I would highly recommend them as they do a great job. They not only diagnose the problems and fix it, but also help me avoid it too. They call me and let me know before they start any kind of work so that I get an idea of why it has to be done. I can even call them and ask them questions even if I am not going to them and they are willing to answer all the questions.

My son's car was having problems with stalling for about a week. I found Classic Auto Repair online through AL. I dropped the car off that morning to have it looked at. They were VERY VERY busy, had customers in the waiting area and all the bays were full. When I mentioned that I didn't have a ride back home (I figured I would call a cab as I had no other alternative), they said they would give me a lift back (which was VERY nice!). As I said, they were extremely busy, so I didn't expect to get a call about the estimate until late in the afternoon. They called at around 12:30, gave me quote for repair and explained the process they used to figure out the problem (side note: I did some internet research and found a very probable cause for the problem and a ballpark figure on what it would cost to fix it). The quote they gave me was right in line with what I had found, and I gave the ok for the repair. I didn't think it would be done until Monday at the latest (did I mention they were super busy and swamped??), but I asked about the ETA for the repairs to be done. They said they would get the part within the hour and would have the car back by close that night (8 pm). As promised, they had the repairs done on time. The mechanic came out and showed my husband and I the part they replaced, explained the costs, and checked us out in a very timely manner. After all the problems I've had with mechanics and complaints I've heard about them, I was really leery of who I went to for the repairs. I was VERY pleased with Classic. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a good, reliable shop that is fair and honest. I will be taking my cars there in the future for any problems.

It was a great experience from start to finish with Classic Automotive Repair. They gave the car a thorough inspection and actually brought me in the garage to show me the problem areas with my car. I am definitely not a gear head but they explained everything in easy to understand terms. The price they quoted was more than fair. In fact it was about $250 cheaper than the regular place I take my cars. The repairs were done correctly the first time and I've had trouble-free driving ever since. For any major repairs, Classic Automotive Repair will be my first choice.

At time's I truly tested their talents with difficult problems - and they never failed me. They are the "Click and Clack" of Michigan -- to be sure! In over 12 years of servicing my van - I can honestly say that each time I entered Classic Auto - I felt like my business was appreciated. I have sent many of my friends their way - with total confidence they would also walk away from their experience pleased. Loyalty goes two ways at Classic Auto. They simply are the best.
Description of Work: These auto geniuses kept me safe and on the road in a 20+ year old van. Always upfront about the cost of the fixes and whether or not the fix was prudent given the van's age.

We were to put the car on a hauler in California to transport it to Michigan but at the very last minute started having trouble getting it started. When the hauler got here we had to push it off the truck and tried jumping it, and tested the batter and starter and both seemed fine even though this is an older car. So many mechanics are crooks, so I relied on Angie's list since everything I've done based on ratings found there have been fantastic. The car was towed in and fixed the next day and there were no complaints when we didn't pick it up until the following Monday. No arguments on the price either. Without having any idea what the issue was (besides a wiring short somewhere in the system) it could easily have been so much worse.
Description of Work: 96 mustang would not start and we didn't think it was the battery or starter because of preliminary tests at home. Had it towed (by wrecker suggested by Classic) and received a call the next day that it was fixed. Turned out to be an after market security device that had been installed by the car rental company that sold us the car. Very nice, honest, and professional people to work with.

Very well, see my comments documented above.
Description of Work: I contacted this firm on 09/25/12 to determine if they perform mobile mechanical services after doing research on Angie's List. I am contemplating purchasing a 2006 BMW X5 automobile. I ran the car fax, however, a Car Fax report will not identify if an automobile has mechanical issues. Did my research on this vehicle model. However, I want to have the vehicle inspected mechanically at the seller's location before entering into a purchase agreement. While Al stated his firm does not provide this service, he took time from his busy schedule to point me in the direction of someone who does. I was very impressed by this, as I am not an actual customer (YET). Based on this experience, I would highly recommend this repair facility. In fact, I will be using this company when I purchase an auto, especially if I decide to go with an import.

We took our Chevy Aveo in because the check engine light had been on and the car had been lagging when we tried to accelerate. Classic Automotive was very quick in assessing the issues and they were very good about explaining what needed to be done. Ultimately, we received a new ignition coil, a repaired oil leak and a new barring. The day after we picked it up the engine light came back on. I called Classic Automotive and they asked me to bring it back in so they can run a check on it. The issue is that the catalytic converter is not performing to its best capacity. However, Al advised us that this really was not a big issue and that he would not push to get it done because it is not going to impact the car in the near future. I appreciated his honest as the mechanics we had went to before usually pushed anything that would increase their profit. They did not charge us anything for the second inspection. Overall I felt like this was a very good experience and that they were honest and good businessmen. I will definitely take my car to them in the future.

In late March, I noticed drops of some type of oil or fluid on the floor of my garage. The vehicle in question was a 2006 Ford Freestyle that I had driven since December, 2005, with 105,000 miles on the odometer. Not knowing how long the car had been "leaking", I put several layers of cardboard on the floor of the garage to determine the severity of the problem. Over the next few weeks, the leak progressively got worse. I drove the car to a neighbor's house and put it up on ramps. My neighbor and I crawled underneath the car and after close inpection, agreed that the leak was coming from the left front wheel half-shaft seal at the point where the half-shaft entered the Continuously Variable Transmission. I anticipated an expensive repair. About six months earlier I had a bad experience with the service provider that I had been using on the car, so I decided to find someone else. I consulted Angie's list and saw that the write-ups for Classic Automotive Repair were quite good. Even though Classic is located about 20 miles from where I live, I thought they were worth a look. When I dropped the vehicle off at Classic, I described the analysis that I did on the leak and exactly where I thought the CVT was leaking. I also asked them to check into a problem with an inoperative driver's heated seat (figure out what's wrong but do not initiate an expensive repair). When I next talked to Classic, I was told that when the vehicle was placed on the hoist, the mechanic was not so sure that my diagnosis was correct. He powerwashed the underside of the transmission, had one of the office personnel take the vehicle out for a 10 mile drive and put it back on the hoist. The transmission fluid leak was coming from the pan seal. This was a much less expensive problem than I had expected. Classic performed the repair, replacing the CVT fluid, CVT filter and pan seal. The price was very reasonable. Three weeks after the repair was completed, my garage floor remains leak-free. They also completed the diagnosis for the driver's heated seat issue, including swapping components back and forth with the passenger's seat to isolate the cause of the problem. After determining that the issue was with the heating element inside of the seat, I elected not to have the seat repaired.
Description of Work: Diagnosis of transmission fluid leak (including power washing and road test to determine source of leak), replacement of 8 quarts of CVT fluid, replacement of transmission filter, and installation of automatic transmission fluid pan gasket. Diagnosis of inoperative driver's seat heated seat.

My entire experience with Classic Automotive was positive! When I got the call to say what and how much the repairs would be, I appreciated that they were fixing the 'necessary' problems and not creating more!! Although the repairs cost more than I had anticipated, I came away feeling that I had been dealt with honestly and that my bill actually reflected the work that had been done.

Our experience was wonderfu. Classic performs courteous, professional , accurate , honest quality work.
Description of Work: We have taken our daughter's older automobile (Mazda 2000 model) to this company twice for repairs. The first time we took her car after searching Angie's list for a reliable auto service company . Just previous to this we had taken her car to another company that had worked on her car multiple times for a noise/performance issue for a total of $1000 , however the original problem was not found or repaired: the car still had a noise/performance issue. We then found Classic Automotive on Angie's list and ratings were high. I am so happy that we looked on Angie's List. Classic Automotive fixed the problem the first time, promptly, courteously, very professionally and at a reasonable price. This was last year. This January again, being an older car, more noise and vibratory problems cropped up. Classic Automotive took her car on short notice on a very busy day after a 10 am phone call, and the car was fixed and ready for pickup at 2:30 pm. They had performed some welding on muffler connections and the problem was fixed quickly. This all sounds like a simple fix, but often you can take your car elsewhere and be charged for numerous other repairs found to be needed, yet the original problem still exists. This is a wonderful place, and I would highly recommend to anyone to take your vehicles for service here. Thank you Classic.

Great company. Everything explained. Work done quickly in one day. One diagnosis and estimate. (Unlike most repair shops that call multiple times upping costs with endless new "bad news" and keeping car hostage) Will give ride if needed. Very good, professional people. Surprised how many customers would come in just to say "thanks." I emphasized that I needed a "granny special type check up" as it was critical at that time because I needed to drive daily a long distance and needed to be safe. They took care of my old car so that I could safely drive to get to my mother daily, a long drive, with no problems for the many months prior to her death. Very trustworthy company.

I brought my car in because it had an extremely rough and loos ride. I brought it in to have the shocks & struts changed at all four corners. Al Karam said he would look at everything and call me back if there was a cheaper option. He called me back and recommended that I change the Front struts and tie rods and leave the rear end alone for now because the rear end shocks would run over $400.00 due to their special length. Since I work for the OEM manufacturer, I am familiar with these particular rear shocks. He stated that the ride & responsivenes would significantly improve as a result - which it did. His recomendation saved me $400.00.
Description of Work: My front struts & tie rods were replaced. I also had a diagnostic emissions code (P0496) cleared from my ECM. I also had a front end alignment done.

We had two cars serviced. One is a Volkswagon Passat, the other was a GMC Safari. They fixed my Passat in two days. The price was very reasonable, especially for a foreign car. The GMC just came back from another mechanic who couldn't find the problem. My husband dropped off the van on a Thurs night, hot to get it back Friday to go hunting, they rushed it, had it back to him Friday evening. They even offered to stay a little after closing in case he was running late. They were very professional and explained all the services performed. We will definitely be going back! We have finally found a car repair service that we believe to be reliable and honest!
Description of Work: Volkswagon Passat had a coolant leak, they replaced the water outlet housing/flushed and filled the cooling system. Checked brakes. Oil and filter change. The GMC Safari was missing, driving jerky, they diagnosed the problem and replaced the distributor shaft and assembly.

I found Classic Automotive Repair on Angie's LIst. I chose this company because of the number of favorable reviews it received on Angie's List. My car was making a whining noise. I looked up the problem on the internet and found idler pulley as a possible answer to the problem. My car also had the smell of gasoline or oil. When I called Classic Automotive Repair ,the Service Writer, Al was very pleasant and professional. It was decided that I should bring my car in the next day. I was to bring my car in around 9 AM however I was delayed because my car battery had died, consequently I did not bring my car in until around 12 PM. When I arrived Al, was very pleasant. He took the time to explain what the problem might be and what parts would have to be replaced. He also told me that I would not need a tune up until my mileage reached 90,000 miles. He said that since my mileage had reached 60,000 the throttle body was probably dirty and would need cleaning. He said that that could be the reason for the smell. He also said it was up to me whether I wanted to have that done. I did not wait for my car so he said he would call to let me know what he found. As promised he called and told me the cost and what had to be done. Before the work was done on my car he told me that my car runs great. That is always a good thing to hear from a mechanic. The cost of the repair was reasonable and my car was ready the same day. About 3:40 PM Al called to say my car was ready. I picked up my car and drove off -NO WHINING NOISE. Classic Automotive Repair is in Sterling Heights, I live in Detroit but it was worth the drive.

they evaluated and found a problem, that would cost $350 plus, but made a temporary "fix" that cost $43. Van suddenly started to run rough and the engine light came on. Looked up Automotive Classic here on Angies List and took it in. They were swamped with work and I thought for sure it would be at least a day to repair my vehicle. That same day they found a vacuum leak, repaired it, and come and picked me up at my home to collect the van. The whole transaction went very smoothly.

Daughter's car stopped in a parking lot, went to Angies list and found Classic Auto Works, which was practically right down the stree from where the car broke down. Spoke with them on Saturday at ~2:30 (1/2 hour after they had closed), they said to have the car towed to their lot and they would look at it on Monday. They provided an estimate on Monday morning, I authorized the work, and they had the parts ordered and the transmission reparied by COB that Friday.
