He arrived on time, brought all the equipment he needed to do the job and explained what he would be doing to the Heat-N-Glow fireplace gas log insert. He even said how long it would take to finish. He performed a complete service to my fireplace gas log insert, including replacing some of the ceramic logs and glowing embers. He was friendly, professional, and willing to answer our questions about the insert and its care. He completely cleaned up the work area, which was spotless when he left. Detroit City Sweep did an outstanding job and I highly recommend them.

The service provider arrived on time, performed the work promptly and cleaned up after himself. He provided recommendations on proper usage and other tips. He was extremely personable and professional. Great service and would use again.

It was great and they did a wonderful job. It was such a good job and we had them come back and do another one. They discovered that we had a clip missing on the one that they did, they showed me what it was, what it did and why it was missing. Then they replaced it after they asked if I wanted to do that. They explained everything to me so I agreed to do it. They were professional and didn't make a mess of my house.

The man who came to do the work was very courteous and friendly. However, he was not knowledgable. I paid for an inspection, and he was only a cleaner. He gave me some advice to get my flu replaced for a huge amount of money. I got the inspection because my gas fireplace has not been lighting, but the man could not tell me anything. He said I had to pay for one of their experts to come out. I had thought I WAS paying for a real inspection. The unfortunate thing was that he did not even do a very good job of cleaning. It was still dusty and there was grime on my gas piece. All he did was vacuum, which I could have done myself for much less than $100! He put new rocks into the fireplace, which was nice, but they did not even match the rocks I had in my fireplace in the first place. This was very annoying. I also purchased a chimney sweep. He swept the chimney quickly and efficiently and cleaned up the mess. This was a very good service.

It turned out good. There was no additional charge. There was nothing special about them.

He was great and did a really good job. He also showed me how to manually open the flue. I was very pleased and plan on using them again.

It was fine. They came out within a week after the deal was purchased. There were no additional charges beyond the big deal amount. They did a good job. The only complaint I had, and I didn't notice it before they left, was that when they reinserted everything, it was kind of off-center over to the left. But it's not a huge deal because if I have it cleaned again next year I'll just have them move it towards the middle. They put coverlets on their shoes. They were very careful. There were two guys. They gave me a window of time and they were here within that window.

Went very well. He was prompt, courteous, friendly and professional. Explained everything very well. I'll use them again in the spring to service my outdoor BBQ's.

I had to call several times to finally get an appointment time, but once I did everything went extremely well. The gentleman who came out had to spend a lot of time troubleshooting my gas logs since they hadn't been used in years, but he was able to figure out the problem and got everything in working order. He was very thorough and cleaned up very well. He also gave me a quick tutorial on how to operate everything properly. The fireplace now works great and looks fantastic. While he was there I asked if he had time to install a chimney cap (this was not something I had mentioned when making the appointment). He was willing to do the work and did a great job. I'll definitely use Detroit City Sweep again for my chimney and fireplace needs.

Good appointment, nice service people, good price too

One of the previously decommissioned chimneys on our historic house deteriorated and developed a large hole above the 3rd floor ceiling and began tilting. Concerned that the 6' above the roof might topple through our new and very expensive roof, I called a number of contractors. Detroit City Sweep, LLC was the second of two that came out and first to quote. Although the 6' of the chimney above the roof had previously been replaced both contractors proposed removing the chimney to below the hole and rebuilding a false chimney only for appearance sake. Dean from Detroit City sweep called November 5th in the early afternoon to say he was on the way to look at the job and if we wanted him to do the work he could start by stabilizing the chimney on the 6th. When he called back with a quote of $5,600. I had not received the 2nd quote and it sounded reasonable so I told him I would accept his offer. He said it would take about 4 days to complete. I further told him we need a certificate of insurance from their insurance agent before workers showed up to work. At this time he reneged on the start date of the 6th, but said they could start on the 7th between 9am & 1pm with the stabilization and demolition. We are closed on Fridays so I arranged for someone to be there to open for them. Kevin arrived with a laborer, collected the requested $2,800.00 deposit but provided no contract and did not have the requested certificate of insurance. He was reminded that we wanted a good quality job done. Kevin did no stabilization and to the contrary removed three walls of the chimney from the roof line down past the hole to the third floor leaving only the roof boards holding up the six feet of chimney above the roof and without authorization. When I saw what was done that night I called and spoke to Kevin who said we wanted it done right and that was the right way to do it. He went on to say it was now a $10,000.00 job. After much negotiation he agreed to do the new job for $6,900.00 on the 11th and it would take 8 more days. Work proceeded very slowly. workers didn't show up every day and typically didn't start until 10a - 12p or later. After several weeks less than half of the chimney was complete, in the first 4' it was 2" out of plumb, there was a nearly 1" belly in one side and the horizontal mortar joints varied from 5/8" on some to 1" on others. I met with Kevin when he came in that day telling him I didn't have confidence that he could properly finish the job and asked him to leave. During the project to date, never did the owner or a supervisor show up to check on the job. I later learned this was Kevin's first job with the company. When they finally provided the certificate of insurance it had no workers comp insurance. The owner said employees are sub contractors and he does not carry comp on them (leaving the customer exposed to liability if a worker gets injured). His own advertisements state the business is "fully insured". When he was asked if he had pulled a permit he said a permit is not required for this work. This has not been verified by the Detroit Building Dept. as they are very difficult to contact. Their advertisements again state that they are licensed. When asked the owner said he is licensed as an LLC (this is not a license but rather a registration). My opinion of this business is: that the owner knows little about business, supervision, screening contractors or the state insurance and licensing regulations. Our job was finally completed by Dean, who sold us the initial job. He said once he saw Kevin's workmanship he immediately fired him. Dean and a laborer started late in the morning and did not work every day we were open. Planning and communication left much to be desired. The final product appears to be of acceptable quality although mortar joints & tooling of them is not consistent with the adjacent chimney as we had specified. Kevins work was totally removed. It took Dean Until January 27th to finish the job. We had a very mild Fall & start of winter & the project could have easily been finished before the temperatures dipped below freezing. Everyone in this company is full of instant excuses for any problems that arise. They may be good at cleaning chimneys but would never recommend them for any brick work. I would also be very careful of them installing new gas equipment unless you see a license for that type of work and a permit for the work.

Chris was the technician who came out. He was a good representative of the company. He took care of everything included in the deal. He answered all of my questions and was professional. I was pleased with the result. Overall, my experience with them was fine.

The serviceman arrived punctually and was courteous and professional. He took great care to avoid dirtying the living room, where our fireplace is located. The serviceman arrived promptly at the scheduled time. I have graded the punctuality as a "B" only because the company originally did not get back to me for a week after I placed my original order through Angie's List. I contacted Angie's List and within a few hours I was contacted by Detroit City Sweep. One issue to be aware of is that the service provided is only for sweeping the flue, not removing any creosote that has accrued to the flue. (This should only be an issue if you haven't had a chimney cleaning in a long time, or have a lot of fires.) The creosote removal is a more costly service. Detroit Chimney Seep provided me with a bid on this, and I am soliciting bids from other area sweeps.

It went very well. It was perfect. I like that they were clean and efficient. Other than that, there was no dislike. I don't think they were late. I will absolutely use them again.

On October 27, 2014, I purchased an Angie?s List Coupon for Chimney Sweep Services by Detroit City Sweep for Chimney Sweep and Masonry Repair after seeing on Angie's List they had positive reviews and were bonded & insured. I called and scheduled an appointment. When the service provider, Dean, arrived at my house for the service, I mentioned my interest in converting both wood-burning (1 masonry and 1 pre-fab) fireplaces to gas-burning, and he said he could do that for me. In December, I received a proposal from Detroit City Sweep offering to provide full installation of two gas fireplace inserts (including installation of a gas line), to which I agreed. On January 19, 2015, Detroit City Sweep called me from Allstate Home Leisure of Livonia, MI to ask me to give the cashier at Allstate my credit card number over the phone to pay for ?materials?, which I provided. The next day, Dean of Detroit City Sweep arrived at my home and installed the two units. He removed the metal firebox that was in the pre-fab fireplace and broke out some of the bricks in order to fit the unit into the fireplace. He hooked up the gas line to both units and left the electric cords hanging out in the front of the units, saying that they could be operated by plugging them into an outlet, but I would have to hire an electrician if I wanted them to be wired into the back of the units. I found a contractor, who came out February 4th, 2015, took one look and said he was appalled. He said their work on the pre-fab unit was not up to code, and would burn the house down if it was operated as it was. Because Detroit City Sweep had torn out the metal firebox, there was nothing left to protect the wood frame it sat in from overheating and catching on fire. Furthermore, the metal firebox could not simply be ?re-installed? because these type of boxes have to be installed from the inside, prior to construction of the wood structure around them to be safe and secure. I informed Detroit City Sweep about the problem, and Dean denied it was a problem. I now need a licensed contractor to remedy this disaster, which will cost more than their original installation estimate. I believe they should pay for the remedy.

Work was completed with much professionalism. Rob put on show covers, covered the areas he was working on with drop cloths. Cleaned up, and made fireplaces were in good working order.

I was very pleased. The only negative part was that I bought the Chimney sweep through Angie's list and I ended up having to call them as nobody called me. Not a big deal. They were on time, did a nice job and gave me some suggestions for having some upgrades/maintenance work done in the future. It has been a long time since I have used a wood fireplace so the technician went over the process for using the fireplace.
