I want to begin with a statement that B and C represented as able to contract the job, so other businesses or workers were brought in for granite counter install tile floor instal, and painting. Due to water damage, the entire wood floor, cabinets and counter had to be removed. Flooring and countertop were replaced, cabinets, molding, doors were re-installed as were appliances. I am over-all satisfied with the cabinets counter- top wall paint etc. the kitchen looks nice. The problems, however, were with timeliness and professional assignment of certain work ( plumbing). This job took over five months. We were without a kitchen for much longer than necessary. Weeks would pass without work done and a kitchen unusable-- we have a toddler! Other problems were with appointments unkept. Brian was supposed to meet me at the flooring company and granite company to aid in purchasing the granite -- measurements and technical questions should have been addressed by him. Both appts. he called minutes before the appt --I was on the road or at the appointment--and he said he could not be there and that I should go ahead without him. The result was that I had to address questions and arrange transport for the materials...I was not prepared to do either. Stress is a word I would use to describe the experience.Coordination between the various workers was loose. And I had to call a subcontracted company for them to come to fix a problem-- Brian claimed he had tried to call and they did not call back...two weeks passed with no contact or work. When I finally stepped in, the other business came out immediately and the problem solved. Brian cut financial corners by doing plumbing himself...my dishwasher continues to leak and I have to find someone to come in to fix the installation, which was done in a manner that the granite counter folks advised against and that I said not to do. The faucet in the sink was installed wrong and had to be redone. Ceiling tiles in the basement continue to have water damage due to this leak. Doors remained unpainted and unhung for weeks. When installed some doors often did not work amd had to be rehung. The minute the insurance money was paid, the timing on finishing the job became even worse. When I talked about my concerns with Brian, he explained that I was not his only customer. The message was not on customer, but getting more money...above the bid from the insurance, and I had many long calls with concerned adjusters as a result. I finally cut my ties, before some issues were resolved, and despite Brian's promises to return and fix any problems have decided to pay extra to fix the dishwasher. Incomplete touch ups regarding the paint will be done by me. I have also discovered wood filled trim broken when removed and patched rather than replaced. My family thought I was crazy not to cut ties with this company mid process and I did consider that option, but given this was an insurance job, I had not planned for the work, financially. Changing contractors would have cost me more money, but in the end, less aggravation. Brian is a good carpenter, but contracting is not his fort--at least not yet. I had carpentry work done by him before and while high priced, it was nicely done. Timing was a problem on the previous job as well. Note : my out of pocket was legitimate reflecting upgrades I chose.
