I cannot say enough great things about working with Advanced Radon Services! I first talked with Walt when we were in the middle of purchasing a home and the radon levels had come back above the recommended limit. I had received a quote from a different company over the phone, but from the first minute I talked with Walt, it was clear he was the guy to go with. He was able to help me with a quote over the phone, as well as emailing a copy of the quote for negotiation purposes all within a very quick timeframe. The quote from Advanced Radon Services was higher than the other company, but based on the conversation and the thoughtful questions that went into the quote, I really felt it was more important to go with Walt's experience and knowledge. Additionally, there was no pressure from Walt about booking as soon as possible - as there was with other companies I had talked to. After purchasing the home, Walt came out for a pre-install consult. He was very thorough and was able to help us identify something in our home that the inspector hadn't been able to identify. It turned out to be a drain tile and was later determined to be the likely entry point of radon into the home. Walt spent considerable time working with us to figure out how to run the mitigation system internally in the house and he was great in communicating with us and explaining that running the system internally would raise the price of the initial quote slightly due to some additional work that would need to take place in the home (mainly cutting holes in approximately 20+ shelves of two closets to accommodate the mitigation pipe). In the end, while an internal system was possible, due to complexities with the layout of the house we ended up choosing to place the system externally on the south side of the house. Installation of the mitigation system went exactly as planned. Additionally, the team worked to modify the cover over our drain tile to ensure it was air-tight and radon was not entering through the cover. The system is barely noticeable and our post-mitigation radon levels are <0.3 pCi/L. We could not be happier with how everything turned out and our experience with Advanced Radon Services. Walt was always responsive to our questions and spent time explaining things to us along with reassuring us along the way!

As a previous customer said, hire this company. Some people are skeptical of radon gas effects on humans, but for this little money, why risk your health? Plus, this is an added benefit at resale. Radon is on a lot of peoples' minds these days and we were not happy to find out that our levels here in Lakeville were quite high. Enter Walt Fitzmaurice. He came out on schedule to survey our situation and let us know what to expect from their company. I was very concerned about the end product and aesthetics, but once Mike came out to do the actual work I was very pleased with how everything looked. More importantly radon has been eliminated from our house and we feel a lot better about that. Mike's work was outstanding and very professional. He even reinforced a shelf I had been meaning to get to at no charge. The follow-up was excellent as well. I am confident that if I have additional concerns Walt will handle them with professionalism. This is a very professional contractor in a world of mediocre ones. Walt's communication skills are outstanding and he was able to take a technical complex service and reduce it to easy to understand language.

Great experience from start to finish. I called several Radon Mitigation companies. A few provided pricing over the phone but wouldn't stop at the house to make recommendations and to help me understand the scope of the project -- these companies didn't make my final cut. Walt from Advanced Radon Services took the time to come to my house for a no-obligation quote, thoroughly explain their services, answer my questions and help recommend the best location for installing a mitigation system. The quote was competitive -- a little higher than a few of the companies that quoted over the phone, but Walt was so knowledgeable and explained why their process would ensure the job was done right the first time. I rate them "A" for price but what I really mean is "A" for value -- I'll gladly pay any day for good quality and expertise at a fair price, especially when talking about mitigating a health risk. When Walt and his crew (Ben and Sam) came to do the installation, the first thing they did was a pressure field test. This testing ensures the system they install will be effective. I won't get into the specifics of how the testing is conducted, but in our case, the testing showed the preferred installation spot was not a good choice. I'm not sure how many companies do this pressure field testing before installing their systems -- but my hunch is a different contractor might have simply drilled a hole in our foundation and put up the plastic pipes and fan. After completing a post-mitigation radon test, it would have shown that it wasn't doing much, if any, good. And in our case it would have meant patching a hole in our roof where the original pipe was set to be vented. With Advanced Radon Services, they don't install the system unless it's going to work. They performed the testing in a different location in our basement and found an alternate installation spot. Walt walked me through the change in plans and our options. Since it was a change in plans and would mean that the suction fan would be located outside instead of in our garage rafters (and won't last quite as long as a result), Walt made sure I understood their was no pressure to move forward with the job. He even offered another solution to lower radon levels if I didn't want to move forward with a mitigation system. My wife and I were fine with the new location, so we had them install the system. Ben and Sam completed the job while their subcontractor, Alan (from Brothers Electric) completed electrical work. All very fast, very knowledgeable, very friendly. Ben and Sam cleaned up the basement when work was completed, even swept my garage. It was cleaner than when they arrived. I almost completed this review before I had the results of our post-mitigation radon test. I was so confident their process would lead to significantly reduced radon levels because I knew they wouldn't install the system unless they were sure it was going to work. Their work is guaranteed, and really the only way you can offer this type of guarantee is pressure field testing beforehand. But I decided to wait to post this until I conducted a short-term post-mitigation radon test. Before the system was installed: Our long-term testing showed 6.1 pCi/l After Advanced Radon installed the system: Short-term testing showed < 0.3 pCi/l Advanced Radon Services rating on Angie's List speaks for itself. I'm so happy we selected them and would recommend them to anyone who needs radon mitigation.

They were responsive from the very beginning. After two-failed attempts to get companies out to our home for an estimate on repairs, I joined Angie's List and found Advanced Radon Services, LLC. From the very beginning, Walt Fitzmaurice made us feel that we would be taken care of. He made no promises, but talked us through a couple of possible solutions. He was so friendly and efficient. There wasn't any "back-and-forth" or forgetfulness. He got all he needed on the first visit. When the work was scheduled, they did phenomenal job and got our readings down to almost nothing. They were quick to provide all official paperwork to us. I would not want anyone to have a radon problem; but if you do...there is no one else I would use. Thank you Walt!

My timeframe was tight. I needed mitigation prior to our closing date in 30 days. Walt was very responsive. Unfortunately they were booked out past my timeline. I'm grateful he was honest enough to tell me that. It seems many others simply ignore your calls and emails. He even sent me a list of his competitors with reccomdnations. That's service. I would not hesitate to call or recommend them simply based on this.

Response from ADVANCED RADON SERVICES
Thanks for the feedback and sorry you felt the price was a little high. We're always glad to match a competitor's bid "apples to apples." We try to balance price vs. quality. It seems to be working; nearly 100% of customers who actually contract our services rate us "A" for value. We measure quality by outcome: The highest Angies rating by a long shot and year over year Super Service award year over year. In stark contrast to a good many competitors, we practice quality starting with free in-home consults. Our record of radon reductions to super low levels is unsurpassed. We have top notch installers who are among the most experienced and quality conscious people in the state. And they are people whom you'd trust in your home. To keep good people, we pay a salaried, living wage, full worker's compensation and paid vacations. Unlike some of our competitors, all our work is done following strict adherence to advanced diagnostics protocols, codes and "best practices." Our warranty record is unsurpassed: In an industry that is rife with "call backs" because of failure to reduce, noise, freeze ups, leaks, sump basin issues, etc., our warranty call back ratio is one tenth that of a good many contractors. Quality work insures low life cycle cost. The vast majority of our systems last at least ten years worry-free. We do adequate sealing so as to ensure heating and cooling cost don't increase. It's a value proposition!

Our home was built in 1925 so any work done in our house is usually complicated. I am so glad we contacted Advanced Radon Mitigation to do this work. Walt checked out the basement and found an area in a storage room to install the pipes to get good suction and then planned on running one pipe outside and up the side of our house. Truthfully, I don't even notice the pipe. The fan(outside) is not noticeable when in the basement. I can hear it in our small room off of the living room on the main floor, but it is just enough to know that it is working. My husband said the workers were very professional and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. I liked that Walt followed up with us after the work was completed and told us to run another radon test 24 hours after the mitigation was started and then every two years after that. He also provided info on the usual life of the fan. Radon levels before: 4.9 pCi/L. Radon levels after: < .3 pCi/L

Excellent contractor! I was totally impressed with Walt's knowledge of Radon and mitigation systems. He and his crew are truly professionals and very efficient at what they do. I am very pleased. I ran the Radon test kits for two days and sent them off. A few days later I got the results for the two areas tested. Both below 0.3 Pc/l.
Description of Work: Prior to installation, Walt came out and walked me through the entire process of what would be done and my options. We discussed where the piping and fan would be located and how they would insure that the system had a good vacuum value to expel the Radon. He provided me with a written estimate detailing the work to be done, how the testing would be done by an independent agency and terms of payment. On installation day Walt came out with his crew and we reviewed his bid and did a walk through of the entire installation process. When Walt and finished there work plan he left and the crew finished the installation that day. The entire process was done between 9 AM and 3 PM. The crew kept me informed as they worked. When the work was completed they cleaned all work areas and gave me instructions on the operation of the system.

It went extremely well. They lowered the radon emission in our basement from over 4 to an average of a bit over 1. The man who did the work did a wonderful job and completed everything in one day. Walt Fitzmaurice was excellent at explaining everything to us/educating us about what needed to be done for effective radon mitigation. It was very reassuring to have him sorting out our radon problems since he is so knowledgable and nice at the same time. .Walt came for a consultation to our house. He was extremely knowledgeable and willing to share his expertise. He not only explained everything well, he also did not hesitate to explain things again to my husband and my dad when they joined us a little bit into the appointment. He helped us understand the problem and gave us a good sense of the reasons and the solution. He did a through examination of the spaces and how he would tap into the drain tile system to install the radon reduction set up. Finally, he noticed that we have an air exchanger in our basement. He examined it upon our request as we let him know that we were not clear on its purpose and state. He advised us to get it serviced. He walked around the house to help locate and show us the outlets/inlets for the air exchanger and showed us that the situation with the air inlet being clogged might be one of the reasons why the radon levels are what they are - as they were not very high. He told us to run the air exchanger after it had been serviced, and then re-do the radon tests and see if the test results show radon reduction. He then told us to call him back if needed. In a couple of days after his visit on a Saturday morning, he emailed us the quote which we have found reasonable. So, overall our experience with Walt was stellar! He is a gentleman, and a thorough professional. My husband and I have decided to send him a token payment for his consultation (he has not asked for it).

Advanced Radon Services were contacted to discuss the installation of a radon mitigation system at my parent's home in Jordan, MN. We had previously completed two short-term radon tests (January and February 2014) and the results were: 10.5 pCi/L and 12.5 pCi/L. The company was initially contacted via e-mail and the response was quick and informative. Within days Walt was able to meet me at the residence to discuss installation methods and options. During the initial consultation Walt spent over an hour inspecting the house while doing a fantastic job of explaining exactly what the system would do and how it would do it. He also noticed there was a ventilation problem in the basement and suggested the installation of a make up air duct system to correct this problem. After evaluating the structure it was decided that a sub slab system with external venting along the outside of the home would work best. On the scheduled day of system installation Walt and his crew showed up on time. They took great effort to minimize any mess by covering all traveled areas with tarps. Prior to beginning the installation Walt and his crew conducted a pressure field extension test to confirm that suction extended sufficiently at the (2) proposed suction points, thus maximizing radon reduction. The work, as expected, took eight hours to complete. After installation the system setup, maintenance and operation was explained in great detail. The site cleanup was exceptional and no trace of dust or debris could be found. Every person we came in contact with from this company conducted themselves in a professional and friendly manner. The cost of the radon mitigation system by itself was $1,985. The total cost ($2,235) included an electrician (hired by Advanced Radon Services) and the installation of the make up air duct system. The warranty is five years for materials, workmanship and radon levels below 4 pCi/L. Post mitigation radon test materials were provided. The post-mitigation radon level is 1.2 pCi/L.

Hands Down A+ Service! Walt did a wonderful job explaining the process and his follow-up was above and beyond. The day of install he followed up during the day and again at the end of the day to make sure that everything was completed. I had hired a nightmare contractor to complete another job the same day who left me with a disaster. Walt & his crew even removed some of their mess to create a walk way and offered options of who might be able to help. They did a wonderful job on the install of the radon system and even a better job with offering a little emotional support and help. (which was not in my contract) I so appreciated them going the extra mile and have referred them to many others. Thank you!!!! :-)

His proposal visit was very thorough and he spent plenty of time explaining what they could do and why they do it. He explained everything that could cause the estimated work to be higher in price (like a second outlet point in the floor), so there were no surprises later. the price was a fair market estimate. After hire, the crew was on time and very professional, courteous, and friendly throughout the whole 8-hour job. An explanation of how the system worked and necessary follow-up steps were clear. I'd highly recommend Advanced Radon to anyone in South Minneapolis.

After discussing with us the best way to install the system, Walt followed up with a written bid that totally encompassed the entire job that was to be done. Sump basin was sealed, mitigation system tapped into our drain tile and radon is being vented out the roof our garage. Job was done in one day as expected, all clean up was done by the company and the system works great! Would totally recommend Advanced Radon Services to anyone that needs to reduce the level of radon in their home as we had to.

Advanced Radon Services provided expert service for us today, at no charge. They are very professional with high integrity. Walt and his crew were set to install a complete system to reduce the radon at our house today. Of the three potential vendors we talked to, he alone pointed out that we needed to seal certain parts of our concrete floor that would prevent the system from working. So we chose his company. Walt walked us through the entire process in expert detail, and scoped out where the holes in the floor would be drilled and the pipes installed. But before starting the work, they drilled a couple of test holes in the floor to ensure there was sufficient suction under the concrete floor. Well, because how our concrete floors were poured after the plaster walls in the basement were built, there wasn't enough suction, so while the planned system would help reduce the radon, Walt advised that it may not be enough to make it worth it. Instead, he advised that we install an air exchanger to reduce radon. An air exchanger will cost more, but will work for our house. In the city of Minneapolis we have to hire and HVAC company to install and air exchanger, so we'll look for good candidates on Angie's List, otherwise we'd want Advanced Radon Services to install it. Since their test showed that their planned system would not work well enough, Walt and his crew then sealed up the holes they had made, even closing off the biggest potential leak in the floor (that they had not made). All at no charge.
