The company installed the garage doors in 1989. This particular service call was late on a Friday afternoon. Prompt response, reasonable price, pleasant attitude on the part of the technician, and a good job.
Description of Work: On this occasion, I arrived home at approximately 3:45 PM, drove into the garage, then at about 4:00 my wife heard a loud noise. On investigation the large counterbalance spring on the door had broken. Called the company, was told that a service tech would arrive before 5:30. He did, the repair was done in about 20 minutes.

We called this company to come and fix the door opener and they came out promptly. The repair person determined that the problem was that one of the "eyes" of the opener was out of alignment and that it was our fault. He claimed that it had been bumped - a fact that we dispute. The service person proceeded to tighten a screw to fix the problem and bill us for a whopping $92. We did not bump the eye and feel that the screw was not properly tightened when the opener was installed. Two days later we received a "non lien" notice in the mail for the $92. We paid this $92 but feel that it is unfortunate that we hired this company in good faith to install the door opener and were not treated fairly - what can you do when a company determines that they are right and you are wrong. There is a lot of competition in the door opener business but this company's business must be so good that they feel they can treat their customers poorly.
Description of Work: This company installed a new garage door opener which functioned form 76 days.

We were called on May 9th, 2011 indicating they were having a problem with a garage door opener we installed February 28th, 2011. We sent a technician out the same day. Bryan found one of the photo eyes (safety sensor) had been hit and knocked almost completely off the track, pointing 90 degrees out of alignment with the sensor on the opposite track. Bryan showed [this member] the problem, realigned the eyes, and tested the opener for proper operation. Then, Bryan (who has more than 14 yrs experience) explained to [this member] that the work is not covered by warranty. because the problem was a result of someone striking the photo eye. [this member] refused to pay the bill. [this member] claims we tightened a screw to remedy the problem. That is incorrect. We repositioned the spring clamp on to the door track If it had not been properly attached or tightened during the original installation, it would not have operated for 2 months with no problems. It is unreasonable to expect us to provide free service to fix a problem caused by them striking the photo eye. We billed the [this member’s] our minimum service charge, which was both warranted and reasonable.

They were great about emailing (wife works overnights and sleeps during day so any phone ringing is bad). They told us between 11am-1pm via email, I replied to say that would be great. They called in the morning to say it would be here by 1pm. At 130pm I called them to check on the status. They said we were scheduled between 12pm - 2pm (I have the email saying 11-1) and that he was 20 minutes out. I had to leave for work so we had to cancel and will obviously never go back. The reason we scheduled it when we did is our work schedules. If they couldn't make it when they promised we actually would have given them another chance if they had bothered to call. But when we have to call you when you're late and then you tell us something different than we have in writing from you....not the kind of place we do business with...

My apologies to the members for the inconvenience we caused. We try to keep our time windows tight (2 hours VS the common 4 hrs or Xcel's 8 hr window) so we are not trapping folks at home waiting for us. Unfortunately jobs are sometimes more extensive than how they are described over the phone. When we have someone's door torn apart and laying in pieces on the floor we can't just say "sorry I have another job I need to leave for" and take off. Doing 30-40 service calls a day we run into some basket cases that screw our timing. Unfortunately none of that helps the members who were also in a time jamb. Again my apologies. Steve Donohue Owner

Phoned in at 7AM on Thursday for repair. Brian called back and said he would be at our house between 2-4PM on Thursday. He showed up at 3 and was gone by 3:40. Great service at a reasonable price. Explained in detail all work. Great experience!

It went way more smoothly than I ever could have imagined.
Description of Work: I had left my garage door opener in my car and shut the garage door. My garage doesn't have a service door so Kirby from Great Garage Door Co had to rig a coat hanger with a hook on the end and was able to get into my garage in about 2 minutes. He then installed a new lock with a wire so I can get in if I ever have this problem in the future.

I called in on Sunday and they had someone at my house on Monday at 8 Am. Note that emergency service only applies to Commercial customers. Dan was the technician and he did a great job. He replaced the 2 springs very quickly. I noticed that he checked one of the tracks for alignment and adjusted it. Total time for the work was about 35 minutes. It would have been faster but I had to move 2 cars out of the garage after he got the door open so he could get to the springs. I am very satisfied with the work and will use the company again.

I had a really great experience with this company. After getting several quotes they came in the lowest for the service I needed. The day of the installation they were down one person so Aaron came out alone to install the garage door and he was incredibly personable, friendly and worked quickly to complete the job. We needed add'l work after the chain in the garage door snapped. The company worked to get us the part and get it installed the next day! Great customer service.

Salesperson was informative and answered all questions. They could clamp the spring within hours so the door could be opened and closed until new door installed for $79 ($35 rebated if they were contracted to install door). He offered a free keyless entry pad to match another company's offer and put it on the quote. The service person charged me $89 instead of $79 after clamping the spring, but it was good to be able to get the cars in the garage. The salesperson told me to expect a call at 7:15 am to give me a time for installation on the installation date. I called them to tell them I had to postpone because my car battery died and I could not get it out of the garage. The installer already had the door loaded on his truck and said he would roll my car out of the garage. The installation went wonderfully except the keyless entry pad was not included on the invoice, so the installer did not have it with him. He arranged to have it installed the next day if I would leave the service door unlocked and they would lock up after they were done. I foolishly paid in full. The keyless entry pad was not installed the next day. I called every working day after leaving my service door unlocked all day and having them say it would be installed the next day. They had lost the paperwork and were short staffed trying to cover their state fair booth. The scheduling person asked me "why I was so dependent on a keyless entry pad". The pad was finally installed a week after the door and the door opener.
Description of Work: Salesperson had to come to house to measure and give quote. Had example sections of garage doors and was informative and answered all questions. Quote for 16' x 7', white, short panel Endurance Thermo Classic insulated with 25 gauge steel on both sides (lower gauge is thicker), wind loaded to meet state/city code with Liftmaster 3265M opener and keyless entry pad available within days for installation $1324.

First let me apoligise for any inconvience we caused. We work very hard to try to make things go as smothly as possiable, occasionaly things fall through the cracks. We did the member's job on 9/2/10, the Thursday before Labor Day. We blew it and did not get the notation for the keyless on her invoice so the tec did not have it with him. Unfortunatly the tec had Friday off so we did not become aware of the problem untill the member called (the tec's do not come back to the office until their next work day). We did get the keyless installed on Wednesday the 3rd working day after installing the door and opener.

Wonderful, greatly enjoy the fact I can call, give them my credit card information, I do not need to be present. They make a very "ill timed issue" easily resolved and extremely stress free.

They were prompt and courteous. The door after looked good - you cannot tell the older panels from the new. I did think the price was high considering it was 75% of what I paid for a whole new door, tracks and install in 2004. They came back after a couple weeks because the door was squeaking loudly when opening and closing. They responded promptly and fixed the problem.

Our garage door was getting stuck halfway up. We called to schedule service at 8:30am. Although we didn't request same day service, they scheduled us for some time between noon to 2pm. The technician arrived shortly after noon. He introduced himself (name of "Christian") and I described and demonstrated the main problem of the door sticking. I said that I thought one of the springs might have snapped. I also told him about a minor problem that happened on three of the coldest days last winter...that the door would open, but would not close without "coaxing" it using the wall switch. Christian said he would check everything out. He immediately confirmed that one of the springs had broken. As was recommended in several articles I had read about garage door repairs, Christian said that he would replace both springs. While Christian was working, our 11 year old daughter watched him and asked questions. Christian explained everything he was doing to our daughter. Several times he had her move to a safer viewing point. After replacing the springs, Christian saw that the cable on the same side as the broken spring had too much slack in it. Although we know that the door and opener had been installed in October 2004, it was done by the previous owners of our home. We wanted the repair "done right" and had Christian also replace both cables. With the new cables, he was able to get the tension on both cables. Christian then adjusted the door opener so that all of the safety features worked properly. While working on the opener, he noticed that one of the bulbs was flickering and he was able to fix that as well - an no, it wasn't just a loose bulb - rather, a connector needed adjusting. Once everything was working correctly, Christian then walked us through how and where to lubricate the door to ensure proper maintenance. Last, Christian told us about the warranty for each part and for his service. An excellent experience!

They did not show up and they did not call, that is my complaint. They seem disorganized. When I called they didn?t even know I was scheduled, even though I scheduled last Friday to have this done and talked to them today. The left hand didn?t seem to know what the right hand was doing. It made me nervous so I canceled with them.

I am sorry that we disappointed you. I have gone back and looked at your job. You spoke to Brian D. in the office to order the garage door opener on Fri. Bryan R. (the service tec) spoke with someone at your house Monday between 7:30-8:00AM and arranged to be there between 10:00-12:00. Unfortunately Bryan R ran into a job that was much worse than we expected and ran late getting to you. That was when you canceled the work. I completely understand your frustration about timing but unfortunately there is simply nothing that we can do when a job turns out to be much longer than we could anticipate. With your material loaded on Bryan R's truck all we could do was finish the difficult job and get to you as soon as he was free. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience we caused you. We wanted something that looked like wood and was just a bit different from all the others in the neighborhood. The sales person came out twice. He brought samples and plenty of pictures. He explained everything. There were no hidden costs and no surprises. The new door included the new rail/track, springs, etc. plus removal and disposal of the old door and reattaching of the existing opener. I asked for addresses of area places where this particular door we wanted had been installed. He provided those within a day. I was able to see a couple and talk to one very pleased homeowner.
Description of Work: We needed to replace our old wooden garage door, have the old one removed, existing opener reattached. All that happened exactly as planned and expected. We wanted a new door with some windows and to look a little different than all the other "new" doors in the neighborhood. Both salesman and installer came exactly on time and did exactly what was expected. It couldn't have been any better.

One late afternoon in mid December, the torsion spring on my garage door broke. I called Great Garage Door Co. who had installed the door 20 years ago. They came out the day I called and installed the garage door opener. They ordered the new garage door and installed it two weeks later as promised. They did not give me the packet of warranty information on the new door the day it was installed because the installer did not have it with him. The installer said he would make a note on the receipt and have the warranty sent to me. I called my salesman a week later because I did not receive the warranty and he said he would mail it to me. I called the office 2 weeks later because I did not receive the warranty and was told they would mail it to me tomorrow. I called the office again 1 week later and was told that the post office had returned it to them because they ruined it and they would mail it again. I finally received the warranty a week later. Therefore, it took 3 phone calls and more than a month for me to receive warranty information that I should have gotten when the door was installed. During each phone call I felt that getting the warranty information to me was not a priority for them. Their service was very good ( prompt and courteous) but the way I was treated in regard to the warranty did not leave me with a good feeling about the company.

We found GGDC at the MN State Fair while looking at home improvements/remodeling booths. We were remodeling the exterior of our home looking at windows, siding, gutters, etc. We knew that we also needed to replace the old wooden double garage door. GGDC was having a state fair special price. We saw the garage door/window samples which was very helpful. Rob the sales rep came to our home to measure and answer our questions. A few days before Rob came out the garage door finally failed. Both cables snapped, six rollers were bent and twisted, and a steel track bracket ripped from the wall. Within a week technician Dan K came out to install our new double garage door. GGDC was scheduled to come out at 8:30 am on Tuesday morning. The company called and said they were still working on the Sherrwood windows and would be out between noon - 2:00 pm. Technician Dan K showed up at noon and was very polite and efficient. Dan completed the whole job in about two hours. Dan also took the time to answer all my questions. We are very pleased with the installation and the over all look of the garage door. We would hire this company again for future work or repairs.

Our garage door fell off its tracks on the coldest day of the year. I called Great Garage Door Co the same day and they offered to have a person out at my home same day. We weren't available until the follow day however we had a full schedule. Steve offered to have someone call me before to give me a better estimate of their arrival. The technician that arrived was professional and detailed in his explanation. The condition of the door required extra time and he worked for an hour in minus 20 temperatures. He spent time reviewing with me the work he had done and the recommended remaining work that would be required to resolve structural issues. The recommendations were documented along with the needed measurements. Given their service, I plan to hire this firm again to purchase and install a new door.
Description of Work: Realigned tracks and installed new cables in order to get existing garage door back in working order. Also provided a detailed description of future options to address the original installation problems with the current door and the aging mechanisms.
