The team from Mark Group was extremely punctual, friendly and professional. I purchased an AngiesList deal for an energy home audit for $75, and Pat O'Connor of Mark Group came out the following week. He conducted a complete inspection of my home, including a blower door test, to determine the air leakage in the house and where most of the energy loss was occurring. I received a thorough report and cost estimate for repairs about a week later. I chose to hire Mark Group because the estimate seemed fair for the amount of work to be done, and my experience with Pat was very positive. The best part is the available financing using a State of PA energy loan with very low interest rates. The installation team came to do the work a few days later. They air sealed all walls in the home and installed insulation in several areas of the home. The guys were very professional and cleaned up all areas at the end of the job. This winter will be the real test to determine how much the energy improvements really helped, but I would hire Mark Group in the future and would request the same two installers who did the work.

The price was appropriate for the service. The auditors that visited the house were professional and knowledgable. They took their time to take detailed notes and discuss questions/concerns. However, the report that was produced and delivered as part of the service was very sparse. Lots of generic info, but very little specific info. Parts of the report were inaccurate or left blank (ie, appliances). The product did not reflect the quality of the in-person service. Also, there was some miscommunication that continued to take place regarding how or to what extent Mark Group would help facilitate financing from state programs to install high-efficiency HVAC systems (based on the audit report). Overall, it was a mixed experience with both positive and negative aspects.

We appreciate the feedback. While we wish we had a better response, the audit reports are a function (and limitation) of the software we are required to use by the state. We find that our customers generally appreciate the time we are willing to personally spend with them reviewing the findings and preparing a game plan that best fits their needs. We look forward to providing you with any additional information and guidance you are looking for. It is our job to help you make the most cost-effective decisions in your home when it comes to energy efficiency and we stand behind that responsibility.

Audit was conducted timely and in a professional manner. Audit uncovered a problem in the venting of a newly installed hot water heater. Recommendations to increase energy efficiency were provided. Mark's estimate to increase efficiency was high compared to other installers so I chose not to use them and for that reason, would not use their services in the future. Also, shortly after the audit, I experienced several personal problems and asked them not to contact me until I resolved them and contacted them. They chose to ignore my request.

After my initial "C" review, without work being done, Gordon from Mark Group contacted me immediately. He offered to have his crew remove the floor in The crawl space that had been holding up the project at no additional cost, even though the original estimate waa over a year ago. We scheduled the work immediately. The crew was on time, extremely polite and very neat. They went above and beyond, removing old building material from the space we didn't know was there and showing us to how to change the air conditioner filter. They showed us the results, explained everything, and refused to make fun of my fear of the crawl space. A very positive experience all around. Will look forward to seeing how this impacts our energy bills and overall comfort. They clearly place a high value on customer satisfaction.

Thank you for the feedback (deleted member name). Mark Group offers two services; a no-cost Home Energy Assessment and a paid Home Energy Audit. It appears that you elected a no-cost Home Efficiency Assessment back in June of 2012. The Assessment includes a full visual inspection of your home with the objective of identifying the most cost-effective energy-saving improvements. It's supported by the U.S. Department of Energy that since more than half of your energy spend goes to heating and cooling, that one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce your energy use is to seal and insulate your home to ENERGY STAR standards. Based on your feedback, it seems that where we fell down was in explaining the basics of building science and why we were looking at the insulation levels of your home. A full Home Energy Audit would have provided more comprehensive analysis of your home's performance and we might recommend you consider that service.

oing it anywayI was looking for someone to come in and insulate my house as my gas/electric bills were going through the roof. After researching what's available on the market i decided to hire Mark Group to do the job. So some time in early December I contacted the firm and had a sales guy come out promptly to do the job assessment. I have to admit i was pleasantly surprised with the knowledge level of these people and after i got the quote i decided to pursue the contract. And here is where i had some disappointment. I had to call the firm 3 times with 6 weeks to get the status on my insulation, to no avail. I was angry and frustrated with how reluctant and careless these people were with a customer. Finally, Jeff Kroupa contacted me at the end of January as he inherited my file from whoever was handling (or not handling) it before and things started falling into place. He was extremely helpful and responsive, helping me go trough numerous scenarios and finally in the middle of march things were completed. Things for you to look at right before the installation team leaves: 1. look at the damage in the ceiling - there are places where it would seem someone hit a hammer from above into the ceiling 2. If you have spot lights embedded into the ceiling - make sure its not pushed out into the room from the roof Otherwise, the team is excellent and friendly. So, I called Mark Group again and asked them to come in and fix the damage. To my surprise, they scheduled an appointment very quickly and send two guys to address the issues. They fixed the pushed out spot light quickly and professionally, but speckling is surely not their strong suit. They tried to fix and paint the ceiling spots, but I would have been better off doing it myself. (as I ended up re-doing it anyway)
Description of Work: They have insulated my roof, installed the attic hood, insulated basement, and insulated the wall adjacent to garage. Overall, it took them the whole day and I'm so far happy with their work. It's warmer in the house but will know when bills will start arriving.

The energy audit resulted in a detailed report that showed areas of my home where energy loss was occurring, areas that were fine as is and a line item proposal for making energy improvements. The blower door test was especially interesting and really showed the amount of energy loss I was experiencing, some of which I knew about and others that I didn't. The proposal for the work was much more reasonably priced than I expected, and energy loans are available to finance the improvements. I am preparing to schedule the work now.
Description of Work: I bought a Deal of the Day for an energy audit, which was conducted by Mark Group. The energy auditor called to confirm the appointment and then was able to come a day earlier than planned, which worked out for me. When he showed up, on time, he explained exactly what the audit would consist of and how long it would take. The energy audit consisted of visual inspection of all areas of the home, a discussion of existing improvements that we made to the house and a blower door test, which assessed the air tightness of my home.

On 3/30/13 Tom Mooney from the Mark Group came to our house to give us an overall assessment of the state of the insulation in our house and to draw up plans for making improvements. Tom was very knowledgeable and had several good suggestions for things we could do to reduce our energy use. Following his assessment he drew up a proposal to add insulation to some of the outer walls of our house as well as adding insulation to our basement and crawl space. The overall plan came to about $6600 which is more than we wanted to spend on the project. We contacted Tom via email on 4/9 to see if we could go ahead with only part of the project (crawl space and exterior walls) with the idea of revisiting the remaining areas in the future. We also asked if an install date of 5/3 was available as I was planning on taking that day off of work . Tom replied right away that we could go ahead with the parts of the proposal we wanted and said he would send us a revised proposal. After not hearing anything back or receiving the modified proposal I again emailed Tom on 4/15 to confirm that we were on for the 3rd. He replied that we were and that we should expect to receive the modified proposal by the end of the week. We never received the new proposal and no one came to the house for the install on 5/3 as we had agreed via email.

My house had about 3 inches of insulation in the attic, and there were sections that were completely bare. A neighbor recommended the Mark Group, and they were great! 2 employees arrived for the initial consultation, and described all sorts of methods for making the house more energy efficient. They looked at all doors, the basement, the hot-water heater and furnace, and the attic. At the end of their audit, they discussed options; it was decided based on budget that the attic would be the best place to concentrate on. The workers arrived on-time, were very courteous, and proceeded to seal and foam any electrical connections in the attic. They wrapped the pot-lights in special insulation pods that were sealed, and they installed a bathroom fan vent through the roof, which was properly insulated. Finally, they put in a lot of blown-in insulation, cleaned up and left. They walked me through every step of the way, and let me see how things proceeded at various stages. Everything looks great!
Description of Work: Audit of basement, home appliances (furnace, water heater, AC), doors, and attic for energy efficiency improvements. Sealing of all attic holes with foam and insulation; insulating all pot-lights safely and correctly (with these insular pods); re-routing a bath-fan through an insulated pipe through a roof-vent, and spraying insulation to a specified height.

The two installers arrived exactly at 8 a.m.and began unloading the material for set up and installation while making sure carpets were covered and no damage was done in the living area of the house. They let us know what they were doing during the different phases of the job and were very knowledgeable and explained all our questions well. The clean up was excellent and we were very satisfied with the job performance and quality of work. We already have seen a savings in our heating bill ! Pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient workers!
Description of Work: The addition to our home was done by former owners who never had any insulation done on the addition so our kitchen/dining room was always chilly in the heating months. Mark Group was the only compnay that we had come for estimates that could assess the problem and provide a comprehensive solution. They arrived on time and set up all the needed equipment in the basement/family room next to the crawl space in a neat and clean manner. They made sure that all flooring and carpet was covered before setting down any of their equipment and material. They performed an air flow analysis of the entire house and then proceeded to install the insulation material along the perimeter walls of the crawl spaces, filled in spaces where leakage could occur and then also placed a covering on the floor of the crawl space to keep cold air from escaping from the ground into the kitchen/dining room space. They also did a before and after comparison of air loss to show the percentage of heat loss prevention with the addition of the insulation. A Carbon monoxide detector was also installed as a safety monitor on the bedroom level of the house and they made sure a new air filter was put into the heater.

Process went very well. After purchasing the deal I was called a day later to set up an appointment. Technician was on time and sat down and went over the process before beginning. Within 10 mins he found a major opening in my wall while looking in the attic and explained that this alone would address the drafts in my main room. Further explained that attic insulation was very low (R9) and would recommend (R-49) or more. Also explained in detail air sealing and what they would do if hire to perform the work. Assessment went well but did have to follow up on the report a week later before receiving it.

I would say that he did everything in a very professional manner. He found very few problems. A complete report was sent to me a few weeks later.
Description of Work: The inspector did a comprehensive examination of our house. He looked for problems with the insulation and leakage around windows and doors. He inspected the attic and the basement to see if the insulation was proper. He put a sealed device in the front door with an out blowing fan to check for air leakage.

We purchased the Energy Efficiency Audit as one of the "Big Deals" on Angie's List. Since we live in an old, leaky house, we have wanted to have an energy audit conducted for several years, and the great price offered through Angie's List sealed the deal. Our energy auditor, Pat, was really great. He was on time, very personable, and extremely knowledgeable. While he conducted the tests, Pat explained what he was testing for and gave us some preliminary results and suggestions. We really learned a lot about the house from him and he had some great ideas to make our house more efficient and comfortable. About a week after the audit was completed, Pat sent us a report detailing his findings and his recommendations. I liked how the report broke up the recommendations into smaller projects along with estimates for the work (estimates were provided for the work that Mark Group can do but, of course, not for the things that they don't do, for example, window replacement). We liked this a lot because we have to do these energy improvements in phases.
Description of Work: Our energy efficiency audit included a thorough inspection of the walls, ceilings, and floors in every room in the house. Pat, our energy auditor went into our attic space (a fate I would not wish on anyone) and crawled around inspecting the insulation. He also worked in the basement examining how the basement walls connected to the walls on the main floor, inspecting all of our duct work, and our crawl space. He also examined the outside of the house, looking at the roof and seeing if he could determine where water enters our basement. At the end of the inspection, he conducted a blower test by sealing the front door with plastic and using a fan to pull air out of the house. As the house pressurized itself, we could see very clearly where air entered the house.
