Description of Work: Met with Kelly early in the summer. Tentatively set up September as a start date. Crazy weather pushed things back. So I will report back with pics. Eager tosee how things turn out as this was the first time we rely entirely on Angie's list for contractor's work.

Test results for this house was that the house contained lead. With the extensive scraping required, and the disturbance of lead, we were unable to paint this house.

No problems on the estimate.
Description of Work: I had requested an estimate to paint the exterior of our house. This was done professionally and at the agreed to time. His services were not used as I selected another painter just because I was more satisfied with the other estimate.

Kelly answered my cost estimation call immediately. He came to our house at the time he promised and follwoed up with a detail, typed job description and fix price. The whole job took just more than a week to complete. Finally, he walked us around the whole house to make sure we are satisfied with his work. We are very glad to have him painted the house.

It took a while to get the job done. He was a bit slow. Over all we were happy and he gave me a great price. He was half the cost of the other guy I contacted.

It was late in the year when we started this job. We had started getting rain and the weather started cooling off. We had to wait for warm days to paint or the quality of the paint job would be compromised. That's why we were a bit slow to finish.

Right out of the gate, Kelly had missed our first appointment, and then called me several days later with no explanation. I'll forgive once, so we did get together, he looked over the work to be done, but was candid with me that he had not done a roof repair of this type (hot tar roof). He had what seemed like a good grasp of the repair, however, and was willing to tackle it. I told him he could build in a 10% contingency on the bid, in case we ran into surprises on the roof. At this point, I still had the feeling that this man would do a good job. We threw some numbers around verbally, and he was to supply me with a written estimate "within a couple of days". Emails arrived saying he was busy and would have it to me "the next day." A week later, I had not heard from him, and I got another contractor to look at the job. I then received an email (after over ten days) with some numbers which were considerably more competitive than the second contractor I had look at the job. They still weren't in the form of a document that I would consider a bid, but they were in writing. I liked the numbers, and I contacted him to come over the next day (a Saturday) to finalize, because I had decided not to stain the deck as part of the job, but replace the planks myself after the painting was done. He said he wanted another look at the roof. It was another no-show, but he did phone late that day to say that there had been a family picnic "that he had forgotten about", and that he wanted to reschedule for the next day. That day came and went with no Kelly, and no phone call. At that point, I was planning to cancel any further dealings anyway, because if you can't get a contractor to even START a job, how will you get them to ever FINISH it?
Description of Work: No services performed. Wanted exterior eves and trim repainted, minor roof repairs, stain the deck, vent installed up through the roof from the bath. Kelly advertises carpentry skills as part of what he can provide,(and that was a plus for me).

IF I HAVE TO MISS AN APPOINTMENT, IT'S FOR A GOOD REASON AND I CALL TO LET THE PERSON I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH KNOW. I DID CALL THE MEMBER TO LET HIM KNOW I COULDN'T KEEP OUR APPOINTMENT. I MET WITH HIM AND LOOKED AT HIS ROOF. THE ROOF WAS IN PRETTY BAD CONDITION AND NOT HAVING DONE A ROOF TARRING JOB BEFORE, I WASN'T SURE ON HOW TO BID THE JOB. IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF ROOF ROT AND JOIST SUPPORT ROT. IT WAS THE HEIGHT OF THE PAINTING SEASON AND I HAD QUITE FEW JOBS LINED UP THAT I KNEW HOW TO BID FROM EXPERIENCE. I GOT BUSY WITH THOSE JOBS AND SHOULD HAVE LET HIM KNOW SOONER THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO THE JOB. THE MEMBER'S ROOF LOOKED LIKE IT MIGHT BECOME A REAL STRUCTURAL NIGHTMARE.

AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE - We simply could not have imagined things going this smoothly. Kelly was prompt to respond to our initial call, not to mention punctual and professional when coming out for an estimate. Instead of a quick glance at the house and randomly throwing a price out to see what I would say, Kelly carefully measured the property and took close inspection of what the work would actually entail. His estimate was the absolutely best we received during our search. Kelly and crew started power washing the house the next day and the process quickly progressed - including the discovery of some fairly deep wood rot along the back of our home. Kelly was able to remove the rotten wood and replace everything at a very reasonable price for labor. Because of his many talents, our exterior paint project easily skipped over what might have quickly derailed us completely. (with excellent quality carpentry) We thought we would choose a dark slate blue for our base color. While respectful of our choice, Kelly wasn't afraid to offer some advice when I finally asked his opinion. He gave us a quick lesson in how to make your home look bigger and as a result we found a new base and trim color. The end result is amazing - even our neighbors love it! Many thanks to Kelly and his crew for their hard work. The paint job is flawless we never would have thought it could be done so fast! Sincerely Impressed, Gary Richardson & Jon-Michael Weiss
Description of Work: 1960's home in major need of a fresh coat of paint. Power washing, woodwork/carpentry, scrapping, spot treatments, primer and 2 thick coats of paint. Not to mention a much needed consultation regarding our original choice for paint color.

Kelly did an OUTSTANDING job. Together with a helper, he did all the work himself (unlike the previous company I hired, which basically used a bunch of kids). He was careful, meticulous, and thorough, treating it as his own house really. The estimate was exactly right, and when the extra repair work arose as they found some rotted wood, their charge was very reasonable ($500, which included getting the replacement wood, repair, and painting). All in all, I couldn't be happier, and Kelly is light years ahead of the three previous companies I've used. If you're compulsive about someone working on an exact schedule you might be a little frustrated: Kelly's house was a ways from mine and I didn't try to set my watch by when he arrived. But if you want a and extremely high quality paint job that will last, done by a professional who really cares about doing it right, and at a very reasonable cost, then Kelly is your guy.
Description of Work: Exterior badly needed painting. Extensive prep work, priming, and two coats of high quality exterior paint. There was also some damaged siding and deck flooring that was discovered during the job, and needed replacing. The house has portions that are very high off the ground, which made the job tricky.

Kelly called the day before and asked for explicit directions. I gave them to him. It's not difficult to find. My husband and I took an half day off from work to meet him at our home. (We carpool together). Kelly never showed up and didn't call. When I returned to work on Monday there was a message on my phone from Kelly stating that he couldn't find my home. There are only 2 main streets that run through Fife. I don't see how he couldn't have found it. But what really bothered me was that he left a message for me at work that he couldn't find the address. He knew my home number and that we were waiting for him there but chose to call my work number. I honestly felt he wasn't interested in doing the job.

I USED THE ADDRESS THE MEMBER GAVE ME WITH MAPQUEST TO FIND THE LOCATION. SHE GAVE ME DIRECTIONS TO A CORNFIELD IN FIFE. I DROVE AROUND FOR QUITE SOME TIME TRYING TO FIND HER HOUSE. WHEN I CALLED HER, THE NUMBER SHE HAD GIVEN ME WAS HER WORK NUMBER. I HAD NO OTHER WAY OF CONTACTING HER. IF SHE WOULD HAVE CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY, SATURDAY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO COME OUT AND GIVE HER A QUOTE AND A HIGH QUALITY PAINT JOB. INSTEAD SHE CHOSE TO WINE ABOUT IT.

They were on time and worked long hours to get the job done promptly. When the house was half painted, my wife decided that the color was a total mistake. Kelly repainted for a reasonable charge, even though it wasn't his fault - they didn't like the color either. We are very happy with the service and attention to detail.
Description of Work: Prepped and painted the exterior and trim on 2600 square foot, two story house. Some of the siding had split & needed to be replaced. Over a fairly large area on the West side of the house, the nails had popped from the cedar siding when the siding split. They replaced and repaired the siding, repainted the whole house, now it looks new again. We had replaced the roof with a metal roof that was not solvent safe. Kelly and his crew were very careful to keep all paint off the roof and the roof over the wrap around porch.

Bid was extremely competitive for the work included. Company promised 4 days to do the work. The job took 2 weeks. The rooms look great. The new paint color, molding and new interior doors add a lot to the home. The details of the work were lacking. Not all fixtures were reinstalled. There are areas where the paint was not applied properly. Basically, the prep work before the painting was rushed, and it shows up in the final details. Based on the price paid, I feel fine about the work. After the project was completed, I'm guessing that he underbid this job, and I'm thankful that it was completed. The owner was great, but the helpers were not as skilled or careful in their work. The professionalism scored is based on the cleanliness and failure to reinstall all fixtures. Punctuality is the two week time frame to complete the work.
Description of Work: Full interior painting with ceilings of a 2000 square foot home. One color for all walls except one room and one accent wall. Ceilings are all the same color. Included 3 new interior doors, molding on the first floor in all rooms, door molding for new doors, painted door to garage and new front door. Also installed new wood and molding on stair banister.

I COMPLETED THE BID FOR THE MEMBER AND GAVE HER A START AND COMPLETION DATE OF 4 DAYS. AFTER WE STARTED THE JOB, SHE CAME UP WITH A NUMBER OF ADDITIONS TO THE JOB. SHE DECIDED TO HAVE CARPET INSTALLED AND WANTED US TO INSTALL NEW BASEBOARDS. SHE THEN DECIDED TO ADD NEW MOLDING AND DOORS TO THE ENTIRE DOWN STAIRS. I GAVE HER A PRICE AND ADDED IT TO THE ORIGINAL COST. SHE HAD A RELATIVE INSTALL NEW CARPET IN HER LIVING ROOM. WE WAITED MORE THEN A WEEK FOR THE CARPET TO BE INSTALLED AND LET HER KNOW WE HAD OTHER JOBS SCHEDULED AND HAD TO KEEP DEADLINE. SHE SAID TO PUT THE MOLDING IN AT THE SAME HEIGHT AS BEFORE BECAUSE SHE WAS GETTING THE SAME TYPE OF CARPET. WE DID. SHE THEN PUT IN A LOWER CUT CARPET. WE THEN HAD TO MOVE THE BASEBOARDS DOWN TO THE CARPET AND REPAINT. THIS TOOK EXTRA TIME. SHE THEN ADDED THE REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING WOOD ON THE BANISTER. SHE HAS TO REALIZE THAT IF ADDITIONS ARE MADE TO JOB, IT WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF DAYS IT TAKES TO FINISH THE JOB. I PAY GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL BUT THIS JOB WAS RUSHED BECAUSE OF HER DECISIONS TO ADD MORE TO THE JOB AND THE DATE SHE CHOSE TO MOVE IN.
