Description of Work: Andrew responded promptly to my inquiry. The crew showed up as promised and worked quickly and efficiently to install the radon remission system. They cleaned up the worksite and explained the work that had been performed. Subsequent testing confirmed radon had been remitted. We are very pleased with the work performed by Advanced Radon Services.

Description of Work: When I mentioned his estimate was higher than I was hoping he said he wasn't interested in the work and that I should look elsewhere. It was as if no one should ever question him. We had the work performed by A-1 Radon Services. 612-207-3049 ask for Andrew. | |

I'm sorry you feel this way. You called to ask us to match the competitive bid. I stated that we would not install a single point system on the north side of your home, as the competitive bid called for, because it would likely not delver meaningful radon reduction, would cause obnoxious fan vibration noise and would be a recipe for system freeze up in winter. So much work nowadays in done in a less than high quality manner. Our proposal for a two suction point system would have cost $200 more, but it would have ensured a radon levels down below 2 (as opposed to the competitor's guarantee below 4). It would have ensured against zero vibration noise. And it would have been exponentially less likely to freeze up in winter. You appeared upset that we would not install the inferior system. Again, sorry, but we are not going to compromise on quality. We're proud of the fact that we've installed now over 2500 systems. Not once has a customer who actually hired us complained about our work and customer service. I wish you the best, but I think you'd better keep your contractor's contact info at the ready come winter when the system is all but assured to freeze up.

Description of Work: Sealed up our sump pump outlet and other sources of ground Radon. Ran pipes from that area out through our garage and to the roof. Installed fan to pull that air from the basement and to the outside. Costs were higher than normal because they had to run the pipes a very long way, install access ports to the roof of our garage and use a stronger fan. Radon levels went from 7+ pre-install to 0.3 afterward (essentially the same you would get outdoors).

Thanks, appreciate your comments about "A" throughout except for "C" for price. By way of explanation regard price, we spent 7 hours with the best two guy crew in the state plus me working to get the suction vent pipe routed up above a finished ceiling, leaving zero obtrusion in the finished areas. If memory serves, the bid was $200 more than the "other guy" who was going to ram-rod the vent pipe with a one guy crew through the finished area, and he didn't offer the same radon reduction guarantee. (Our end result was reduction below 1 with zero finished area obtrusion and zero dust). Granted again, it was $200 more, but have to beg to differ perhaps that it wasn't money well spent. If you'd like, please zip me an email (walt@radonfree.com), and I'll zip you back a $200 check for the difference. Fair enough? Again, thanks for the other shout outs regarding value, quality and such. Best, Walt 'n crew

Description of Work: Advanced Radon installed a complete radon removal system in my basement. My husband had been diagnosed with lung cancer and his oncologist recommended we have our basement checked for radon, which presence in the home can cause cancer. We checked and found radon, and then found Advanced Radon on Angie's List. The installation was done immaculately, and Mr. Fitzmaurice was so kind throughout. I recommend with all my heart.

Wish there were an Angies List for customers! We'd give you A+++! (And oh!, sorry for delay and that I don't get time to answer all member comments.) We do our work-a-day installations, appreciative always to work with such nice customers. Sounds corny, but it really does make "swinging pipe" fun and rewarding. Then once in a very long while we get blessed with a customer so kind, so human and so gracious in the face of affliction that we get a special gift of work satisfaction. It's a little reminder of what life's all about. Thank you sincerely for the heartfelt comments. And wishing and praying you and yours good health and happiness. Walt ' n Crew.

They were punctual, very sensitive to keeping the project dust and dirt contained and clean up was superb. |They did pre and post testing and the bottom line they reduced the radon levels even more than the contract levels we had agreed to. Description of Work: They installed a radon mitigation system with one suction point through the basement slab. PVC pipe was run from the basement suction point up through the unused flue into the attic where an exhaust fan was installed. The output from the fan was run up through the roof (code required). After installation of the mitigation system radon levels in three basement rooms were well below the Federal suggested levels. Up to three suction points were possible depending on suction tests but only one suction point was needed. ||Installation went well with no problems. I was very impressed with their expertise, knowledge and speed of installation. ||These guys are radon geeks folks. I highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Hire these people! We became aware of a radon problem late last year. When Walt visited our home he first suggested some easy steps to reduce the radon levels. These were things we could do ourselves, there was no pressure to sell his services. Later we did contract to have the work done and it was completed in a timely manner with absolutely no mess left behind and the installation had no deleterious effect on the aesthetics of the home. Final result? Air quality roughly the same as fresh outdoor air. I'm a grumpy old geezer but I really like these folks. Hire them!

Description of Work: Walt and his team were exceptional to work with. Worked with our basement situation and together came up with a great solution that provided good results (levels at or below 0.6) and had a minimal impact on the rest of the house. Really a treat to work with, and very professional. I recommend them to my family and friends

Description of Work: I have a problem with the radon on my house so I brought in ADVANCED RADON SERVICES. What was interesting about it is my interaction with them, I did not end up actually using them. What was fascinating about it was they came out, they looked at my house and my house has a very specific problem and that is that I have a wooden basement, I did not have a poured concrete well so that's very unusual in its construction technique and it makes the job of getting rid of the radon extremely difficult. They came in, look at it and said to me we have never done one of this before. They don't know how to approach this problem and they said that there is an organization over at the University of Minnesota which is in charge of radon basement for the state, they said they will contact those people and they will get information from them on how to approach this kind of problem. Two days later they had sent me a letter from the people at the University of Minnesota and then provided me with the documentation that they had done it and gave me the letter from the people of the U.M. They didn't even charged me for anything and it gets even better from the time that we look at this things, he said "do me a favor you've got on a radon either in your house, set a fan on the window in your basement, let's just try getting some air moving through here to see if it is possible to get the radon out of here, simply by using ventilation and not actually installing a radon on a basement system." I did that and it turn out that simply putting in a window fan and moving air to the space will be enough to bring the radon down the safe level. They said "we can charge you for probably 8,000$ to put in a radon on a basement system because it is an extremely difficult installation or you can try to get a ventilation system installed and that would probably cost you about 3,000$, that's the much better option, if may not work completely, I may have to come back and do something, try that first and don't spend your money with me". How exceptional are they, you know, to find a contractor who will tell you don't use my services. I want to give them an A plus for honesty, integrity, and knowledge about that and all the other things.

Description of Work: Walt was very professional and prompt. He came and did a thorough walk though the house and went over the mitigation he thought we needed done. He explained everything to me, about how radon gets into the house and how the mitigation works. The job was scheduled within 2 weeks and the work was done in one day. The follow-up test showed that the radon had not come down as far as they guaranteed it would, but Walt contacted me before I even had a chance to contact him and said they would come back and do more work. They spent another half day working (at no extra charge) and the radon level came down under their guarantee. Walk and Mike were both a pleasure to work with.

Never got a chance to find out.
Description of Work: We had an appointment set up with Walter. He called just before the appointment time. I asked him if he could come a little later as I had forgotten about the appointment. He said his calendar was full. I tried to tell him to come for the appointment but he didn't give me a chance. He said to find another radon mitigation specialist and hung up on me. Not very professional.

THIS MEMBER BASES HER RATHER HARSH RATING ON A 2 MINUTE PHONE CALL. SHE HAS NEVER USED OUR SERVICES OR EVEN MET US. WE UNDERSTAND CUSTOMERS ARE BUSY AND FORGET ABOUT APPOINTMENTS, AND WE ARE ALWAYS GLAD TO RESCHEDULE. BUT THERE IS A RULE OF BASIC HUMAN RESPECT FOR ANOTHER'S TIME AND COMMITMENTS THAT ALSO APPLIES HERE. IT'S CALLED THE GOLDEN RULE. I COURTESY CALLED THIS MEMBER PRIOR TO AN ON TIME ARRIVAL FOR AN IN HOME MEETING SHE REQUESTED. SHE SAID SHE FORGOT, HAD OTHER THINGS TO DO AND "TOLD" ME TO COME LATER THAT AFTERNOON. WHEN I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE -- I HAD PRE-SET APPOINTMENTS WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS LATER ON THAT AFTERNOON -- SHE BECAME DEMANDING AND ANGRY. I REALIZED THEN THAT EVEN THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD NOT SATISFY THESE UNREALISTIC DEMANDS. I SUGGESTED SHE CALL ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. I CUT THE CONVERSATION SHORT BUT, AS I ALWAYS DO, SAID THANK YOU AND GOODBYE. ON A POSITIVE NOTE, LET ME TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK OUR ACTUAL CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR KIND COMMENTS. TO THEM WE ARE INDEBTED FOR RECEIVING THE 2007 SUPER SERVICE AWARD, WHICH IS HONORED TO THE TOP 5% OF COMPANIES ON THE LIST. THANKS TO THEM, WE ARE THE ONLY RADON MITIGATION CONTRACTOR IN MINNESOTA TO HAVE RECEIVED THIS DISTINCTION. SINCERE THANKS. WALT.
