Mark's tile work is excellent and his price was very reasonable. I found Mark on Craigslist. He told me he was an unemployed union tile worker and that he does good work - he does. He didn't want to give me an estimate over the phone and didn't want to come to the house for an estimate because he lived too far away. He said that, if the job was closer to his house, he would come by for an estiamte and he said he would if I insisted. He said he didn't mind working far from his house though. I thought it might effect his schedule, but it didn't. He came every day, including weekends until the job was done. He gave me an hourly rate that I liked so I said I'd give him a chance. Keep in mind that the work was not done on my own house, I hired him to do the work on a house I was fixing up to sell. I wasn't as concerned about perfectionist work, just decent work at a good price. That is why I took a chance on him. Well, I got excellent work at a good price. The result was a beautiful tile job. Marke worked steadily and professionally. He kept a clean/organized work area and always cleaned up at the end of each day. Also, he was reliable about communication - I could reach him by phone when I needed him. He did the work until it was finished - he didn't disappear for days as so many contractors I've worked with do. He was insistant on gettting the job done before moving to another job. Accordingly, he worked long days when he had another job lined up. He also insisted on not cutting corners when it came to the quality of his work. In our bathroom we had vinyl tiles on the concrete floor. I told him to the leave the tiles since they were so hard to get up (I had tried previously) and just tile over them. He refused - he insisted on removing them and he had a small jack-hammer tool that did the work quickly. Yes, it cost me more because it added time, but it felt good knowing it was done right. Anyway, Mark does great work at a reasonable price and he worked honestly and reliably. Hire him for your tile work - you won't be disapointed.
