Total Comfort Heating and Cooling

I asked for an free estimate of zones and thermostats for two apartments that needed to be replaced. I was told I would receive estimates by email that evening. I never heard from the technician again and the heat went out that night after this technician inspected it that afternoon. I had to call another company not from Angie's List. I'm disappointed I purchased a membership from Angie's List as this was my first experience with Angie's list.

Installer arrived on time and very professionally removed old unit and installed new one. He explained everything as he did the work and was also very friendly. We are very satisfied.

When we sold our home in Oct. of 2015 we were informed that we would have to pay for the full price of $189 for the spring air conditioner tune-up since our contract anniversery date was April. When I expressed that this didn't seem fair that we would have to pay full price after being on the service plan for almost 5 years and purchasing our furnace / air conditioner from them. Laura Katz said that information was included in the contract that I signed. That information wasn't mentioned in the sales pitch or is it included in the information on their web site! I don't think much of a company that relies on fine print and high pressure sales tactics! I would not recommend purchasing your furnace and air conditioner from this company and certainly do not purchase their service contracts!

Both Jan and Glen were timely, considerate and hard workers with the necessary knowledge to install quickly and efficiently.

Project went very well once they re-figured out they had my phone number incorrectly listed. Very courteous and made sure I was up to speed with any changes to the project.

The technician was excellent and very through. My unit is older and still working but I wanted to make sure it would last through the cooling season.

...and I was shocked to hear what they had to say. They gave me two quotes: $1800 if they do all of the work (with warranty), and $600 if they only pump down the AC(no warranty, I disconnect electrical and move). They went on to say that they should do all of the work because electrical is tricky(I'm an engineer who has done plenty of electrical), the AC unit is heavy(I've lifted it before to level the unit) and people could steel the unit of I leave it outside (if that is true why don't I hear of this happening more often when they are hooked up). I've called around and several business would do this job for $600 to $800 with a warranty. I'm all about a fair price for a job but these guys are outrageous.

The measure of a truly good business is how they handle a mistake/problem. Seeing as how none of us are perfect (while maybe my wife is), mistakes/problems will sometimes arise. It's how a business reacts to that situation that demonstrates their level of professionalism. We had a gentlemen (I can't remember his name) from Total Comfort come out and give us an estimate on replacing our old A.O. Smith direct vent water heater with a new Rheem equivalent model. Apparently they was a lack of communication on his or my part and what Total Comfort ended up installing was a non-direct vent water heater (direct vent models take the combustion air from the outside and exhausts to the outside-a sealed system). It only took one email to Ms. Adams at Total Comfort to get an immediate and professional response. She and Total Comfort took full responsibility for the error and shortly thereafter they removed the non-direct vent water heater and installed the one which we wanted. There was an upcharge of several hundred dollars for the difference between the cost of the two water heaters (perfectly understandable seeing as how the direct vent is nearly twice the cost of the non-direct vent model). They "went over the top" with giving us a free HVAC tune up which was greatly appreciated and totally unexpected. That gentleman was here the other day and was very professional, and gave us some good advice on keeping our rather sophisticated HVAC system in good operating condition. I rated Total Comfort a "B" in price as being a fair price. I'm sure you could locate a business that would do it for less, but would that business be there afterwards if you had an issue? Total Comfort certainly was there for us. Having this admittedly rather complicated issue (after all, they had to take back a newly installed water heater) Ms. Adams and Total Comfort never questioned us or tried to shift the blame. They made this issue a non-issue and we couldn't be happier.

I purchased a coupon to use for an air conditioning check and refill. My new air conditioner (installed by another company) wasn't working. After speaking with the George, he suggested that I actually contact the company who had installed 9 months earlier because it should have been under warranty. George was very helpful. He saved me a bunch of money. I asked him about a code compliance issue with an HVAC system that I was working on on another property. I emailed him the details of what needed to be done but I actually didn't hear back on if he was able to provide an estimate. While that part was disappointing, I still really appreciated that George was upfront with me and gave me great advice on the air conditioning system that I had purchased the big deal for. Again, he was friendly and very helpful over the phone. I'd use them in the future.

They looked over my unit and let me know there weren't any issues, but the unit was old. It was quick and punctual. The fact that they didn't try to sell me anything else either will definitely have me using them again.

Purchased A/C inspection through Angies List and scheduled the service for two days later. Service tech made it over within the 4 hour window given. Called several times before hand to update me when he'd make it which was much appreciated. Was friendly, clearly knew what he was doing, completed the inspection which found several worn out parts and even cleaned out a mouse nest. He recommended replacing some of the worn parts (you also never know what the mice may have gotten into) and offered a deal on a hard-starter. I normally wouldn't replace much or add a hard-starter, but given the age of the unit and critters, I went ahead an did it. I could tell a difference right away in how fast the house cooled down and the A/C unit is a bit quieter outside. Overall, glad I invested the money to get many more years of use out of the A/C.

HVAC check and tuneup went well. Great service. I would use them again.

Over the course of the past fifteen years, they successfully installed two new Trane heating and air conditioning systems in our home. Both installations went very well and we were especially pleased with the fine work that the Total Comfort Team (Brad, Ean, Piotr and Keith) did in introducing us to and then installing our most recently highly updated Trane system. As usual the new work was excellently completed in a timely manner within the guidelines of our Total Comfort Preferred Client Club membership.

Prompt, conscientious, courteous. From the initial contact with Home Depot to the final walk through with Chad and Glenn this was an outstanding customer service experience. Brad, Jenny, Andrew, Chad, Glen, Corey, and Jeff were a pleasure to deal with. Congratulations on a great job!

Our air conditioner quit working on a warm June Sunday and we called Total Comfort the next morning. We had used them for air conditioner and furnace service over the past few years so I already had high expectation based on previous experience. After reviewing the issue with the technician I decided it was time to replace the Air Conditioner and Furnace. While it wasn't an emergency--the temperature was moderate--we were scheduled to have a house full of people for the upcoming weekend when the temperature was forecast to be in the upper 80s. Total Comfort went above and beyond my lofty expectations to get me the equipment I needed in time. First, Steve came by a couple of hours later to discuss my options. He asked thoughtful, probing questions about our past heating and cooling needs and recommend the best alternative. It was by no means the most expensive alternative. At no time did we feel any pressure to buy a more expensive option. Steve was thorough and very knowledgeable. We completed the paperwork and scheduled installation for 7:30 am the following Friday. Promptly at the prescribed date and time Scott K. arrived and began the job. Scott showed himself to be a complete and total professional and was completely respectful of our home, and kept us advised as to his progress. When he finished he thoroughly explained the nuance of the new system and made sure we knew everything we needed to know (system operation, warranty, etc.) and that all of our questions were answered. Before he left he made sure everything was clean and in its place. He left things as he found them. In summary, we have used Total Comfort's maintenance services for years and will continue to do so. While I hope I never have to replace major components again we would not hesitate to use them if the need arose. We would also strongly recommend them to anyone with maintenance, repair or replacement needs.

It went great. On the day the work was scheduled, they phoned to let me know they'd be there in approx. 20 minutes. It was nice to have the heads up! They arrived on time and explained what they were going to do and then went to work. They were respectful and careful about my carpet, putting tarps down, and wearing shoe/boot covers, even though the carpeting is older and needs to be replaced. There were no surprises. Both of the guys who came out were great to work with. I would recommend them and would hire them again.

Install was great. Very knowledgeable and professional installer. Poor communication from company after the money was paid. Update - The company followed after my review and resolved the problem. I would recommend this company for installing a mini-split system.

Received a phone call prior to arrival. Josh worked efficiently and completed everything within an hour. He reviewed the work completed and his assessment of the condition. We are very pleased.

This purchase and installation process went very well from beginning to end. First, we met with Steve Hawes, who evaluated our heating and cooling needs and proposed a system design. Steve is very well versed in HVAC technology. We felt comfortable that he had our best interests in mind throughout the entire process. Next, Total Comfort secured the necessary permit to perform the work. A couple of days before the scheduled installation, we received a confirmation call from a very pleasant employee in the home office. Ean and Scott arrived on time on installation day fully prepared for the day's work. I had planned on spending the day at home and away from work to "supervise" the installation, as I have had less than favorable contracting experiences in the past. It wasn't long before I decided to leave and go into work because I felt so comfortable with Ean and Scott. My wife remained at home to answer any questions for the installers. When I returned home, Ean and Scott were just finishing their work. They walked me through the job and explained all that had been performed. They explained all of the details of the new system and provided valuable maintenance advice. I was more than pleased with the quality of the installation. I was also pleasantly surprised that they had reinstalled and tested our water heater, which I had moved out of their way earlier that morning. Reinstalling the water heater was not part of their scope of work. I greatly appreciated not having to complete that task after they completed their work. Ean and Scott went above and beyond all expectations and really delighted us with their work. A couple of days after the installation, we received a follow up call from another pleasant home office employee, who inquired as to the installation experience and if we had any questions or concerns. I told her that this was the best contracting experience I've ever had and that the equipment was operating flawlessly. In summary, I would, without hesitation, recommend Total Comfort for anyone's HVAC needs.

Total Comfort was so friendly and reassuring when we called to make an appointment. They were very thorough when gathering information, and gave precise details on what the next steps would be and how quickly we could expect the service repair person to arrive at our house. When Josh arrived for the repair, he was very personable and took care to remove his shoes and bring equipment into our house. He was also very patient and and had a great sense of humor when our cats were jumping in his boxes to sniff around during the repair. After Josh assessed the problem, he discussed with me what needed to be repaired. It was a pretty major part that went out, but Josh assured me that he had the part in his truck, and he would be able to get it fixed immediately. This was a big relief since we were entering the weekend, and couldn't go any longer without heat. Within just a few hours, I made a phone call to Total Comfort, had a repair person at my house and the repair was completed. I couldn't have been happier with the timeline and level of service. I would most definitely use Total Comfort again for my HVAC needs, and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of this service.

With our first appointment, they called and asked to reschedule. There were many customers without heat that day and asked me to defer to them. I appreciated the fact that they did put those without heat first in line. I was in a time crunch though as I had to close on our house in less than 2 weeks and having the furnace cleaned and inspected was part of the agreement. They absolutely understood that and made sure that we were done within the next few days. Everyone I spoke with was kind, courteous and understood the different customer needs.
