Overall the expierence was great. Jeff was the salesman and he came originally to give us a quote. While he was measuring the spaces, my husband and I were looking at different carpet samples. Jeff was very knowledgable in the different types of carpet and even steered us away from some of the berbers that would not stand up very well. The original price that he gave us was very high so don't be afraid to negotiate...in fact it is a must! We actually ended up with a price that I was originally concerned that may be too good to be true, but now that we have had part of the installation performed, I am extremely happy with. We still have the second install of the basement and living room but I don't anticipate there being any problems. I was surprised though that it wasn't empire employees that installed the carpet; in fact it was a carpet company out of Dearborn that did the install. Either way, they did a great job and cleaned up after they were done working.
Description of Work: The services to be performed are carpet installation in (4) bedrooms, upstairs hallway, stairs, livingroom, and basement. The job will be performed in (2) seperate install dates so we still have to schedule the second date which will be for the livingroom and basement. The service included removal and haul away of old carpet and installing of a berber carpet in the basement and frieze carpet everywhere else.

I am extremely disappointed with how this went. The sales rep that came over showed us all the samples they had...which were very little, and we pick the one we liked the most. He then went and took measurements of where they would be installing the new carpet. After that we went and sat down so he could run the numbers. The first quote was for around $5,300.00 and he said he would give us 35% off bring it down to around $3,400.00 I thought great! But this was just are first quote. He told us that they would do 18 month 0% financing but had to sign today. I told him we are paying cash but this was just are first estimate we had gotten and I did not want to sign today. He then asked me how much I was thinking it would cost. I told him 2-3K. He then ran the numbers again and said he could drop the price to around $2,900.00. Again great! But I told him I do not like to go with my first quote. This is where it got even weirder. He just sat there and told me that he had sold on his two other quotes and that he can't give me any paper quote so that I can compare. After that he was out of our home in less then a minute. I understand they need to make money and it's a business but wow! Thats all it was... he only wanted the sale. Very unprofessional, and very little selection. I will not be calling back. Use at your own risk!

They were very professional and did a very good job. The quality of the carpeting was as I had expected. They cleared and cleaned everything up. I was satisfied with the job. I spent about $800 to $1000 for their service. They were on time, went right to work and did everything. There were no problems. They came in and did what they were supposed to do. The carpeting is beautiful. Their price was average. If need be, then I might go back to them again.

The problems started during the install...The installers were late and told one story to my wife and gave me a different reason as to where they were and why they would be late. When I checked in on the progress, I found that the installers were attempting to piece together the family room (11 x 16) with three pieces of carpet. I did not confront the installers, but called Empire directly and talked to the customer service folks who put me in touch with a 'manager'. He agreed that they should not be doing that since the carpet is twelve feet wide. The installer said they did it so the texture of the carpet would be the same in the family room as in the adjacent dining area. In theory that is plausible, except there is a step down and a set of french doors between the rooms and with a monotone plush carpet, the slight variance would not matter. The carpet seam for the pieces was just off center of the opening for the french doors. The living room is large enough that they had to seam the carpet and they did put the seam in the best location. However, the seam was very obvious and when we pointed it out, we were told that it would flatten out as the carpet relaxed. This has not happened. Empire did come out and replaced the carpet in the family room and the second crew was much more professional than the first crew that installed the carpet. While they were there, they did attempt to fix the bad seam in the living room by stretching the carpet and trimming the height of the carpet at the seam. They also worked on the seam in the doorway to the hallway by the bedrooms. Once again, it has not corrected the problem and the seam in the doorway to the hallway by the bedrooms has spread and is now very obvious. We once again complained to Empire and they sent a 'carpet inspector' out to investigate our complaint. The inspector did come out and looked at the carpet and talked to us about our concerns. The inspector did a comprehensive review (my opinion, but I am not an expert) and told us he would send his report to Empire. Two weeks went by and we had not heard anything from Empire and to make matters worse, a new seam issue made itself known. There is a seam in front of one of the bedrooms that is separating. This prompted another call to Empire where we got voicemail again and left a message stating our displeasure and requesting that they fix the problem replace the carpet or remove it and refund our money. A week later and we still have not gotten a response from Empire...we contacted the 'Carpet Inspector' but he would not give us the results of the inspection as it had been paid for by Empire. I must admit, that I was not surprised that was the case. On 12/30/2010, we contacted Empire's corporate office and opened a complaint telling them we have been unable to get in contact with or get a response from the people handling the Michigan area. We were given a complaint number and told we would get a call back within 24 hours. Given the next day was New Year's Eve, I as doubtful that we would receive a call and I was not disappointed. As of 1:00 p.m. on 01/03/2011 there has been no call from anyone at Empire. 1/14/2011 update, after the New Year holiday we did hear from Empire Today and we were given the name and number of the head installer who would come and also look at the carpet fiasco. I talked to him on Monday (01/10/2011) to set up a schedule for him to come to the house at a time that would not require my wife or I to take any more time off of work. He said he would check his appointments for the week and get back to me when he would be in the area. It is now Friday and we have not heard back from him and no appointment to come check out the carpet has been made. During this time, a new seam showed itself in front of one of the bedroom doors which makes for a hallway installation that is at least three pieces of carpet. To recap the installation, they put two pieces of carpet in the main living/dining room area as expected. They used three pieces of carpet to finish an 11 x 16 family room, which they have since replaced with a single piece of carpet. The hallway outside the bedrooms which is roughly 3 x 20 was pieced together with three pieces of carpet. The smallest piece (8" x 36") in front of the bedroom door.
Description of Work: We called Empire and were relatively pleased with the estimate price. The square footage estimate was higher than any of the other companies we had gotten estimates from, but we liked the carpet better and the price was acceptable. The sales process was rather painless and the selling agent assurred us that the installers were top notch and they would do everything to insure we were happy with our carpet. Up to and including removing and replacing the carpet.

Great, wonderful, nice people and Installers. They were here about 6 hours but they cleaned up very nicely before they left and hauled away everything. They really do move everything and put it back exactly where you want. I liked the quick service and yes...it is a little more in cost but it was worth it! Who wants to move furniture, tear up old carpet, haul it away, etc. They were good and I like the carpet.

The sales representative who came to our home figured out exactly what we wanted and recommended a selection of carpets. As between two similarly priced carpets, she recommended that we buy the thicker one, and we followed her advice. The installers, however, said that the carpet was really too thick for the installation we wanted. We asked them to do the best they could, and everything looks okay so far.

Sales rep called and came on time. Gave me an outrageous estimate. Told me the floor had a 25-year warranty. His company would not move the stove - that was my responsibility. I told him I would think about it. The company kept calling me to try and get me to buy the flooring. After about 2 weeks of high-pressure calling, the company offered to reduce the cost of the flooring by $1,000. It was still too high but at that point I felt I was being ripped off in the beginning if they could reduce it by that much. Someone has to pay for all those "Empire Today" commericials - I guess its the sucker customers.

The tricky part of this project was to match the new flooring to the existing flooring (about 8 years old). To make things worse, the existing flooring was not installed correctly in some areas thus leaving the installation crew with a few brain teasers for matching things up. No problem. The crew was very thorough and detail oriented when it came to solving problems. Everything was laid out before installation began and all problem areas were discussed in detail with my wife and I so we could have input into the decision making and insure we were comfortable with the installation plan. Everything turned out beautifull!!!! The crew was very professional and demonstrated they skilled craftsman v.s. just installers. My wife and I are already planning on calling Empire back to do another section of the house.

The salesman said that they had to install the carpet before the flooring, and it is normally the other way around. It turns out that the floor area that needed tile was slanted, and therefore they would not guarantee their work to have tile installed. I felt that it was dishonest of them to not tell me that up front before the carpet was installed. I had to have them come back after I completed the flooring so that they could finish the molding in that area.

When I set up an appointment with the sales representative online they responded to me immediately. They called a week before my requested date to confirm the date. The work was done on my rental property and not the home where I currently live. The sales representative came on time. He examined my bathtub and gave me a quote of $1100.00. When I asked if I could use the coupon that I picked up in a Mall, he reduced the quote to $1000.00. He also stated that I would receive a $50.00 American Express debit card in the mail in five weeks. I felt a little like was a bargaining for a used car. On the date before the work was scheduled, they called again to confirm. The time was set between 8 am and 10 am. They arrived at 9:30 am. There were two workmen who were very polite and went to work immediately. They explained everything that they were going to do. The work took about 2 hours. They installed the bathtub lining and also installed a new bathtub stopper. They had to get into the water closet in the bedroom closet to shut off the water and after they completed all work they cleaned up the closet and the bathroom. I was pleased with the work that they did. .

The home is occupied by three elderly relatives. I was shocked that Empire would try to do the entire job in one day given the age of the folks living in the house. I spoke directly to the Installation manager who understood my concerns. While he reassured me they have done similar jobs in the past, he addressed my concerns. The saleswoman had already alerted him to the special circumstances. Empire came and did the job, they were respectful of the age of the participants and the completed the job in two days.

I contacted Empire for a quote on new carpeting. They didn't arrive during their two-hour specified time frame for the scheduled appointment. A sales manager called 15 minutes after the time they were scheduled to arrive to tell us that the sales persons "van broke down and he had to walk home". He offered to send someone out that afternoon. I said that wouldn't work and that I would have to call him back to reschedule. About 10 minutes later another sales rep called and said that he was in the area and could stop by right away if we wanted. I told him that wasn't convenient for me, and phoned the sales manager to reschedule. I left a message on his cell phone asking for an appointment the next day during Empire's two-hour specified time frame. It has now been more than 48 hours after I left a message for the sales manager and I still have not received a return phone call.

The salesman showed up promptly as promised for the estimate on a Friday and was very professional. On Saturday morning the carpet installers called before arriving, and then quickly and expertly pulled up the old carpet and installed the new. They cleaned up behind themselves and were very courteous. After doing an initial measurement and pricing for the window covering on Friday, on Saturday morning the window guy showed up as promised to do the precise measurements for the window coverings. The blinds were installed quickly and to our satisfacation on the following Wednedday morning.

I made an appointment for an estimate, online, and then called to cancel because I didn't think we would be home. The salesman didn't get the message and showed up at the set time. Since we arrived home at, nearly, the same time we went ahead with the estimate. The salesman was friendly and informative and not "hard sell" at all. He seemed honest and the price seemed fair but he encouraged us to go ahead with other quotes, but assured me that Empire would beat any price. I did get one other quote which was actually the same ($2600) so I called Empire and told them if they would do it for $2500 they could have the job. Work was scheduled for 1-02-09 and I was told the installers would arrive between 9-10am. They called just before 8am and said they would be arriving closer to 9am if that was ok. I was thrilled to have them get an early start. They were extremely friendly and efficient. They laid down drop cloths to cover their entire path and in out of the house. After just 4 hours I went from having a 1965 blue bathtub and tile shower walls to having a beautiful new white tub and walls. The installers asked me where I wanted the shower caddies, the soap dish, and the grab bar before installing them. They left no mess behind and the new tub and shower walls fit seamlessly and perfectly.

I had a very good experience with Empire. The blinds upstairs has the valences cut wrong and the installer came back at my convenience to finish the installation. Both installers (blinds and floor) were very professional and did an outstanding job. My satisfaction seemed to matter. The man who gave the in home estimate was the ultimate in laid back salesmen and did not pressure me to buy anything. I would definitely go to Empire again.

They showed up on time. They explained the process to me before starting the job. They charged a fairly reasonable price. The first liner they brought out didn't fit. So they tried convincing me to use the improper liner, but I wanted the correct size liner. So they got the correct size liner and put it in. They did a nice job. My only problem was I did not like that they were trying to sell me something that I knew wasn't going to work.
