Phil came and gave us an estimate the day after we called. I was considering a stain, and he explained that they apply stains by hand just like his family has done for years. His was the second estimate I got, so I asked him about "water popping" the finish (which the first guy had said he'd do for an extra fee). Phil said water popping is included in their stain price because it is the best way to do it. Right then I knew Phil was the right guy for the job; he wasn't trying to sell me on anything, but whatever I'd choose to do he'd do the best possible way. (As a matter of fact, he helped me come up with the pros and cons of staining - including the fact that my golden retriever's shedding fur matched the non-stained floor color, which helped me decide against staining.) Phil, Sean, and Dave all showed up when they said they would. Phil reviewed the job with me and had me sign off on it. He is very professional. Phil ran an incredible sander that picks up almost all of the dust as it goes, Sean worked on the details, and Dave perfectly matched and beautifully replaced some boards. They put in a long first day. Three days and three coats of poly later, our floors were done. One of my biggest concerns had been leaving the quarter rounds in place; I was afraid they wouldn't get close enough to the edge with the sander. However, they did get right up there and it looks great. (We had to repaint the quarter rounds, but that was much easier than taking them all out.) The next day, I noticed one small spot that had a lighter coat of poly. Dave came out right away and fixed it, and it is impossible to tell that anything was wrong with it. Our floors are beautiful. As a matter of fact, I like them so much that I am getting a smaller rug for our living room to show them off. I would hire them again with no hesitation.
