
Description of Work: I purchased my home in July of 2006. It's a small home and I readily found out that the attached 3-season room was going to be needed year round.

He was incredibly clean and put down plastic. He handled the fixtures well and had to go through 2 layers of sheet rock.

Metro Maintenance was early to the job site and they sent me Chris who has a state plumbing license. He did the faucet repair quickly even though it was a difficult fix due to supply-line layout. He did an adequate job patching the drywall. It will still need a skilled hand to make it look like new but that was expected. He recommended one of his colleagues - John. I appreciated that Metro Maintenance let me supply materials. This saved me considerably on material charges and markups that I have to endure with some contractors. The actual repair work took about 90 minutes and I was billed for 105 minutes. I really appreciate the affordability and skills of this company. They are especially a great alternative to expensive plumbers for simple cosmetic jobs.
Description of Work: A bathroom faucet was replaced with a new faucet and two large holes in some interior drywall were patched.

I was told she would arrive at 10:00 am, she called me at 9:30 and was on her way. I had requested another thing I wanted done, but Amy discussed some reasons, that that might not be the way I would want to go, but she was more than willing if I did want her to do that. I really appreciate that. I totally felt like Amy, and the company were there to help, get these things done, and not just to make money. Fantastic job.
Description of Work: I had a few odd jobs, I needed some caulking around the base of the tub. I also wanted a light fixture in my basement replaced. The biggest thing was I wanted a place to hang clothes in my front closet. Amy was the person assigned to my job. She was amazing. She called me at work to keep me informed. She also was very conscious about time and basically what my budget was. I came home and there wasn't anything left to even show that anyone had been doing work, other than the great job that was done. I am so happy, I will call them again, without any question.

Sam, who works in the office, is very helpful, knowledgeable, and has good follow up to questions and phone calls. I was able to arrange for a timely at-home inspection to prepare an estimate, but ended up having to wait nearly 2 months before I actually received the estimate -- however, Mark kindly refunded the estimating fee when I expressed concern over delays. When Mark came out to do the work, he did an excellent job, offered lots of extra helpful hints on garage door & dryer maintenance, and tightened up loose nuts and bolts on my garage door without being asked. I will have them back again in the spring to do home exterior work.
Description of Work: Replaced old-style vinyl coil dryer vent with rigid steel pipe. Replaced weatherstripping around garage door. Replaced garage door key-less entry.

Excellent. Since the door became locked with someone in who couldn't get out other than climbing out the window, we were very pleased with the prompt service; less than 24 hrs. after the problem came up. It is unusual to have someone come out for a repair on such short notice. Very accommodating repair person considering we had really botched the door mechanism in trying to fix the problem ourselves.
Description of Work: One of our bedroom doors became locked in place although it was not a lock-type door. We managed to break the doorknob and still could not get the door off. I called the next day and they sent someone out within a half hour. He got the lock mechanism out and replaced the doorknob all within an hour or so.

First, there is no substitute for someone who has both the skill and the will to solve problems. John from Metro has both. He was intrigued to see the finished ceiling because he didn't want to cut a hole or holes looking for the break in the duct. He decided to remove a bathroom ceiling exhaust fan to try to get a glimpse. That worked! He found the break and cleverly cut a very small hole in a linen closet and repaired the break. He then neatly installed a small panel in the closet ceiling. This isn't even a foot square. Then he did what the dryer duct cleaning person who identified the break should have done - he cleaned out the vent from the dryer end. That had a number of turns and was a prime place for lint buildup. So Metro essentially did both their job and the duct cleaning job. I can't say enough positive about Metro's work. From the estimating onward Metro was just great. John was so careful and skilled in how he approached this problem. We are delighted!
Description of Work: Our lengthy dryer duct had come apart somewhere within the ceiling of our finished basement. John had to locate the site of the break, make an opening in the drywall ceiling, repair the duct and close up the ceiling. Further, once this was accomplished it was clear that this wasn't the only problem as the exhaust from the dryer was still minimal. John then removed the dryer from the vent and, with an extra-long vacuum hose he alternately vacuumed and blew out the vent until a large quantity of compacted lint blew out the outside vent. As it turned out, we had two problems, not one, and Metro fixed both problems! Amazing - our dryer (new two years ago) works properly for the first time since we bought the house two years ago. We are lucky that we didn't have a serious problem with this situation - an essentially clogged duct close to the dryer and then a broken duct further along.

They came over to take a look at what I wanted done and gave me a reasonable estimate. Brian came out and got the work done shortly afterwards. He did an excellent job. Everything looks really really good. The work was done within the estimate and I also received an Angie's List discount. I am very happy with the work that was done and I plan on calling Metro Home Maintenance again when I need work done.
Description of Work: Brian from Metro Home Maintenance replaced and painted some damaged siding on my house. Also replaced some damaged molding on a window.

Metro Home maintenance came out and did exactly what we told them to do. The old door came out and was replaced. We handled the trim and finishing work ourselves to save $$$. The person that came out was friendly and easy to work with.

Setting up the appointment was easy, although I had to wait on hold until someone answered, about 5 minutes. They scheduled the appt., confirmed the appt. and sent out a handyman. He called me and indicated they would not recommend repair, but replacement. At the appt. they did estimate for me the cost of a trip charge and time to look at the door. I really needed this done so I agreed but I thought the estimate was high. I was prepared to give them a cc number at the time of the appt., but they did not ask for it. A bill was sent a couple of weeks later. I sent them back the bill with a cc number on it. A week or so later, I get a notice from collections indicated the bill was not paid. CC number was wrong. We're not even talking about two months of time passing. The work was performed around the Oct 23, as I write this, it's Dec 7. I called their office, they indicated they called me and left messages. I got no messages and in return they hinted that I was not being truthful.
Description of Work: I needed a screen door repaired. They went to gather an estimate and recommended no repair, they recommended door replacement.

THE MEMBER DID SEND HER INVOICE BACK WITH AN INVALID CREDIT CARD NUMBER WRITTEN IN HER OWN HAND WRITING. WE TRIED CONTACTING HER VIA TELEPHONE MESSAGES TO HER HOME NUMBER AND WORK NUMBER. MESSAGES WERE LEFT WHICH SHE CLAIMS THAT SHE NEVER RECEIVED. LETTERS WERE ALSO SENT VIA REGULAR MAIL. SHE STILL REFUSED TO CONTACT US TO PAY THE BILL. AS HER BILL WAS NOT PAID IT AUTOMATICALLY ROLLED OVER TO A COLLECTIONS ACCOUNT FOR NON-PAYMENT. ALL OF OUR WORK IS DONE C.O.D AND IT IS STATED THAT WAY ON THE BILLING. WHEN SHE CALLED SHE WAS RUDE, DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH, AND SHOUTED PROFANITIES. SHE FURTHER CONTRADICTED HERSELF AS THE DATES KEPT CHANGING OF WHEN SHE ALLEGEDLY SENT THINGS IN (THEY ARE ONCE AGAIN CHANGED IN HER COMMENTS HERE.) OUR PERSON FINALLY HAD TO TELL HER THEY WERE NOT GOING TO CONTINUE TO ARGUE WITH HER OR TOLERATE HER LANGUAGE. WE WAIVED THE LATE FEES AS A COURTESY, IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT APPRECIATED AND IN HINDSIGHT THIS PERSON DID NOT DESERVE THAT COURTESY! IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT SHE HAD NO INTENTION OF CORRECTING THE CREDIT CARD SITUATION OR RETURNING ANY OF OUR CALLS OR LETTERS UNTIL SHE GOT AN INITIAL LETTER FROM OUR COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THAT NO BUSINESS DOES ANY WORK WITH HER UNLESS IT IS CASH UP FRONT FOR THE WORK AND EVEN THEN IT IS QUESTIONABLE.

Everyone was very pleasant at the company from the receptionist (who said she loved her job) to the workmen to the owner. Mark, the owner, came out to do the estimate and was quite knowledgeable about almost all of our issues. He said up front that he subcontracts and that it might take a while for the final estimate because he had to check with everyone. The final estimate was very detailed and in writing and very fair. Everyone who came to work on the house was courteous and everyone cleaned up which was wonderful. The work was quick and was always done before the estimated time. I had some questions about the radiator flush and Mark came out and re-flushed all the lines personally and checked on the downstairs radiators that were repaired. He always had good advice about other things in the house as well. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend them and hire them again.
Description of Work: They re-did our carport roof and angled it, replaced our kitchen faucet, installed a kitchen vent, replaced a kitchen light fixture, rebuilt the bathroom faucet, siliconed around the bathtub, cut and glued on a piece of bathroom tile, flushed our radiator/heating system, replaced a leaking water valve downstairs that led to the outdoor faucet and replaced 2 radiator valves downstairs. They were always on time and, in fact, usually called to ask if they could come earlier. While it took a while for the estimate to come through, once they gave us a price, they scheduled us within two weeks and got all the work done over the span of two weeks. The estimate was extremely reasonable given all the work we had done. Some of the other companies we called never even returned our initial phone calls to set up estimates. I also corresponded often via email which was much more convenient than calling.

I checked out Metro Home Maintenance for handyman service and clicked onto their website through the link provided on the Angie's List page. They had an email form, so I filled it out, sent it and waited for a response. That was four weeks ago. To date, I haven't heard from Metro Home Maintenance. I did call their phone number a week ago and got their voice mail. But I didn't bother to leave a message on the theory that if they don't respond to emails, they probably don't bother with voice mail either. I was trying to get some exterior work done before we got snow. So timeliness was important. I don't understand why contractors don't at least return emails and phone calls of customers trying to contact them. Even if they are too busy to do the work at that time, or are unable to perform the type of work one is seeking help with. It's not only a small courtesy, but saves the homeowner time as well when she/he's looking for someone to do a job. Really disappointing and unprofessional.
Description of Work: I was seeking a handyman to fix the trim on an exterior basement window as well as complete the trim around recently installed bedroom windows and a door. I was also looking for a tile layer to replace the cracked ceramic tiles in my kitchen floor.

Job 1: The handymen from Metro Home Maintenance completed plumbing & electrical work, new light fixtures installation, & hanging several pictures. I was so pleased with their high-quality that I will call them first. An appt. was scheduled 2 days after my call, & I was impressed with the responsiveness & timeliness. Chris did the work, & he was efficient & professional. Job 2: Amy was quick & efficient in assembling the oak coffee table. It was worth it to have Metro Home Maintenance assemble the coffee table because it saved me unnecessary time & stress. I especially appreciated how Amy cleaned up the furniture's packing material & cardboard box, placed the materials near my garbage cans. I continue to be impressed with their consistent high-quality work, focus on customer service, satisfaction & prompt response. The company is GREAT! I would definitely hire them again & recommend them to other people who want premier handyman service.
Description of Work: Job 1: Installed two light fixtures -- chandelier in kitchen breakfast nook and ceiling light in front entry way. Hung three certificates on the wall. Caulked crack in exterior foundation.($90.) Job 2: Assembled a do-it-yourself oak coffee table. Stabilized an end table top that I had incorrectly assembled.($160.)

The only glitch was that the replacement bathroom vent fan we had purchased did not fit what was in the ceiling. Chris recommended we use a different motor and grill that he could retrofit to the existing housing. He went to a supply store to buy it, which added to the time we had to pay for ($64.50 an hour). He explained that we could get it and install it ourselves, now that he had showed us how, but we opted to have him do it.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet, a bathroom fan and a doorbell button.

Overall everything went very well. They were on time and finished an hour earlier than planned. Easy to work with and they really work with you consulting as they go to insure that things are done the way you want them. Very nice people. $272.16 of the cost was to hang the TV. Having researched that cost I think the price for their work was very fair.
Description of Work: Two jobs were performed. On the exterior, wood stain from the deck planking overhead had dripped down on the new siding and trim that surround my patio. All of it was washed down and most of the stain was removed. My Association had painted the white over head cross beams where stain had run down from the above planking before Metro could get to them. However, my Association's painters did not remove the stain, apply a stain blocker and then paint the beams so the stains are bleeding through their paint job. I will gladly have Metro do the correct job in the Spring. The second job was hanging an LCD TV on the wall and running cable through the wall. This was tricky due to the location where I wanted the TV to go but they did the job and it looks great.

I can only say, I've not had such professional, friendly, honestly helpful service, in a long time. Much less, without added unexpected costs. This was gratis. Best I can do, is highly refer this company.
Description of Work: Chris came out to hook up a vintage phone, so the light would work with the transformer, already in the house. After trying to help me do it myself over the phone, he offered to come over on his way home. For what would have been at least a 100.00 service call, Chris performed for free.
