We have a newly constructed garage - 2 single stalls for which we needed openers. We purchased the doors and had them installed from a different company but had Altech install the openers (Altech owners are neighbors of friends). They did give us a Friends & Family discount which brought their price down to exactly what the company that installed the actual doors quoted us for this service. Arranging for the install appointment was fairly painless. The guy they sent to do the actual install was not impressive. We had a slew of other construction guys working on various parts of the house - some still siding the garage and the Altech guy showed up and decided that he's going to just start blasting his radio right in the vicinity of the other workers. Rude. He didn't know answers to our questions about things like pricing (ok, maybe only the office people know pricing ), or what comes with the package we'd purchased (odder, since he was there to install it... you'd think he'd know what he was installing). He was consistent in that he managed to install BOTH of the exterior keypads crookedly. Not crookedly so that you'd have to measure them to see that they're not level but crookedly enough that you can see it at a glance. These are the keypads that go on the outside of the doors so, you know, it's what you see when you pull in. When we called the Altech office about this we were told it wasn't a problem because we could just drill new holes & the old ones wouldn't be visible....that really wasn't the point. This was back in January. We weren't impressed but it wasn't worth posting a negative review...they did what we asked and for a price that was equal to others. We just planned not to hire them again. At this point I need to state that the time of installation permanent electricity wasn't hooked up yet in the garage but there were power cords so that the openers could be tested during installation. Apparently the installer didn't test them, or tested them and failed to see that they didn't work well. A few days after installation we had to call Altech because the chain on one door was twisted. Not just once but something like 4 times. How do you miss that in an install, or how do you install the chain so that happens after the install? Just confirmation we wouldn't hire them again. They did come out and fix that problem for free because they offer a 6 month warranty on labor (supposedly...keep reading). Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago...late May....odd noises when shutting my door. Chain is loose. Very loose. So loose that the door sometimes won't shut. We just didn't use my side and put it on the list of things to adjust. Figured maybe all of the chains need adjusting after a couple of months....except the other side didn't need adjusting.....hmmmm. This past Saturday (June 2, 2012) at around 4:45 pm I push the button to close the door on the side we were still using, hear a weird noise & turn just in time to see metal parts falling, a metal arm hanging and THAT door stuck halfway down. Nice. I call Altech (because were are still well within the 6 month labor warranty period) & get their voice mail informing me that their office closed at 2pm but if it's an emergency & I leave a message someone will get back to me within 30 minutes. I left a message explaining parts were falling & specifically requesting a call back, and mentioning that it had been less than 6 months since the original install. I still have not received a call back from Altech at the posting of this which is 2:45 pm the FOLLOWING Saturday. Extraordinarily poor customer service and, apparently, poor installation of simple Liftmaster Professional garage door openers. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ALTECH FOR ANYTHING.
Description of Work: This was an install of two Liftmaster Professional garage door openers into a newly built garage with two single stall doors.
