I made the mistake of hiring Summers Irrigation to correct the grading and install a new lawn (hydro-seed) at my house prior to reading any of the reviews available that I have since found online. My experience with Summers Irrigation began in June 2020 when I met with Phil Boos at my house. We discussed the condition of the grass species of my lawn, the grading concerns I had with my yard and what was needed to correct it. Phil presented a plan with a quote, we agreed to a plan, I paid the deposit, the work began on-time in August 2020 and everything since then has been extremely disappointing. As planned, the crew came to remove the dead grass (killed on purpose) and prep the grading (add dirt) for new hydro seed to be applied. Once the prep was “completed”, I called Phil to express my concern that the grading did not appear to be flat or corrected. In fact, it looked basically identical or worse to what it did prior to the Roundup being applied. I was concerned that if this was not corrected prior to hydro seed application it would be more difficult to correct after the hydro seed was applied. I explained that there are still high/low spots throughout the lawn and the grading is not flush with the adjoining driveways. He assured me Tony would apply some more dirt prior to applying the hydro seed. Phil Boos never checked the work of his crew and Summers Irrigation never corrected the grading, they proceeded the next day and applied the hydro seed. For this project, we were quoted 30 yards of dirt to correct the grading, based on what was removed with the dead grass and the amount of “loose dirt” that was added, I would shocked if they actually delivered and used 10-15 yards of dirt. In addition to the grading not being corrected, Tony and his partner damaged several existing sprinkler heads during the preparation phase. These damaged heads caused significant erosion and required touchup work with grading and new hydro seed. I question why the condition (for damage) of the sprinkler heads was not checked prior to hydro seeding. Within a few weeks the grass seed had germinated and filled in the areas that were not effected by the erosion caused by damaged sprinkler heads. During the late Fall of 2020, I met with Phil Boos again to discuss the grading concerns and develop a plan to correct it in the Spring of 2021. Phil mentioned several techniques; the use of a rotary laser to correct the grade and most recently the use of an asphalt like roller and/or top dressing/leveling. To date (April 2022), nothing has happened and our communication has been silent since September 2021. In closing, I would NOT trust Summer Irrigation with any work at my home or recommend them for work to be done at your home. They have a great ability of telling you what you want to hear, but zero ability to complete the work as quoted and described. Overall, a total disappointment. Stay clear.

We asked Summers to come out and do some paver repair work and also place a new sleeve under the front walk and run an exterior extension cord through it, if possible. The paver repair work was done really promptly and nicely, they needed to return to run the sleeve. We were happy to learn that not only would they be able to run the sleeve, but they could do it without disturbing the existing pavers on the walkway. Before the appointment to run the sleeve, we discovered a leak in the sprinkler system. Summers was able to schedule the sprinkler repair for the same time as new sleeve, so that was really helpful. The crew arrived on time, got right to work, and were very professional and polite. The sprinkler repair required disturbing a small section of lawn and running the sleeve required disturbing a couple plants. Following the repair work the lawn and plants were replaced and the areas cleaned up. Very happy with the service.

It went ok ... while I gave them a reasonable overview of the problems I was experiencing, over the phone they said they couldn't even give me guidance on pricing, so the pricing was more than I'd thought it would be. In general, however, the work seems to be pretty decent.

We had one appt on a Friday with a 3 hour window. They showed up during the last 30 minutes to tell me they did not allocate enough time to fix a repair for a main water line so we rescheduled. This was not a problem. I understood the situation. I rescheduled and the office was aware that a 3 hour window of time was required for the next appt and they put me on the books for that amount of time. They were to show up during a window of 2pm to 5pm on a Wednesday. They showed up at 4pm and Barney (I believe) said "I am not staring at 3 hour job at 4pm so you will need to reschedule" -- again!!! He offered no apologies and just left. I called their office to get an immediate time to reschedule. The receptionist wanted to clarify the situation with the tech and call me back. She sympathized with the situation. With that said, it was quite the surprise when Kip (I think he is the owner) called me and was rude and snarky. I offered to get another appt the following week but I wanted a discount on the work since I have lost a whole day of work to meet them -- Kip could have cared less. He gave that no consideration and said "do you want to set an appt or not and no you are not getting a discount on the work" This is probably one the worst contract situations I have ever been in -- short of another contractor we hired who took our money and went to jail. I am not quite sure how they continue this business. I will never recommend them to anyone. I have used them for years and their service took a terrible turn.

The quote arrived without a drawing of any sort as to the landscaping design he had in mind. When questioned, that's how he responded, it's all in his ' mind', he does things the ' old fashioned' way. Huh? He has an idea in his mind, describes it as a list of plants & gives a quote? How is this considered 'old fashioned? Here's some money & just do what you want? Next, we needed a quote on repair & maintenance of our pavers. He quoted us $5500 to do the job. Yes, they needed to be re-laid, but it's a small area + some other work on the porch. We received 3 other quotes to do the same work (yes, apples to apples) and no one came in higher than $2200.00. I responded to the quote above by asking if anyone just says yes to an idea in his head? Did you hear back? That's how I heard back. After the first in-person contact, Phil never called again. All the above was done by infrequent emails, with NO response at all the last time. If this is this company's MO, they will never hear from us again.

The service person came out today to open our system. Did he have the remote that we needed? NO. I specifically asked the scheduler to make sure he had this equipment and he did not. Also, he said he didn't even know what it was. Again, we are very disappointed. Our system is not open and we have wasted an entire Saturday waiting for service. Shame on you, Summers Irrigation. We are done with this company and unfortunately, can not recommend them to anyone. F- .

It didn't go

It's the company we had gotten for my mom because she was looking for someone to do her work and she ended up using them and she was very happy with them too. She was very happy with the work and she even had them come back and do some additional work. They put a whole new lawn and some sod. They did a very good job, I know because she told me.

We called approx 10 days in advance to have sprinkler repair, lawn maintenance quote, and review what we wanted for re-do of Landscaping, trees shrubs, flowers, clean-up etc. Appt. time was for 5:00 P.M. on June 4th, by 5:30 when no one showed up we called Summers Irrigation the recording answered we left message. 15 minutes later and quot;Mike called said he was late stuck at Bank of America their largest account and when they call he goes they are more important , but he would be at our house. Arrived close to 7:15. He was not prepared to do any work, we thought we were getting sprinkler repaired, i.e. heads replaced etc we basically had informed them what we knew was going on with system so they could be prepared when they came out. Then Mike looked at our lawn told us we should have person who cuts the sub and quot;easementand quot; do our lawn too cause he'd charge at least $30.00, when we asked about estimate for Landscaping he said it would be sent the next day or day after, that would have been June 5th or 6th. I called the 7th we got no response, we e-mailed, my Husband called and finally we got the answer it would be sent via e-mail Monday, and the sprinklers would be repaired a thursday the 13th at $20 every 15 minutes per man per hour plus $345 for the valve etc. No quote was ever sent (thankfully, we got the sprinkler fixed and their $345 part was between $155-170 by 4 competitors and the complete job was $220 including 2 heads replaced. We got our lawn cutting price at $22, landscaping quote as promised in two days etc and have hired and begun with someone else. We are happy and thankful we did not use them what a horrible way to treat customers we cannot Fathom how they could possibly be an A on Angies List and we will certainly make sure we let everyone and anyone we know, aware of how dismissive they were of us and how they did not follow through with anything, and quite frankly let us know that they did not need the business, after all when and quot;Bank of America calls, who cares if you screw over what they considered the small guy. What a poor attitude and how absurd to tell us this my Husband left work fro downtown to our home in Bloomfield Hills Mi to not be late.

He was excellent as far as getting back to me and getting a proposal to me right away. I received the quote three days after he was out here to check it out. He actually was averaged priced compared to the others. The reason that I've hired him is that he seemed to be familiar with the water drainage issues and he explained a lot. He was a gentleman and he explained to me that they are a family owned business and two companies have merged. He knew what he was talking about. And he is going to give me a quote on brick paving on my front walk. They also do that kind of work.

After living here ten years I was suddenly getting water coming up in the floor of my family room (which was lower than the rest of the house.) Mike Freeman of Summer's diagnosed the problem and proposed a needed drainage plan. It took him a while to schedule me in September but he got here in good weather. His solution has worked fine, and I am pleased with the results.

I love these people because they are really good. I like them because they come when they say, I have a system set up that if I am not here they don't necessarily come into the house. They are very professional, the price is very good and competitive, excellent quality and they are A plus on punctuality.
