The representative from Total Comfort arrived on time and was very personable. We had been uncertain as to the age of the existing furnace in our home and also aspects of its installation. We also had questions on replacement, or future replacement, with upgraded air cleaning technology and furnace models with higher efficiency ratings. The representative looked at our furnace and determined it was not as old as we thought. He provided us with information and made recommendations for what we should be thinking about in terms of replacement. He also answered our questions on our current air conditioner so that we can plan for that, too. The experience was good and as a result we are planning to have Total Comfort perform our annual furnace tune-up.
Description of Work: At our request, Total Comfort sent a representative to assess our furnace system for possible replacement.

Steve was over 1 hour late. I had to call to see if he remembered. He was very thorough and went through every room of our house. He was very knowledgeable on the systems. We decided to go with a Bryant due to being overall cheaper but more importantly that they had a 95% efficient furnace vs the Trane's 80%.
Description of Work: Got estimate for a Trane AC and furnace.

Our service guy Jason came within hours of my call. He was quite respectful to me, the house and the equipment. He went through a complete check list of things that could have been going on. The conclusion was our 20+ central air conditioner had served us well past the average and it was time to replace. He gave us a number of someone to call to set that up. Though we did not use them for the install I would have been fine with it. The only thing I would recommend was make sure of the price up front. I had told them I had a coupon from Craig's List. Apparently on certain days, the service charge is higher than others and my coupon for $25.00 was included as that day was a higher priced day. It was not an unreasonable charge either way.
Description of Work: Our central air was working at less than full capacity. It came with the house and was more than 20 years old. It seems there was nothing that could be done to improve cooling though our service rep Jason spent a couple of hours trying on a very warm day. He explained why it probably was not working as well as last year. They were out the same day I called. I would recommend them.

Job 1: It was below zero outside that morning. The furnace stopped working during the night. I appreciate that Brad from Total Comfort was able to come to my house that morning. Brad went outside and cleared the ice off the blocked furnace intake pipe and replaced a weak igniter on the furnace. Job 2: It went well. Brad did a good job.
Description of Work: Job 1: The furnace stopped working. Brad came to my house and cleared ice from blocked furnace intake pipe and replaced igniter on the furnace.($297.54). Job 2: Tune up of central air and furnace. Brad inspected and cleaned central air and furnace. Brad installed a part on a/c to help make a/c run more efficiently.($372.)

It went very well. Timely and professional. Thank you again.
Description of Work: Gary came out to our house and showed us all the different types of furnaces and AC units and their price ranges. He helped us find the system that was best for out house. The very next day his installers were out to the house and started the job. Joel and even, sorry if I misspelled your names, were very professional and did a very thorough job. After installation, they explained how to operate everything. I am very pleased with the equipment and service. Great job guys. Thank you.

L/M on company voicemail Sunday night, receptionist called back Monday morning 7:15 AM & issued work out to a tech. The tech did not call back until 9:30 AM - had called another heating company by then. Tech from Total Comfort made it out & did repair by 10:15 AM, so other company missed out. Looks like the other company would have been $30 more, since I didn't have a coupon for them.

THE CLIENT CALLED AND SCHEDULED A FURNACE TUNE-UP RATHER THAN A FURNACE INSPECTION AS MENTIONED. ON DECEMBER 7, 2006 OUR TECHNICIAN FOUND MULTIPLE CRACKS IN THE HEAT EXCHANGER, AND THE FURNACE PRODUCED HIGH LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE. OUR TECHNICIAN SHOWED THE LOCATION OF THE CRACKS TO THE CLIENT. WHENEVER OUR TECHNICIANS FIND PROBLEMS THAT ARE A POSSIBLE HEALTH THREAT, WE CONDEMN THE EQUIPMENT. WE SHUT THE GAS AND POWER OFF TO THE UNIT BECAUSE OF LIABILITY. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CLIENT NOT TO OPERATE THE FURNACE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED OR REPLACED. WE QUOTED THE CLIENT $129.95 FOR THE TUNE-UP WITH $25.00 OFF WITH ANGIE'S LIST COUPON AT THE TIME THE APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. AT THE ACTUAL APPOINTMENT WE CHARGED HIM $99.95 FOR THE TUNE-UP. OUR TECHNICIAN DISCUSSED THE REPAIR COST WITH THE CLIENT. OUR SERVICE MANAGER CALLED THE CLIENT TO DISCUSS HIS DISSATISFACTION WITH OUR COMPANY. THE CLIENT APPEARED TO BE UPSET BECAUSE WE FOUND THE CRACKS IN THE HEAT EXCHANGER.

Installation of our new furnace was flawless; the installers were excellent, they cleaned up afterward and did an excellent job showing us how to use the features of our new furnace. The following spring we purchased a new air conditioner from the same company and our experience was equally as good. We would highly recommend them, especially based upon their prompt service when we had a cold house.
Description of Work: We initially phoned this company on New Year's Eve because our furnace was not working and it was very cold in our house. They responded immediately (it was 5:00 AM) and sent someone out. They fixed the problem and we had heat for the holiday! We knew our furnace was on it's last leg and we asked them to quote us on a new one. After researching furnaces and quotes from other companies, we decided to buy from Total Comfort. The fact that they were the only company that returned our call the morning our furnace went out had a lot of bearing on our decision. Their service was superb.

Total comfort doesn't install the water heaters themselves. They sub-contracted out. Unfortunately, we hit a snag in what Total Comfort promised and what the installation team could provide. We had to have a new quote submitted, which was a lot more than we expected (moving where the water heater was going to be installed, not a simple swap-out). However, Total Comfort was willing to negotiate on the price untill we felt comfortable with the new quote. The installation plumber was willing to work with us to get the new water heater installed on a very tight timeline after all the issues the first time around. Everything ended up working out okay in the end, but we had to take extra time off of work to be at the house for two install dates, instead of one.

The repair response was very good. The quality and efficiency of the installers was very good. The unit ordered was not in warehouse stock, so they substituted the next level up outside unit. Unfortunately, this unit did not match the coil they installed, and overall efficiency went down. The end result was a loss of $150 rebate from Xcel. The original order called out a system that would generate a $300 rebate. I feel they errored in not informing me prior to installation and therefore allowing me the option of upgrading the coil as well.
Description of Work: They replaced the central a/c outside condenser/fan unit and installed a new internal coil.

The repair person came out on a Thurs, determined what the problem was, gave me options & I decided to replace my 16-year-old system. He then got the sales person out same day. Steve was here over three hrs answering my questions & explaining what/ why & options (a great experience). The installers (Ali/Driss)came that Thurs & had the air conditioner up & running before they left (which they said they would when they came). They arrived when Steve said they would, called ahead to let me know they were coming, trucks were ID'd as Total Comfort, they removed their shoes, put tarps down, were extremely pleasant, cleaned up when finished & answered many questions. They told me when they came Tues am they would have to return a 2nd day to finish. They returned the following Monday (my choice of day)& did the duct work and got the furnace/humidifier up & running. They were excellent service people - knew what they were doing. The A/C is reducing humidity & evening the temp in the house.
Description of Work: Total Comfort installed a new furnace, air conditioner, and humidifier. They did a number of upgrades to improve the quality and safety of the system (surge protector on the furnace, new ducting for outside air - that meets current code, new double wall pipes, etc) rather than just connecting up to what was there. I have had Total Comfort for years for maintenance and they have noted several things that were wearing and could be suspect to the 16 year old system's longevity. Because of this, I was not entirely surprised when my air conditioner "died" last week. Although the price is a large amount, I feel I easily got my money's worth in the warranties (very long), the discounts, the energy rebate, and in the energy savings going forward. I was very pleased when Steve came by the second installation day to see how everything was going - this is quality service.

TC did good work - very clean and efficient. The only problem encountered was that we were the second job of the day on a Friday, and we were told to expect them between 12pm and 2pm. The worker did not arrive until late in the afternoon, around 4pm, and stated that he did not have the correct parts for the job when he arrived. He rescheduled the job for the following Monday, and completed the work efficiently and well.

While having our roof replaced on the house we just purchased, the roofers removed some rotten boards and discovered that the A/C ductwork (installed 2 years ago) had come loose. This was at 4 pm. We called Total Comfort, and they sent the original installer out the first thing the following day. Given the potential for condensation, mold, and other evils that could have occurred, we were pleased that Total Comfort was so responsive. While you could say the installation might have been the cause, it's an old house and this was a challenging installation, they were the only ones willing to do it in the first place, according to the previous owner. Assuming the problem stays fixed, I'd give them high marks for backing up their work in a professional manner. NOTE: The "A" for quality of work relates to the repair only. The "C" for responsiveness is because we had to initially call back twice before getting to a person (the COO) to took care of our problem.

We had placed the call under emergency service, and Brad was here within an hour. He was very polite and extremely knowledgeable. He not only fixed the problem, but he helped to diagnose why it was happening as well as give us advice on how to perform routine maintenance. Total Comfort was very reasonably priced, and I will be a customer for life.
Description of Work: Brad came over and diagnosed the problem with the furnace. The pressure switch was gumming up, and he fixed it. He did not stop there. He went the extra mile to figure out why the problem was happening. We found that it was a ceiling pipe involved in the exhaust process that was not properly dispensing the water from the exhaust. This was way above and beyond actually fixing the furnace.

Poor. Salesman was very nice. Described experienced crew and seemed to know about how to install the HRV. A different crew showed up, young and not so experienced. Left ducts hanging, not well secured, got insulation all over clothing, etc., in closet after I told them I would move anything that needed moving. I was told that the controls could not be remotely. After the install I read the book and it said the unit could be removed from the HRV and installed within 100 ft. Controls were on the side of the unit and where they installed it you would have to be a contortionist to see them. I also noticed that the lower lever was significantly colder, which was the opposite effect I was told would result from adding the LL returns. TC returned to try to make adjustments but clearly is out of their league in installing HRV's. I have to run the unit 24 hrs., and run the furnace fan 24 hrs., or it pulls in 40 degree air into the furnace when the furnace fan is on and the HRV not on.

I am surprised this company is so highly rated by others. The estimate I was given seemed completely out of line. I was quoted $3600 for a new furnace--single stage 80% efficient. I was told a new air conditioner would be an additional $5000. When I said I wanted to get additional estimates I was told it could be a week before they could do the work if I did not decide today. When I called a different company for an estimate I found I could get a much better furnace for less money ($3100 for a two stage 92% efficient furnace, a more reliable company manufacturing it; $2700 for the central air). I feel this company tried to take advantage of our situation and charge an outrageous amount of money. I can't help but wonder if they thought they could take advantage of the fact that I was dealing with them and not my husband and that we had 2 children in an unheated house in November. To top it all off, they failed to give me my Angie's List discount for the repair job.
Description of Work: I called Total Comfort to have them come and inspect our furnace as it did not seem to be operating quite right---it was cycling on and off in very short intervals. The repairman who came out found a number of things wrong, most significantly a cracked heat exchanger which meant our 26 year old furnace would need to be replaced. The repairman red tagged our furnace which meant we were not supposed to operate it anymore.
